Her mornings and afternoons are of making sure the troops are ready and improving morale, much as Commander Oberuth does. [16:59] <Kotono> The evenings are largely Alicia's own, to rest and prepare. Just after one slightly late dinner, Alicia happens to look out a window. It's a casual thing, the sort of motion anyone makes a dozen times a day. However, her passing eyes see it. A face shadowed by a hat, eyes gleaming as they watch inward. Seen for a split second, just long enough to register in Alicia's mind.
[17:02] <Alicia> "Febras..." Alicia growls, snatching up her sword before she promptly dives through the window to confront the fiend! Her own fiend can watch.
[17:04] <Kotono> "Mistress?!" Antenora asks in surprise, watching from a nearby chair - but she does get up, at least! Alicia dives out the window, finding no Febras. However, far down the street, she can just glimpse a wrinkle of cloth, a movement blending into the evening. Such speed, moving like the wind of a tempest given purpose and form.
[17:06] <Alicia> "Antenora, you have permission to fly so you can keep up," Alicia tells the fiend, knowing she isn't as fast on foot. And with that, she takes off herself at a run to catch up with Febras!
[17:08] <Kotono> Antenora's voice is heard as she hurries along, "My, and I complained your life was boring," she observes as she goes out the window and takes off. "Mistress, the strangest things seemt o happent o you."
[17:08] * Alicia doesn't spare any breath to reply to Antenora, instead focusing on catching up with Febras!
[17:09] <Kotono> Manwhile, Alicia runs! She sprints down the streets to the west, turning northward! She sees Febras at the far end of this street, looking your way. He looks on just a second, before gliding back. He seems to flow into a fine mist for a few seconds, ascending to the roof of a nearby building without pause. He reforms the moment he appears over it, landing silently.
[17:12] <Alicia> "Febras!" Alicia calls as she approaches. "You're under arrest - surrender peacefully or face the consequences!" she demands, ready to fire some magic missiles at him if he continues fleeing.
[17:14] <Kotono> As Antenora chases from the air, Febras stands where he is on the roof, waiting. "And a good evening to you, paladin," his voice is unusual, filled with an amusement as he awaits. His face is hidden, but the tilt of his head is more skyward than groundward.
[17:16] <Alicia> "Spare the pleasantries, necromancer," Alicia replies scathingly as she stops fifty feet from the building he alights upon. "Now, are we going to do this the easy way, or the hard way?"
[17:19] <Kotono> Febras stays where he is, idly tugging on one ringed finger, adjusting. "I come on pleasure this day, not business," Febras states, cocking his head downward, "Unless you desire a fight this night?"
[17:20] <Alicia> "I will fight on any night that one such as you is allowed to roam free," Alicia shoots back, before beginning to murmur the words to a spell. "Doppelgangers, come forth, and confound my foe..."

[17:37] <Kotono> With the aid, Alicia can just barely make out blood red dots in the sky, starting to gather together above.

[17:38] * Alicia prepares to fire some scorching rays into the swarm to tear it apart as soon as the bats descend within 45 feet.

[17:41] <Kotono> "Pity, I had come not to fight..." Febras chuckles aloud, "Ah well, if you know nothing but warfare, paladin. Good night to you." Febras seems to fold into mist, and as he does, "But I am not such a poor guest as to leave you without a gift." OOC - Since you're holding an action, act nor or keep holding? Bats are going on Febras's tick since he's the summoner.
[17:42] <Alicia> "Stand and fight, damn you!" Alicia calls furiously as he vanishes.
[17:44] <Kotono> "Follow me then..." Febras's voice calls, "Follow me into the descending night!" Meanwhile, the bats begin to descend down at Alicia!
[17:45] * Alicia sweeps her arm up towards the bats to let loose a pair of flaming arcs to whip through the swarm, before she rushes forty feet to the side and away from their descending course!

[17:51] <Alicia> Seeing that he's dissipated into mist rather than actually teleporting or going invisible, Alicia gives pursuit! Febras will not run free if she has any say in it!
[17:53] <Kotono> He stays high up in the air, but wide out, making a visible white mark in the sky. He seem sto take leisure in drifting towards the east, quickening his pace as Alicia heads from the new city to the old, hurrying! Antenora follows for now...
[17:53] * Alicia decides to try hurling a few magic missiles to see if they'll have an effect on the mist. They work on incorporeal undead, after all, so she might get lucky.

[17:55] <Kotono> The missiles fly into the mist as Alicia passes the streets, starting to run out of city! The hit the mist! She obviously can't tell ifs he damaged mist, but they seemed to hit.
[17:58] * Alicia wonders where the hell the other guards are, for she'd surely be grabbing a few reinforcements if she ran into any. For now, all she can do is pursue and harass. If it's anything like the gaseous form spell, those magic missiles should hurt, so she does continue to use them.

[17:59] <Alicia> "You lot, follow me!" Alicia barks at the guards. "Febras is trying to flee the city!"
[18:07] <Kotono> The couple of guards react quickly, starting to follow Alicia! "Ma'am!" The two of them call, as more missiles strike the mist! They're running well through the eastern part of the city now - there won't b emuch more city at this rate. Meanwhile, the mist beginst o lightly ascend.
[18:10] <Alicia> Knowing that there's no gate on the Eastern wall, Alicia decides to amend her orders. "He's going to head over the wall. You two go get reinforcements then head out through the gate and circle around to the East - I think he's headed towards the woods, since that's where he attacked Seira last. Be quick about it!" she orders, before hurling up a few more missiles and continuing her steady pursuit.

