039.1 Jaela and the doorway to Medi's quarters

[23:15] <Kotono> Finding Hanna isn't hard. With a bit of Elena help you find that she's in the cafeteria. She's lingering over a glass of iced water, watching the people eat. She looks thoughtful and reserved as Jaela finds her at last.
[23:17] <Jaela> "Just a glass of water?" Jaela asks, taking a seat next to her.
[23:18] <Kotono> "Mmm-hmm," Hanna says around a sip. Putting it down, "I was woolgathering. You're back already?"
[23:21] <Jaela> "It was a quick trip. Honestly, selling my stuff and buying a book took longer than that." She calls up a mug of mead, asking, "When do you want to leave? I don't want to wait too long."
[23:22] <Kotono> "This may run long," Hanna warns, "If you want ot talk to anyone else or deal with anything, do it before we leave."
[23:23] <Jaela> "Really? How long are we talking about, here?"
[23:25] <Kotono> "I couldn't say. It's hard to predict the Court," Hanna replies. "Just that it may take some time."
[23:27] <Jaela> "Ah, I see. Well, want to help me with something so I don't have any lingering regrets, then?"
[23:29] <Kotono> "I don't mind," Hanna puts her glass aside, "What is it?"
[23:30] <Jaela> "Let's see if we can't find Kascha along the way," Jaela says, finishing her mug in one large gulp. She sets it down with a happy sigh, and stands up. "Medi's quarters. I want to challenge the doorway again."
[23:32] <Kotono> Kascha's found with a bit of searching. She's in the infirmary. She's lying on a bed next to 27, who lies next to her. The two are eye to eye, staring intently, as if trying to boil each other's brains.
[23:33] <Jaela> "Well, you look like you belong here," Jaela mutters. "Busy, Kascha?"
[23:35] <Jaela> Meanwhile, she goes through all the preparations in her mind, wondering at how far she's come from simply being overwhelmed by the very magic she is now trying to unravel.
[23:37] <Kotono> "Yes," Kascha doesn't even look up. "27's helping me to try to understand time paradox."
[23:37] <Kotono> Hanna stares a moment and shakes her head, "I'll be by the portal," she annouces.
[23:39] <Jaela> "That's... nice." Jaela shakes her head, and speaks up into the air, "Elena, would you mind seeing if Balyss is busy? And inviting her over to the portal to Medi's quarters, if not?" She follows Hanna out afterwards, before she begins to understand what is going on.

[19:43] <Kotono> Elena blinks away briefly, returning. "She's with Stille," she said, "She'll meet you by the portal."
[19:43] <Jaela> "Thanks. Wait there too, please."
[19:43] <Kotono> With that, Elena blinks away. Hanna watches her go, "You ready?"
[19:44] <Jaela> "Little steps. As long as I get an actual idea of where to go, it's all good. Even if we don't crack that thing."
[19:44] <Kotono> That gets a slight nod, Hanna stepping into the portal and vanishing away, towards your goal.
[19:44] * Jaela disappears into the portal after her.
[19:47] <Kotono> Thus you find Balyss, Hanna and Elena at the portal. They're clustered around it, awaiting.
[19:49] <Jaela> "Alright," Jaela says, casting a few spells as the last part of her preparations. "I just want us to take a good look at the portal to Medi's quarters." She grins at Balyss. "Consider it your way of paying me back for that time you ruined my concentration?"
[19:52] <Kotono> Grumbling at that, "No one understands Selune's visions," she grumps, but nods to that, "How do you want to do this?"
[19:55] <Jaela> "Back me up," she requests of Balyss and Hanna. "Each pick a strand and just focus on that. I'll try to work that into the rest." Turning towards Elena, Jaela says, "I was also thinking of copying Annalise. If I try to destabilize things, except locally and not through the Aurora, could you handle it?"
[19:56] <Kotono> "Uh." Staring at that, "Do you remember what happened last time," she says, entirely dubious.
[19:56] <Jaela> "You two were caught off guard and still made it work. Will preparing help?"
[19:59] <Kotono> "We made it work because we didn't have a choice!" Elena protests, "That's like asking you if it's okay if I pour acid on your face and make your body change every few seconds, if I just give you advance warning!"
[20:00] <Jaela> "I'll be fine with it if it gets me to open that door," Jaela responds. "Alright. For this time, I'll try seeing what I can without it. But talk it over with Galariel, if you will." That said, she nods at Hanna and Balyss to signal her readiness.

[20:04] <Kotono> OOC: Give me a moment to get their own preparations in order.

[20:15] <Kotono> Jaela loses herself in the portal. She studies and studies and studies away, throwing all she has at it, in magic, mind and concentration! Once again Jaela is stricken by the artistic beauty of the magic, so far removed from the simple spells and sorceries thrown around by her opponents.  It speaks of amazing skill, breath-taking in the scope of the magery wrought. Deep into it Jaela searches,
[20:15] <Kotono> studying deeper and deeper. The magic not merely magic. It is woven. The runes are woven into the reality of this place. It is not a barrier, is it a truth. The portal to Medi's quarters is sealed because the reality around it affirms it. To brute force it, you would need a force stronger than Creation itself. As you study this fact...OOC: Make will.

