<El-Cideon> OOC: actions? Cor specified you guys were sitting near the back of the auditorium so Yomi would be close enough to scan Selene for DEMONS. This means you're on the other side of the room from the guy being attacked (~90 ft). The creature has no visible assistance at this time. Also, I believe Yomi wanted to roll a knowledge check to see if she recognizes this thing. K:A fits best.

<El-Cideon> The assembled crowd rushes out of the auditorium in a panic as the apparition attacks the announcer, screaming in a panic! OOC: Nadia.
* Nadia_Chekova doesn't believe she has any ability to fight a horrible demon such as this, so she keeps herself hidden and creeps towards an exit herself to escape without just getting caught up in the stampede.
<El-Cideon> There are wide doors to the left and right of the room, through which most of the crowd is struggling through. There's also a door in back to the garden, which Rena recently used.
<El-Cideon> At the front of the room, the apparition reaches out for the terrified announcer!

<Erin> Erin stumbles towards Yomi, just barely manging to avoid tripping over her heels! She mutters something arcane and pokes Yomi in the shoulder, surrounding her with a hazy green aura. "A hungry ghost! It must be a distraction!" She glances wildly around the room, looking for anyone who seems to be acting with purpose-
<Erin> -and not just fleeing the scene.
<El-Cideon> Nadia finds a few guests with more presence of mind rushing through the mostly-empty garden towards the foyer. The door across from her is standing open, possibly from Rena's recent passage. Erin can see no one in the crowd actively directing or participating in the ghost's attack, though an obviously stunned Selene seems locked in indecision.
<El-Cideon> OOC: Yomi
<Yomi> "There's more," Yomi tells Erin quietly. "I can't do much until Rena returns. Can you bind them?"
<Erin> "What? No."
<Yomi> "That leaves just this knife, then." Yomi grins, flipping the silverware to catch it by the handle. "I'll distract the ghost, get the announcer out of the way!" Without letting Erin a chance to respond, she launches herself towards the ghost, bounding from table to table!
<El-Cideon> OOC: double movement, I assume, so Yomi moves to 30 ft away. Announcer's up.
<Yomi> OOC: I could run? But sure.
<El-Cideon> OOC: Or you could do that!
<El-Cideon> The panicked announcer seems more than glad to have someone around to occupy the spirit's attention! Without a word of thanks, he shrieks in terror and stumbles away, moving towards the garden door with all possible haste. As he passes, Yomi can see he's in a very bad way indeed, bones showing clearly through his skin where a moment before he was hale and hearty: OOC: Nadia.
* Nadia_Chekova seems mostly safe where she is and peeks back through to see what's going on, watching as Yomi engages the ghost while the announcer flees in her direction. Where the hell are the Germans during all this? Did anyone mention them during dinner before everything went to merde?
<El-Cideon> There were a few of them in the crowd (in full uniform, this being a formal event) before the trouble broke out. Nadia can't see any around now. OOC: ghost
<El-Cideon> The spirit howls, a restless moan of desperataion, and swipes at Yomi instead of following its previous target!

* Yomi experimentally swipes her silvered knife against the ghost, lamenting that it is a weaker demonic spirit and not something she could actually kill with cutlery using a lot of dedication.

<El-Cideon> But the ghost proves an elusive target, ducking Yomi's wild strike! OOC: now Erin's up.
<Erin> The announcer seems to be evacuating himself, so Erin runs over to Selene! "You! Where's the Psuedomonarcha being kept?" she yells, shaking the woman on the shoulder!
<El-Cideon> Selene jolts as if shaken out of a trance. "How did--where did that--oh! There's a vault somewhere on the grounds! The most valuable items should be there...Who IS that? Does she think she can kill a ghost?"
<El-Cideon> OOC: Yomi's up.
<Erin> "I don't know, but she'll do better at not getting killed by it than anyone else around! This is a distraction, someone's after your goods! You've got to take me there!"
<Yomi> The knife is as useless as she had expected. Ah, if only she had known there would be weakling ghosts around! They have to be the only ones she cannot hurt without her sword, the lowest on the demonic food chain. Still, that is not the same as being unable to do a single thing.
<Yomi> All Yomi has to do is present an appealing target to the hungry ghost, while focusing all her efforts on dancing around its strikes until Rena returns!
<El-Cideon> OOC: full-defense Yomi is in effect~

<El-Cideon> "It's...I haven't been everywhere, but I know it's not in any of the sitting rooms. The governor's chambers on the second floor or one of the service areas here, maybe," Selene says. Meanwhile, the anncouner continues his flight from death at the hands of an unholy horror and barrels right out through the garden.

