(OOC: I was assuming there was area around the grate to stand so that it could be opened without standing on top of it. Trying to open a lid that you're standing on is really, really hard, afterall.)

I have my suspicions this place was not built for convenience.

Presuming her problems with the course of action are not, in fact, problems, Sacchin has, herself, no problem in going down to open the grate to a watery grave.