[20:20] <Kotono> Jaela is momentarily staggered as knowledge thumps into her mind. It takes place in her memories, as if she had always known this. The barrier ahead can be opened by a worthy champion who owns Aurora. This champion must gather seven maidens - Moon, Sun, Fire, Wind, Water, Earth and Good. Together, they must strike the portal with seven swords of cold iron, each one ablaze with the power of
[20:20] <Kotono> that maiden. Finally, the champion must utter the seven Words of Creation for Moon, Sun, Fire, Wind, Water, Earth and Good.
[20:21] <Jaela> "What? No way!"
[20:25] <Kotono> "What?" Hanna glances over at Jaela, "Did you find something?"
[20:25] * Jaela points at the portal accusingly. "It told me to get a harem if I wanted to get in! Hey, Elena, what sort of man was Medi?"
[20:32] <Kotono> Elena wobbles about, "H-hold on!" she says, before falling to her knees in a heap. "I just got a m-message!"
[20:32] <Kotono> "Eh?" Balyss approaches Elena, "Do you need healing?"
[20:32] <Jaela> "What's wrong?" Jaela asks, kneeling by her side. "A message from who? Are you okay?"
[20:34] <Kotono> "S-Sir Medi." Elena sputters, "About the maidens, swords and words. 21 of them." she mutters, "How did he...?"
[20:35] <Jaela> "Heh. So I guess he approved and I got somewhere even without brute forcing the portal." She picks Elena up into her arms, straightening up. "I'll take you to the infirmary to rest. Let's go?"
[20:42] <Kotono> Wobbling as she's picked up, "I mean...21 again 21..." she mutters, "Each of the maidens must be powerful enough. Powerful enough...the level of power where mages can pierce to the 10th circle and warriors move faster than the eye can see. Each of the swords has to be properly enchanted. Each of the words has to be precisely spoken, and the champion has to be able to withstand the strain!"
[20:42] <Kotono> As she goes on Hanna falls in step, listening. "I know the spell now, I think I can do it. I think I can tell. He told me I had to ensure it was done right. He told me it had to be done by the right people for the right reasons."
[20:46] * Jaela looks more disappointed than anything. "I hope whatever's there not important enough for our fight if it can wait until we don't really need it. Ah well, at least we came closer to meeting our promise to Lady Chan."
[20:50] <Kotono> "You should go in there. The conversions are in there. The spell books are in there. The First Trumpet is in there. His treasures are in there," Going on and on, even as ou enter the infirmary, muttering a few words and staring at Balyss, "You could be the maiden of the moon, but you're not ready yet. Hanna could be the maiden of Good, but she's ont ready yet," she says, "One of you will
[20:50] <Kotono> need to learn the Words of Creation. They're difficult to speak. You konw, don't you? But I think you're the right people for the right reason."
[20:51] <Jaela> "Conversions?" Jaela repeats, glancing at Hanna and Balyss. She'd figured the part about the Words of Creation already, although that's not a particularly easy hurdle to surpass. "Afina's pretty fiery now. I think if we tell her about this, she'll cheer up some more?"
[20:57] <Kotono> Balyss shrugs, as Elena goes softly limp in Jaela's arms.
[20:59] * Jaela shrugs back at her, and then gently places Elena onto one of the beds and tucks her in. "Sorry for the trouble, Balyss, but could you look after Elena until she gets back on her feet?" She glances at Hanna. "We should probably get going to the Court or we'll never leave."
[21:02] <Kotono> "Not...yet..." Murmuring that, Elena cracks open her eyes. "Five more. Sun. Fire. Wind. Water. Earth. Paper. I need paper. Paper and ink. Have to draw the swords."
[21:03] <Jaela> "Five?" Jaela asks, finding herself surprised. As she looks for paper and ink for Elena, ridiculous though the request is, she asks, "So Afina and Simmer are no good for Fire?"
[21:07] <Kotono> "Don't know," Shaking her head, "Haven't seen them." You find some writing supplies and bring them to Elena. Once she has them she furiously begins scribbling, focusing intently on it.
[21:08] <Jaela> "I suppose we can stay until Elena calms down?" Jaela tells her mother quietly.
[21:09] <Kotono> Hanna nods minutely, and in a low voice, "This sounds like it's going to be complicated."
[21:10] <Jaela> "For all we know we'll come across one of the swords while away and not even realize. Might as well let her finish."
[21:12] <Kotono> Hanna nods. It takes Elena about an hour and several sheets of parchment to finish. When done she at last slumps back, "It's all there," she says, "Can make them from those."
[21:13] * Jaela takes the designs and takes a look for herself.
[21:16] <Kotono> They look to be complicated magical designs for seven swords.
[21:17] <Jaela> "Not for me, really." Jaela places them back. "So it's the same as before, except can you look after the designs as well, Balyss?"
[21:20] <Kotono> "Stille's gotten himself off to something else by now, anyway," Balyss says, "As long as he's not bothering Sylvie again."
[21:21] * Jaela snorts. "Thanks. If you want anything when I get back, just let me know. I'll be there for you."
[21:34] <Kotono> "Have fun," Balyss waves. As Hanna and Jaela walk out, through the Courtyard, "Now I'm curious as to what he's kept tucked away in there that requires that level of protection."
[21:35] <Jaela> "If we don't die for a little while, we'll find out?" Jaela reasons.
[21:41] <Kotono> "Yes, but that's so prosiac." Hanna nudges Jaela with her elbow, "Don't you daydream of the treasures within and the magic?"
[21:42] <Jaela> "I prefer practical things over stupid dreams like that."
[21:44] <Kotono> Hanna stops and sighs, rubbing her temple. "Jaela..." she begins, letting the single word hang like an admonishment.
[21:46] <Jaela> "Yeah, yeah." Jaela waves any concerns away. "Can we actually get to the Court directly? I only ever visited, but I've been wondering if it might be different for the locals."
[21:49] <Kotono> "No. It doesn't work that way. The Court finds you when it wants to find you," Hanna replies, "It's usually a good wander."
[21:50] <Jaela> "I'll take us across this time, then," Jaela suggests, aiming blindly.

