Ebiris

[13:59] <@Ebiris> As the drunken pirate finishes off the food Henrietta charitably gave him, the group approach the last remaining structure yet unexplored, this one standing apart from the others and made of cobblestone rather than wood, mismatched stained windows lined with iron latticework preventing seeing through the windows inside. On the sloped roof a seagull glares balefully down at the approaching group, its feathers seemingly replaced by quills of bony lattice that clack and creak with every movement, seemingly quite painfully given how every motion the bird makes is hurriedly aborted, leaving it no recourse but to glare.
[14:01] * @Lucie walks up, tries the front door.
[14:01] <@Ebiris> Lucie finds that the door opens a tiny fraction of an inch and then sticks, as if blocked by something on the other side.
[14:02] * @Lucie tries to shove it out of the way!
[14:02] <@Ebiris> OOC: str check
[14:03] <@Lucie> roll 1d20+2
[14:03] * +Hatbot --> "Lucie rolls 1d20+2 and gets 16." [1d20=14]
[14:03] <@Henrietta> "Hello?" Henrietta calls out. "We're not the insane people-eating things! And we have a ship! Is anyone there?"
[14:04] <@Ebiris> A solid shove by Lucie manages to crack the door open a bit, giving a small glimpse into the dim and dank seeming interior, just making out spilled soil and shattered glass at the far end away from the crack in the doorway. It might be possible to squeeze through as things stand, though it'd be a trick. No one replies to Henrietta's call.
[14:05] <@Lucie> "Bit of a squeeze here. Break a windoe, maybe?" Lucie circles around the building looking for another door.
[14:05] <@Lucie> *window
[14:06] <@Ebiris> There are no other doors, and the windows are all barred with iron grating inbetween the haphazardly coloured stained glass that might make access difficult without removing the entire frame.
[14:06] <@Henrietta> While Lucie does that, Henrietta checks the door's hinges. Since they are going to break things, they can probably go for the very door itself.
[14:07] <@Ebiris> The hinges are big rusty iron things. The door doesn't seem extraordinarily sturdy, but it's obviously barricaded from the other side.
[14:08] * @Henrietta tries to break the hinges. If that goes well, they might be able to get the door outside and out of the way, and see about the barricade inside.
[14:08] <@Ebiris> Trucy keeps an eye warily towards the cave while the others deliberate access, and the drunken pirate is putting most of his focus merely into standing upright.
[14:09] <@Ebiris> OOC: shoving it or flailing it?
[14:09] * @Henrietta hefts her flail!
[14:11] <@Ebiris> A solid whack at the top hinge shatters wood and wrenches metal free! Following up on the lower is enough to half break the door and cause it to collapse over an impromptu barricade of shelves, benches, and chairs. The door is still blocked by all the debris but it could be cleared aside or clambered over with little difficulty now.
[14:12] * @Henrietta shoves the debris aside, preferring to have a clear escape route should they need one. Once she is done with that, she leads the way inside!
[14:12] * @Lucie follows close behind her.
[14:12] <@Ebiris> Facing the door as you come into this dank and musty building is a workbench on the far wall, cluttered with all sorts of exotic reagents and ingredients arranged carelessly with alchemical tools familiar to Glenn. A riot of fungus festoons the Northern wall of, seeming to be growing from several shattered clay jars and urns placed haphazardly against the wall, sickly hues of purple and green dominating amidst pale fronds of lichen as they threaten to overgrow the chest of drawers also nestled in that side of the room. On the opposite end is a large glass terrarium, shattered open to have the loamy soil spill forth onto the floor near a long but low table adorned with several smoky glass bottles and a thin leather-bound book. From under the table, a set of stout and stumpy booted legs protrude out.
[14:13] <@Rudy> Rudy lingers outside, needing to only take one look at the interior of that building to want nothing more to do with it.
[14:13] <@Ebiris> The pirate pokes his head in then retreats and retches a bit more outside, the fungal scent clearly too much for his delicate system.
[14:13] <@Glenn> "Looks like alchemy was involved in this mess after all..."
[14:14] <@Ebiris> Trucy goes inside herself. "Think there's a cure or anything useful here?" she asks Glenn.
[14:14] * @Lucie opens the book and examines the contents. It's not like she knows anything about the plants here, after all.
[14:15] <@Ebiris> As Lucie stands over the table and reaches for the book, several pale purple tendrils emerge from under the table towards her legs!
