Ebiris

[15:21] <Ebiris> After looting everything of value from the subterranean ruins, the three heroes join hands and prepare to depart, Alveria casting her teleport spell to send them all to Moonhaven. The familiar sensation of brief lightness envelops the trio before they reappear at their destination... except, this isn't Moonhaven. (more)
[15:23] <Ebiris> Instead of finding themselves in a busy town square, Amonet, Alveria, and Gourash all find themselves in a small square room barely twenty feet wide. The walls are made of a greyish green stone, rounded brickwork, and a single small wooden desk sits in the middle of the room, with a wooden chair pulled up against it. (more)
[15:24] <Ebiris> If not for Amonet's lance, it would be completely black. No doors are immediately visible.
[15:24] <Gourash> "...This not look like Moonhaven."
[15:25] <Alveria> "It's not anything like where I was trying to take us to, either," mutters Alveria, walking over to the desk.
[15:26] * Gourash checks the walls, looking for doors, hollowness, breakability.
[15:26] <Ebiris> The desk looks faintly wobbly - really, it's a glorified table, little more. There's a single drawer recessed under its surface on the side the chair is pulled in at.
[15:26] * Alveria pulls open the drawer.
[15:27] <Ebiris> Inside the drawer, Alveria finds several sheafs of blank parchment, an inkwell, and two white feather quills.
[15:27] <Ebiris> OOC: search check, G
[15:28] <Amonet> "Seems like we will be here until you can cast teleport again, Alveria, wherever here is?" Amonet voices at last.
[15:28] <Gourash> roll 1d20
[15:28] * Hatbot --> "Gourash rolls 1d20 and gets 19." [1d20=19]
[15:29] * Alveria searches the rest of the desk, turning it inside-out as best she can. "It's possible," she replies, sitting down in the chair once she's done. "But this is unusual. I've never heard of a teleport spell misfiring so... randomly. And this is a strange room..."
[15:30] <Amonet> "I could help with the search efforts," Amonet says uncertainly, looking between mage and barbarian.
[15:31] <Ebiris> Gourash finds the walls to be solid and sturdy, and no sign of any doors. Alveria finds herself unable to find anything besides the obvious items in the drawer... But just as she settles into the chair, a segment of the wall behind her dissolves into a doorway filled with blinding white light that sillouettes a humanoid figure standing there.
[15:32] <Alveria> "I found something."
[15:32] <Gourash> "I see...  Who you?" Gourash turned to the light.
[15:33] <Amonet> "Hello there!" Amonet greets the humanoid figure happily.
[15:33] <Alveria> "Why are you greeting him happily? This is something to be irritated about!"
[15:34] <Ebiris> The figure steps in, with the wall sealing up behind him and letting you see him properly. He's a middle aged human, balding on top, and wearing a black and gold trimmed suit with a large ruffled white collar. "Ahh, good, you're all here," he nods primly, stepping over to stand behind Alveria and coughing as he looks down at her.
[15:35] * Alveria looks mostly irritable, but she eventually vacates the chair and stands around the other side of the desk.
[15:35] <Amonet> "It's important to make a good first impression!"
[15:35] <Alveria> "One wasn't made on *me*."
[15:36] <Gourash> "If this hiring, you need to work on sending letter first," Gourash guessed.
[15:36] <Ebiris> The man sits down and pulls out some parchment from the drawer along with the inkwell and a quill, which he dabs in the latter. "Please, do sit," he gestures vacantly to the other side of the desk where three stone chairs seem to rise up out of the floor as if it were liquid.
[15:37] * Alveria slouches on her chair, looking like a despondant student.
[15:37] * Amonet likewise takes a seat
[15:38] <Ebiris> After inking up his quill, he looks up at the trio. His expression seems utterly placid and neutral, eyes like hollow sockets as he regards them. "Now, for the record, could each of you state your name and profession, please?"
[15:40] * Gourash rubs his head, sitting down on the stone chair, uncomfortable.  "What record?"
[15:41] <Ebiris> "The record of your arrival," he replies blandly. "So few stay the way they arrived for long, in this realm. My lord likes to keep a record of such things for later comparison."
[15:42] <Amonet> "Who is your lord?" Amonet asks him. "We can't help just any lord with his records, you understand."
[15:42] <Alveria> "Also, why are we here?" asks Alveria, irritably.
[15:42] <Gourash> "Gourash not like the sound of that," Eying the others.
[15:43] <Ebiris> "Lord Dagoth, ruler of all you survey," the man replies, idly dabbing his quill in the inkwell once more. "You have been summoned here, likely against your will, I imagine, for his amusement."
[15:45] <Alveria> "Who?"
[15:45] <Gourash> "Gourash not part of theme park or kobold.  Dagoth choose poorly," He growls.  "Gourash, Mercenary, now where way out."
[15:46] <Ebiris> "Lord Dagoth, ruler of all you survey," he repeats with a bored look at Alveria. "I understand you may wish to complain, but would you kindly answer my questions, first?"
[15:47] <Amonet> "I answer to no one aside from Horus-Re!" Amonet exclaims, standing up.
[15:47] <Alveria> "
[15:47] * Alveria was about to say something, but shrugs and stays silent.
[15:48] <Ebiris> "Names and professions, please," he asks once more.
[15:49] <Amonet> "It won't be more than twenty-four hours, right?" Amonet asks Alveria.
[15:49] <Alveria> "How should I know?" replies Alveria, crossly. "Alveria. Scholar."
[15:50] <Ebiris> He nods and scrawls something on the parchment that none of you can actually read, before looking expectantly at Amonet and Gourash.
[15:50] * Amonet looks expectantly back.
[15:52] <Ebiris> "I will point out that you have until thirteen o' clock to escape this realm, or else risk becoming a permanent fixture," he adds after a moment of locking eyes with Amonet. Pulling out a strange golden disc and looking at it, he adds, "Delaying the formalities here will not be of use."