[18:14] <Kotono> More missiles are flung out to the mistiness in the sky, as it ascends even higher up! It's 70 feet up now and rising! Meanwhile, the guards salute and run off, as Alicia approaches the eastern wall!
[18:16] <Alicia> Forgoing missiles for the moment, Alicia approaches the wall at a run and quickly scrambles up it, not wanting to give Febras time to get much distance.

[18:18] <Kotono> Alicia wiggles and waggles, her rear shaking as she makes a grand effort to get over the wall! Meanwhile, Antenora just flies over it. With some work Alicia gets over thew all, not her best climbing ever but sufficient.
[18:19] * Alicia climbs down partway and jumps the rest once she's satisfied she can make it without injury, before checking to see how far Febras has progressed while she was distracted.
[18:21] <Kotono> He's mostly ascended up, drifting towards the east.
[18:23] * Alicia decides to save her remaining spells for melee, while hoping that Febras lacks any way to heal himself of the injuries she's already (hopefully) inflicted, settling for pacing him along the ground, her eyes seeking out any evil. Even if Febras can hide his own nature, he surely wouldn't waste such effort on his undead minions?

[19:16] <Kotono> The mist is staying just in range of vision, drifting eastward still. The reinforcements are hurrying along on horse back, generally, making up ground. If you wait a minute or two, they should close.
[19:16] * Alicia doesn't want to lose Febras, and so continues her dogged pursuit. Considering how slow the mist is moving, the reinforcements should be able to catch up easily enough, anyway.
[19:21] <Alicia> Actually! Since she has that wand Seira gave her, Alicia decides to use it to ping Febras with more magic missiles as she follows.
[19:21] <Alicia> OOC: I'm going to fire 3 MMs every round until either the wand runs out or something happens. It's one that was looted from the gnome ruins and I don't know how many charges it has.

[19:37] <Kotono> Glancing back, Alicia sees that her reinforcements are hurrying along. About ten soldiers up front, five more coming, and Commander Oberuth hurrying alon gat the head. About 2 minutes away?
[19:38] <Alicia> They haven't caught up at all! It's not like Alicia's been running, herself! Oh, well, at least she still has the ever loyal Antenora with her, right?

[19:43] <Alicia> "I can count them, and tell relatively how powerful they are, but I can't really tell what they are - what sort of creatures do you see?" Alicia asks as she holds position.
[19:48] <Kotono> Looking onward, "I see wolves, bats...things in the ground that I can't make out..." Antenora frowns silghtly, "That man is there now, too."
[19:50] <Alicia> "Yes, too much for me to deal with alone..." Alicia murmurs, remaining in tense readiness as she waits for reinforcements. "This is going to be a difficult battle..." Pondering a moment, Alicia takes out a recently purchased scroll. "You may want to stand back," she suggests before reading off it, creating a ten foot radius warding against evil around her.
[19:57] <Kotono> Antenora steps back quickly as the circle is cast, "Mistress," Antenora begins, "He is ciearly powerful. I could aid you..." she requests quietly.
[20:01] <Alicia> "If you wish to aid me," Alicia hands the Erinyes a pair of potion vials, which does necessitate bringing her into the circle of goodness, "These are healing potions. If you see any of my allies fall but still have breath in them, use these to heal them." Admittedly, she is tempted to use the Erinyes in a more offensive capacity, but feels that this would be a better experience for her.
[20:20] <Kotono> Antenora looks onward, "If that is what you wish, Mistress. I could do much more if you merely say the word," she admits, taking the potions.
[20:22] <Alicia> "Yes, but I'd rather not get in the habit of relying on you," Alicia replies. "Perhaps in time, but for now you can savour the perhaps novel experience of preserving life instead of taking it."
[20:23] <Kotono> "Then I hope your life is preserved in the fearsome battle ahead," Antenora takes the potions and readies them, stepping back as the calvary arrives. "Alicia?" OBeruth asks right off.
[20:25] <Alicia> "Febras and lots of undead wolves and bats are in that grove, sir - get the archers ready and I'll light them up?" the currently giant-sized paladin informs Obureth as she picks up a convenient rock and casts light on it, waiting for the men to ready themselves before she tosses it in amongst the trees.

It casts wild shadows as light is brought to this dark place, a thousand monsters made and created in the shadowy depths of illusion! Once the light clears, you can see the

[20:16] <Infinite_Ko_Loop> As the procession heads back, Antenora falls in step with Alicia. "You were magnificent in battle, Mistress," she purrs, throaty. "Your use of the soldiers was inspired."
[20:18] * Alicia shakes her head, keeping her voice low so as not to be overheard. "I asked too much of them... they weren't cut out for this sort of battle. As glad as I am to have ended the threat posed by Febras, there was nothing magnificent about tonight."
[20:20] <Infinite_Ko_Loop> "Really?" Antenora pauses, before speaking with a bit more restraint, "Was this not a great victory for your crusade? Was that man not someone you wished to kill? What is the loss of a few soldiers?"
[20:23] <Alicia> "An unnecessary one," Alicia replies grimly. "Had I properly engaged Febras in the city, this battle need not have happened. And even if it did, those mean were as wheat before the reaper to such opponents - but at the same time, Febras' minions posed very little threat to the Commander and I. We could have done most of the fighting and spared the men."