[14:15] <@Ebiris> OOC: initiative
[14:15] <@Ebiris> roll 1d20+1 drunk
[14:15] * +Hatbot --> "Ebiris rolls 1d20+1 drunk and gets 6." [1d20=5]
[14:15] <@Lucie> roll 1d20+6 ohshi--
[14:15] * +Hatbot --> "Lucie rolls 1d20+6 ohshi-- and gets 19." [1d20=13]
[14:15] <@Ebiris> roll 1d20+3 Trucy
[14:15] * +Hatbot --> "Ebiris rolls 1d20+3 Trucy and gets 4." [1d20=1]
[14:16] <@Henrietta> roll 1d20+2
[14:16] * +Hatbot --> "Henrietta rolls 1d20+2 and gets 21." [1d20=19]
[14:16] <@Ebiris> roll 1d20-1 fungus
[14:16] * +Hatbot --> "Ebiris rolls 1d20-1 fungus and gets 16." [1d20=17]
[14:16] <@Glenn> "I'm still confused as to how such a scale of transformation is possible, so who knows...just be careful with touching things here if you want to search around," Glenn says as he moves closer to the set-up, looking to see if he can recognize anything that can hint at what happened exactly...
[14:16] <@Rudy> roll 1d20+4
[14:16] * +Hatbot --> "Rudy rolls 1d20+4 and gets 10." [1d20=6]
[14:16] <@Rudy> roll 1d20+5 m
[14:16] * +Hatbot --> "Rudy rolls 1d20+5 m and gets 9." [1d20=4]
[14:17] <@Glenn> roll d20+4
[14:17] * +Hatbot --> "Glenn rolls d20+4 and gets 6." [d20=2]
[14:17] * Ebiris changes topic to 'Henrietta > Lucie > Fungus > Rudy > Myra > Glenn > Drunk > Trucy'
[14:18] <@Ebiris> OOC: Go ahead and react Henri, the tendrils are fairly obvious
[14:21] <@Henrietta> "No!" Henriette exclaims, backing away and brandishing her flail threateningly. "Bad pirate!"
[14:21] <@Henrietta> She knows their adversary well enough, however, to let loose with a pair of dark violet roses to pin the frisky appendages to the floor. "Don't falter, Lucie!" Henrietta calls encouragingly. "If we fight together and from a great distance, we can defeat this disturbing menace!"
[14:21] <@Henrietta> roll 2d4+2
[14:21] * +Hatbot --> "Henrietta rolls 2d4+2 and gets 6." [2d4=2, 2]
[14:21] <@Ebiris> The roses embed along in a tendril each, stabbing and making them recoil under the table away from Lucie!
[14:22] <@Ebiris> OOC: Go Lucie
[14:23] <@Lucie> "What the devil--" Lucie reflexively takes a swing at the emerging filth before hustling back to the doorway!
[14:23] <@Lucie> roll 1d20+4
[14:23] * +Hatbot --> "Lucie rolls 1d20+4 and gets 16." [1d20=12]
[14:25] <@Ebiris> Lucie strikes down but the tendrils are too small and nimble for her to land a solid blow, the table protecting the main body of whatever it is from real harm. As she retreats it pursues, however! A wet schlucking noise is heard as an amorphous mass of bulging violet fungus rolls over the legs of the corpse under the table, approaching the door and snaking one tendril out at range towards Lucie's leg!
[14:25] <@Ebiris> roll 1d20+4
[14:25] * +Hatbot --> "Ebiris rolls 1d20+4 and gets 19." [1d20=15]
[14:25] <@Ebiris> OOC: AC?
[14:25] <@Lucie> OOC: assuming we've been on the island less than an hour my armor's still active, so 19
[14:25] <@Ebiris> roll 1d4+1 and fort save, Lucie
[14:25] * +Hatbot --> "Ebiris rolls 1d4+1 and fort save, Lucie and gets 3." [1d4=2]
[14:26] <@Lucie> roll 1d20+3 +4 if this is against disease
[14:26] * +Hatbot --> "Lucie rolls 1d20+3 +4 if this is against disease and gets 14." [1d20=11]
[14:28] <@Ebiris> The tendril slaps against Lucie's leg, making it tingle with a sharp and painful numbness for a few seconds, almost making her stumble! But she quickly shakes it off, working her toes and restoring feeling to her limb! The rolling fungal colony quivers as it stops between the table and the door, tendrils waving menacingly about as if to ward anyone from getting close!
[14:28] <@Ebiris> OOC: Rudy
[14:29] <@Rudy> Rudy tries to squeeze in a shot frmo the door, whilst Myra ambles towards the creature, eager to demonstrate that no chemical-wrought mutant blob is a match for her teeth and liver!
[14:30] <@Rudy> roll 1d20+7 shootin'
[14:30] * +Hatbot --> "Rudy rolls 1d20+7 shootin' and gets 23." [1d20=16]
[14:30] <@Rudy> roll 1d8+1
[14:30] * +Hatbot --> "Rudy rolls 1d8+1 and gets 5." [1d8=4]
[14:30] <@Rudy> roll 1d20+7 bitin'
[14:30] * +Hatbot --> "Rudy rolls 1d20+7 bitin' and gets 8." [1d20=1]
[14:31] <@Ebiris> Rudy's bolt buries deeply into the centre mass, only the end barely visible studding out of it! As Myra approaches a tendril flails up towards her head to deter any biting efforts...