[15:53] <Gourash> "Gourash really, really, really dislike bored mages."
[15:54] * Amonet sighs, seeing no real reason beside pettiness to reveal her name. "Amonet. My occupation is that which Horus-Re desires of me."
[15:59] <Ebiris> He nods and scribbles some more onto the parchment... quite a bit more, actually. He spends a solid minute writing before he rolls up the parchment and carefully replaces the inkwell and quill back in the drawer. As he stands up, the walls surrounding you suddenly begin to fragment, light pouring in from the outside as the bricks... transform into butterflies?
[15:59] <Ebiris> Hundreds, even thousands of insects, their wings patterned like the stonework suddenly take off, flying away in a vast swarm.
[15:59] <Ebiris> You find yourself surveying a bizaare landscape of warped scale before you, an enormous fairytale castle in the distance, twisting rivers and verdant forests, leaning towers and tiny mountains all dot the land before you - you must be hundreds of feet in the air, you'd guess from the vista afforded.
[15:59] <Ebiris> And the air... unlike the blue sky of Toril, seems to be a silvery waterlike effect, with a massive globe hanging overhead that emits light comparable to the sun, although you can see a sliver of black on one side, as if half emits light and half darkness, with the darkness turned away from you.
[16:00] <Amonet> "It's going to be a long walk home," Amonet says mournfully.
[16:01] <Gourash> "...Did Gourash mention he really not like this?  Can we magic out?" Gourash wondered to Alvie.
[16:01] <Alveria> "I don't believe it is that simple," replies Alveria. "He hijacked my own spell, so it would seem unwise to try and get back another way." Spitting, she shakes her head. "It looks like we'll have to play along."
[16:02] <Ebiris> "You must reach the tallest tower of my Lord's castle to leave this realm," the unnamed man points to the huge palace in the distance. "But, as I said before, you have until thirteen o'clock before you may find it impossible to leave." As he speaks, you feel your stomachs lurch, and the now open platform you stand upon begins to descend downwards at an alarming rate.
[16:03] * Gourash slumps slightly, cursing bored wizards, pondering killing the unnamed man before deciding it'd be better just to rush.
[16:03] * Alveria stumbles on the platform a bit and grabs Amonet's shoulder for support. "Where *are* we?" she asks, confused.
[16:05] <Ebiris> "The realm of Lord Dagoth is called Sheograsp," you are told, the balding man seeming untroubled by the rapid descent, even as the floor slams into the ground with a thunderous crash!  Now at ground level, you can see none of the landscape, instead only high stone walls on all sides, with walled paths leading off in all four directions.
[16:05] <Ebiris> "And this," he gestures expansively, "Is the Labyrinth. Many fail to even find their way out of it... you may meet some of them."
[16:06] <Gourash> "You stop talking now," Gourash eyed the height of the walls around them, seeing if he could scale them.
[16:06] <Amonet> "You seem like a bad person," Amonet tells him in return. "We will probably punish you one day."
[16:07] <Alveria> "How long until the thirteenth hour?" queries Alveria.
[16:08] <Ebiris> They're about thirty feet tall, the passages ten feet wide. The surfaces are fairly smooth, but not impossible to scale. "I only follow the commands of my Lord," the man replies blandly, before tossing the golden circular object to Alveria. "You have twelve hours and... fifty two minutes."
[16:09] * Alveria glances at the device.
[16:09] <Gourash> "Ignore  him," Gourash attempted to haul himself up the walls to give them a better sense of direction and routing.
[16:09] <Gourash> roll 1d20+19 climb
[16:09] * Hatbot --> "Gourash rolls 1d20+19 climb and gets 25." [1d20=6]
[16:10] <Ebiris> It looks like a the face of a waterclock. But rather than 12 hour markings, it has 13. The hour hand is just after thirteen, while the minute hand is a bit further on.
[16:10] <Ebiris> OOC: make another check, G
[16:11] <Gourash> roll 1d20+19 another climb check
[16:11] * Hatbot --> "Gourash rolls 1d20+19 another climb check and gets 21." [1d20=2]
[16:11] <Ebiris> Gourash gets up about twenty feet before he loses his footing and slips, tumbling back downwards!
[16:11] <Ebiris> OOC: you can make a jump check to reduce the damage
[16:12] <Ebiris> OOC: belay that
[16:13] <Ebiris> Gourash finds himself struggling to find handholds after getting twenty feet up. Meanwhile, the bald man walks over to an adjacent wall, which forms a white doorway before him like the one you saw earlier.
[16:13] * Alveria tries following him.
[16:14] <Ebiris> OOC: make a... dex check, Alvie
[16:14] <Gourash> roll 1d20+19 keep trying.
[16:14] * Hatbot --> "Gourash rolls 1d20+19 keep trying. and gets 27." [1d20=8]
[16:14] <Alveria> roll 1d20+1 it's not like I'm running right after him to smack headfirst into a wall
[16:14] * Hatbot --> "Alveria rolls 1d20+1 it's not like I'm running right after him to smack headfirst into a wall and gets 16." [1d20=15]
[16:16] <Ebiris> Gourash hauls himself up atop the wall, finding himself surveying a vast maze that goes for miles in all directions that he can see... Meanwhile, Alveria is able to duck in after the balding man as he steps through the doorway he created, just an instant before it closes!
[16:17] * Gourash looks for the castle and sees if they can walk easily up here.
[16:17] * Amonet blinks. "Together, we stand; divided, we fall...?"
[16:17] <Ebiris> The castle is visible, but it's way in the distance, far past the edge of the labyrinth.
[16:17] <Gourash> "Gourash not going anywhere... Getting high ground to see.  This way probably best..." He looked down.  "Where Alvie go?"  He lowered a rope down.
[16:18] <Amonet> "Alveria went into a hole in the wall. It is no longer here." Amonet seems irritated.