<Erin> A vault! She didn't see one in the service area, so Erin decides to try the governor's room! If she can just squeeze through the crowds and head for the stairs...

<El-Cideon> The crowd has dispersed enough by this point for Erin to make it out into the hall. She can remember being in this area before: there's a storage room right across from her and a laundry room a little down the hall. OOC: Yomi, still on defense I assume?
<Yomi> OOC: Yep
<El-Cideon> At this point Rena tears through the garden at a full run and races up beside Yomi with a cloth-wrapped bundle that shluld prove most welcome indeed!

* Nadia_Chekova decides to slink up the stairs using the bannister for cover to avoid being seen by guards or panicked guests as she goes hunting Germans!
<El-Cideon> This is easily accomplished given the current circumstances: the guards are quite busy trying to keep the guests in line and everyone's fearfully looking back down the hall, not up to the second floor. Oddly, there's a pile-up at the front door but no one seems to be leaving... OOC: ghost
<El-Cideon> Another roar of pained yearning erupts from the ghost as it this time opts for a less tricky meal--Rena.

<Erin> Erin heads down the hall to the stairs, preparing to head up them and start hunting for the governor's office!
<El-Cideon> A few stragglers rush past Erin as she heads down the hall towards the main stairway. There's a large amount of people gathered at the front entrance and growing hubbub of distressed clamor. OOC: yomi.
<Yomi> "To exterminate those who spread the taint of death to the human world," Yomi says, slapping the release latch on her pneumatic exorcism sword, "that is my mission!" As the sword erupts from its sheath, Yomi grasps the chain connecting the two and directs the blade at the hungry specter, pulling the sheath into her hands so that Rena could retreat safely.

<El-Cideon> Again the spirit ducks under Yomi's slashing blade, but at least Rena has an opportunity to slip away from the creature and retreat towards the garden door. She snatches a knife from a table but seems uncertain whether stabbing something with the consistency of vapor is a good idea.

<El-Cideon> As she rounds a corner, Nadia spots three of the Germans. The one who looks to be in charge is rather corpulen--you suspect if he put on any more weight he would be facing some manner of disciplinary action--and has thinning blond hair. Another has the insignia of a medic and is attending to the third, a standard grunt with an obvious injury on his arm. They presently have their backs turned to Nadia. A dead guard is lying on the ground before them. OOC: roll move silently if you want to avoid notice?

<El-Cideon> Again the spirit proves too tricky for Yomi to catch. Her battlecry appears to have inspired her audience, though--out of nowhere Selene seems to have acquired a whip, which she lashes out at the ghost. "I can only hope this actually works!" she cries out.

<El-Cideon> The whip cracks through the space occupied the ghost with what sounds like an unnatural sonic boom, but the spirit seems unperturbed as its body ripples harmlessly. OOC: Erin.
<Erin> Erin heads up the stairs to the corridor there and peers down either side, looking for some room that screams 'office'!
<El-Cideon> The second floor has a lot of doors ringing the walls. A glance inside an open one shows them to be mostly guest rooms. Much like on the first floor, the halls circle to the left and right around the central well that houses the garden. What stands out more is Nadia, peering around a corner at something Erin can't quite see yet.
<El-Cideon> OOC: If you're moving up to where Nadia is, yeah, move silent is on. >.>

<El-Cideon> The officer and the medic turn at Erin's approach, the former ready with a luger in case of any trouble. "Who--" he starts, obviously ready to fire at a moment's notice but not doing so yet. Nadia seems to not be what he was expecting and he relaxes a little. Though he's still not happy. "Why aren't you fleeing with everyone else?" he snaps, sounding more irritated than a nything else.