[14:31] <@Ebiris> roll 1d20+4
[14:31] * +Hatbot --> "Ebiris rolls 1d20+4 and gets 12." [1d20=8]
[14:31] <@Ebiris> It misses the quick-footed monster, however, but her own efforts fail as she discovers the substance comprising the fungus is surprisingly durable and resistant to chewing!
[14:31] <@Ebiris> OOC: Glenn
[14:36] * @Glenn pulls out a bomb and carefully tries to aim so as to avoid splashing anything dangerous before lobbing it at the thing.
[14:36] <@Glenn> roll d20+6
[14:36] * +Hatbot --> "Glenn rolls d20+6 and gets 12." [d20=6]
[14:36] <@Ebiris> OOC: hit
[14:37] <@Glenn> roll 2d6+5
[14:37] * +Hatbot --> "Glenn rolls 2d6+5 and gets 10." [2d6=3, 2]
[14:38] <@Ebiris> The bomb shatters all over the fungal bloom, detonating in a fiery inferno that tears through the plant-matter with noteworthy speed and intensity, burning the entire assembly in seconds until all that's left is a wide ashen stain surrounded by dark flailing tendrils that fall onto the floor in intricate patterns as they too go up in smoke, leaving nothing but soot behind.
[14:40] <@Rudy> "It would really seem as though that thing was man-made," notes Rudy. "As if the world didn't have plenty of monsters to go around as is!"
[14:40] <@Ebiris> The pirate pokes his head in over Rudy's shoulder and gets an eyeful of Myra. "Aaaah! Monster!" he shrieks, hurling his sword over Rudy's back at the eldritch horror!
[14:40] <@Ebiris> roll 1d20+2
[14:40] * +Hatbot --> "Ebiris rolls 1d20+2 and gets 9." [1d20=7]
[14:41] * @Lucie tests her foot by kicking through the piles of soot. "Let's make sure there are no more surprises here." She peers under the table, searching carefully for signs of more trouble before hauling out that body. Or she would, if she weren't busy rolling her eyes at the drunk.
[14:41] <@Ebiris> The sword spirals end over end through the lab and clatters to the ground over Myra's shoulder, making the pirate shriek louder. "Kill it!"
[14:42] <@Rudy> "She's a.. a... she's my monster!" insists Rudy. "Don't do that! You'll blunt your sword."
[14:42] <@Henrietta> "It's a monster but it doesn't eat people!" Henrietta insists urgently. "It... goes first so other monsters eat it! That's much better than the other monsters eating us!"
[14:42] <@Lucie> "Will someone shut him up?" Lucie complains as she goes back to examining the room's contents.
[14:43] * @Glenn sighs and lets Rudy handle the defense of his minion as he returns to do as he initially planned, keeping an eye out for more creatures popping out from dark holes or something.
[14:43] <@Ebiris> Hauling out the corpse, Lucie finds a horribly dessicated dwarven cadaver, the corpse brittle and flaking powdery flesh off as it's hauled out. It wears sturdy working clothes and a leather apron, two potion bottles filled with soothing blue liquid glimpsed on his belt.
[14:44] * @Lucie removes the potions, sets them on the table next to the book--which hopefully now she can examine in peace. "So let's see what you were working on here, dead man."
[14:44] <@Ebiris> Since Myra isn't slavering and devouring anyone, that does manage to calm the drunk down a bit. "S-sorry. Just startled me is all..." he mutters miserably, turning away to lean on the outer wall and collect himself.
[14:45] * @Henrietta gets the sword and then retreats out of the building, awkwardly offering it to the drunk.
[14:45] <@Ebiris> The potions are labelled as lesser restoratives. The book appears to be a journal on an initial glance, though it might take a little while to read it. The other three bottles on the table are rather ornately made, perhaps of crystal? They're labelled but in a script Lucie can't read.
[14:46] <@Ebiris> Glenn finds a rather well stocked alchemist's lab here. He could make mutagens and bombs and anything else he put his mind to with ease if he dedicated the time and effort to it.
[14:46] * @Lucie stuffs the blue potions and the book in her bag for now. "Anyone think they can read this?" She asks, pointing towards the labeled bottles.
[14:46] <@Rudy> "What language is it in?"
[14:46] <@Glenn> "Let me try," Glenn says.
[14:47] <@Lucie> "If I knew, I'd be able to read it!"