In the balance, who is to say which is more 'right'? For that matter, who is more 'wrong'?"

WE will honor those that were lost in time. Those that survived, you have been part of something special. I can only ask for you to continue to give our nation your aid and service."

[21:16] <Alicia> Now dismissed, Alicia gives Obureth a salute before gesturing for Antenora to come along as she heads out of the garrison and back towards her house. "You look like you want to say something," she observes to the fiend.

[21:26] <Alicia> "As you like. Just..." Alicia hesitates, before shrugging, "Don't be hesitant if you have any questions or observations." Not pressing further, she resumes heading home, intending to finish her dinner before performing her nightly devotions to Mystra and then retire.

Her life? Her honor? Her blessing? Her heart begins to race once more, uncertain panic filling her emotions. During this, Antenora opens her eyes. For just a moment she frowns. Alicia cannot see what lies on those paths at first, before she sees a shattered kaledoscope of images of her. Some expected, some not, some minorly removed, some the same, some far away, some...Alicia's mind turns away, her heart racing once more.
[21:45] <Infinite_Ko_Loop> With a thump Alicia's eyes open, her awareness returning. It is dim in her room but not dark, the signs of dawn approaching.
[21:56] * Alicia slowly pushes herself half-up on the bed, rubbing her face with her free hand. A dream? Or a vision? Or... a warning? Her thoughts stick on that last as she rolls over onto her back, staring up at the ceiling. "What *are* my motivations?" she groans quietly.
[21:56] <Alicia> She'd have been happy to banish the Erinyes, but... her curiousity was piqued by its words. It played on her arrogance to save its own neck... and perhaps corrupt her even as she seeks to redeem it? Such a terrible risk she takes, consorting with a fiend.
[21:56] <Alicia> But, she can't help but admit, Antenora is an intelligent and even reasonable seeming... woman? Person? Monster? Regardless, she is not a ravening and thoughtless beast. And can that sharp mind of hers then not see the benefits of a just and honourable lifestyle? Or is Alicia the one walking into a too reasonable seeming trap?
[21:56] <Alicia> Even last night, she admitted it, the 'right' thing is all too often open to argument. Is it not possible that the clever devil will lead her towards damnation, one reasonable and correct-seeming step at a time? It's a debate that has no end.
[21:56] <Alicia> Feeling no less settled than she was last night, Alicia finally rises. All she can do is follow her heart and hope it will not lead her astray. And she does believe that Antenora, despite her background, is not beyond redemption. It's her job to help the Erinyes see that and hope she doesn't lose her own way on the journey.
[22:07] <Infinite_Ko_Loop> The trip to Countess Stronger's abode is without incident. Antenora follows along well enough, Elle giving her cautious looks. But on arriving, "Yes, Alicia?" she asks, opening her doors for the day.
[22:10] <Alicia> "Febras will trouble our city no longer," Alicia tells the redhead, before looking briefly surprised. When did it become 'our' city? Putting aside her verbal slip, she recomposes her features. "I was hoping you could identify some of his magical belongings."
[22:12] <Infinite_Ko_Loop> "Oh." Smiling as she approaches, "Good news. ...surprised you beat Seira to the punch, though." Humming on that, "What do you want me to look at?"
[22:15] <Alicia> "A rapier, and a ring," Alicia presents both. "He used the ring to make some sort of life sucking blast. I broke the ring while he was wearing it, after that, but it still has some magic on it. Gives me goosebumps just holding it."
[22:17] <Infinite_Ko_Loop> Alicia holds both, her flesh alert and crawling as she holds the ring. "Alright, give them to me and I'll identify them. Just wait here while I do so?"
[22:18] * Alicia hands over the items and browses the store a little while she waits.
[22:19] <Infinite_Ko_Loop> Within about a minute, you hear a call, "Alicia!" Elle calls from the back, nearly a scream.
[22:20] * Alicia glances at Antenora and raises an eyebrow at the ruckus before heading through to the back. "What? Find something interesting?"
[22:21] <Infinite_Ko_Loop> Antenora follows, curious as well. As the two enter, Elle is sitting down on the floor and looking dazed, the ring lying on the ground in front of her.
[22:22] <Alicia> "What?" Alicia repeats. "Its aura didn't look too strong, last night..."
[22:24] <Infinite_Ko_Loop> Elle shakes her head a few times, "I tried to begin identification, but..." Taking a breath, "Disaster falls to he who wears the ring that is not meant to be worn by a living being. Only one with vast power can wear this ring and live." A pause to catch her breath further, "That's what I heard, then my spell ended forceably."
[22:26] <Alicia> "Febras was undead... I think a vampire," Alicia nods. "Pity it's not something we can use or sell..." Thoughtfully, she casts detect magic on it to see if the aura has changed since last night.

[22:28] <Infinite_Ko_Loop> Elle slowly gets up, "Ugh." Making a face as she wobbles to the nearest chair and sits down heavily, "Magic rings that talk back and shatter my spells. I'm going to hurt all of you if you start bringing in magical items that talk back and resist orderly identification."
[22:31] <Alicia> "I'm not even sure what we can do with it..." Alicia thoughtfully picks the ring up and pockets it before the tingly sensation gets too much. "Well... I don't think the rapier's anything too earth shattering, for all that it hurt to get stabbed with. Try that?"
[22:31] <Infinite_Ko_Loop> "Fascinating," Antenora observes, eyeing the ring. "Quite the rare trinket indeed."
[22:34] <Alicia> "If we ever find a friendly golem I suppose it can wear it. Otherwise it's not much use to anyone with a pulse," Alicia shrugs as the ring is put away.
[22:35] <Infinite_Ko_Loop> "I will in a few minutes," Elle replies as she rubs her temples.