[16:20] <Gourash> "...that not too bright.  Alvie  supposed to be smarter.  Come on, let's  try and find the shortest route and stay out of the traps."
[16:21] <Amonet> "I believe we should stay a while and wait for her. If she finds a way back, it would likely be here, after all."
[16:22] <Gourash> "Lets take a look around anyway...  Cllimb up," Gourash supported the rope.
[16:23] <Amonet> Meanwhile, Amonet uses her lance to make a crude arrow pointing up, before slowly using the rope to climb up.
[16:23] <Ebiris> OOC: climb check
[16:24] <Amonet> OOC: Can I take 20 or something and get G's aid?
[16:24] <Amonet> OOC: He could probably pull me up if I just hold on
[16:25] <Gourash> OOC: Don't take twenty.  You have a rope.  I'm aid anothering.  You should be able to make it
[16:26] <Amonet> roll 1d20
[16:26] * Hatbot --> "Amonet rolls 1d20 and gets 2." [1d20=2]
[16:28] <Gourash> roll 1d20+19 aid another autosuccess
[16:28] * Hatbot --> "Gourash rolls 1d20+19 aid another autosuccess and gets 30." [1d20=11]
[16:30] <Ebiris> It takes some struggling, but eventually Amonet is able to clamber up where Gourash is.
[16:30] * Amonet continues to leave marks at reasonable intervals, indicating their direction, while following Gourash and his animalistic senses.
[16:31] * Gourash heads generally towards the tower over the walls, looking around and down to get an idea of what kind of mess they walked into.
[16:31] <Ebiris> Gourash gets a bit closer before finding that he'd have to either climb down then up onto the next wall, or take a jump at it.
[16:33] <Gourash> OOC: How longs the jump?
[16:34] <Ebiris> OOC: 10 feet
[16:36] <Gourash> "...Wait here, and keep an eye out for alvie" gourash simply leaps across, exploring the nearby walls routes for a few minutes before returning.
[16:36] <Gourash> roll 1d20 int yo
[16:36] * Hatbot --> "Gourash rolls 1d20 int yo and gets 5." [1d20=5]
[16:37] <Ebiris> It's very complicated, and Gourash doesn't think he can pinpoint an accurate route to the exit even with this vantage. It just seems to get twisted around too much for him to cope with.
[16:38] <Gourash> "Gourash hate this maze and Dagor...  Alveria back yet?" He ask as he returns, very unhappy at being trapped.
[16:43] * Gourash helps Amonet down and begins simply taking the most straightforward route he can, as fits him.
[16:44] <Ebiris> roll 1d100
[16:44] * Hatbot --> "Ebiris rolls 1d100 and gets 49." [1d100=49]
[16:46] <Ebiris> After walking some ways, trusting in Gourash's uncivilised instincts, the intrepid duo get an unpleasant surprise as an emanciated figure with tufts of coarse brown fur over his body and a deformed snout-like face rounds a corner. He has a set of black horns erupting from his head, giving him the overall appearance of a deformed and feeble minotaur.
[16:46] <Ebiris> He makes a pathetic and pained mooing noise as he sees the pair, before lowering his head and kicking the ground, like a bull readying to charge.
[16:48] <Gourash> Feeble or not, he wasn't to trust such, leaping to the attack with his axe.
[16:49] <Gourash> roll 1d20+1 init!
[16:49] * Hatbot --> "Gourash rolls 1d20+1 init! and gets 3." [1d20=2]
[16:49] <Ebiris> roll 1d20+1
[16:49] * Hatbot --> "Ebiris rolls 1d20+1 and gets 21." [1d20=20]
[16:50] <Gourash> roll 1d20+1 Amonet
[16:50] * Hatbot --> "Gourash rolls 1d20+1 Amonet and gets 7." [1d20=6]
[16:51] <Ebiris> "Em pleh!" the feebled minotaur groans as he charges at Gourash, head down!
[16:51] <Ebiris> roll 1d20+8
[16:51] * Hatbot --> "Ebiris rolls 1d20+8 and gets 24." [1d20=16]
[16:51] <Ebiris> roll 4d4+4
[16:52] * Hatbot --> "Ebiris rolls 4d4+4 and gets 16." [4d4=4, 3, 1, 4]
[16:52] <Ebiris> OOC: -2
[16:52] <Ebiris> He charges straight into Gourash, his horns punching viciously into the barbarian's armour to stagger him!
[16:52] <Ebiris> OOC: Amonet
[16:52] <Gourash> OOC: Yes, 2/-
[16:54] * Gourash groans in pain, grabbing the minitaur and pushing it back, leaving the painful wound behind, his axe swinging into the gap presented with terrifying force.
[16:54] <Gourash> roll 1d20+18-3
[16:54] * Hatbot --> "Gourash rolls 1d20+18-3 and gets 22." [1d20=7]
[16:55] <Gourash> roll 1d20+13-3
[16:55] * Hatbot --> "Gourash rolls 1d20+13-3 and gets 23." [1d20=13]
[16:55] <Ebiris> OOC: two hits
[16:55] <Gourash> roll 1d12+13+6
[16:55] * Hatbot --> "Gourash rolls 1d12+13+6 and gets 21." [1d12=2]
[16:55] <Gourash> roll 1d12+13+6
[16:55] * Hatbot --> "Gourash rolls 1d12+13+6 and gets 30." [1d12=11]
[16:56] <Ebiris> Gourash swiftly and decisively eviscerates the threat, leaving it collapsed in a rapidly growing puddle of blood.
[16:58] * Gourash steps over it, growling.  "What a bad sense of humor."  He continued onwards with stern determination not to get locked in here.
[16:59] * Amonet continues to leave her markings as she follows.
[16:59] * Gourash eyes her oddly for a moment, then nods in understanding, making sure not to head too far in front and give her time to mark their path as they went.