[14:49] <@Ebiris> Glenn is quite capable of reading, they're in Imperial Jovar script! One bottle full of a muddy brown liquid is labelled as Intelligence, the other in disturbing lime green is Strength, and the last in a shimmering blue is Speed. All of them have the maker's mark of Zon Akuma.
[14:49] <@Ebiris> OOC: you can roll arcana Glenn on that name
[14:50] <@Glenn> roll d20+11 K:A
[14:50] * +Hatbot --> "Glenn rolls d20+11 K:A and gets 28." [d20=17]
[14:52] -> *Glenn* Zon Akuma is a legendary Jovar alchemist from several centuries ago reputed to have made numerous incredible creations and deadly poisons and worse. His greatest invention was reputed to be an elixer of immortality - he hasn't been seen openly for hundreds of years, but rumours and tales persist of him still secretly researching away in hidden places where he won't be bothered by fools unworthy of his time.
[14:53] <@Ebiris> Meanwhile the pirate shamefacedly takes his sword back from Henrietta, not meeting her eyes.
[14:54] <@Glenn> "They're in Jovar, it looks like. Intelligence, Strength and Speed," Glenn says as he points at each of the bottles in turn as he names them. "They're by a man called Zon Akuma...a very famous Jovar alchemist from ages past. Either these potions are centuries out of date, or that man did manage to create an elixir of immortality..."
[14:55] <@Ebiris> "So if he's famous you think they'd be better than the boosting potions you can buy all over Salerno?" Trucy asks curiously, lingering near Glenn.
[14:56] <@Lucie> "Did he?" Lucie says with undisguised interest. "So what do we expect these potions to do--boost someone for a certain time, or forever, given the supposed maker?"
[14:57] <@Rudy> "Immortality? I could go for some of that in this line of work."
[14:57] <@Henrietta> "So..." Henrietta says, fishing for a topic. "Did you know who was staying here?"
[14:57] <@Glenn> "Well, you'd have to convince people they're authentic probably. Like I said, the man is a legend, but one from centuries ago," the alchemist answers Trucy before turning to Lucie. "Probably temporary, I doubt he'd just leave something so precious like this lying around if it was permanent..."
[14:58] <@Ebiris> "Uh..." the pirate blinks drunkenly at Henrietta, focusing for a moment. "Aye, this were Leemo's lab. Funny wee man, so he was. Made fire an' acid, healin' potions, all sorts a' good stuff," he smiles weakly.
[14:58] <@Rudy> "Yeah, he'd drink them!"
[14:59] <@Henrietta> "Did he have... I don't know, a basement of some sort? A hiding place?"
[14:59] * @Lucie nudges the dead dwarf. "Pretty sure he woulda run there if he did."
[15:00] <@Ebiris> "'E bunked down in the caves with everyone else not on ship. This were just a lab so the place wouldnae collapse if he made an accident. Never did, though, smart wee bugger..." the pirate's face falls. "Dead now, isn't he?"
[15:01] <@Lucie> "On to the caves, then?" Lucie suggests.
[15:01] <@Henrietta> "He looked very dead," Henrietta agrees, her face falling. "It is practically depressing, I say, that I could tell so quickly with but a glance."
[15:01] <@Ebiris> "Think that book says anything about the potions?" Trucy then asks Lucie, shrugging, "If those potions'll be useful, maybe better to use them before we go in the caves and fight more monsters, right?"
[15:02] <@Glenn> "Yeah, let's go. Give me a second, I want to see if there's anything else that can be salvaged from this lab that wouldn't be too troublesome to transport with us..."
[15:02] <@Rudy> "Maybe we could drink the potion of intelligence, and then become smart enough to go home," muses Rudy.
[15:03] <@Lucie> "I'll look at the book later," Lucie says. "When we're not on an island filled with monsters. And, well, if we want to see how good these potions are, I'm willing to test one myself."
[15:03] <@Ebiris> Glenn could probably salvage enough reagents and tools to make four bombs, mutagens, or other alchemical creations, without recourse to a lab of his own wherever he is.
[15:05] <@Ebiris> Probably wouldn't be as good as using a proper lab in the first place, though.
[15:05] <@Henrietta> "Are we going back?" Henrietta asks. "Or will we check the caves to see if anyone is still alive?"
[15:06] <@Ebiris> "We should go. Nuthin' but dead or worse here," the pirate suggests quickly.
[15:06] <@Rudy> "We should do the right thing," replies Rudy, nodding and folding his arms. "We would want people to do the same for us!"
[15:06] <@Rudy> "If we were ever in grevious, mortal danger."
[15:06] <@Lucie> "Caves," Lucie suggests. "Job's not finished yet, right? Besides, you want to leave these monsters on the island so the next traveler can get overrun? Don't want 'em taking to a ship and coming back to the city."
[15:07] <@Henrietta> "It would need to be a very dedicated traveler," Henrietta mutters quietly, but she does not protest the decision.