On one unusually warm evening, Alicia's evening respite is disturbed by a knocking on her door. Antenora is currently being a bit on the quiet side, but does look up at the interruption.

[19:31] <Kotono> A simple page is at the door. He bows once quickly, "Commander Oberuth wants to see you before the full nightfall, ma'am."
[19:33] * Alicia nods. "Thank you. I'll be along shortly," she tells the page, before going to change into her armour - with Febras out of the picture she'd started to forgo wearing it while relaxing in the evening. "Come on, Antenora - the Commander wants to see me," she tells the resident fiend.

[20:04] <Ko-gameprep> The trip to the garrison is without incident. In the waxing evening, as a sliver of a moon rises in the sky, Alicia and ANtenora reach the garrison. A few soldiers and civilians pass by as you do, many either saluting or looking on with respect. As you pass into the garrison in particular, one normal man walking out says, "Oh...!" His face lights up on seeing Alicia, "Miss Reynes! Go get them for us!"

[20:06] * Alicia smiles slightly in reply. "Is there someone that needs getting, this particular evening?" she asks pleasantly. "I was hoping perhaps they'd have gotten the message, by now."
[20:08] <Kotono> Blushing a little bit at that, "Uh..." the man looks off balance, a rueful smile on his face, "I mean, just...get 'em!" he sputters, before scurrying away.
[20:09] <Alicia> "I know what you meant," Alicia replies, her tone kind. "It was a simple jest," she calls as he flees, before shaking her head in vague amusement as she resumes heading for the garrison.
[20:12] <Kotono> "At least heknows his place and has awe of you," Antenora observes lightly as Alicia begins walking inside.
[20:16] <Alicia> "I can live with that," Alicia replies, before remembering that she should explain things a bit more to help Antenora understand her mindset. "I might not be one of those social types who can be friends with everyone, but if I can inspire and reassure others, that's more than enough for me."
[20:19] <Kotono> "Lead by example," Antenora comments as you walk down the halls, Commander Oberuth not far now. "So that they stay in line, hm?" Her smile rises a bit, "Oh, so that they fulfill your common good, of course?"
[20:24] <Alicia> "You say it with such sinister undertones," Alicia observes, frowning slightly as they head inside. "But regardless, you still arrive at the same point. If people such as myself are visible as being both powerful and kind guardians, it reassures others that they will be safe, and therefore more content, and it perhaps inspires some to adopt the same role by seeing that it is in fact possible."
[20:26] <Kotono> "Well yes," The devil muses on this as you walk along, "Is it really that strange, Mistress?" she begins to chuckle again, "I find your city to be in it's own steel clad hierarchy. I had expected at least some disorder, but a few still lead the many."
[20:32] <Alicia> "When a large number of people live in a small area, a strong hand of order is a necessity for the well being of everyone," Alicia reasons. "In small villages or communes there can be a greater degree of laxity, but a city is too complicated a structure to be left to chance and whim."
[20:32] <Alicia> She cocks her head, "That said, I do find it surprising that this city doesn't at least strike you as at least some degree more chaotic than Baator. Perhaps you haven't seen enough of the city, and what is presented is likely skewed by my visible presence wherever you go. People will naturally obey the laws more scrupulously when in the presence of someone bound to enforce them."
[20:35] <Kotono> Antenora muses on that, but not for long. You approach the Commander's room, the door open. The conversation seems to stall as you do, a few soldiers outside the door saluting dutifully.
[20:36] * Alicia returns the salute to the soldiers. "Commander Obureth requested my presence," she tells them, waiting for permission to enter.
[20:38] <Kotono> They nod respectfully, "The Commander's waiting." Meanwhile Antenora sizes up to the two guards, but does nothing but follow laong her Mistress for now. Inside Commander Oberuth awaits, pouring over a map.
[20:40] * Alicia steps inside and gives a salute to the commander. "Lieutenant Reynes, reporting as ordered, sir," she greets him.
[20:42] <Kotono> Commander Oberuth glances up, a half grunt as his eyes taken in the two women. "Go ahead and sit," he gestures, starting to roll up the map.
[20:42] * Alicia does so, waiting for Obureth to tell her what this is all about.
[20:44] <Kotono> "What do you think of Mihail," he asks, to the point once Alicia sits. "I know Seira's opinion all too well."
[20:48] <Alicia> "Rude, overbearing, power hungry, evil..." Alicia trails off and shakes her head. "I could go on. The point is I find him personally disagreeable, although he has done nothing wrong, to my knowledge. I do believe it to be only a matter of time, however."
[20:50] <Kotono> "Hmgh," Oberuth's words are a muffled murmuring as he leans back in his chair, "He sent a missive to us through Countess Stronger today. He's offering a magical item to us in exchange for a favor."
[20:52] <Alicia> "Any short term gain offered by his gift must be weighed against the long term mischief he could cause," Alicia shakes her head firmly. "I would not countenance doing favours for one such as he."
[20:54] <Kotono> "Very well," Commander Oberuth smiles to that, "His request was to briefly borrow a member of the Crimson Guard for a task. For this he offered an armor.." He pauses a moment,