[21:56] <Jaela> Keeping her visible eye closed, Jaela senses all about her with blindsight, just a split second away from summoning Gae Bolg!
[22:01] <Kotono> 20ft away from you is a satyr, gaping and wide eyed. He holds a crystalline decanter, dripping water from the opening of it. You lie on soaking wet ground, mud against your back. "Whoops! A thousand pards!" The satyr calls, "You just appeared as I shot!"
[22:02] <Jaela> "What the fuck did you shoot at me?" Jaela asks deceptively calmly, picking herself off the ground. "Think carefully before you fucking answer."
[22:05] <Kotono> "Water! Just water!" Eeeping, "I'm sorry, fair angel! This decanter controlls water, and your timing was bad, that's all!"
[22:05] <Kotono> Hanna's hiding a smile with her hand, standing aside from all of his.
[22:07] * Jaela clenches her fists and slowly calms herself down, using magic to dry the water covering her. "Why would you do that? Why? You drink water! You don't spill it everywhere! That's so fucking wasteful!"
[22:07] <Kotono> "What?" The satyr stares, "There's always more water when you're thirsty."
[22:08] <Jaela> "Stupid unrealistic heavens," Jaela grumbles, before looking at her mother. "Let's go?"
[22:11] <Kotono> Laughing all the way now, Hanna merely holds up a hand as she expresses her amusement. Meanwhile the satyr gives Jaela an odd look "You didn't hit your head when you fell, did you, fair one?"
[22:12] <Jaela> "I'm fine," Jaela says through gritted teeth, and marches off with or without Hanna.
[22:19] <Kotono> Hanna follows after finishing her amusement, "Jaela, I'm sorry, but it was funny," Her apology is said in a serious voice, "At least it was only water."
[22:19] <Jaela> "I would've broken something if it weren't."
[22:23] <Kotono> "Jaela, it wouldn't kill you to smile about it," Hanna replies, shaking her head as you walk into the deep, eternal forests.
[22:23] <Jaela> "I might if it happened to you," Jaela offers as a concession.
[22:47] <Kotono> Hanna looks at Jaela a moment, and then sighs aloud.
[22:48] * Jaela wonders, as she walks, just how many people would actually be happy to get waylaid like that on a trip to a friendly heaven or to be made a laughingstock. Then again, she's not exactly a normal person so it could be more than she expects.

[22:53] <Kotono> Several hours of wandering pass. No sign of the Court as you meander about. As you work through the forest, ahead you see a large clearing, filled with blue wildflowers. They grow all about there, even over a fallen tree trunk.
[22:54] <Jaela> "I always think about the Court, or who I want to visit there," Jaela speaks all of a sudden. "When I go there, that is. Is that the right way? Do we need to focus on the same thing?"

[19:47] <Kotono> "It helps, but the Court will come when the Court comes," Hanna says, "Patience."
[19:48] <Jaela> "I'm patient," Jaela says, gesturing at the flowers afterwards. "Any symbolism to these? Nature was never my strong suit."
[19:52] <Kotono> "Probably not." Hanna advances into the glade, kneeling in the flowers. "They're pretty blue flowers." OOC: You can make K:N here if you like.
[19:53] <Jaela> "I guess they are," Jaela muses, being patient by waiting for Hanna to admire them. "Not really my color."
[19:55] <Kotono> As she kneels, Hanna plucks several of the flowers. She constructs a garland of them, placing it atop her head. "Do you like it?"
[19:57] <Jaela> "It's a nice wreath," Jaela responds, after looking it over. "But still too blue for me."
[19:58] <Kotono> "Red and blue clash," Hanna agrees, her own hair shifting, becoming a pale blue matching the blue of the flower garland. "If we have time, I should take you to one of the tailors. You could use a good dress for Court."
[19:58] <Jaela> "Can I just reuse the one I wore for Lady Chan's reception?"
[20:07] <Kotono> "Jaela." Hanna stops here, "It's no sin to have more than one fancy dress."
[20:09] <Jaela> "I guess I'm not so poor I can't afford another dress," Jaela muses. "But I have limited space in the gauntlet." She raises it for good measure. "Just seems wasteful." Hardly about to protest, she says, "Something in golden or silver, then, since I already have a lovely purple dress? I'm partial to green, of course, and black or red should work as well."
[20:13] <Kotono> "You don't have to keep all of them in that gauntlet," Hanna smiles wistfully and goes to tap it, coming close. "You don't have a black dress? Every girl should have a stunning black dress." Smiling now, "We'll get you one."
[20:15] <Jaela> "Well, I do have the space since it's hard to find armors I like." Jaela shrugs. "I can handle another dress. Black's fine."
[20:16] <Kotono> "Good," Hanna says, dusting her knees off, "Let's go, to adventure, beauty or the Court!"
[20:17] * Jaela gives the wreath on her head a dubious look before setting off once more.