[15:11] <@Ebiris> The pirate finally notices the fishing boat and elects to call it over and gratefully climb aboard with Grant and Callum rather than dare the caves with everyone else. A sloping path leads up to the mouth, wooden steps spaced widely along to make for an easier pathway. Torches line the walls inside but they're unlit, a dark expanse beckoning you onwards...
[15:12] * @Lucie has no need for a torch, simply casting an illumination spell on her mace as she walks in--keeping a sharp eye out for more monsters, of course.
[15:13] * @Henrietta mirrors Lucie's efforts, replicating them upon her flail!
[15:13] <@Ebiris> Heading inside you find the cavern branches a short distance onwards, one passage going to the left and slightly downwards while another proceeds slightly to the right but mostly straight ahead.
[15:15] <@Henrietta> "We always follow the right wall, right?"
[15:15] <@Lucie> "Let's not go down first?" Lucie suggests. "We know someone unfriendly's alive up on the cliffs still. Would rather take them out sooner rather than later, heading down's not likely to help us reach them."
[15:16] <@Rudy> "Unless it moved."
[15:16] <@Ebiris> "They can do that?!" Trucy asks fearfully.
[15:16] * @Henrietta goes right as there are no objections!
[15:17] <@Ebiris> Ahead the party goes, the passage twisting slightly a short distance on a bend to the right, some pale yellow light spreading out into the cavern from whatever lies around that corner, and a regular thunking noise is heard, like someone chopping wood or... something.
[15:19] * @Lucie keeps walking until whatever it is comes into sight. They're not a stealthy bunch, after all, especially carrying around magical lights.
[15:20] <@Ebiris> With Lucie leading the way, the party emerges into a wider and taller cave, lit by a handful of weak oil lanterns scattered about. It looks to have once been a mess hall or something like that, based on the long rows of tables and benches set on their sides, yet now said furniture lies in ruins, broken or tipped over in hurried barricades, against the far wall are several shattered barrels, liquid pooling around the ruins along with a few fragments of foodstuffs. Bodies are strewn throughout in various stages of dismemberment and consumption - it's hard to count the total number of dead due to the state of them, but at least half a dozen met their end here, some showing signs of mutation, others not. But not all here are dead.
[15:20] <@Ebiris> To the Northeast of the room is a kitchen area where a bodie lies flat atop one table, a great hulking brute of a pirate standing over the cadaver and hacking away with relish, meaty thunks echoing with every impact. Two other smaller mutants skulk close nearby, whooping and chortling at the grisly display, one clapping grotesquely elongated arms over her head and hopping from side to side while the other hisses softly and runs his black drool covered tongue across a bone-spurred chitinous pincer that's replaced his right arm from the elbow down, clacking noises heard as the appendage works reflexively.
[15:22] <@Lucie> "This...this'd be a good time for a bomb, Glenn," Lucie mutters on taking in the scene.
[15:23] * @Henrietta gasps at the terrible slaughterhouse! Truly, this is a time for Glenn to set all the freakish murderers on fire!
[15:24] <@Ebiris> The trio abruptly look over towards the entrance, letting out a cacaphony of eager whoops. "New... new ingredients, cook!" the female one pants eagerly, while the pincer-toting mutant makes a loud bloobloobloobloo noise. "Maybe, bloo... maybe I's gets a taste this time?"
[15:24] <@Ebiris> OOC: lets roll init!
[15:24] * @Glenn grimaces and nods as he pulls out a bomb.
[15:24] <@Glenn> roll d20+4

[15:24] * +Hatbot --> "Ebiris rolls 1d20+3 Trucy and gets 13." [1d20=10]
[15:26] * Ebiris changes topic to 'Lucie > Longarm > Trucy > Rudy > Glenn > Chef > Myra > Zoidberg > Henrietta'
[15:26] <@Ebiris> OOC: Go Lucie
[15:28] <@Lucie> "No," Lucie snarls at the crab-monster, "you don't. Let's see you squirm on the ground like the worms you are!" Lucie runs to within fifteen feet of the deformed duo and cuts loose with a space-warping spell! (OOC: CS, DC 16)
[15:28] <@Ebiris> roll 2#1d20+6
[15:28] * +Hatbot --> "Ebiris rolls 2#1d20+6 and gets 36." [2#1d20+6 = 24, 12]

[15:30] * Ebiris changes topic to 'Lucie > Longarm (KO 4rnd) > Trucy > Rudy > Glenn > Chef > Myra > Zoidberg > Henrietta'
[15:31] <@Ebiris> "Bloobloobloo!" the one with the claw continues to make strange noises from his overlong and corrugated seeming lips, "Pretty colours! Bet you pretty inside, too!" The shrieking madwoman with the grotesquely long arms is overcome by the display, however, collapsing in a twitching heap!