<Yomi> If she were alone, if this were the only ghost menacing people in the area, Yomi could afford to play with it. But it is past time for her to switch gears, fighting the specter as aggressively as she can!
<Yomi> "Back to the darkness with you, unclean thing!" Yomi cries out, releasing the ghost-slaying sword to whirl through the air, clipping the specter twice along its path.

* Yomi catches her sword and sheathes it in one smooth motion, turning towards Rena and Selene. "My thanks for the help. There are more of them throughout the mansion, and I intend to destroy each one. Would you like to come?"

<El-Cideon> "I would be more than glad to stay at the side of the most dangerous woman in the mansion," Selene says graciously. Rena walks up to Yomi's side, a little the worse for wear. "Why don't we just leave?"

<Yomi> "We must stop the demons and specters who would prey on the mortals," Yomi patiently explains to Rena. "Demonic energy draws more of the same towards it in a vicious circle. In time, the place itself can become haunted, and keep on producing yet more of it. To leave means to abandon those who live here."
<El-Cideon> The officer narrows his eyes in obvious skepticism. "No. No, I don't think so." He aims the gun more directly at Nadia now, though he hasn't turned the corner enough to spot Erin and realize it was actually her footsteps he'd heard. "You're obviously not one of the servants, or I'd kill you right now. I *will* want a better answer, though. What are you here for?"
<El-Cideon> Rena frowns. Incomprehension is apparent. "Then we go farther away?" she says with a shrug.
<Yomi> "Sometimes, you need to stand up and fight for what you believe in!" Yomi exclaims. "This is one such thing for me. I cannot allow malevolent demons to attack humans. I could never run away from this duty!"
* Nadia_Chekova doesn't like having a gun pointed at her, and with her most plausible response shot down she does the logical thing and pulls her head quickly back around the corner, then uses the old ninja trick to quickly climb up the wall and brace herself against the ceiling over the doorway so when they come running after her she'll be nowhere in sight!
<El-Cideon> Rena's face is blank. "I will help you because you helped me and because it has not been made clear how else I am to return the favor," she concedes. Outside the auditorium, you can hear occasional screams mixed with the constant running of feet. "Well, you are the fearless leader," Selene says cheerfully. "Lead on?"
<Erin> With Nadia abruptly pulling back in face of this threat, Erin opines to follow suit, only she dashes into a nearby guestroom rather than running up the walls!

* Yomi opts to nod curtly in acknowledgement, intending to discuss things with Rena afterwards, and heads towards the room on the right. If no ghosts are feasting on people there, she would need to spend a moment to take a second look for their presence.
<El-Cideon> Nadia scales the nearest wall! Given the spotty light, being up high might be enough to keep her out of sight. The Germans rush around the corner to find...no one there! They look around for a moment, the officer seeming even more annoyed now. OOC: going to ask for a hide roll while you're at it. +5 because the light's crummy and people tend to not think of looking up.

