Dracos

2/21/2009 6:19:22 PM <Admiral_Dracos>   At the end of the last session, our grand pirates, being both relatively  broke and lacking in firepower, decided to try their hand at cartography.  This brief detour from the realm of pitched battles ended up being fairly valuable as they discovered a relatively unknown island visibly unsuitable for human habitation.  Being both brave and hardy, they found a way in and carved out a slight niche for themselves among th
2/21/2009 6:19:22 PM <Admiral_Dracos>   e wildlife, returning to report its clear inhospitality to the trusting cartographer.
2/21/2009 6:20:32 PM <Admiral_Dracos>   Moving on in their search for work, wealth, and some way to get a better ship, they were left to more meger tasks, taking on a delivery job for a mere pittance to the grand city of Nasar, known to be one of the more powerful trade hubs in this part of the world and the closest free city to the border of Valua.
2/21/2009 6:21:45 PM <Admiral_Dracos>   We come now to our heroes, making any last minute arrangements before they head off to Nasar...
2/21/2009 6:29:33 PM <Admiral_Dracos>   Making their way upon the boat, Kythaine took the steering position, looking most captainly with Glubtz nearby, letting him know in no uncertain terms, that if only he was at the wheel, they would already be there.  Elladan meanwhile was slumbering below deck, claiming to need a deep nap while Marcus was up toward the middle of the deck keeping a look out.  Launching off, it seemed like it would be a quiet voyage, the
2/21/2009 6:29:33 PM <Admiral_Dracos>   small ship watching as many far larger ones swooshed past them, leaving them wavering in their air wake without a care.  This only got more pronounced as they entered Nasurran air space, guard ships sailing about protecting the city alongside the very high cliffs that surrounded it, mercenary ships sailing along side huge merchant vessels.  It was enough to feel somewhat like a dwarf.  But none the less, they soon came
2/21/2009 6:29:33 PM <Admiral_Dracos>    to see the shining jewel of Nasar, a lovely arabic city with a bazaar that stretched the whole length of it's quite large docks and several miles into the city proper as well.
2/21/2009 6:30:04 PM <Admiral_Dracos>   A guard ship soon hailed them as they sailed up along, a large fellow demanding to know their business in the city.
2/21/2009 6:37:10 PM <Kythaine>   "We're delivering a letter," Kythaine calls back.
2/21/2009 6:38:45 PM <Admiral_Dracos>   "Anything to declare?  Exotic animals, spices, drugs, weaponry?"  He rambled off a list, not paying too much attention to them.
2/21/2009 6:39:50 PM <Marcus>   "Hey Glubtz, you think your pet counts as 'exotic'?" Marcus calls out to the gnome.
2/21/2009 6:46:15 PM <Glubtz>   "Menchi isn't exotic, he's perfectly normal.
2/21/2009 6:47:24 PM *   Glubtz cooes, "Aren't you my mean spirited shoulder pet."
2/21/2009 6:47:41 PM <Admiral_Dracos>   The guard tapped his clipboard, waiting for them to come to consensus.
2/21/2009 6:48:50 PM *   Marcus shrugs. "Well, he's the one that spends all his time with his pet, so he'd know best, I'm sure. So I'll say nothing exotic, officer," Marcus replies with a straight face.
2/21/2009 6:50:00 PM <Admiral_Dracos>   "Alright...  Remember, stealing is prohibited inside of Nasur," He waved them on toward the docks.
2/21/2009 6:50:48 PM *   Kythaine thanks the guard and steers towards the docks.
2/21/2009 6:51:45 PM <Marcus>   "Well, that went rather smoothly," Marcus comments cheerfully once they're out of hearing range from the guard.
2/21/2009 6:53:14 PM <Admiral_Dracos>   It's a pretty easy docking as they're soon moored next to one of the docks by dozens of other small ships.
2/21/2009 6:55:02 PM <Kythaine>   "So where in town are we supposed to deliver this letter?" Kythaine asks, while scanning the docks.
2/21/2009 6:57:42 PM *   Marcus shrugs. "We'll just have to ask around once."
2/21/2009 7:01:24 PM *   Kythaine ties the boat off and hops onto the dock. He looks around for taverns that might be the Rising Sun.
2/21/2009 7:02:01 PM <Admiral_Dracos>   Kythaine does not spot it, though the bazaar has many travelers, merchants and buyers.  If he can get through the crowd, he probably can ask one of the locals where it is.  The guards might know as well.
2/21/2009 7:05:07 PM *   Marcus randomly stops the first person he comes across and asks about the tavern. "Excuse me, would you know where the Rising Sun is located?" he asks.
