Name: Benjamin Denaghen, aka The Vestige

Catchphrase: "Then again..."

History:

Background

Ben was born in a small village in New England where his parents, famous scholars and explorers, made their home when they weren't out on expeditions in the lost places of the world. Ever since he was an infant, he was brought along on his parents' expeditions to places like the Congo, the Antarctic, Machu Pichu, the Valley of Kings, Saudi Arabia, India, and even some of the exotic Pacific Islands, known to harbor cannibals and beasts of outrageous girth and size...

On the Denaghens' first expedition to Tibet, their small charter plane crashed into the foothills of the Himalayas, and young Ben was suddenly a small orphan in a very large world. He wandered the snowy foothills, hypothermic and near death. Miraculously, a pair of monks, very astonished to see a young foreign lad stumble into their midst, took him into their care and brought him to their abode, a temple built at the top of a lone mountain hidden from the eyes of the world...

At the temple of the Spectrum, Ben became like a son to the head priest and was taught the secrets of their fighting arts, of which there was only three Adepts in each generation. Ben was found to be the third and last Adept of the School of the Spectrum. His body and mind were honed in the solemn stone walls, for the day that he would return to his homeland and take up his teachers' command that he do as many other had done before him: preserve the Spectrum and fight evil wherever he encountered it.

War
Ben had no real interest in the Great War. It was a terrible thing, yes, but there was nothing he could do about it at his age, skilled though he might be. Though he was the mighty Black Adept, he couldn't stop an entire war by himself. However, he could attempt to stop one of the men fueling the War: the Red Adept; his former classmate and onetime friend.

Something evil awoke in the Red Adept after the Master declared the three Adepts. The night after the celebration, an army of figures clothed in black infiltrated the peaceful school and razed the place, killing many of the students or carting them, including the White Adept, off to an unknown destination. Ben managed to save a few of the student as he hurried to the Master's quarters, determined to drive the invaders off. He arrived just in time to see the Red Adept drive his sword into the Master's chest. Filled with rage and despair, Ben attacked his enemy, but was no match for the Red master, who was filled with a temporary boost of power from the Destruction of the School and Deaths of the students and teachers. Ben barely fled with his body intact.

Blah. Incomplete, but should give a general idea of the mechanics, and give a synopsis so that Watashiwa and Zeph can work on at least one set of their guest star aspects. Cursed writer's block.

The things I could do outside the university setting, now that I didn't have to wait for the pompous fools at the college! I was building another science, my science, wild science, robots and lasers and disembodied brains. A science that buzzed and glowed; it wanted to do things. It could get up and walk, fly, fight, sprout garish glowing creations in the remotest parts of the world, domes and towers and architectural fever dreams. And it was angry. It was mad science."

I rather dislike the color yellow. They should use blue instead

The Now
Dr. Zalgo, mild-mannered scientist, deranged artist, and frequently seen playing at cards with a strange smile on his face. He frequently disappears from public's view at months at a time with the only explanation as to when he returns "Research into foreign lands." Rather peculiar, in all, but his art are wonderful alien landscapes and twisting shapes that disturb and terror the eye. He never seems to mind when they vanish under odd circumstances, only responding that they will all show up again.

Due to that most are unwilling to purchase his "masterpieces," and instead manages to get buy on an exotic pet shop business.

Usually seen with a small smile on his face, he is surprisingly stocky, and has slightly gray skin. His hair is flaxen (and receding-he usually wears a fedora to hide this). He gives off the perpetual appearance of slight illness.

The War
During this time he was a fair enough field surgeon that worked near the front lines, arranging for lives to be saved and listening quietly to others. He pondered about what was... and arose to his great reputation during this time. He painted soul-wrenching pictures of terrible scenes both in the tent and out; with things lingering around the edges that faded as you looked. He hoped at the time it would help educate a world and prevent another future such as this one, but alas, it does not seem to have worked... and the mysterious actions of those nearby his works have made many superstitious about it.

This attracted the attentions of those working in the Centurion Club, and Dr. Zalgo was offered entrance into it on the basis of an extremely jumbled set of personal notes. He has, of course, cheerfully picked up where these research notes left off in the same jumbled manner.