[17:02] <Ebiris> roll 1d100
[17:02] * Hatbot --> "Ebiris rolls 1d100 and gets 37." [1d100=37]
[17:03] <Ebiris> Time drags on for the pair as they wander the vast labyrinth, an hour passing to little result. At least they pass none of Amonet's markings, so don't appear to be doubling back on themselves... But it's hard to shake the feeling of being lost.
[17:04] <Amonet> "Maybe we should try our original plan of going atop the walls?" Amonet suggests. "The short breaks to descend and start anew would be worth it, if we could keep direction."
[17:05] * Gourash shrugs. "We could climb up and take a look.  Very confusing maze."
[17:06] <Amonet> "You are the more capable amongst us for this purpose."
[17:08] * Gourash climbs up, looks around to see if he can get any better sense of things.
[17:08] <Gourash> roll 1d20+19 climb one
[17:08] * Hatbot --> "Gourash rolls 1d20+19 climb one and gets 28." [1d20=9]
[17:09] <Gourash> roll 1d20+19 climb two
[17:09] * Hatbot --> "Gourash rolls 1d20+19 climb two and gets 38." [1d20=19]
[17:09] <Gourash> roll 1d20  int check
[17:09] * Hatbot --> "Gourash rolls 1d20 int check and gets 5." [1d20=5]
[17:09] <Ebiris> This is really complicated! Gourash thinks he's closer to the edge, at least, but wow are there a lot of twists and turns ahead.
[17:10] <Gourash> "Um, we're getting closer...I think," He  looks to see if they could just go straight towards it, assuming climbing over all the walls.
[17:11] <Ebiris> It'd involve a few jumps or wall switches, but inevitably that would reach the exit of the labyrinth, yes.
[17:13] * Amonet supports that plan of action!
[17:16] <Ebiris> As they begin the arduous (for Amonet at least) task of climbing up and down numerous walls, the pair happen to notice three flying humanoid figures approaching them from the edge of the maze.
[17:17] * Amonet holds her lance towards them in a warding gesture, while trying to get a better look. And detects evil from that direction, to complete the picture.
[17:19] <Ebiris> The creatures are hideous crone-like women with black feathered wings and scaly legs that end in thick talons. Amonet can't detect any evil from them, but they haven't got within sixty feet when all three begin to sing a haunting wordless melody, at odds with their terrible appearances...
[17:19] <Ebiris> OOC: 3 will saves each
[17:19] <Gourash> roll 1d20+4
[17:19] * Hatbot --> "Gourash rolls 1d20+4  and gets 15." [1d20=11]
[17:19] <Gourash> roll 1d20+4
[17:19] * Hatbot --> "Gourash rolls 1d20+4  and gets 9." [1d20=5]
[17:19] <Gourash> roll 1d20+4
[17:19] * Hatbot --> "Gourash rolls 1d20+4  and gets 20." [1d20=16]
[17:19] <Amonet> roll 3#1d20+21
[17:19] * Hatbot --> "Amonet rolls 3#1d20+21 and gets 92." [3#1d20+21 = 24, 38, 30]
[17:20] <Ebiris> While Amonet is unaffected, Gourash feels compelled to walk straight towards the winged women, despite the fact that said path will result in him tumbling off the wall in a moment!
[17:21] * Amonet grabs hold of Gourash, smacking him upside the head. "They must be bad flying people!" she tells him sternly.
[17:21] <Ebiris> OOC: make a grapple check on G to try and stop him
[17:22] <Amonet> roll 1d20+12
[17:22] * Hatbot --> "Amonet rolls 1d20+12 and gets 16." [1d20=4]
[17:22] <Ebiris> OOC: G, resist?
[17:23] <Gourash> roll 1d20+18 o_O?  Do I have to?
[17:23] * Hatbot --> "Gourash rolls 1d20+18 o_O? Do I have to? and gets 34." [1d20=16]
[17:23] <Gourash> OOC: oh wait no, it's only +17
[17:23] <Ebiris> OOC: You're captivated and want to walk to the harpy, so you won't let people stop you. However, you get a fresh save before you fall off the edge.
[17:24] <Ebiris> Gourash shrugs Amonet off as he continues ambling forwards, some dim part of his mind registering the imminent danger as he nears the edge...
[17:24] <Ebiris> OOC: will save
[17:24] <Gourash> roll 1d20+4 will save plz.
[17:24] * Hatbot --> "Gourash rolls 1d20+4 will save plz. and gets 22." [1d20=18]
[17:25] <Ebiris> Gourash shrugs off the effect before disaster strikes, tottering over the edge as the three harpies hover in the distance, their beautiful singing now having no effect on the two heroes!
[17:25] <Amonet> "Do you want to go and punish them, now?"
[17:26] * Gourash eyes if they can be easily reached.
[17:26] <Ebiris> They're flying in the air about two hundred feet away and fifty up.
[17:27] * Amonet takes out her bow since the harpies do not oblige and shoots at the middlemost.
[17:27] <Ebiris> OOC: lets do init, here
[17:27] <Ebiris> roll 3#1d20+2
[17:27] <Amonet> roll 1d20+1
[17:27] * Hatbot --> "Ebiris rolls 3#1d20+2 and gets 24." [3#1d20+2 = 3, 15, 6]
[17:27] * Hatbot --> "Amonet rolls 1d20+1 and gets 7." [1d20=6]
[17:27] * Gourash shakes his head, but sees her firing anyway.
[17:27] <Gourash> roll 1d20+1 range, what range
[17:27] * Hatbot --> "Gourash rolls 1d20+1 range, what range and gets 15." [1d20=14]
[17:28] <Ebiris> Seeing Amonet draw her weapon, the first harpy begins to fly closer, drawing a bow of her own and firing at her!
[17:28] <Ebiris> roll 1d20+7
[17:28] * Hatbot --> "Ebiris rolls 1d20+7 and gets 15." [1d20=8]
[17:29] <Ebiris> But the arrow lands somewhere in the maze, missing.