2/21/2009 7:05:52 PM <Admiral_Dracos>   "Indeed, if you head into the outer district, you'll find it over there," He pointed to an entrance into town. "Look on your left."
2/21/2009 7:06:19 PM <Kythaine>   "Usually that's in the east," Kythaine whispers.
2/21/2009 7:07:12 PM *   Marcus smacks Kythaine in the head and thanks their helper. "C'mon, let's go before Glubtz decides he's bored and wants to take his pet for another walk."
2/21/2009 7:08:43 PM *   Kythaine rubs his head and glares at Marcus, then thanks the person that game the directions.
2/21/2009 7:09:59 PM *   Kythaine heads towards the outer district.
2/21/2009 7:11:05 PM <Admiral_Dracos>   Heading out there, they pass through the bazaar, countless merchants trying to catch their eye and their coin...  But soon enough they find their way spotting a rather large and respectable looking tavern, a sign out front indicating it as the Rising Sun.
2/21/2009 7:13:14 PM *   Kythaine continues into the tavern.
2/21/2009 7:14:41 PM <Admiral_Dracos>   Heading in, it seems rather quiet at this time of day.  A few sailors chatting near the bar.  A few others...one with a rather familiar red plumed hat sitting in the back, a young waitress serving them drinks attentively.  A smiling older woman was standing behind the front desk.  "Hello, looking for a room travelers?"
2/21/2009 7:16:25 PM *   Marcus rolls 1d20+2
2/21/2009 7:16:25 PM <freya>   Marcus rolls {1d20}[9] = 11
2/21/2009 7:18:24 PM *   Kythaine rolls 1d20+1
2/21/2009 7:18:25 PM <freya>   Kythaine rolls {1d20}[12] = 13

2/21/2009 7:22:23 PM <Admiral_Dracos>   Something tickles their minds...the waitresses are being really attentive of...is that...  That hat is the trademark had of Darcyan, the 5th ranked pirate captain and an old friend of Captain Dyne.  Every so often their crews would raid together when going after targets too big for either to go after alone.
2/21/2009 7:36:35 PM *   Marcus frowns, wondering if the man he's spotted has heard the news about their old crew. Still, first things first. "No, ma'am, not at this time anyway. We have a delivery for the owner of this place," he replies after a few seconds of starting towards Darcyan.
2/21/2009 7:37:10 PM <Admiral_Dracos>   "Well, certainly...that would be me dear,"  She held out her hand.
2/21/2009 7:39:50 PM *   Marcus looks over to Kythaine, who should be carrying the letter.
2/21/2009 7:41:29 PM *   Kythaine pulls the letter out. "Here it is."
2/21/2009 7:42:26 PM <Admiral_Dracos>   "Ah, thank you very much,"  She smiled.  "Here,"  She offered a bit of silver. "A tip."
2/21/2009 7:44:02 PM *   Kythaine takes the coin. "You are most welcome."
2/21/2009 7:45:44 PM <Admiral_Dracos>   "If you're looking for a place to stay while you're in Nasur, feel free to stay here.  We do have excellent rooms," She smiled.
2/21/2009 7:50:39 PM <Marcus>   "Hrm...maybe. We're not certain how long we'll be staying, but we'll certainly keep your establishment in mind," Marcus says in return, as he looks towards Darcyan again. "You'll have to excuse me now, but I spotted someone earlier that I used to know somewhat, and I'd like to introduce myself."
2/21/2009 7:54:23 PM <Admiral_Dracos>   The Captain wasn't paying much of any attention to them, joking around with several older mates as they enjoyed their food and drink.
2/21/2009 7:56:44 PM <Kythaine>   "Let
2/21/2009 7:57:08 PM <Kythaine>   "Let's get something to eat and drink first."
2/21/2009 7:58:58 PM <Admiral_Dracos>   There were plenty of open tables for them to sit at.
2/21/2009 8:00:47 PM *   Kythaine looks at Marcus and Glubtz. "Would this table work?"
2/21/2009 8:03:53 PM *   Marcus shrugs. "I suppose so," Marcus says. He -was- a bit hungry. "Doesn't look like he's going anywhere any time soon, I suppose, and we can always call him to us with an offer of some drink."
2/21/2009 8:04:18 PM *   Kythaine nods and sits down. He signals the waitress. "Dinner and drinks for all of us."
2/21/2009 8:06:19 PM <Admiral_Dracos>   The waitresses seemed quite busy, but one did come along soon after they sat down to take there orders, smiling at them a bit tensely.  "What can I get for you three?"
2/21/2009 8:06:44 PM <Kythaine>   "Dinner and drinks.  What are the choices?"
2/21/2009 8:06:45 PM <Marcus>   "What do you recommend?" is the simple reply.