[20:59] <Alicia> "I recently had my own armour enchanted," Alicia briefly raps her knuckles on the silvery-blue breastplate she wears. "And you really can't beat mithral, in my opinion. Perhaps it would be useful for someone else - I won't dispute Mihail's skills and craftsmanship - but I do not believe Mystra would look kindly upon me working for one she has already marked to my eyes as wicked."
[20:59] <Alicia> She glances openly at Antenora and adds, "I tread a dangerous enough path right now as it is."
[21:03] <Kotono> Antenora smiles thinly at that, but holds her tongue. Oberuth scowls lightly, but only for a moment. "Yeah. Regardless, such an offer can't be entertained with seriousness until our current situation changes. I may offer this to Demedais if there i sinterest, but..." Trailing off, "I do worry about alienating him by a rejection and spurring his heart to more sour places, but I find myself unwilling to give an order to command that one of you

[21:08] * Alicia nods understandingly. "I can see the merit in that - it would also give opportunity to peer into his own plans. However, I imagine Demedais' vows would be as strict as my own... if nothing else, you could ask what he needs one of us for? He can't be so naive as to believe we would blindly assist him, anyway, and knowing his intentions here could prove useful. Certainly, there is nothing to be lost in the asking."
[21:10] <Kotono> "Agreed. Such can be ordered and sent in the morrow, it's late now. But for the moment, another matter." Going back to leaning, "The ring Febras held - Countess Stronger said it was an artifact of some merit?"
[21:14] <Alicia> "She was unable to properly identify its properties, but... it protected the vampire Febras from the sun's rays, and he used it to perform some sort of blight spell on us, as you'll remember," Alicia explains.
[21:14] <Alicia> "But since the only information her divination did impart was that it cannot be worn by any living thing, I don't see how we can test it further. I know there are greater divination spells that perhaps could tell us more, but they are both of the sixth circle, and I don't know of anyone in Balmuria who could cast them."
[21:18] <Kotono> "Damn," Commander Oberuth considers those words. "Useful yet useless at the same time. Still, a victory that it lies in our hands and not the hands of a fiend."
[21:21] * Alicia turns her head and just looks at Antenora for a moment before she gives her attention back to the commander. "Yes, taking it out of circulation is something, at the very least. Perhaps in time we may be able to learn more about the dweomer, and apply it to more useful artifacts. But for now it's enough to know that it isn't being used to the benefit of an undead creature."
[21:24] <Kotono> Antenora keeps her face quite calm and without outward tells of emotion, simply waiting. "Very well then. Keep that under your best guard. Should it fall into the hands of another servant of undeath - and I wouldn't put it past the chances to happen with allt hat happens in this city - we'll be back in the same situation we were in before."
[21:26] <Alicia> "Best not to advertise its presence, then. I'll remind Countess Stronger tomorrow, and I'll keep it under wraps, myself," Alicia assures him. "On the plus side, it seems to naturally defy divinations, which would make it hard for someone to magically determine that I have it."
[21:27] <Kotono> "Yes...I seem to recall someone mentioned that normal detection spells had difficulties with Febras and his minions," Commander Oberuth nods slightly. "Very well then, dismissed."
[21:28] * Alicia stands up and nods. "Good night, sir," she offers before departing.
[21:30] <Kotono> As you walk out, Antenora chuckles a little bit. "Mistress?" she inquires.
[21:30] <Alicia> "Yes?" Alicia asks, wondering what's got her so amused.
[21:32] <Kotono> Antenora pauses a moment, "Do you value the offered prize of this Mihail greatly as your Commander seems to?"
[21:35] * Alicia shakes her head. "Not really. I'm sure it's very nice, but I'm perfectly happy with my own armour. If the Commander thinks it's worth aiding Mihail and potentially having it bite us further down the line, that's his decision. But I do not see it as a wise one."
[21:36] <Kotono> As you walk out, "Perhaps I can aid you, to pursue your better good and in a safe way? If you have such disdain for this dark wizard, would it not be acceptable for his mind to be made pliant?" Antenora keeps her voice low, cautious, "If you wish it, I could endevour to make him give you the armor without condition."
[21:42] * Alicia really can't help but laugh, although she does keep a lid on her mirth to keep from drawing too much attention. "Yes, and perhaps I should have asked for you to dominate Elle so that she'd do the enhancements to my sword and armour for free?"
[21:42] <Alicia> "Really, Della, that's theft no matter which way you look at it. Even if I didn't find such magic to be morally reprehensible, there's far too much risk of him taking elaborate vengeance should your control ever come undone. Did you learn nothing from what happened with Dawnbreak?"
[21:47] <Kotono> Antenora's face remains pleasant and pleasing, "Very well, as you wish," she begins, but does not end there. Instead, keeping her voice honeyed, "Perhaps so, but would you not applaud such an act for your greater good? Surely it is better for you to have that armor, than for it to lie in his hands? I merely wished to aid you, Mistress."
[21:53] * Alicia smiles thinly. "Remember when I said that sometimes it is hard to determine what exactly is the right thing to do in some situations?" she asks, her own voice pleasant. "This is not one of those situations. The ends do not always justify the means, and when the end is simply greed, it makes a very poor justification for anything."

