Next week ... determine if I want a cat that badly.

I think I do.

Being a cat person myself, I'd say that with cats it's even more important (and harder) than with dogs to find one with a proper personality. In the worst case, what you get is an evil furry dominatrix hell-bent on trashing all your furniture and peeing in your shoes if everything doesn't go exactly as she wants, in the best case you can get a cat that is just as affectionate as the best of dogs, but without the demanding dependency issue. Oh, and cats don't have to be taken out for a walk when it rains ^_^

Some breeds like Siamese (very loud, though), Norwegian Forest Cat or Ragdoll are naturally people-oriented (I have a most tender, sweet Norwegian myself) but in the end you'll have to see the cat yourself before choosing one, to see how it behaves (very roughly, aggression and avoidance are undesirable traits, curiosity, playfulness and a trustful disposition good ones).

Exactly right.  I've only ever disliked one cat, and he's a brutish Maine Coone with agression issues. :p

rofl. This is normal for me, you'll learn. A third rocket flew overhead about an hour after the first two. I was taking a nap. I didn't even roll over for it.