[15:31] <@Ebiris> "Not getting close to these either!" Trucy insists, going to take cover by a fallen table behind Lucy and hurling a dagger at the one with the cleaver!
[15:31] <@Ebiris> roll 1d20+3
[15:31] * +Hatbot --> "Ebiris rolls 1d20+3 and gets 7." [1d20=4]
[15:32] <@Ebiris> It sails past him, however, clattering off the cavern wall!
[15:32] <@Ebiris> OOC: Rudy
[15:33] <@Henrietta> "Very smart of you!" Henrietta calls in approval.
[15:33] <@Rudy> "I came here to kill a man, not monsters. Should we be happy? Or sad?" Rudy hustles next to Trucy, and fires a shot to follow up her dagger!
[15:33] <@Rudy> roll 1d20+7
[15:33] * +Hatbot --> "Rudy rolls 1d20+7  and gets 22." [1d20=15]
[15:33] <@Ebiris> OOC: hit
[15:33] <@Rudy> roll 1d8 actually I dunno if he's 30ft away, if he is this is +1
[15:33] * +Hatbot --> "Rudy rolls 1d8 actually I dunno if he's 30ft away, if he is this is +1 and gets 5." [1d8=5]
[15:34] <@Ebiris> Getting into point-blank range, Rudy sends a bolt hurtling forward to embed into the chest of the cleaver-wielding cook, pinning his blood-drenched apron to his meaty frame!
[15:34] <@Ebiris> OOC: Glenn
[15:35] * @Glenn focuses on the pair, trying to catch the two together in a burst of fiery doom as he lobs the prepared bomb.
[15:35] <@Glenn> roll d20+6 targetting zoidberg
[15:36] * +Hatbot --> "Glenn rolls d20+6 targetting zoidberg and gets 22." [d20=16]
[15:36] <@Ebiris> OOC: hit
[15:36] <@Glenn> roll 2d6+4 splash is 6 damage on longarm
[15:36] * +Hatbot --> "Glenn rolls 2d6+4 splash is 6 damage on longarm and gets 11." [2d6=1, 6]
[15:37] <@Ebiris> The bomb splashes fiery death all over the crab-clawed mutant, skin melting off as he shrieks in pain, his comatose comrade writhing under the influence of Lucie's colours and Glenn's heat at his feet! But it's not enough to put him down, either!
[15:40] <@Ebiris> "Hello, children!" the cook mutant booms in a deep voice that's almost a roar, "Today's," he pauses for a wet suck of air, spitting out blood and phlegm before advancing on Lucie, "Menu is blood pudding!"
[15:40] <@Ebiris> roll 1d20+9 charge
[15:40] * +Hatbot --> "Ebiris rolls 1d20+9 charge and gets 13." [1d20=4]
[15:41] <@Ebiris> He gives a powerful overhand swing, but the nimble oracle is able to dodge just enough for her coat of stars to do the rest and deflect the pitted and blood-spattered cleaver harmlessly away!
[15:41] <@Ebiris> OOC: Myra
[15:42] <@Rudy> Myra counter-attacks, chest-lodged jaws eager to savor the flavour of the culinary creature!
[15:43] <@Rudy> roll 1d20+9 charge!
[15:43] * +Hatbot --> "Rudy rolls 1d20+9 charge! and gets 10." [1d20=1]
[15:44] <@Ebiris> Myra stumbles over a broken bench, nearly kissing the floor with her extendable jaws instead of tasting sweet tainted flesh! Meanwhile the clawed figure approaches Lucie, using an almost comical sideways hopping crabwalk to try and get around behind her without leaving any openings...
[15:44] <@Ebiris> roll 1d20+9 acrobatics vs Lucie's CMD to avoid AoO
[15:44] * +Hatbot --> "Ebiris rolls 1d20+9 acrobatics vs Lucie's CMD to avoid AoO and gets 11." [1d20=2]
[15:44] <@Ebiris> OOC: you can AoO Lucie
[15:45] <@Lucie> roll 1d20+4
[15:45] * +Hatbot --> "Lucie rolls 1d20+4 and gets 5." [1d20=1]
[15:46] <@Ebiris> "Whoop whoo whoo whoop whoop whoop!" the clawed pirate cries out in triumph as Lucie swings fruitlessly over his head, clacking his pincer up at her outstretched arm as she's caught between the two!
[15:46] <@Ebiris> roll 1d20+5
[15:46] * +Hatbot --> "Ebiris rolls 1d20+5 and gets 6." [1d20=1]
[15:47] <@Ebiris> "Aow!" he then moans, quickly pulling his arm back before the pincer can close. "My disembowling muscle is all burnt up!"