[18:27] <Infinite_Ko_Loop> "Mmmmmm." There's some silence as the two walk along, curiously continuing. "I see..." As the two walk out of the garrison, night has begun to fall in earnest. With torches, the way home is illuminated. "But then, would taking it as booty after a battle be more acceptable?"
[18:35] <Alicia> "To the victor goes the spoils. If he's willing to gamble and lose his life in such a way, his possessions would be a mere afterthought. Not to sound callous, but he can't take them with him, and unless someone else can demonstrate a claim to said belongings, then they are forfeit to the victor," Alicia reasons.
[18:35] <Alicia> "The important thing, however, is that any battle I do fight is fought for the right reasons. Much as I dislike Mihail, and much as I could profit in such a manner, I would not fight him without just cause."
[18:41] <Infinite_Ko_Loop> "I do not understand one thing, Mistress. How is not advancing the greater good of your city or nation not a just cause?" Antenora enquires after some time. "Would the good from killing him not far outweigh the evil?"
[18:44] * Alicia shakes her head. "Leaving aside the slippery slope argument, which should be obvious even to you, I'll ask how such an action would be perceived by the general populace of Balmuria. From their point of view, a cantankerous but law abiding citizen is summarily executed by an agent of the law, who justifies herself by saying 'He's evil. I could tell by looking at him,'" she pauses and lets that sink in. "What do you think they'd make of that?"

[18:53] <Infinite_Ko_Loop> "What would they make of it on you telling them?" Antenora returns, looking at her. "If their one of their heroes said it was for the good, would it not be likely to be accepted?"
[18:58] <Alicia> "Would it?" Alicia asks. "Someone is killed by those in authority, with absolutely no evidence of any wrongdoing, and the only justification is some nebulous concept of him being 'evil', which was only based on my word rather than anything he's ever been seen doing? It doesn't take much to question whether I was telling the truth - especially if I proceeded to loot all his belongings.
[18:58] <Alicia> After all, the *only* evidence we have for his 'evilness' is my word. And I've just shown myself to be a violent and greedy individual. Such a sequence of events would make me look like the evil one, and people would start to fear whether I'd turn my eyes on them and announce their 'evilness'. I would not be a hero for very long, at all."

[19:44] * Alicia takes a deep breath. "Very well, but before I go on, indulge me with one question, if you would?" she asks, before cocking her head. "Is Baator a nice place to live?"

"Hell, right now, is a Lawful place that is heavily corrupted by Chaos - but these two ethical extremes aside, it still remains resolutely Evil, does it not? In the same manner, the Prime has the potential for extremes of Law and Chaos, and of Good and Evil."
[20:01] <Alicia> "Even if I myself profit from evil, seeing the suffering and wickedness it engenders all around me would not be pleasing, and there is always the fear and uncertainty of other evil beings seeking to gain by your death. If Good were to reign, however, I could rest easily. By making myself an exemplar of all that is Good, I inspire others who can see the strength and righteousness of such values, and they in turn inspire others, and so on..."

"I'm taking pains to explain this in logical terms, helping you see the less tangible but more meaningful 'profit' that Good provides, but in reality it's not something I need to think about or justify." Resting a hand over her chest, she concludes, "My heart knows what is right, and that's that."

It's hardly revolutionary."

[20:23] <Alicia> "Well then," Alicia gestures invitingly to Antenora as she heads into her sitting room. "Perhaps you'll now see fit to let me in on your own thoughts?"
[20:23] <Kotono> "As you wish, Mistress. What point in particular did you wish to know," Antenora answers, obedient.
[20:26] <Alicia> "Lets start with your motivations in the immediate sense - why are you so eager to 'help' me?" Alicia asks bluntly.
[20:27] <Kotono> "You are my Mistress. Should I not help you," Antenora replies immediately. "After all, should I not have gratitude for your mercy?"
[20:33] <Alicia> "Mercy? That came after I ruined your plans on that other world and bullied your true name out of you so that I may keep you completely under my thumb? Aren't I lucky that the Baatezu are not famous for keeping grudges," Alicia replies, adopting a momentarily wide-eyed expression before her look turns more suspicious. "Do tell me more about your gratitude, however."
[20:35] <Kotono> Antenora's expression goes shocked as well, "Mistress, I would hope you of all people would understand heartfelt gratitude," she returns that look, "Is part of good such withering dissapproval of real thankfulness?"
[20:38] <Alicia> "No, but you seem to be under the mistaken impression that Good somehow equals doe-eyed naivette that borders on outright stupidity," Alicia replies levelly. "Give me some credit, please."
[20:45] <Kotono> "Perhaps, but perhaps I am grateful as well," Antenora challenges back, "I am in a better situation that I would have been otherwise."
[20:48] <Alicia> "Hmm..." Alicia doesn't sound entirely convinced, but she decides to let it lie, for now. "I'll accept that, at least," she allows. "Okay, in a broader sense, what draws you towards your moral stance? What does 'Evil' specifically mean to you, Antenora?"

[18:24] <Alicia> "Ahh, now you're making more sense," Alicia nods in satisfaction. "Having lost your chance to claim a dominion on that other world, and being forced into a subservient role to me, you can at least exercise some small measure of power by making me rely on your talents, am I right?" she asks without rancor.
[18:42] <Kotono> Antenora smiles a little bit, "I did help you, Mistress," she points out, "I can help you very much, if you'll just let me."
[18:44] <Alicia> "I'm sure," Alicia smiles thinly, the lack of denial all the answer she needs. "And if I happen to damn myself along the way, that's just a bonus?"
[18:46] <Kotono> Smiling back, "If you were to fall, I'd help you even then. I did give you my word...and perhaps, if you fall soeasily, you should look to another path?"