[20:23] <Kotono> This stream is a passage to the Gates of the Moon, realm of Selune. Swim down it and you'll pass into that blessed realm. As you realize this, Hanna kneels before the stream, running her fingers through the water silently.
[20:23] <Jaela> "Want to visit Selune?" Jaela asks, kneeling beside her to try a drink from the stream's waters.
[20:28] <Kotono> "I'm wondering," Hanna says, "It could be chance that took us here, or it could be an invitation." Twirling her finger in the waters, as Jaela finds the water cold and refreshing, clean to her taste.
[20:31] <Jaela> "The Court will find us when it wants to, so we might as well go for a swim?"
[20:34] <Kotono> Hanna nods, starting to disrobe. "A moonlight swim," Hanna murmurs, "Reminds me of Vilar...long before your time. He had some sea elf blood from his mother's side, and took to the water like a fish. He lived by the sea, and on clear, moonlight nights we'd go swimming together." Hanna's voice is full of a soft happiness, "All the world that mattered was in those moonlit waters and in our
[20:34] <Kotono> eyes."
[20:35] <Jaela> Her eyelid twitching, Jaela sends her armor away and bestows the ability to breathe in water upon herself, just in case. Then, she is the first to jump into the river!
[20:38] <Kotono> Once disrobed and taking a moment to stretch before hopping in - GAH COLD! The cold waters open Jaela's eyes wide, even as Hanna starts to swim with her, the waters helping you along. Hanna turns to swim backwards, keeping her eyes on Jaela. As she does she offers up her balled up dress and clothes, "Could you gauntlet these," she asks, "Anyway, don't look like that. It's a romantic memory.
[20:38] <Kotono> It doesn't bite."
[20:40] <Jaela> It doesn't really work like that! She has to wear them properly first-- no, wait, if she considers it an improvised weapon, then--! The bundle disappears, Jaela sinking below the waters before she emerges once more. "Of you. I don't want to hear about you in those contexts or think of you in them in any way."
[20:42] <Kotono> Hanna laughs, "You know, my last daughter may have spoiled me. We'd talk for hours about romantic happenings over tea. She got her father's romantic side. You got my fierceness instead."
[20:44] <Jaela> Perhaps her older sister didn't come from a world conquered by Hell, Jaela acidly thinks. She's not like this because she wants to be, either! "Disappointed?"
[20:47] <Kotono> "Why would I be?" Hanna asks right back, a little smile showing. "Should I be?"
[20:47] * Jaela dives underwater rather than answer.
[20:53] <Kotono> Even through the water, Jaela can hear Hanna's warm laughter, as she begins to swim ahead.
[20:55] * Jaela swims on without letting it bother her. Nighttime, a moonlit swim in a river leading to Selune's realm... is it really an invitation? What could Selune want of them?
[21:11] <Kotono> A question without an easy answer - but soon, Jaela finds the current becoming stronger, pulling her along faster and faster!
[21:12] <Jaela> In a sense, she had prepared for it. Not needing to breathe and not easily bruised, Jaela doesn't fight against the current. She merely keeps an eye on Hanna to make sure that nothing untowards happens to her.

[21:17] <Kotono> Hanna swims with the utmost ease, utterly undisturbed by the increasing current. Ahead you race, faster and faster...and then you slow down. The water is silvery with moonlight, your movement at last arrested.
[21:18] * Jaela comes up for air, breaking the surface. The silvery glow is enough of a clue.
[21:22] <Kotono> You are in a small lake, perfectly circular. The outer rim of the lake is lined with smooth white stones, about the size of your first and each one is six inches apart. Beyond that, you are in rocky grounds. Above the full moon shines beautifully.
[21:24] <Jaela> Lying on her back in these calm waters, Jaela admires the beautiful moon above. "I hope we are not expected to do one of the ritualistic naked dances together," she comments to Hanna.
[21:30] <Kotono> Mimicking Jaela, and glancing over to her, "They're fun," With a glint of amusement in her eyes, "Why, do you feel a dance coming on?"
[21:31] <Jaela> "I kind of did want to join in on the last one, but they started without me and it wouldn't have been proper, anyway. Not with you, though," Jaela says, firmly reiterating the last part.
[21:37] <Kotono> "I think we have a wildly different idea of what this sort of dance is," Hanna gives Jaela a curious look.
[21:40] * Jaela snorts. "No, I just think it's awkward to dance naked with family, especially in a dance that takes over your conscious thought."
[21:43] <Kotono> "Oh." Hanna says, "I suppose you picked that up living with mortals. Devas rarely bother with clothing when amid themselves in the Heavens. There's no real need for them for us, and we aren't shackled to physical lusts."
[21:44] <Jaela> "How many siblings did I have, again?"
[21:46] <Jaela> Amused now, she smiles at the moon overhead. "I'm mortal too, since you brought it up."
[21:48] <Kotono> "Six. One was born an aasimar and died after a full live. Four others were half celestials and have joined with the essence of the plane. The last is your brother, Prosperity." Hanna explains as she floats, framing your bodies in silver relief, like mithral golems. "Each of you is different. You're number seven, and you're not quite like any of the others."
[21:52] <Jaela> "Lucky number," Jaela muses, not really giving it much thought aside from that. "Think Selune will be pleased with us just being happy to float here?"
[21:57] <Kotono> "She's not Sharess, so probably not," Hanna admits, "But we're in no hurry, either." Staying floating, "A fateful number. I hadn't put much mind to it... I wish I had, now." Admitting this quietly, "I know numerology exists, but I haven't ever put that much attention to it. If I had suspected more, I could have taken you with me, or stayed on the Prime."
[22:00] <Jaela> "If you say any more, I will get angry," Jaela warns her. She rights herself in the water, then, and nods slightly to herself. "Alright. Let's give it a try. I always wanted to swim in synch with someone. And it can be a sort of dance, too, if you think about it." She calls up what she knows of Selune's ceremonies from her interest into them, telling Hanna, "Match my moves and we'll take it from there?"