[17:29] <Ebiris> OOC: Go G and A if G is holding
[17:29] <Amonet> roll 1d20+6
[17:29] * Hatbot --> "Amonet rolls 1d20+6 and gets 9." [1d20=3]
[17:29] <Amonet> roll 1d20+1
[17:29] * Hatbot --> "Amonet rolls 1d20+1 and gets 11." [1d20=10]
[17:29] * Amonet shoots at the harpies!
[17:30] <Ebiris> Amonets reply is likewise fruitless as the other two harpies swoop in with their own bows drawn, firing both at Amonet!
[17:30] <Ebiris> roll 2#1d20+7
[17:30] * Hatbot --> "Ebiris rolls 2#1d20+7 and gets 30." [2#1d20+7 = 21, 9]
[17:31] <Ebiris> The first merely plinks off her armour, while the other is lost in the maze below. The first harpy continues flying forward, now merely eighty feet away and well within optimal firing range as she shoots again at the paladin!
[17:31] <Ebiris> roll 1d20+9
[17:31] * Hatbot --> "Ebiris rolls 1d20+9 and gets 25." [1d20=16]
[17:31] <Ebiris> OOC: AC?
[17:31] <Amonet> OOC: 26
[17:31] <Ebiris> This one is caught in her armour as well, failing to harm the paladin!
[17:32] * Gourash crouches low, trying to avoid becoming a pincushion.
[17:32] * Amonet continues returning fire at the closest enemy!
[17:33] <Amonet> roll 1d20+6
[17:33] * Hatbot --> "Amonet rolls 1d20+6 and gets 24." [1d20=18]
[17:33] <Amonet> roll 1d20+1
[17:33] * Hatbot --> "Amonet rolls 1d20+1 and gets 14." [1d20=13]
[17:33] <Ebiris> OOC: 2 hits
[17:34] <Amonet> roll 1d8+6+1d6
[17:34] * Hatbot --> "Amonet rolls 1d8+6+1d6 and gets 17." [1d8=6][1d6=5]
[17:34] <Amonet> roll 1d8+6+1d6
[17:34] * Hatbot --> "Amonet rolls 1d8+6+1d6 and gets 10." [1d8=3][1d6=1]
[17:35] <Ebiris> The harpy lets out a pained squawk as both burning arrows impact her, wounding her severely as her plumage catches fire! The other two screech in alarm at this and rapidly fly away, with the injured one quickly following as they flap off to the edge of the maze.
[17:35] * Amonet follows the burnt harpy with another volley!
[17:36] <Amonet> roll 1d20+6
[17:36] * Hatbot --> "Amonet rolls 1d20+6 and gets 24." [1d20=18]
[17:36] <Amonet> roll 1d20+1
[17:36] * Hatbot --> "Amonet rolls 1d20+1 and gets 8." [1d20=7]
[17:36] <Amonet> roll 1d8+6+1d6
[17:36] * Hatbot --> "Amonet rolls 1d8+6+1d6 and gets 13." [1d8=5][1d6=2]
[17:36] <Ebiris> OOC: 1 hit, even though that'd be another -4 or so since she's 400 feet away
[17:36] <Amonet> OOC: Nice speed, okay
[17:37] <Ebiris> Amonet has the satisfaction of seeing her target erupt in flames and plummet down into the maze below like a rock.
[17:37] <Ebiris> A burning rock.
[17:37] <Amonet> "A bow has become available, Gourash," she announces.
[17:38] * Gourash nods, carrying on, taking the the ever so slight detour towards where she fell.
[17:38] * Amonet follows, bow in hand, lance within easy reach.
[17:39] <Ebiris> roll 1d100
[17:39] * Hatbot --> "Ebiris rolls 1d100 and gets 57." [1d100=57]
[17:40] <Ebiris> As you make your way towards where the harpy fell, you see some sort of large mechanical drill like contraption chugging away through the maze below. It fills up the path from wall to wall, and moves at a good clip. Luckily you're up above, since that thing could probably do some damage if it ran into you on the ground.
[17:40] * Gourash makes a mental note to stay well out of its way.
[17:42] * Gourash continues onward~
[17:43] <Ebiris> Bypassing the odd contraption, Gourash and Amonet soon find the downed harpy, a shortbow fallen by her charred corpse and a quiver of arrows strapped around her hips.
[17:44] * Amonet nods at justice having been served.
[17:46] * Gourash grabs the shortbow and the quiver, adding it to his equipment.  "Nice shot,"
[17:50] * Gourash continues, knowing, or believing anyway, that the edge of the labryinth is not far off...and then they merely have to climb the tower.
[17:50] <Ebiris> roll 1d100
[17:50] * Hatbot --> "Ebiris rolls 1d100 and gets 56." [1d100=56]
[17:53] <Ebiris> With a bit more climbing to get their bearings, Amonet and Gourash eventually reach the exit of the labyrinth! It's probably been about two to three hours since they arrived here, but they finally escaped the labyrinth! In the distance they can see the vast castle towering overhead, but before that, a large mist-shrouded forest spreads out before them, surrounding the maze.
[17:53] <Ebiris> At least the trees here are alive, unlike the last forest they visited.
[17:54] <Gourash> "All it needs is bad bard," Gourash commented, heading into the forest.
[17:55] * Amonet tries to leaves markings here as well, generally using them for the secondary purpose of staying on the same direction.
[17:59] <Ebiris> Amonet and Gourash march into the woods, which at least seem lively enough compared to the Moonwood, occassional rustlings and animal noises heralding that they are not alone. They do take on a more sinister bent after half an hour or so, however, when the duo can detect faint darkened figures seen rushing about on their peripheral vision, darting from tree to tree in the mist, always just out of sight...
[18:00] * Amonet sees no other alternative but to continue and accept the possibility of ambush.