[18:55] <Alicia> "Now, as stimulating as these conversations are, I would not wish to overburden your delicate sensibilities with too much preaching all at once," Alicia decides, getting up. "Let us retire, and see if some of what I've said has a chance to sink into that infernal skull of yours."

[18:25] <Tiny_Ko_Army> ----! Alicia awakens with a start. From a foggy bank of dreams her mind reels, forgotten the moment her eyes perceived the waking world again. Her throat burns dry like a desert tornado, enough to parch the entire sea. Swallowing harshly, the wince of discomfort is enough to shake away any restfulness. In the darkness of the night, Alicia's mind is a complete blur.

[18:28] * Alicia sits up blearily, working some saliva into her throat as a short-term solution before she can get some water. A quick mental check, however... no mental ping from the alarm spell? No strange noises or disturbances? She must just be ill, then...
[18:31] <Tiny_Ko_Army> Alicia does feel rather horrid. Out of balance, head full of sand and nose stuffy. Her vision is half focused, half out of focus.

[18:33] * Alicia tosses aside her bedsheets and stands up, using the bedpost for support for a moment just to make sure she doesn't lose her balance.
[18:35] <Tiny_Ko_Army> Alicia's balance is fine after a few moments. Her head pulses a few times, wobbly. Half of her body obeys, while the other half is shaken and stirred. It feels at cross purpose, making her dizzy.
[18:36] <Alicia> While she'd like to just write it off as sickness, the fact is that Alicia felt fine when she went to bed, and she very rarely gets sick. So, she can't help but feel a little suspicious. Not hearing or seeing anything, she decides to augment her senses by casting a few spells, and calling upon her innate abilities. Assuming she can concentrate enough to do so.

[18:51] * Alicia goes to check on the other resident. Regrettably chipping the floor with her sword as she uses it as a walking aid (she can mend it later), she opens her door and goes to the next one along the hallway, rapping her knuckles on it to get Antenora's attention.

[18:53] <Alicia> "It's..." Alicia trails off and works her gummy feeling throat for a moment before she can resume speaking, "It's me," she confirms. "Have you heard anything strange, tonight?"
[18:54] <Tiny_Ko_Army> "No." After that, a moment, "Mistress, have you been attacked?" she asks, a note of curiosity in her voice. "Are you pained or wounded?"
[18:56] <Alicia> "I've had a spell cast to make me sick," Alicia replies, opening the door. "You might as well come out, since either way I don't think I'll be sleeping, tonight."
[18:58] <Tiny_Ko_Army> Antenora hurries out, looking about. "As you wish," she does so quickly.
[19:01] * Alicia makes an effort to stand properly so as not to appear weak, ignoring the mental ping from her alarm as Antenora exits. "Lets make sure nothing else has been disturbed, first," Alicia suggests, proceeding to make her way through the house to look for any signs of intrusion. And also have some water after expending a detect poison and prestidigitation spell to ensure its safety and properly cool it.
[19:04] <Tiny_Ko_Army> The water is nice. PAst that, Alicia does not find anything disturbed at all. Her house looks quite normal, how she left it. Antenora searches as well, shaking her head.
[19:05] <Alicia> "I don't understand..." Alicia sounds slightly confused. "I feel a bit ill, but its nothing too horrible... why would someone go to the trouble of sneaking in without a clue just to cast such a meaningless spell?"
[19:06] <Tiny_Ko_Army> Antenora pauses her searching, "How do you know it was a spell, Mistress?" she enquires, "Detection magics? Spell crafting knowledge?"
[19:08] <Alicia> "I can detect magic with a spell," Alicia confirms. "There's a foreign aura clinging to me, although I can't properly identify it."

[19:11] <Tiny_Ko_Army> "How delightfully curious," Antenora smiles just a little bit, eyeing Alicia. "Are not your own wizards rarified? Who would do such a thing?"
[19:16] <Alicia> "That I don't know," Alicia admits. "Since getting in undetected to cast whatever spell it was would take..." she trails off and snorts, shaking her head. "A combination of magic and stealth not seen outside the likes of Captain Seira. Either that or very powerful magic that's even more rare."
[19:17] <Tiny_Ko_Army> "Curious indeed. What could cause sucha thing, then...?" She frowns, going to sit. "Ah, it is a mystery."
[19:20] * Alicia likewise sits, her mirror image spell now expired due to the time spent searching, and sets her sword aside. Too sick to sleep, yet too ill to remain fully awake, it's a miserable state of affairs. "I don't like mysteries," she grunts.
[19:21] <Tiny_Ko_Army> Alicia still does feel ill, though at least all the walking cleared her nose out. "Well then..." Purring a little bit, "Perhaps you have more enemies than imagined?"
[19:23] <Alicia> "Hmph..." Alicia looks at the fiend through half-shut eyes. "Maybe one of your friends has come to rescue you?"
[19:24] <Tiny_Ko_Army> "Or perhaps your reputation spreads and you'll soon b ehosting a house of fiends?" Antenora keeps her smile on, even widening it. But it's not really a -nice- smile, oh no.
[19:28] <Alicia> "Yes, maybe I could get a Marilith to keep you company?" Alicia suggests darkly as she labours to stand up again.

[19:34] <Tiny_Ko_Army> "How kind of you," Antenora keeps her smile on, voice perfectly honeyed. "Mistress, I can keep watch for the night if you like," she offers, "In case something does occur?"
[19:36] <Alicia> "Your kindness likewise startles me at times, but I can't sleep, anyway," Alicia returns. "Wait here a moment," she asks, forcing her legs to work as she heads up the stairs. There's one thing she didn't check, after all.