Jaela finds herself laughing in manic, surging joy as they do, on and on and on! It goes on for a time
[22:10] <Kotono> - how long Jaela will never be sure. But eventually, the two find themselves just out of the water, lying a bit apart and drying out. At last rationality returns to you, but despite it a joyous smile clings to your face and blossoms within your heart.
[22:11] <Jaela> "Knew it would happen," Jaela says through her smile, feeling content despite her regained senses.
[22:12] <Kotono> Hanna laughs - an utterly carefree thing. "Selune's ways are her own." She has a grin on her face, turning to meet Jaela's gaze. "I suspected. I think we both could have used that, letting go of concerns."
[22:13] <Jaela> "For a little while."
[22:14] <Kotono> At this Hanna sits up, "Give me my clothes back now? We should be moving by now, at least."
[22:16] <Jaela> With a gesture, the bundle reappears in Jaela's hand and she places it near herself. "I'm ready whenever you are." Magic is there to finish drying her properly, and as Jaela stands up her armor appears over her body.
[22:17] <Kotono> Once clad and dressed once more, Hanna takes to the air, flying up.
[22:17] * Jaela is startled into giving her a lead, before pressing on after Hanna.
[22:20] <Kotono> Above you fly up. You find that you are on an island - atop the rocky island you can see a glowing white pillared shrine of some sort, vast. Below you can see a deep ocean and great beaches. As you ascend, the moonlight grows brighter! Before you, you can see what looks to be a shimmering doorway, almost too bright to bear.
[22:20] <Jaela> Whether it leads to their destination or is another invitation, Jaela takes it rather than risk being rude.
[22:26] <Kotono> The two go into the light! Before you, the two of you find yourselves in Hanna's room. The one you talked to her in, undisturbed from last time.
[22:27] <Jaela> "I will probably never get used to this," Jaela says, pulling her hair over her shoulder and beginning to slowly braid it. "What is our next move?"
[22:30] <Kotono> "Speaking of your siblings..." Hanna murmurs, "There's something you may like to see."
[22:30] <Jaela> "Sure," Jaela responds, interest kindled.
[22:35] <Kotono> You go down the hall, to the very end of it. Here Hanna stops, placing her hand on the wall. After seven seconds the wall vanishes, revealing that the hall continues. The left hall is empty, the right hall having six rooms. "When my children pass on from life and into the final reward of unity," Hanna says quietly, "I gather their things, all the symbols and meanings of their lives and make
[22:35] <Kotono> a shrine to them." Looking ahead to the first door, "Would you like to meet your brothers and sisters, Jaela?"
[22:37] * Jaela is too stunned to answer at first, but finally manages a slight nod back.
[22:42] <Kotono> Going to the first door, in a quiet, reverential whisper, "Her name was Elsa." she says hand on the doorknob - a golden knob and a rich, wood polished door. "She was born an aasimar, lived and ultimately died a mortal life. At first she heard the paladin's call, but ultimately the call of hearth and home was stronger. Her world, so long ago...long since did righteousness triumph, and in the
[22:42] <Kotono> final days were the Tainted were purged, and mortal souls taken to eternal glory, never to suffer again. What lies in here are memoentos of a woman's life long forgotten by most, on a world that's name is only recorded in the crumbling dust of ancient history tomes. Are you ready?"
[22:43] <Jaela> She's not the type to turn away, and she doubts anyone could after hearing that. "Yes."

