Hmm, so first house, and since I'm doing a lot of cable running anyway, I was thinking what cabling to have the electrician run around the place.   I've used digital running in wall, but it's been a while since I thought of putting something like this together, so any advice/pointing out the obvious, would be kinda cool.

There seems to be a cable coaxial coming out in my garage, but otherwise no cable inputs to wire to in the building, no phone inputs either but I don't have a landline and don't care.  Weird.  Well, of course I want to arrange it to be internet usable.  I'm an addict, not doing that would be craaazy :P

I see as reasonable options putting network ports and cable ports around and also seems to be HDMI things as an advice, but I'm not sure on that.  Seems obvious if I run network cable to run Cat 6 or Cat 6a, just for future proofing into the next few decades.

Got 2 bedrooms and a living room, where I'll probably stick a TV.

So, thinkiiing...

2 network ports and a cable port in the living room for the TV.

2 network ports alongside a wall in the back bedroom.

2 network ports alongside a wall in the front bedroom.

and then run it all to connect to the closet in the back bedroom + also putting a cable jack there.

Then have local cable internet company put cable to that jack.  Stick a cable modem + router (and switch?) there, and boom all rooms have direct internal gigabit or more networking.  Down the road could stick a media server/mass storage there and until then just stream video from home computer to TV whenever I feel like it.

Would be kinda neat.  ALso kinda a bit expensive (extra 500ish probably, but I'm already doing like 5k of work).  Anything I'm missing or other advice?  Never hard wired a house before :3
Well, Goodbye.

Add a power outlet to the closet if one does not currently exist.

Serious, otherwise you have to run cable through the door and it looks terrible.  If you're doing the wiring anyway....

If in doubt, err on the side of getting more than you think you need. You never know what'll happen.

<IronDragoon> I mean, why not?

If you have the option, what you do is put pipes in the walls, with strings rigged so you can run arbitrary cables as needed. Because in three years we will have HDMI+Ethernet+Power+USB running on a single CAT42 cable and you'll want to add that.

What we did was we wired the house for cable, and I got the best sexiest wireless router I could get, and we just use that for internet.

It works fine for gaming, streaming, etc.

It doesn't make sense to run HDMI in the walls, right?

Straight HDMI, I doubt it....  Wiselink or whatever future supercable they come out with, who knows. :X