[18:00] * Gourash has his axe at the ready, walking on, eying amonet but saying nothing at seeing she's also ready for the inevitable ambush.
[18:02] * Amonet opts to go for her lance, naturally.
[18:05] <Ebiris> The mist thickens as you walk along, blotting out vision for more than a few dozen feet, before Amonet finds herself nearly tripping over a figure who suddenly appears to bar her path!
[18:05] <Ebiris> A man stands before her, tall and lanky, wearing black full plate with a tarnished thistle emblem on it, and a tinpot helmet over his head, and flanked by four shorter figures in similar armour but wearing horned helmets, spread in a loose semicircle around the group.
[18:06] <Gourash> "Gourash not quite up to being gentle.  We on time limit," He gestured with his axe.  "Move or be cut."
[18:06] <Amonet> "Are you bandits?" Amonet asks pleasantly, lance glowing.
[18:08] <Ebiris> "We..." the apparent leader begins, looking down his nose at you before glancing around at his fellows, "Are the Knights who say Ni!"
[18:08] <Ebiris> OOC: will save, G, it's a fear effect so +4
[18:08] <Amonet> "More bad people," Amonet decides, the lance ready to smite them!
[18:10] <Gourash> roll 1d20+4
[18:10] * Hatbot --> "Gourash rolls 1d20+4 and gets 5." [1d20=1]
[18:11] -> *Gourash* That word! It strikes a dark thrill of terror in your soul, eliciting some primal fear response from a forgotten part of your mind.
[18:12] <Gourash> "N-not the knights who say...Ni!" Points in surprised shock, quivering in his boots.
[18:12] <Amonet> roll 1d20+1
[18:12] * Hatbot --> "Amonet rolls 1d20+1 and gets 11." [1d20=10]
[18:13] <Ebiris> roll 5#1d20+1
[18:13] * Hatbot --> "Ebiris rolls 5#1d20+1 and gets 37." [5#1d20+1 = 5, 13, 10, 6, 3]
[18:13] <Gourash> roll 1d20+1 init rolls already?
[18:13] * Hatbot --> "Gourash rolls 1d20+1 init rolls already? and gets 6." [1d20=5]
[18:14] <Amonet> "You must let me and my friend pass, now," Amonet insists sternly, her lance's side smacking the apparent leader in the side.
[18:14] <Ebiris> "The same!" the leader leers at Gourash, before Amonet suddenly attacks him.
[18:14] <Ebiris> OOC: he was holding anyway, make your attack
[18:15] <Amonet> roll 1d20+8
[18:15] * Hatbot --> "Amonet rolls 1d20+8 and gets 28." [1d20=20]
[18:15] <Amonet> roll 1d20+8
[18:15] * Hatbot --> "Amonet rolls 1d20+8 and gets 14." [1d20=6]
[18:15] <Amonet> roll 1d20+3
[18:15] * Hatbot --> "Amonet rolls 1d20+3 and gets 14." [1d20=11]
[18:15] <Ebiris> OOC: 1 regular hit
* Retrieving #dunes modes...
[18:16] <Amonet> roll 1d8+8 nonlethal
[18:16] * Hatbot --> "Amonet rolls 1d8+8 nonlethal and gets 11." [1d8=3]
[18:16] <Ebiris> "Owww!" the leader whines as Amonet smacks him. "Stop that! Or we shall say Ni at you, again!"
[18:16] <Ebiris> OOC: another will save, G. Remember, +4 bonus from Amonet's aura
[18:17] <Amonet> "You can say it as much as you wish from the other end of the forest," she responds.
[18:19] <Gourash> roll 1d20+4+4-2
[18:19] * Hatbot --> "Gourash rolls 1d20+4+4-2 and gets 18." [1d20=12]
[18:19] * Gourash growls.  "St-stop that wretched sound!"
[18:19] -> *Gourash* The word still strikes terror in you, but you are able to hold yourself together.
[18:21] <Ebiris> "The Knights of Ni demand tribute!" one of the other knights declares.
[18:21] <Ebiris> OOC: another will save
[18:23] <Gourash> roll 1d20+4+4-2
[18:23] * Hatbot --> "Gourash rolls 1d20+4+4-2 and gets 14." [1d20=8]
[18:25] -> *Gourash* It's no good! The word, it's too terrifying, you cannot bear to listen, you have to flee from the dreadful word!
[18:25] <Ebiris> roll 1d10
[18:25] * Hatbot --> "Ebiris rolls 1d10 and gets 2." [1d10=2]
[18:25] <Ebiris> roll 1d10
[18:25] * Hatbot --> "Ebiris rolls 1d10 and gets 2." [1d10=2]
[18:26] <Gourash> "N-No!" He turns and flees suddenly, running back down the path.
[18:26] <Amonet> "What did you do to him?!" Amonet asks, showing real anger now. "Stop that at once!"
[18:27] <Ebiris> "Hey, he's running away!" one of the knights chitters. "But what about our tribute?" another asks. "It's your fault for saying Ni all the time! You can have too much of a good thing, you know!"
[18:27] <Ebiris> OOC: Amonet, your go, they're holding/bickering
[18:27] * Amonet slams her lance against the top of the leader's head, punctuating each strike with a loud, "Go away!"
[18:27] <Amonet> roll 1d20+8
[18:27] * Hatbot --> "Amonet rolls 1d20+8 and gets 21." [1d20=13]
[18:27] <Amonet> roll 1d20+3
[18:27] * Hatbot --> "Amonet rolls 1d20+3 and gets 16." [1d20=13]
[18:28] <Ebiris> OOC: 1 hit
[18:28] <Amonet> roll 1d8+8
[18:28] * Hatbot --> "Amonet rolls 1d8+8 and gets 11." [1d8=3]
[18:28] <Ebiris> "Owww! Stop that!" the leader complains bitterly, drawing his own sword and slamming the flat of it against Amonet!