[19:45] <Kotono> Within the room you find...relics. Things of the past. In one corner a broom sits, a simple straw broom that catches your awareness before anything else. Shelves full of little homely knick-knacks. Brushes and perfume jars, bits of pottery and a hair ribbon, a pair of black buckle shoes and a baby's bonnet. In the back a stone-mantled fireplace has been added to thew all, ancient fieldstone.
[19:45] <Kotono> A fire crackles to life as you enter. On the mantle sits a sheathed sword and a dented silver circlet. Above those is a large portrait, three feet tall. In it you see th eimage of a woman - she has Hanna's eyes and strong, noble features. She is in her middle age, her hair gone over to gray. She wears a simple housedress and sits serenely in a chair. Behind her you can glimpse a window
[19:45] <Kotono> showing trees and lawn. Her eyes are shifting to the side a bit, just a hint of a smile starting to show. It's this Hanna lingers on first, "The ulgar of her realm commissioned this painting of her, but little Ilsessa wouldn't stop running around. The painter finally just incorporated it into it, since she was irrepressable."
[19:47] <Jaela> "Ulgar?" Jaela asks, stepping up to the mantle to run her hand over the sword.
[19:50] <Kotono> "The local equivalent to a petty nobleman," Hanna says, "For some reason, the word never translates, even with magic. The legends were that the name was a gift from the Gods." The sword is cool to the touch, well kept even now. Not a hint of rust is on the handle or the sheath.
[19:51] <Jaela> "Think she would've made a good ruler?"
[19:55] <Kotono> "She had the charisma and wisdom, but not the desire." Hanna goes over to the shelf, picking up the ribbon. She holds it into her hands and sniffs it, "These room holds the rot of the ages at bay. Even now, I can still smell her perfume on her hair ribbon. Her husband gave this to her as a courting gift." Placing it back down, and approaching Jaela, "Orcscye." she says slowly, taking the
[19:55] <Kotono> blade and drawing it. The steely slither of steel is heard, the blade gleaming bright. "The bane of all orcs who seek to ruin and destroy."
[19:56] <Jaela> "When you talked about descendants, then, you meant Elsa's line?"
[20:00] <Kotono> "She wasn't the only one to have a family," Slowly kneeling before the fireplace, Hanna bows her head, offering the sword up to the flames. She maintains that position for the span of several heartbeats, before she rises and sheathes it. "As I said, her world has long since come and gone. It's role in eternity has been played. Celestial blood is thick...but even then, after so many years,
[20:00] <Kotono> it thins out and is forgotten. Even if a branch of the line moved on from that world, it is so far past diluted that it matters naught."
[20:01] <Jaela> "Did you stay in touch with her?" Jaela asks curiously, her attention returning to the painting. "Or with her children? Did they go out to crusade in her stead when they grew up?"
[20:04] <Kotono> "I was at her side when she passed." Hanna quiets, "I offered her a chance to come with me to the Court." Hanna bows her head before shaking it, "She wasn't strong enough to bear eternal life, and she knew it even as I denied it. Her children went out and lived - some crusaded. Little Ilsessa gave her life protecting a village before the flower of her life even truly began to bloom. Mark
[20:04] <Kotono> had a sorcerer's touch and lived in the local ulgar's court, and became the court wizard until age took him away. The others, and the grandchildren and the greatgrandchildren? They lived. Some lived long, some were brief flames that burned too bright. They all lived."
[20:08] <Jaela> Eternal life is overrated, anyway. "And this is all that's left," she says, gesturing about herself.
[20:10] <Kotono> "Here and in my heart," Hanna taps her fingers to her chest. "Little Ilsessa incarnated as a courre. I expected nothing else, for she was always a child at heart. She still is." Quieting again, gazing up at the portrait, "Every once in a great while, she remembers. I don't know why, but she'll come by and for a day or two she'll be here with me, before it slips from her and she returns to
[20:10] <Kotono> her endless childhood."
[20:13] <Jaela> Unnerved by imagining such an existence for herself, Jaela can only give a slight nod of acknowledgement back.
[20:17] <Kotono> Closing her eyes, as a pair of tears fall, "Those are the best days, when I come home and I hear a cry of Grandmother." Taking a long breath and wiping her tears away, "Such is what it is."
[20:18] <Jaela> "You could wake her up properly, next time she comes."
[20:20] <Kotono> "I could." Hanna speaks, also quietly. "But at heart, she always forgets. It wouldn't be right to use my magic to make her remember. The choice of her heart is eternal childhood, eternal bliss. I won't take that from her." Quietly now, "Look at how much damage it did when I had to make a choice for you, Jaela."
[20:22] <Jaela> "Don't I feel special," Jaela mutters, before shaking her head. "Nevermind that. Is she the only one who ever visits?"
[20:24] <Kotono> "She's an exception," Hanna says, "I think...I think if she had lived she would have transcended without death. All of that proves she had the potential." Looking down at the shelves now, "All the potential in Creation doesn't matter if willingly become a martyr, so that others live."
[20:26] <Jaela> "Yeah. Just makes you wonder what sort of world is just a few generations away from joining the heavens, but still has people kill teenage girls who only try to help others."
[20:27] <Kotono> "It wasn't a few generations," Hanna retorts, and pauses. "Jaela, how old do you think I am?"
[20:28] <Jaela> "Twenty thousand years."
[20:28] <Kotono> Hanna gives Jaela a look at that, crossing her arms.
