You need a couple of good advisors who can get things done," T says, popping down a bit of bread and swallowing it. "Are you going to purge any of the civil infrastructure that stayed behind?"
01[20:39] <@Annerose> "Doesn't make sense to do that," Annerose responds. "The worst of the lot all fled, and if we tear everything down who's going to be taking care of the citizens? There's way too much people to keep a personal touch. Best to reform the remaining excesses." She grins at T, pointing a breadstick at him. "That's where you come in."
[20:39] <~Tiny_Ko_Army> Helena yawns, head resting on her hand as she picks at her breakfast. She glances over at Erad, yawning again.
[20:40] <~Tiny_Ko_Army> "Oh, keep talking dirty, "T grins, "Go on, this should be good."
[20:41] <@Erad> Erad, for his part, is eagerly enjoying his food -- with a little bit more pep than usual. "If you really needed to, isn't there some magic that makes people tell the truth or something?"
01[20:42] <@Annerose> "Clergical magic," Annerose points out. "And it's good for some things, not so good for actual governance." She grimaces. "Imagine having to say nothing but the truth if you came to resolve some bureaucratic nonsense. And imagine the legions of priests we would need for that!"
[20:43] <@Erad> Erad nods. "Fair enough. Probably some way around it anyway."
01[20:44] <@Annerose> "Oh, there definitely are around such magics," Annerose agrees glumly. "The worst people would find it easiest."
[20:44] <~Tiny_Ko_Army> "It's also fucking horrible," T speaks up, "People have secrets for good reasons."
[20:45] <@Erad> "I wasn't suggesting we start an inquisition." Erad says with a huff. "Just a simple 'are you secretly an Aurilite' or something."
01[20:45] <@Annerose> "I'd agree in principle, but it's not actually that strong," Annerose tells T. "It doesn't force you to speak, either, so that won't happen."
[20:47] <@Erad> "If we really have a question about someone, I guess I can see if they have a horrible aura around them." Erad says with a shrug. "But I think you're right, most of the problems left or died."
[20:49] <~Tiny_Ko_Army> "Gah!" The quiet room you're eating in is disrupted as a soldier rushes in. His leather armor is torn and chest bleeds. "Report from the dungeons. Monsters are coming in from below." He falls to a knee, using his spear to stay up. "Great troll-beasts of ice."
01[20:49] <@Annerose> "Here?" Annerose asks in surprise. "The dungeons right below?"
[20:50] <~Tiny_Ko_Army> "Yes," The guard says, "They ambushed us."
01[20:51] <@Annerose> Annerose pushes the rest of her breakfast away, rising to her feet. "Lead the way. We shall deal with the infestation."
[20:51] <@Erad> One of Maggen's experiments forgotten about? Hm. Erad rises to his feet as well.

[20:59] <~Tiny_Ko_Army> You race downstairs to the normal entrance to the dungeon - a tucked away room that leads to a circular flight of stairs going into the depths. Two guards stand at attention outside of it, half a dozen more waiting while an officer commands it, "Ma'am!" The officer salutes, a blonde, bearded brute of a man. "Soldiers are deploying to all known entrances of the dungeon and various side passages,

01[21:01] <@Annerose> "Stop anything from getting out," Annerose orders, though she avoids from micro-managing as he must know his job well enough. "We're going in to deal with the problem at the source."
[21:02] <~Tiny_Ko_Army> A sharp salute follows, "Do you need an escort, ma'am? We have a reserve of soldiers for your command."
01[21:03] <@Annerose> "Just a guide. The rest should be focused on protecting our people out here."
[21:30] <~Tiny_Ko_Army> One soldier steps forward, "Private Johrson, ma'am," he reports.
01[21:31] <@Annerose> "Lead the way, Private," Annerose tells him, making things warm for those around her but downright freezing for herself and Helena.

[21:56] <@Erad> Erad rolls his eyes. "Oh, of course, great. Can't just be ice trolls." He mutters as they continue on.
[21:57] <~Tiny_Ko_Army> "Too smart for trolls, yeah," T says, "You shoul dknow by now it's never just trolls, Erad.