[18:28] <Ebiris> roll 1d20+7
[18:28] * Hatbot --> "Ebiris rolls 1d20+7 and gets 17." [1d20=10]
[18:28] <Ebiris> roll 1d20+2
[18:28] * Hatbot --> "Ebiris rolls 1d20+2 and gets 18." [1d20=16]
[18:29] <Ebiris> But her armour wards off the nonlethal blows while the other knights watch in fascination, not interfering in the ensuing melee.
[18:29] <Ebiris> OOC: Go Gourash, you're only shaken now and can come back
[18:29] <Amonet> "You stop that! You started it by scaring off the manly spirit of a poor half-orc!"
[18:30] <Ebiris> "It's not our fault he's a big baby! Most people only cower a bit, not running off like that!" he argues back.
[18:31] <Amonet> "Well, now you must make amends! Do that by going away!"
[18:31] * Gourash considers, trying to go around where they were through the woods, seekking to evade the horrible WORD>
[18:32] <Ebiris> Gourash wanders around to the side, hearing the knights and Amonet bickering even if he can't see them through the thick mist...
[18:32] <Ebiris> OOC: Amonet, your turn again
[18:33] <Amonet> The head seems any good a target as any!
[18:33] <Amonet> roll 1d20+8
[18:33] * Hatbot --> "Amonet rolls 1d20+8 and gets 20." [1d20=12]
[18:33] <Amonet> roll 1d20+3
[18:33] * Hatbot --> "Amonet rolls 1d20+3 and gets 6." [1d20=3]
[18:33] <Ebiris> OOC: 1 hit
[18:33] <Amonet> roll 1d8+8 take a nap
[18:33] * Hatbot --> "Amonet rolls 1d8+8 take a nap and gets 15." [1d8=7]
[18:35] <Ebiris> It's one hit, but it's a skull rattler, the knight wobbling precariously for a moment from the force of Amonet's attack before he seems to regather his wits. "We rule this forest, you can't tell us what to do!" he snaps, stepping forward to whack Amonet in return.
[18:35] <Ebiris> roll 1d20+7
[18:35] * Hatbot --> "Ebiris rolls 1d20+7 and gets 25." [1d20=18]
[18:35] <Ebiris> roll 1d20+2
[18:35] * Hatbot --> "Ebiris rolls 1d20+2 and gets 8." [1d20=6]
[18:36] <Ebiris> Luckily Amonet is able to parry aside the first strike while the second glances off her armour.
[18:36] <Ebiris> OOC: Go Gourash, other knights continue holding
[18:36] * Amonet sighs, slumping slightly. "Horus-Re, is this a trial? Of my unwavering faith, or my determination... or my restraint against using lethal force against unworthy foes?"
[18:36] <Amonet> roll 1d20+8
[18:36] * Hatbot --> "Amonet rolls 1d20+8 and gets 10." [1d20=2]
[18:36] <Amonet> roll 1d20+3
[18:36] * Hatbot --> "Amonet rolls 1d20+3 and gets 10." [1d20=7]
[18:37] <Ebiris> OOC: hey, it's Gourash's turn, but we'll use those rolls for your attack unless he does something that makes you change tactics
[18:37] <Amonet> OOC: Sure thing
[18:38] * Gourash continues around trying to come around behind them, covering his ears as he gets closer.
[18:38] <Ebiris> Gourash moves around behind the knights, still hearing the clang of metal on metal and Amonet and the Knight's voices. At least they aren't using that word...
[18:39] <Ebiris> As he shrugs off both of Amonet's attacks, the lead knight presses her, hitting some more with the flat of his own blade!
[18:39] <Ebiris> roll 1d20+7
[18:39] * Hatbot --> "Ebiris rolls 1d20+7 and gets 12." [1d20=5]
[18:39] <Ebiris> roll 1d20+2
[18:39] * Hatbot --> "Ebiris rolls 1d20+2 and gets 11." [1d20=9]
[18:39] <Ebiris> Alas, the stalemate continues!
[18:39] <Ebiris> OOC: Gourash
[18:40] * Gourash sneaks up behind the knights, as sneakily as his heavy frame allows.
[18:40] <Ebiris> OOC: move silently/hide checks
[18:40] <Gourash> roll 1d20+1
[18:40] * Hatbot --> "Gourash rolls 1d20+1 and gets 5." [1d20=4]
[18:40] <Gourash> roll 1d20+1
[18:41] * Hatbot --> "Gourash rolls 1d20+1 and gets 11." [1d20=10]
[18:41] <Ebiris> Gourash thinks he's getting closer without detection, just barely seeing the four knights in the mist between him and Amonet and the leader.
[18:41] <Ebiris> OOC: Go Amonet
[18:42] * Amonet smacks him in the gut, following it up with an upwards strike to catch the so-called knight's chin.
[18:42] <Amonet> roll 1d20+8
[18:42] * Hatbot --> "Amonet rolls 1d20+8 and gets 22." [1d20=14]
[18:42] <Amonet> roll 1d20+3
[18:42] * Hatbot --> "Amonet rolls 1d20+3 and gets 11." [1d20=8]
[18:42] <Ebiris> OOC: 1 hit
[18:42] <Amonet> roll 1d8+8
[18:42] * Hatbot --> "Amonet rolls 1d8+8 and gets 13." [1d8=5]
[18:43] <Ebiris> With a final attack, the knight doubles over as Amonet smacks his gut, exhaling sharply and falling over in a heap by her feet. "Oooooh," the other knights all gasp appreciatively.
[18:43] <Ebiris> OOC: Go Gourash
[18:44] <Amonet> "Can we go now?" Amonet asks, feeling particularly drained after this match.
[18:44] <Amonet> "There are some harpies further that way you could ask for tribute."
[18:45] * Gourash rushes them from behind, slashing violently to ensure they don't get time to Ni!