[20:29] <Jaela> "You would need to give me something to work with, here," Jaela reasons. "Too much? Not enough? If it helps, you don't look a day over ten thousand."
[20:32] <Kotono> "Older than that. Nevermind it," Hanna goes on, "Let's go to the next room."
[20:32] <Jaela> "A million?" Jaela asks, heading outside.
[20:34] <Kotono> Hanna makes an overblown sigh, "My dear daughter, accursing me of such numbers!"
[20:34] * Jaela shrugs. "It's all ridiculous to me. So somewhere in between... say a hundred thousand?"
[20:35] <Kotono> "Close enough," Hanna finally says, going to the next door. Here she pauses a moment, looking to Jaela.
[20:35] <Jaela> "I'm just nineteen, if you forgot."
[20:37] <Kotono> "You're still a child," Hanna shakes her head, "You aren't really mature until your 1,000th birthday or so, and evne then it's touch and go until 10,000."
[20:38] * Jaela shrugs again, not really caring for such ridiculous ways to measure maturity.
[20:40] <Kotono> With a hint of a smile as she reaches out to this door, "His name was Val. I was called back to the Court a month after giving birth, there was an emergency. He had a hard childhood, and his father died young, as many crusaders do. When I finally had a chance to visit, he was a hardhearted young man who had been raised in first orphanages and then the streets." Sighing angrily, "I'd taken
[20:40] <Kotono> pains to ensure him a good childhood even with the fact I had to leave, as did his father. No less than four fell apart. As we were facing down problems from Beshaba, I don't doubt that poor fortune dogged him as a result."
[20:41] <Jaela> "Couldn't you just take him to the Court with you? With his father, if you had to?"
[20:46] <Kotono> "He had duties and responsibilities in the mortal world," Hanna says, "And his father, well..." Sighing longingly, "When he completed the ritual for aid, I appeared in a beam of light. Normally I'd introduce myself, but I saw him and those gorgeous green eyes of his and I was spellbound. He was too - we stared in front of each other for a good minute, in front of the entire congregation. We
[20:46] <Kotono> lasted four whole days before..." Coughing, "The point is that we were passionately, madly in love. Bad enough that we were being temporarily torn apart by duties. I didn't have the heart to take the baby boy he adored so much, either. The campaign ran longer than anyone hoped, plagued by all of Beshaba's foul fortunes. Of course."
[20:48] <Jaela> "Outsiders do tend to have no sense of time," Jaela finds herself saying, although it isn't intended as a rebuke. "Did you manage to mend things with him?"
[20:52] <Kotono> "Eventually." Hanna smiles slightly at that, "He ended up in the local army and made high rank before retiring. He has an altogether lawful bend I never understood, but his heart was pure." Opening the door now, you see it. Hanging in here are military uniforms, gray, gold and red. Racks of weapons and armor are on display, as well as a simple, glass case with medals within.
[20:53] * Jaela decides to take a look at the medal and uniform designs for inspiration. "Oh? How did you manage that?"
[20:55] <Kotono> There's a pause as Hanna follows, "We beat each other half to death, until he worked it out of his system, then he was finally willing to listen. He always found an outlet through violence, so it was a matter of refining it while softening his heart."
[20:56] <Jaela> "I can understand him," Jaela muses, drawing towards the weapon racks next. "But I can also understand how futile it is."
[20:58] <Kotono> Hanna starts to reply, but a startled little noise distracts her. There is a longspear that is floating off its rack - a long, wooden haft and a sharp, corkscrew point. "Come to me," is heard again.
[20:59] <Jaela> "Val's favorite weapon?" Jaela asks, taking it into her arms to examine properly.
[21:06] <Kotono> "No, he won that one at the Battle of Brenner." As Hanna replies the weapon sits in her hands. "Do you feel you are worthy to bear me?"
[21:06] <Jaela> "Does it have a name?"
[21:07] <Kotono> "He never gave it one," Hanna says, "I wasn't even aware the weapon was magical. I thought it was just a battle trophy."
[21:08] <Jaela> "Do you have a name?" Jaela asks, this time addressing the spear. "It's asking me if I'm worthy. Want to respond in my stead?"
[21:11] <Kotono> There is no reply from the spear. "If it matters, I think Jaela's more than worthy." Hanna adds, again to no reply.
[21:14] * Jaela snorts. "So you're not going to introduce yourself to me? The answer's yes. I haven't seen a spear I couldn't use yet, so if you think you're the first, go ahead and do your worst! And once you've come around, we'll be going together on the Crusade to kick the devils off my world!"
[21:32] <Kotono> "Name me," The spear requests in reply.
[21:40] <Jaela> "Now we're talking!" Jaela says in approval. "Gae Ardaigh. It will be your name from now on."
[21:44] <Kotono> "Done," The spear replies, "Use me well."
[21:48] <Jaela> Trusting that her mother will wait on her, Jaela gets acclimatized to the cockscrew-ended spear by running it through a short routine of martial drills. "Since you vouched for me," she then asks Hanna, "I can borrow Gae Ardaigh to fight alongside him?"
[21:54] <Kotono> "Go ahead," Hanna says, shaking her head, "If the weapon's intelligent after all, and it wants to join you, it should."
[21:55] * Jaela salutes her with the spear, and then it is stored away until the time to draw it against their enemies comes.
[21:58] <Kotono> Heading out now quietly, shaking her head, "I think that's enough of this for today," she finally announces. "At least for now."
[21:59] <Jaela> "Before I derail it even more by gathering strong weapons to my cause?" Jaela asks, amused at what took place. "If you say so. What next, then? Do we appeal directly, or wait until we are invited?"
[22:06] <Kotono> "We'll go," Hanna says, "Come on."