<El-Cideon> After a moment, the soldiers give up and start down the stairs, the officer dismissing the search even as he insists the others keep an eye out for that strange girl as well as "the other two."
<Nadia_Chekova> Once they're gone Nadia gently lowers herself to the ground then creeps around to where the Germans were loitering before above the dead guard.
<El-Cideon> Yomi and her companions find themselves in a hallway outside the auditorium. There's a door to their left (the one Erin entered by the day before) as well as one across from them. There are sounds of screaming echoing from inside this one. To their right the hallway extends back towards the garden and the front entrance.
* Erin peeks out from behind the guest door after the descending Germans, and curses to herself quietly. "Yomi, the germans are heading down the stairs!" she mutters into her communication orb. "They may have already got what they came for!"
<El-Cideon> The dead guard clearly died from a bullet wound. Judging by the state of the walls here, he gave some of his own in return. Further down the hall is another dead guard and a German corpse with a nasty head wound.
* Nadia_Chekova elects to follow the trail of destruction and corpses, hoping to find out what the Germans were doing up here.
<Yomi> It is a difficult choice, but Yomi opts to follow the screams for now.
<El-Cideon> The start of the violence looks to have been one of the guest rooms. Inside is another German corpse, dead in a sitting position as if taken by surprise.
* Nadia_Chekova takes a quick look around the room to see if it's been searched already, then backtracks to catch up with the departing deutschlanders.
* Erin starts to rush through the second floor, trying to locate the governor's office at long last now that the germans have gone.
<El-Cideon> Yomi's door opens up into a kitchen, a rather grand one about thirty feet wide with plenty of facilities for cooking a great feast for a large amount of people. there's a central island with ovens and the like and sinks around the walls. (more)
<El-Cideon> There's also a guest in fancy dress dying quite unpleasantly in the grip of another ghost. A man in a tuxedo, his body seems to lose all cohesion and melt away into component parts as the specter feeds on him. Two guards look on, seemingly apathetic.
<El-Cideon> Amidst Yomi's belongings, something suddenly rises in heat, as if trying to alert her to its presence. (OOC: that is, assuming you have the main orb with you.)
<Yomi> With a loud battlecry, Yomi charges at the ghost! Even if the man in its grasp is beyond rescue, that specter would not take another life!
<El-Cideon> OOC: Strike last line, then.

<El-Cideon> The Germans aren't in evidence by the time Nadia gets downstairs. Most of the crowd by the front door has dispersed; some bang on doors or windows with apparently little success. It looks like nothing will open. No guards are in sight here.
<El-Cideon> There is no answer from the other side of the governor's door.
<El-Cideon> In the kitchen, Selene launches herself at the feeding ghost, obviously doing her best to restrain nausea at the sight of the disnitegrating man. "Foul spirit! Avaunt!"

* Erin starts going through doors in a clockwise direction, although she's starting to think that her guess of coming up here in the first place was the wrong one, given the lack of signs of intrusion other than her.
<El-Cideon> The ghost shrieks in rage as it's denied full enjoyment of its final meal, vanishing into a mist and leaving the melted remains of its victim to splatter on the floor. The two guards look at Yomi in surprise before quite professionally drawing their guns and taking aim at her.

<El-Cideon> Erin finds the other rooms empty. The right door leads to a room apparently designed as a nursery, quite dusty and seemingly unused for a long time. The left door leads to a bedroom with a grand canopy bed and a portrait of the widow Ellis and man with a regal-looking beard.

<El-Cideon> Nadia finds an empty hallway as she proceeds along, though now and then her feet squelch in something that would likely be very unpleasant to look at it if she cared to. She passes the sitting rooms, one with guests shrieking in terror at the arrival of another ghost. At the end of the hall the storage room door is opened.
* Erin mutters a quick spell under her breath as she searches, scanning the rooms for magical interference as she should have done a long time ago!
<Nadia_Chekova> Nadia can't really help the woman deal with the ghost, and can only hope she proves a filling enough meal to delay it turning its attention to the sexy catburglar. Sneaking along and hugging the wall, avoiding putting her feet in anything that squelches, she approaches the storage room!
<El-Cideon> Selene whips at the injured guard as he bleeds and swears in pain!

<Yomi> "Are you in league with the demon forces?" Yomi asks, approaching, her sword still trained on the guards. "What is going on here?!"
<El-Cideon> The storage room is presently occupied by two Germans--the wounded soldier she saw before lies dead on the ground along with one of the house guardsmen. The officer is fiddling with the lock on a door at the back of the storage room and having little success. OOC: move silent hijinks again~

<Yomi> "Shut up about that!" Yomi snaps. "How many are there?" She only counted five, but there was no time before they emerged. "Are more going to be summoned?"
<El-Cideon> Nadia finds her efforts not quite sufficient to make it up the wall, but at least she doesn't fall and make an unseemly racket. Inside: "Dammit. Watch for anyone that comes running," the officer says as he takes a gun to the door. A the sound of a gunshot echoes off the walls, though from the sound of the officer's continued grumbling the lock was more than up to resisting the assault.
<El-Cideon> "Eight," the guard says, withering a little under Yomi's glare. "There were eight of 'em. Should still be plenty to do the job even if you've killed a couple more by now.