[19:40] * Alicia nods in satisfaction and locks the box once more before heading downstairs to rejoin Antenora's bracing company.
[19:41] <Tiny_Ko_Army> Alicia coughs on th eway down, clearing her chest out and making breathing less sucky. Antenora awaits...
[19:42] * Alicia stops at the kitchen to grab a pitcher of water and two mugs, pouring one for herself when she returns to the living room. "Drink?" she offers perfunctorily, hovering over the other mug.
[19:43] <Tiny_Ko_Army> A shake of her head, "Now what, Mistress? Do you intent to spend the night awaiting the dawn?"
[19:47] <Alicia> "It's hard to sleep when I know someone's been casting spells at me," Alicia returns, using her prestidigitation spell to heat up the water and give it a harsh tang of lemon flavour before she downs it, hoping that will help clear her sinuses better.
[19:48] <Tiny_Ko_Army> It does a bit, but the fundamental feeling of being off balance remains, even as her airways clear. The edges of her vision stay blurry, unfocused. "Indeed." Antenora smiles just atiny bit, "There are assassins in Hell," she goes on casually, "Sneaking creatures that kill in the blink of an eye, bred and created for it."
[19:50] <Alicia> "I suppose most Erinyes would be hard targets for such, what with their innate ability to pierce illusions," Alicia replies, just as casually as she sinks back into her armchair.
[19:51] <Tiny_Ko_Army> "Indeed," Antenora smiles a little bit, "Most are impossible to do so to without luck."
[19:54] <Alicia> "Think your trade was a worthwhile one, then?" Alicia asks, idly rubbing at her blurry eyes.
[19:55] <Tiny_Ko_Army> Alicia's eyes don't quite clear. She finds she's having trouble reallyf ocusing. Some part of her vision is just misaligned, out of sync. "I think the gold dragon was proof of that," she retorts.
[19:59] <Alicia> "Yes, that worked out fabulously for you, didn't it?" Alicia asks sarcastically, rubbing her already bed-mussed hair as she leans back. "Then again, you did better than Kurlacck's servants, I suppose, so I should at least give you that."

[20:03] <Alicia> "You've proven adept at that," Alicia acknowledges, leaning over to pour another mug of water and flavouring it like the last before drinking. "But had you been able to teleport, you might have both survived and avoided ending up in my care."
[20:04] <Tiny_Ko_Army> "I wouldn't have been there if not for that," Antenora returns. "Lamenting the past is for fools."
[20:07] <Alicia> "A surprisingly progressive statement, from a Baatezu," Alicia inclines her head briefly towards the Erinyes. Not really in the mood to spar further when she's feeling so rotten, Alicia is content to let things lie for now.
[20:08] <Tiny_Ko_Army> Antenora just watches Alicia. This gaze does her no favors, perhaps, save for a snort from Antenora after her last words. But no matter - within an hour th epain has vanished. Her vision still isn't quite right, but the feeling of being out of sync is slowly fading.

[20:13] <Tiny_Ko_Army> ---! With a start Alicia awakens. Her head hurts. Her eyes are unfocused, her body disoriented. The sweet land of dreams is shattered, thrown into an illusionary blender of confusion. She awakens, thirsty and sore throated like a burnt segment of rock. The air is still a little before dawn, the blackest hour before the sun rises.

[20:15] <Tiny_Ko_Army> There isa faint, flickering aura of magic around Alicia. It's somewhat hard to see this time, and her eyes aren't helping.

[20:19] * Alicia again makes a laborious search of the house for anything out of the ordinary, this time not bothering to disturb the resident fiend.
[20:20] <Alicia> She also gets herself a drink.
[20:20] <Tiny_Ko_Army> The drink is refreshing, however, Alicia finds nothing disturbed at all. Her house is in order as far as she can tell.
[20:22] <Alicia> Nothing else she can do, Alicia goes to her room and tries to relax, hoping the spell will fade in time like it did the other night.
[20:25] <Tiny_Ko_Army> An hour passes before Alicia feels human again. The sense of being out of sync eventually passes as the dawn's light rises once more.
[20:26] * Alicia decides to take it easy all of the following day, and then try to stay up all night so she can possibly catch her stalker spellcaster in the act.
[20:32] <Tiny_Ko_Army> The day passes without particular incident. The night begins... A few hours pass, midnight arriving. Nothing unusual at all so far. Just a quiet night.
[20:33] <Alicia> Lets see if it stays that way!
[20:34] <Tiny_Ko_Army> Midnight is gone. So is 2 AM. Come the predawn, Alicia fights off yawns, but no signs of anything at all. Unless you count some howling of wild cats on the prowl at night, it's quite peaceable.
[20:36] * Alicia can beg a lesser restoration from Demedais in the morning. For now she must remain vigilant!
[20:36] <Tiny_Ko_Army> Dawn. The morning night chases away the pitch black night. No sign of anything, the city beginning to awaken. Soon, the smells of breakfast and breads will fill the air, everyone getting to work.

[20:38] <Alicia> Well, that's nice. But since the second attack did come after two days, Alicia can't rest easy, just yet. She'll have to do the same thing again, tonight! And when are they going to investigate those ruins? They seem to have an awful lot of time on their hands, lately...