2/21/2009 8:11:08 PM <Admiral_Dracos>   "Well, how about the house special.  It's a spicy lamb dish, served ..."  The details drifted away, though soon they found their wallets several silver lighter, a full spread of food and drinks before them
2/21/2009 8:12:22 PM *   Kythaine grins. "A nice change from the rations on the ship."
2/21/2009 8:13:34 PM <Admiral_Dracos>   Indeed, it was quite the step up, as spicy as it was.
2/21/2009 8:14:13 PM <Marcus>   "No kidding. If it wasn't for the whining we'd hear, I'd have been half-way tempted to cook Glubtz's pet just for a chance at fresh meat, y'know?" Marcus says jokingly as he enjoys the meal, wheezing occassionally and chugging some of his drink to down the spicy taste.
2/21/2009 8:15:25 PM *   Kythaine chuckles and downs some of his own drink.
2/21/2009 8:15:47 PM <Admiral_Dracos>   It was quite relaxing as the evening approached...the inn getting more filled as time went on.
2/21/2009 8:17:32 PM <Kythaine>   "So how do we ask Darcyan for help without sounding like beggars?"
2/21/2009 8:22:07 PM *   Kythaine orders a bowl of fruit and starts practicing juggling.
2/21/2009 8:22:23 PM *   Marcus shrugs. "Not much we -can- do. All we can probably do is straight out ask if he's heard what happened to our crew and see if he knows anything or can pass along word to us whenever he hears anything, I'll bet you anything. As good a friend as he might be, doubt he can stick out his own crew's neck to lend a hand. We're doing it cause we're desperate, they aren't."
2/21/2009 8:22:42 PM *   Kythaine rolls 1d20+11
2/21/2009 8:22:43 PM <freya>   Kythaine rolls {1d20}[13] = 24
2/21/2009 8:24:40 PM <Admiral_Dracos>   Well, Kythaine seems to be able to do quite the little show at his table, several patrons watching and applauding and indeed even catching the eyes of Captain Darcyan.   A small pile of silver gathered up by his table, though a waitress comes over and indicates though that the innkeeper wants to talk with him soon.
2/21/2009 8:26:48 PM *   Kythaine scoops up the silver and hands it to the waitress. "A tip," he explains, then goes to see the innkeeper.
2/21/2009 8:29:11 PM *   Marcus shakes his head. "You're a weirdo, Kyth," is all Marcus says about the impromptu show.
2/21/2009 8:31:51 PM *   Kythaine laughs. "Considering Glubtz and Elladan, I guess that means you're feeling left out."
2/21/2009 8:32:09 PM <Admiral_Dracos>   The innkeeper was smiling, but stern about arranging any performances with her prior to using the inn for such.  She let him return to his friends shortly after though.
2/21/2009 8:34:37 PM <Admiral_Dracos>   A few of the captains mates were laughing openly at the sight, enjoying their drink.
2/21/2009 8:36:47 PM *   Kythaine goes over to Darcyan's table. "Good evening. Captain Dyne speaks well of you."
2/21/2009 8:38:10 PM <Admiral_Dracos>   "Hmm?"  The man leaned forward.  He was a powerfully built, but lean man.  Long guns along the sides of his vest.  "A messanger for Captain Dyne?  I don't recognize you.  Must be one of his many offshoots."  He smiled jovially.
2/21/2009 8:40:04 PM *   Kythaine smiles back. "Kythaine, apprentice navigator. The tall one is Marcus and the short one is Glubtz."
2/21/2009 8:40:49 PM <Admiral_Dracos>   "Well, well... a group setting off on their own?  Don't recommend it much.  You've got a great Captain in Dyne.  Why don't you three pull up a seat.
2/21/2009 8:41:15 PM *   Kythaine motions the others over.
2/21/2009 8:43:12 PM <Kythaine>   "Setting off on our own wasn't my first idea, either.  But circumstances mean it was best for all of us to relocate.  We're out scouting, looking for opportunities and then we'll try to contact the others again."
2/21/2009 8:46:00 PM <Admiral_Dracos>   "Relocate...something happen with ol' Dyne?"  He wondered a bit.
2/21/2009 8:48:06 PM *   Kythaine smiles sheepishly. "It was a bit of an involuntary relocation, but we plan to fix that."
2/21/2009 8:49:09 PM <Admiral_Dracos>   The captain's brow raised more curiously at the dancing around the bush.
2/21/2009 8:55:09 PM <Kythaine>   "One day, the Valuans will regret the inconvenience they have caused."
2/21/2009 8:56:50 PM <Admiral_Dracos>   "Eh, lads...  if you're going to speak to Captain Darcyan, let's clear the air on what the heck you're talking about," one of his mates looked irritated, not following them.
