Ok, so we need to collect as much reference art for sprites as we can (still frames from anime are very appreciated). Right now, i need two things: Some random VN-girl in a seifuku or similar, and a gakuran-wearing delinquent. In second pass, it would be great to collect random backgrounds of places. Shots that can serve as Haruhi's house can be very useful!
Please give a hand, actually, everything can be useful.

As far as backgrounds, with the addition of the Umineko(PS3) and Clannad backgrounds to my collection, I think I've got most of it covered. For instance...

Site have pretty neat search for VN/anime chars based on their visual traits. Can yield some good references.
If you want gakuran-clad delinquents you can't do much better than Cromartie High School.
Please also see my post about the art/music from the Gekidou game. Sprite library includes base Tsuruya and mouth animation frames and multiple expressions for the entire SOS-Dan, although some conversion work might be required to bring it into scale with the extant artwork. Also a few BGs, of varying degrees of usefulness.

I think we've got something sir. It's only a fragment, from a probe droid in the Livejournal system, but it's the best lead we've had for original sprite art outside of the existing team.
