As I was browsing the Something Awful forums, I came across a thread about Tytania, which is apparently a new anime from the creator of LoGH, sorta; they're both based on novels written by the same guy, and both from the same studio. It also has a lot of the visual stylings of LoGH; ornate costumes and architecture, a democratic nation versus an empire, warrior clans, et cetera. I downloaded the first episode. So, how was it?

Well, it's decent. The visuals are very nicely done, though the CG work was a little too obvious. And Katsuyuki Konishi, the voice of Kamina, is the voice actor for the little-known admiral from the democratic nation.

But on the plot/character side, there's nothing good here so far. The Tytania -- the aforementioned warrior clan -- are pretty much dicks and that's a problem when the show is named after them. Admiral Kamina is a bit of fun, but he could get old fast.

Finally, the space nerd in me cried out in pain at the battle tactics. Someone needs to teach Studio Artland about the existence of the Z-axis.

If you want to try it, though, here's the torrent link.