[18:45] <Ebiris> OOC: Go ahead and attack
[18:45] <Gourash> OOC: Rage/charge/silly
[18:46] <Gourash> roll 1d20+2+3-1-2-3  Lots of mods @_@  Biggest one still standing.
[18:46] * Hatbot --> "Gourash rolls 1d20+2+3-1-2-3 Lots of mods @_@ Biggest one still standing. and gets 6." [1d20=7]
[18:46] <Gourash> +18
[18:46] <Gourash> OOC: Sorry, forgot the important one!
[18:46] <Ebiris> OOC: Quite, THat makes it a hit.
[18:47] <Gourash> roll 1d12+13+6+3
[18:47] * Hatbot --> "Gourash rolls 1d12+13+6+3 and gets 27." [1d12=5]
[18:48] <Ebiris> One of the knights nods after some deliberation, speaking with self important dignity. "Well, we'll call it a - Torm's Testicles!" he yells in alarm as Gourash suddenly barrels into the one next to him, hacking halfway through his spine, armour no impediment to the barbarian's axe! The wounded knight barely stays up, however, as all four swiftly draw their swords and turn to the new threat.
[18:49] * Amonet blinks at this change of affairs. "Gourash, friend... I think they were just leaving."
[18:50] <Ebiris> The Knights emit warcries thankfully free of dread words as they descend on Gourash en masse, two getting to flank him!
[18:50] <Ebiris> roll 1d20+11
[18:50] * Hatbot --> "Ebiris rolls 1d20+11 and gets 23." [1d20=12]
[18:50] <Ebiris> roll 1d20+11
[18:50] * Hatbot --> "Ebiris rolls 1d20+11 and gets 28." [1d20=17]
[18:50] <Ebiris> roll 1d20+13
[18:50] * Hatbot --> "Ebiris rolls 1d20+13 and gets 17." [1d20=4]
[18:50] <Ebiris> roll 1d20+13
[18:50] * Hatbot --> "Ebiris rolls 1d20+13 and gets 22." [1d20=9]
[18:50] <Ebiris> OOC: AC?
[18:51] <Gourash> OOC: Uh, mmm low.  I think all but the 17 hit.
[18:51] <Ebiris> roll 6d6+27-6
[18:51] * Hatbot --> "Ebiris rolls 6d6+27-6 and gets 45." [6d6=3, 4, 4, 1, 6, 6]
[18:52] <Ebiris> Gourash finds himself stabbed and slashed most brutally, inflicting vicious wounds all over his body as the knights engage him in fierce combat!
[18:52] <Ebiris> OOC: Go Amonet
[18:53] <Amonet> "Hello? Our truce? Harrassing harpies all the way over there?" She points in the direction of the distance maze with her lance. "Oh, Horus-Re, why do you give me these trials? Have I not proved myself to you? Need I sully my blade with their blood?"
[18:54] <Ebiris> Horus Re sadly does not smite them to take the problem out of Amonet's hands, nor do they seem inclined to stop fighting Gourash.
[18:55] * Amonet approaches the one wounded, getting into position, and smacks him with the side of her lance.
[18:55] <Amonet> roll 1d20+10
[18:55] * Hatbot --> "Amonet rolls 1d20+10 and gets 23." [1d20=13]
[18:55] <Amonet> roll 1d8+8 nonlethal
[18:55] * Hatbot --> "Amonet rolls 1d8+8 nonlethal and gets 10." [1d8=2]
[18:55] <Ebiris> The wounded one gasps in pain from the hit, but still stays up!
[18:55] <Ebiris> OOC: Go G
[18:56] <Amonet> "I do not wish for any of you to die needlessly," Amonet announces to the knights. "It is not too late to stop this."
[18:56] * Gourash is unstoppable in his rage, striking violently at the same one again before twisting at another.
[18:57] <Gourash> roll 1d20+18-1+2-4
[18:57] * Hatbot --> "Gourash rolls 1d20+18-1+2-4 and gets 25." [1d20=10]
[18:57] <Ebiris> OOC: hit
[18:58] <Gourash> roll 1d12+13+3+8
[18:58] * Hatbot --> "Gourash rolls 1d12+13+3+8 and gets 36." [1d12=12]
[18:58] <Gourash> OOC: Cleave
[18:58] <Ebiris> OOC: cleave
[18:58] <Ebiris> "Tell him that!" one of the knights gasps as Gourash tears apart the stricken knight, before gasping "Oh Helm's hairy balls!" as the same axe lunges in towards him.
[18:58] <Gourash> roll 1d20+18-1+2-4
[18:58] * Hatbot --> "Gourash rolls 1d20+18-1+2-4 and gets 29." [1d20=14]
[18:58] <Ebiris> OOC: hit
[18:58] <Gourash> roll 1d12+13+3+8
[18:58] * Hatbot --> "Gourash rolls 1d12+13+3+8 and gets 35." [1d12=11]
[18:58] <Amonet> "Gourash, stop! They are surrendering! (sort of)"
[18:58] <Ebiris> OOC: he's still up, so take your final attack?
[18:58] <Gourash> roll 1d20+13-1+2-4
[18:58] * Hatbot --> "Gourash rolls 1d20+13-1+2-4 and gets 29." [1d20=19]
[18:59] * Gourash growls, not listening to reason!
[18:59] <Gourash> roll 1d12+13+3+8
[18:59] * Hatbot --> "Gourash rolls 1d12+13+3+8 and gets 32." [1d12=8]
[19:00] <Ebiris> Said knight is promptly eviscerated by Gourash's axe, prompting the other two to drop their swords and run, fleeing madly into the woods and away, gibbering in terror!
[19:00] * Amonet holds her lance warily to cover their escape, should it prove necessary.
[19:00] <Ebiris> OOC: Combat is over unless you want to pursue. They're slowed by full plate so Go could charge one.
[19:00] <Gourash> AoO!
[19:00] <Ebiris> OOC: withdraw
[19:01] <Gourash> OOC: Aww