[17:02] <Kotono> From there, wandering around in the Court happens. You walk a time, through great and grand arching halls. Past festivities and joy, past dances and drinking. As you walk the halls, "Jaela of Aurora!" A man's voice calls from behind you, strong and musical.
[17:02] <Jaela> "Yes?" she asks, coming about.
[17:05] <Kotono> Behind you is a tall, slender elf. He looks so slender as to be more of a willow-reed. Yet he walks with undeniable strength and purpose, wearing colorful red and purple garb, a golden medallion hanging from his neck. His eyes burn white. As you look at him a sudden sense of unbridled joy surges in Jaela! "The rumors were right! You've returned to the Court!" Smashing one fist into an open palm, "Wonderful!" OOC: K:P if you like.

[17:09] <Kotono> The elf before you is Celeblasson. A renowned elven hero in the mortal realms, he was given instructions to create the Confederation of Liberators, a loose-knit, paramilitary organization of warriors who fight evil and enjoy the patronage of the Court of the Stars. [17:10] * Jaela smiles at the elf while restraining the greater effects of that joy. "So I have. This is my third visit, by now." She tilts her head slightly. "Forgive me, but I was under the impression that you weren't normally spending your time at the Court. This is quite the coincidence!"
[17:12] <Kotono> "Oh, I work out of the Court," He says, "There I was, drinking and figuring out how to attack my devil problem, when I hear talk that one of the Generals of Aurora has come to Court." Nodding along vibrantly and gesturing, "What are the odds?"
[17:13] <Kotono> "Surprisingly close to 100%," Hanna says, with only the barest hint of a smile.
[17:14] <Jaela> Jaela's smile widens. "About close to the odds of me wanting to help you, once I heard about the devil problem, I wager."
[17:15] <Kotono> "C'mon then, my lass," He offers a hand out, "Let's the three of us get somewhere and enjoy a drink while we discuss our mutual problems."
[17:16] * Jaela takes it in a firm grasp. "I would be delighted to."
[17:21] <Kotono> From there, it's a short trip. You find yourself in a richly decorated tavern of sorts, stone benches surrounded by pine trees. Several kegs and bottles lie in a cluster, several eladrin about, talking, drinking and celebrating. Amid a jig being played and great dancing the three of you take to the benches, glasses of wine gotten for all. Once they're passed out, "My boys'n'girls are all in
[17:21] <Kotono> a lick of trouble.  Couple of weeks ago, we were chasing down the source of several doomsday cults. Sacrifices, signs of the End, all those ugly things that don't fit with the Eternal Revel. 'lessi, one of my best hunters, dug up the dirt and found their fortress. See, thing is it turned out to be a trapped, and the entire strike force got captured." Pausing to drink his wine then hold it
[17:21] <Kotono> up to the glittering starlight that leaks through the trees above, "Aaaah, these grapes died happy, they did." Taking another long sip and savoring, "Any case, I need a rescue operation. Did my own digging and found out where they really are. That whole first thing was a complete work."
[17:24] <Jaela> "So they are prisoners of the devils?" Jaela asks with a grimace, needing her wine after hearing that. She is quiet as she drinks. "Since that was two weeks ago, I imagine that the entire thing was a trap and the cult doesn't intend to bring the End after all?"
[17:27] <Kotono> "Hard to say. Thing is, the one leading isn't a devil. Ever crossed blades with a Cardinal of Asmodeus? They're his high priests, top bootlickers of devils." Finishing his wine in a gulp, "The well connected ones act with his own authority. He's got high rank devils dancin' about to his own tune, last I reckoned. Don't know much more about him, unfortunately. It was a trap, but it also may
[17:27] <Kotono> be that they're workin' for the End anyway. I don't know." Admitting that much, "They're tucked away on the Astral now."
[17:30] <Jaela> "Had the misfortune of meeting a clergy of Admodeus once." It is a bitter memory that Jaela would rather not dwell on. "On neutral ground, unfortunately. Back to business, do you know where exactly on Astral they are being held? The size and composition of the enemy forces? And, come to think of it, what would yours be? This was just one strike force out of your organization, was it not?"
[17:34] <Kotono> "Yeah, Void. That's all they call it, Void." Shaking his head, "Should be enough to find it on the Astral. The Cardinal favors malebranche. Ugly things and they hit hard as a damned dragon." Tossing his wineglass aside now, "Got some erinyes to herd 'em."
[17:35] <Kotono> "Anyway, the rub is that most of my other forces are tied up. They're busy fighting their own evils who'll get ahead if they go." Pausing briefly here to shake his head, "So I was thinking about getting someone to help out. Then there I am, and I hear about you."
[17:37] * Jaela taps her fingers against the table, considering this. "No idea on the numbers? If it's just a couple dozen, the three of us can handle the rescue."
[17:41] <Kotono> "That's the best numbers we have," He says, "I can sneak in and do freeing while you do the heavy work of massacring the malebranche."
[17:42] * Jaela grins at that. "I just have to see you try and go unnoticed." She glances at her mother. "Interested?"
[17:46] <Kotono> "I wouldn't let you go alone," Hanna agrees.

[17:50] <Kotono> "Get there, let me sneak and you go attack. Ideally once you have them beaten, the interior descends into chaos as myself and my freed warriors evisercate the devils from the inside," He explains. Grinning at that, "Anyone that's still up at that point can get ground down between us."
[17:54] <Jaela> "No objections to this. About the only question that remains is whether we risk a plane shift right over, or make our way to Astral and seek it out from there."
[17:58] <Kotono> "I say we don't risk it," Hanna speaks up, "If they're capable of laying effective traps and have a powerful priest commanding them, good odds that they've taken measures against shifting right in."
[17:59] <Kotono> "Been chewing that over m'self," Celeblasson admits, "Nearest I can tell, I was going to since we needed a roll of the dice. Now I'm not so sure, since there's three o' us."
[18:01] <Jaela> "Alright, then. We'll do a regular shift to Astral, and I'll lead the way. I should be able to find it easily enough," Jaela suggests. "Then, once there, I will draw the enemy out." She glances at Hanna once more. "I want you to bide your time and watch my back at first, while we see how we're doing. That way, if the defenders have a trick we'll have you to counter it." Her attention returns to Celeblasson. "Do you have your own means of withdrawing, if you need to? Also, any way for us to stay in touch while you sneak about?"
[18:02] <Kotono> "I can get out," Celeblasson replies, "Don't worry about that."
[18:04] * Jaela finishes her drink. "Let's go, then. Astral will eat up enough of our time. Let's not keep the prisoners waiting."

It carries a blade rippling with purple fires, erupting constantly! 20ft ahead of it are four cornugons, each

If we still can't do a thing about these four in that time, we'll just kill them and return."

"I hate to leave your people imprisoned, but we just had this ambush and there might be more of them at the worst timing. You said your own forces were all committed, but the same is not true for mine. We can either recover, or collect a few of my allies and return right away."
