Read through Worm and got oriented in the universe, now appreciating all the accumulated "What are you reading?" recs that I'd ignored previously.

Neat. What did you think of Worm itself?

I found some new tricks to make music levels in SMM2 (specifically platforming music levels), and one creator (Bossman) seems to think they works and is making a level with them already, and another (com_poser) is testing them right now and possibly making a level tonight on stream, taking advantage of them.

Which is super dope even if I haven't made a level myself yet, since I'm still experimenting with mechanics of music levels.

If curious, this involves music BPM and cheetah autoscroll. Normally, if you make a music level without autoscroll, you need to force Mario to move at a consistent speed forward, and unless you're doing a run level, you can't include platforming. For a run level you're limited to jumps and maybe some power-up techs.

With autoscroll speed, assuming you divide a beat (1/4 note) into 4 tile spaces, you get BPM 110 with cheetah speed, and half that for Rabbit speed or quarter for Turtle.

You couldn't subdivide outside that, without sacrificing 1/8 or 1/16 notes, at least until the music guys found a way to make half tiles notes via semi-solids. Assuming cheetah speed, that lets you subdivide to 2 tiles per beat (BPM 220), 3 tiles (BPM 147), and 5 tiles (BPM 88).

Recently I found a way to make quarter tile notes, opening path for 2.5 tiles per beat (BPM 176), 3.5 tiles (BPM 126), and 4.5 tiles (BPM 98).

So that opens a lot more options for platforming/music mario levels, which I really enjoy more than all the other kinds of mario levels, so yay me. ^_^

Edit:

Bossman uploaded a level with it as I was typing this post! Now I just want to get home from work and play that now...

Got youtube shares?  :)  I don't fiddle with mario maker but wouldn't mind listening to what you made.
Well, Goodbye.