[15:47] <@Ebiris> OOC: Henrietta
[15:47] <@Henrietta> A rose appears in Henrietta's free left hand, but rather than throw it she merely flips it over. She crushes the petals, and in return the stem grows impossibly long, snaking across the ground to bind the legs of the pincer-armed monstrosity together and bring him crashing to the ground!
[15:47] <@Henrietta> roll 1d20+11 trip!
[15:47] * +Hatbot --> "Henrietta rolls 1d20+11 trip! and gets 26." [1d20=15]
[15:49] <@Ebiris> Henrietta pulls the crab-walking terror's legs out from under them, a whooping grunt heard as he slams painfully into the debris strewn floor!
[15:49] <@Ebiris> OOC: Lucie
[15:50] <@Lucie> "STOP MAKING THAT HORRIBLE SOUND!" Lucie cries as she tries to bring her mace down on the felled creature's head.
[15:50] <@Lucie> roll 1d20+4
[15:50] * +Hatbot --> "Lucie rolls 1d20+4 and gets 14." [1d20=10]
[15:50] <@Ebiris> OOC: hit while prone at least
[15:50] <@Lucie> roll 1d8+2
[15:50] * +Hatbot --> "Lucie rolls 1d8+2 and gets 7." [1d8=5]
[15:51] <@Ebiris> His head is smashed, a sizable dent cratered into the back of it from Lucie's deadly implement! He nonetheless burbles and clacks his sizable claw, signifying that he's not so easily beaten!
[15:51] * Ebiris changes topic to 'Lucie > Longarm (KO 3rnd) > Trucy > Rudy > Glenn > Chef > Myra > Zoidberg > Henrietta'
[15:52] <@Ebiris> Trucy takes her remaining dagger and hurls it at the cleaver wielding cook, spinning end over end towards him!
[15:52] <@Ebiris> roll 1d20+3
[15:52] * +Hatbot --> "Ebiris rolls 1d20+3 and gets 4." [1d20=1]
[15:53] <@Ebiris> She badly miscalculates and aims improbably high, the dagger striking the ceiling and dropping at the mutant's feet with a harmless clatter!
[15:53] <@Ebiris> OOC: Rudy
[15:53] <@Rudy> Rudy's certainly intends to show Trucy how it's done, though he has the advantage of using modern weaponry while she's using stuff they had a thousand years ago!
[15:53] <@Rudy> roll 1d20+7
[15:53] * +Hatbot --> "Rudy rolls 1d20+7 and gets 9." [1d20=2]
[15:55] <@Ebiris> Rudy's modern weapon, oft thought to be the bane of armoured knights, fires its deadly payload with terrifying force! The drawstring quivers with the fury of its containted force finally being expelled, the laws of physics carrying the projectile inexorably forward to slay its prey... and missing by several feet, shattering off the far rocky wall.
[15:55] <@Ebiris> OOC: Glenn
[15:56] * @Glenn tries to reposition himself so he can better aim at the monster with the cleaver that wants to turn them into pudding as he prepares another bomb. "Eat this!" he exclaims as he too tries to lob something in that direction, like Rudy and Trucy...though hopefully with better aim!
[15:56] <@Glenn> roll d20+6
[15:56] * +Hatbot --> "Glenn rolls d20+6 and gets 19." [d20=13]
[15:56] <@Ebiris> OOC: hit
[15:56] <@Glenn> roll 2d6+5
[15:56] * +Hatbot --> "Glenn rolls 2d6+5 and gets 15." [2d6=4, 6]
[15:56] <@Glenn> ooc: -1
[15:58] <@Ebiris> The flames burst open over the chef, showering him with deadly orange blossoms that melt away flesh and burn away clothing in equal measure, a howl of rage wrought forth! Lucie merely has to put up with a few flakes of burning cinders coming her way thanks to Glenn's improbable aiming skills while her foe burns well on the way to death - yet far from all the way there, as he snarls and hacks at the oracle, jaws snapping right after the cleaver in a too-wide bite by far!
[15:58] <@Ebiris> roll 1d20+7 cleaver
[15:58] * +Hatbot --> "Ebiris rolls 1d20+7 cleaver and gets 11." [1d20=4]
[15:58] <@Ebiris> roll 1d20+7 bite
[15:58] * +Hatbot --> "Ebiris rolls 1d20+7 bite and gets 26." [1d20=19]
[15:58] <@Ebiris> roll 1d8+6
[15:58] * +Hatbot --> "Ebiris rolls 1d8+6 and gets 10." [1d8=4]
[15:59] <@Ebiris> The cleaver is again deterred by Lucie's coat of stars focusing itself to deflect the strike in a shower of heavenly sparks, but that gives his terrifying jaw the opening it needs to sink through her shoulder, teeth tearing even through the toughened deadened flesh it finds there!