2/21/2009 8:59:03 PM *   Kythaine pauses, considering, obviously surprised Glubtz or Marcus hasn't just blurted the whole thing out.
2/21/2009 9:01:30 PM <Kythaine>   Quietly, Kythaine fills Darcyan in on events.
2/21/2009 9:02:27 PM <Kythaine>   "...and so you see we're looking for opportunities until we can resolve the problem."
2/21/2009 9:03:20 PM <Admiral_Dracos>   The captain leaned back, taking it all in.  "That's...  That's pretty rough of things...  I was going to beat him one of these days...  but not like that.  Resolve...?  Lad, these are the valuans we be speaking of.  There's always a time to pull back and cut your losses."
2/21/2009 9:05:59 PM *   Kythaine grins. "Pity the Valuans for not taking your advice then."
2/21/2009 9:07:44 PM <Admiral_Dracos>   He shook his heads.  "You boys got a ship?"
2/21/2009 9:08:56 PM <Kythaine>   "Yes, but we could use a better one."
2/21/2009 9:09:22 PM <Admiral_Dracos>   "Stay the night...  Tomorrow, let's take a trip and show you boys what you're thinking of tangling with."
2/21/2009 9:10:13 PM <Marcus>   "We have a pretty good idea," Marcus mutters under his breath, remembering the mess at the village when they'd come back from their initial adventure.
2/21/2009 9:10:13 PM <Kythaine>   "Sounds good to me."
2/21/2009 9:11:53 PM *   Kythaine nods in agreement with Marcus. "We do understand it's going to take a while."
2/21/2009 9:13:55 PM <Admiral_Dracos>   "Alright then...You're room's on me..."  He tossed some gold down on the table, heading upstairs.
2/21/2009 9:13:58 PM <Admiral_Dracos>   ~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~
2/21/2009 9:14:22 PM <Admiral_Dracos>   "You can't be serious..."  They were standing in front of the yacht that the four had been piloting.
2/21/2009 9:14:38 PM <Admiral_Dracos>   "You're trying to call a life boat a ship?"
2/21/2009 9:15:34 PM <Kythaine>   "Shhh.  Glubtz might hear you insulting it."
2/21/2009 9:17:07 PM <Admiral_Dracos>   "Boys...  why don't you come along on my ship.  You won't even get close on that thing,"  He lead the way back to a ship at least fifty times it's size, battered down with more guns than they could count.
2/21/2009 9:19:25 PM <Admiral_Dracos>   "Come on board the Overkill,"  He waved them up, his crew preparing for launch.
2/21/2009 9:20:19 PM <Marcus>   "Hrm? Overkill? Why that name, captain, if I might ask?" Marcus asks, having never heard about the captain's boat and its name.
2/21/2009 9:21:48 PM <Admiral_Dracos>   Captain Darcyan smirked.  "There is no ship that would dare enter into a one on one cannon fight with her, lad.  She's no gentle girl,"  He gestured to the visible artillary.
2/21/2009 9:28:36 PM <Kythaine>   "I presume your targets run, then."
2/21/2009 9:31:06 PM <Admiral_Dracos>   "The smart ones do," He grinned, leading them aboard and setting off, letting them have the run of the deck as his large crew steered the ship over...The trip taking a few days in fact as they snuck over the nearby Valuan border, the skies darkening as the winds picked up dangerously.  Their small ship wouldn't even be able to stay intact here as they heavier one swayed with the constant storms in the area.
2/21/2009 9:37:34 PM <Admiral_Dracos>   The ship continued on hiding in the low cliffs as it went slowly.  "Johnathan, take these three up the mast and show them..."
2/21/2009 9:37:48 PM <Admiral_Dracos>   A younger lad waved to them, climbing rapidly up to the mast top.
2/21/2009 9:39:11 PM *   Kythaine follows.
2/21/2009 9:42:59 PM <Admiral_Dracos>   Kythaine is handed a looking glass....and through it he sees...the world's most effective prison.  A fortress nearly thirty miles long, with no less than a dozen warships sailing outside of it.  The front looking heavily armored with odd sort of hexagonal patterns running along it.
2/21/2009 9:44:21 PM *   Kythaine starts scanning for good ways to sneak into the fortress.
2/21/2009 9:47:01 PM <Admiral_Dracos>   To all apperances, it seemed inassailable.  At least from the air.  It'd take a legion to attack and hold it, for certain and the walls seemed fairly pristine, lacking obvious cracks.
2/21/2009 9:58:26 PM <Admiral_Dracos>   ~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~
Well, Goodbye.