<El-Cideon> Pretty soon that gunshot does indeed draw attention. A pair of guards walk down the hall just after another ghost rises down from the ceiling above and enters the storage room. Hopefully Nadia's high-altitude hiding place will keep her safe? OOC: hide, same mod as before
<El-Cideon> Erin finds she can turn doorknobs and unlatch windows just fine, but anytime she tries to push one outward it's blocked by a mysterious invisible force.

<Yomi> As she expected, but the utter stupidity of some people--! "Yes, the demon could not have lied," she says as scornfully as she is able to, gesturing at the guards with her sword. "Rena, tie them up. We can't let demon worshippers go free. If they resist, they die."
* Nadia_Chekova holds her breath, her muscles straining to keep herself braced against the ceiling as she waits out the carnage.
* Erin starts to pick her way back through the mansion, wandering around in search of her companions. The continuing screams make her start blocking her ears, and for the life of her she can't recall a time when she felt more powerless.
<El-Cideon> "Oh, I can help with that," Selene says with some enthusiasm. There's some twine lying around the kitchen alongside the various cooking implements, which seems to do well enough.

* Nadia_Chekova carefully drops down once they've passed and then into the room, fishing out her lockpicks to get to work on that door that hopefully hasn't had its lock shot into uselessness!
<El-Cideon> Erin finds another empty hall as she walks along. It might be best not to think about what she's stepping in. At the end of the hall is the storage room she saw the day before, the door standing open.
<El-Cideon> The lock is a very sturdy and professional job and the bullet did little to hinder its functionality. It will take some work to get past it.
<Erin> Erin's gun hangs loosely in her palm, and she approaches the room and peers around the doorframe.
<El-Cideon> Erin finds...Nadia! And only Nadia. Phew.
* Nadia_Chekova doesn't delay, slipping her picks inside and starting to work the mechanism!

"But this must be where the enchantment sealing the house is maintained. If we can stop it, then at least some people can escape!"
<El-Cideon> The stairway proceeds down for something like twenty feet before Nadia reaches a landing of bare stone. A stack of crates blocks off most of your view of the room into which the staircase opens, at least at first. Walk five feet or so forward and you'll be in full view of whoever or whatever is in the room at large. The chanting is obviously very nearby, likely in the center of the room, and just as obviously latin.
* Nadia_Chekova uses the crates for cover and peeks around, counting on the chanter(s) to be distracted.

An unearthly glow arises from the corpse; as Nadia watches, one of the ghosts drifts down from the ceiling, drapes itself over the corpse and vanishes into it. (more)
<El-Cideon> The widow herself is draped in arcane-looking robes and doing the chanting. Three guards stand around the room watching; a fourth, holding a submachine gun, stands right next to her. Only this last seems to be actively watching for intervention.

<Nadia_Chekova> Getting position at the back of the room, Nadia slinks up behind the guard and then grabs the machine gun from him while he's distracted!

<Nadia_Chekova> "Nobody move!" Nadia barks, roughly jabbing the old broad in the back with her machine gun as she steps back from the guard after snatching it. "Or the mademoiselle gets it!"
<El-Cideon> The head guard yells at you suddenly. "No, leave you alone! You don't--"

* Erin sidles up to the edge of the crates whilst Nadia lays out of threats, pointing her own weapon at the back of one of the guards and gazing at the ritual with dread.
<El-Cideon> The widow Ellis jolts in surprise to look at you. "What--who--?" The eerie light emanating from the corpse suddenly dims, then takes on a sickly purple color. "No. NO! What have you done?!" the woman shrieks. The body on the slab jerks around suddenly as if a puppet with broken strings and the widow's screaming intensifies as a sickly, unclean sensation creeps into everyone in the room. (more)
<El-Cideon> The head on the corpse swivels from side to side at an unhealthy angle, as if the neck was shattered, and the body jerks into motion off the table. The skin visibly discolors before your eyes, a sick, purple rot setting in but somehow not stopping it from moving. It roars the howl of a tortured spirit as it lurches towards the widow with hands outstretched!