[21:59] <@Erad> "Yeah, yeah. Oh, yeah, I forgot to tell you all but Bahamut warned us about Smiles." Erad says. "Nothing specific, but we got his attention, apparently."
[22:02] <~Tiny_Ko_Army> "Great," T grunts as you reach the bottom, "Attention I could live without." Here is a heavy door leading ahead, iced over completely. Thick ice coats it and seals it in place, "That also wasn't there, ma'am," The scout says, "Ahead is the first main hall of the dungeons, with cells for prisoners of minor value and minor crimes."
01[22:03] <@Annerose> "Who are we currently holding there?" Annerose asks, even as she turns the temperature over the door way up.
[22:04] <~Tiny_Ko_Army> "Several pickpockets, a few persistent drunks who assaulted soldiers, a couple of loons as well." Under Annerose's power, the thick ice begins to melt, freeing the door.
[22:04] <@Erad> "They're doing a really bad job of invading, aren't they?" Erad asks.
[22:05] <~Tiny_Ko_Army> "Yeah, they're hunkering down. This isn't an invasion, at least not aimed at capturing the castle in this way," T says, "Doesn't make sense. They're playing defense, or for time."
01[22:06] <@Annerose> "People we should try to get out if we can," Annerose decides. "We'll find out the reason behind this soon enough."
[22:08] <~Tiny_Ko_Army> T frowns more and more, "I'm going back up," He finally says, "This might also be a distraction and something's happening upside."
01[22:09] <@Annerose> "Take Helena with you, then," Annerose says with a glance at them both. "I won't tell you to ignore your gut feelings, but we're not going anywhere on our own in this situation."
[22:11] <~Tiny_Ko_Army> T nods sharply and Helena does the same, both hurrying back upstairs.
01[22:15] <@Annerose> When the ice around the door is sufficiently melted, Annerose gestures at it, saying, "Would you mind terribly, Erad? And I think you should lead from here on."
[22:16] <@Erad> Erad nods and opens the door! Hopefully he doesn't get filled with arrows when he does it...
[22:22] <~Tiny_Ko_Army> The door opens - or should, but something's blocking it from swinging open. You can feel something heavy against it on the far side.
[22:22] <@Erad> "Oh for the love of..." Erad grunts. "Something's blocking it. Get back a second, you two."
01[22:24] <@Annerose> Annerose waves the private back, stepping aside herself.
[22:24] <@Erad> Erad steps back himself and tries to simply destroy the door with his new trick!

[22:42] <~Tiny_Ko_Army> Yep, that does in the door. Between burning and acid, it falls and parts of it are gone. You can see several wooden bedframes are blocking it, the fire having spread to those as well. On the plus side, with most of the door gone, you could probably dart through and try to move them at once.

[20:04] <~Kotono> The bedframes are knocked flying, revealing the passage ahead. It's as you'd expect - dark, dank and cold. Wooden cell doors lead to rooms with fates best not thought about.

[20:16] <~Kotono> It's fairly dim but lit, enough to see by. Ahead you can see a T intersection, the line of the T going off to the right while the rest of the T's top goes on ahead. The light fades from that passage to the right, plunging into darkness there. You just can't see much due to the angle, darkvision or not,  you'd have to get closer.

With the light, you can see that caltrops litter the floor, and plus you can note there's an odd, greenish tint to the tips, something smeared on.
[20:28] <@Erad> "More caltrops, I think these are poisoned." Erad says. He goes to look the other way to see if there are any caltrops in that direction also.

[20:34] <~Kotono> The turn is pointed at, "This leads to deeper cells, torture chambers and Maggen's Boneyard. He had a few bodies buried there that he didn't want released." Then he points to the way clear of caltrops, "That leads to another few rows of cells, an old kitchen we only use in emergencies, a supply room and a small sleeping room in case we're stuck down here."
[20:36] <@Erad> Erad rolls his eyes. "Of course he had a fucking place people called 'Maggen's Boneyard.'"
[20:37] <~Kotono> Rock grunts and sniffs the air, "Smells cold," he points towards the caltrop free hallway. "Cold cave."
01[20:38] <@Annerose> "And the other direction, Rock?"
[20:41] <~Kotono> "Like dungeon. Sweat and dirty bodies," he grunts.
01[20:41] <@Annerose> Annerose looks for a pebble or stone fragment to cast another Light on, offering it to Erad afterwards. "While we hold here," she tells him, "continue down this cleared path and see whether any prisoners remain. If so, free them and bring them over here so they would not become hostages as we move down the other path."
[20:42] <@Erad> Erad nods and goes to check, heading down the cleared path first to look for anyone!

[20:48] <~Kotono> You go to the end of the cleared hallway. You find the door ahead is rather predictably closed.
[20:50] <@Erad> Erad will go to open it!
[20:52] <~Kotono> Oh, wonder of wonders. It's unlocked. It's leads to another long hall of cells, similar to the last hall.
[20:54] <@Erad> Erad will go through the door!! And into the hallway! He will just look around.
[20:56] <~Kotono> It's a long dungeon hallway. It's as interesting as it sounds. There's a door on the other end that leads to another hall of these, and then another. After that one you come to another door, as well as a normal door on the left wall nearby ,rather than a cell door.
[20:58] <@Erad> Erad raises his voice after he opens the other door. "Anyone down here?!" I mean, he's already holding something that gives him away, so it isn't like he's going to surprise anyone at this point.
[20:59] <~Kotono> "In here," The door on the left cracks open. "Get in before they get you!"
[21:00] <@Erad> "I'm the rescue party, if they're getting me then we all have a problem." Erad says. "Come on, we have a safe spot for you all."
[21:01] <~Kotono> "Just me, sir Erad," The man who comes out is a soldier, spear at the ready. "I-I have a report, sir!"
[21:02] <@Erad> "Come on, explain on the way." Erad says with a gesture as he starts walking back.
[21:04] <~Kotono> "They came out from back there," he points to the door you haven't gone in, "They moved fast and decisively, not like wild trolls, sir. They moved like soldiers, at least when I got a look at them when hi, er, assession the situation from a place of safety, sir.'
[21:08] <@Erad> "Did you engage with them at all?" Erad asks as he walks back.
[21:09] <~Kotono> "No sir," The soldier says, "Gathering intelligence about the enemy took priority than fighting, as retreat wasn't possible at the time, sir."
[21:10] <@Erad> "Good on you. Where are all the prisoners?" He asks.
[21:16] <~Kotono> "I heard a bunch of noise about it," he admits, "But it quickly faded away."

01[20:56] <@Annerose> Annerose nods slowly. "Is there a human smell? Or an elf, or something along those lines?" It would make sense that whoever is causing the diversion would be around.
[20:56] <~Kotono> Rock grunts, "Yes. Smell like dirty humans."
01[21:01] <@Annerose> "Excellent. We'll go once Erad is back." And it was a great idea for T to head back up. Together with Helena and the bulk of their forces they should handle most anything, at least in the time it would send someone to rush down here and get her.
[21:03] <~Kotono> Rock grunts again as your guide says, "Awfully quiet for a troll invasion, ma'am," he remarks as yo uwait.
01[21:07] <@Annerose> "This is not a troll invasion," Annerose states. "Given that Rock has told us the trolls are a magical illusion and that all we've seen here was likely meant to slow us down, the real attack must be taking place above ground." She frowns. "Unfortunately, if we refuse to pay this threat any sort of attention, those behind the illusions, barricades and caltropes may well decide to strike from here. Our job is to discourage that, plug the holes in our defenses and, if possible, to get one of them for interrogation."
[21:08] <~Kotono> "Yes, ma'am," The guard says and after a pause, "Sir Tear seemed to think so too. It's trickery is what it is, vile trickery!"
01[21:10] <@Annerose> "In the end, better here than out in the city where the people we're supposed to protect live," Annerose muses. "Would you agree?"
[21:16] <~Kotono> "Yes, ma'am," The guard agrees immediately.
[21:17] <~Kotono> Meanwhile the door opens and Erad returns, this time with another soldier.
01[21:17] <@Annerose> "Where are the prisoners?" Annerse immediately asks, as no one else seems to be following.
[21:18] <@Erad> Erad thumbs at the soldier as he walks up. "He mentioned some noise but didn't see anything, right?"
01[21:19] <@Annerose> "Are you suggesting they were all taken away?" Annerose asks, looking between the two.
[21:22] <@Erad> "Or they just escaped during the chaos." Erad says.
01[21:23] <@Annerose> "This seems unlikely," Annerose notes, looking at their guide for confirmation. He was part of the group holding upstairs, after all. "Still, that path is a dead end and we're ready to proceed here?"
[21:29] <~Kotono> A nod to that, "Barring enemy action, ma'am."
01[21:29] <@Annerose> "We'll just have to take that risk. Let's go."
01[21:30] <@Annerose> OOC: Erad leads, then Rock, then I and the two guards bring up the rear

[21:41] <~Kotono> "Ah. Ma'm, yes ma'am," The soldier confirms. Meanwhile you open the door, only to find its locked and plain stuck.
[21:43] <~Kotono> Rock eyes it, "Why humans lock so many doors? Stupid."

[21:44] <@Erad> Erad huffs. "Isn't there a spell that helps with this? We probably have to."