[15:59] <@Ebiris> OOC: Myra
[16:00] <@Henrietta> "Stop eating people! We are not food!" Henrietta exclaims, brandishing her flail threateningly.
[16:00] <@Rudy> Myra steps to one side and begins to eat Lucie's opponent before it eats them! It's not a person, so Myra feels no guilt.
[16:01] <@Rudy> roll 1d20+7 bite
[16:01] <@Rudy> roll 1d20+7 claw
[16:01] * +Hatbot --> "Rudy rolls 1d20+7 bite and gets 20." [1d20=13]
[16:01] <@Rudy> roll 1d20+7 claw
[16:01] * +Hatbot --> "Rudy rolls 1d20+7 claw and gets 8." [1d20=1]
[16:01] * +Hatbot --> "Rudy rolls 1d20+7 claw and gets 17." [1d20=10]
[16:01] <@Ebiris> OOC: bite and claw hit
[16:01] <@Rudy> roll 1d6+4
[16:01] * +Hatbot --> "Rudy rolls 1d6+4 and gets 5." [1d6=1]
[16:01] <@Rudy> roll 1d4+4
[16:01] * +Hatbot --> "Rudy rolls 1d4+4 and gets 8." [1d4=4]
[16:02] <@Ebiris> roll 1d20+7
[16:02] * +Hatbot --> "Ebiris rolls 1d20+7 and gets 27." [1d20=20]
[16:02] <@Ebiris> roll 1d20+7 crit check
[16:02] * +Hatbot --> "Ebiris rolls 1d20+7 crit check and gets 15." [1d20=8]
[16:02] <@Ebiris> OOC: Myra's AC?
[16:03] <@Ebiris> roll 1d8+6 17 I see
[16:03] * +Hatbot --> "Ebiris rolls 1d8+6 17 I see and gets 13." [1d8=7]
[16:03] <@Rudy> OOC: 17
[16:04] <@Ebiris> Myra bites painfully into the insane pirate cook, tearing off a chunk of burning flesh right to the bone! He howls in rage, turning to retaliate as her claw expertly crunches through rips and tears out his heart - but even as he falls the burning and mutilated mutant manages to lunge and bite deeply into her unearthly flesh, tearing off his fill even as he falls into death!
[16:04] * Ebiris changes topic to 'Lucie > Longarm (KO 3rnd) > Trucy > Rudy > Glenn > Myra > Zoidberg > Henrietta'
[16:06] <@Ebiris> "Now I'm the boss around here!" the clawed mutant burbles and whoops, trying to gnaw at Lucie's ankle while its claw aims further up!
[16:06] <@Ebiris> roll 1d20+1 bite
[16:06] * +Hatbot --> "Ebiris rolls 1d20+1 bite and gets 18." [1d20=17]
[16:06] <@Ebiris> roll 1d20-4 claw
[16:06] * +Hatbot --> "Ebiris rolls 1d20-4 claw and gets 3." [1d20=7]
[16:06] <@Ebiris> OOC: AC, Lucie?
[16:06] <@Lucie> OOC: 19
[16:07] <@Ebiris> He comes close with that bite, but with his face half in the dirt it's not really hard for Lucie just to step back a bit and she can safely ignore the exploratory flailings of his claw.
[16:07] <@Ebiris> OOC: Henrietta
[16:07] <@Henrietta> "Did I not say to stop with the eating?!" Henrietta snaps, taking a step forward and bringing her flail upon the wretched creature's claw!
[16:07] <@Henrietta> roll 1d20+7
[16:07] * +Hatbot --> "Henrietta rolls 1d20+7 and gets 22." [1d20=15]
[16:07] <@Henrietta> roll 1d10+4
[16:07] * +Hatbot --> "Henrietta rolls 1d10+4 and gets 6." [1d10=2]
[16:09] <@Ebiris> The claw shatters into shards of bone, chitin, and gore under Henrietta's mace, the mutant finally ceasing his unholy racket and siezing up in death! The last remaining foe remains utterly insensate under the effects of Lucie's spell.
[16:10] <@Henrietta> "And stay down!"
[16:10] <@Ebiris> OOC: Lucie has first dibs on couping her, combat's basically over
[16:10] <@Glenn> "He wasn't boss for very long was he?"
[16:11] <@Lucie> "I'm going to kill SOMETHING today," Lucie snarls, wincing as she rolls her wounded shoulder experimentally. She stomps over to the downed monster and shortly reduces it to a smear of paste on the floor.
[16:12] <@Rudy> "Management isn't for everyone."
[16:12] <@Ebiris> With it being such an easy target, it's not hard at all for Lucie to shatter its head and anything else that earns her ire, reducing the mutated pirate to a greasy smear in the already corpse strewn mess hall.
[16:12] <@Ebiris> OOC: fort save, Lucie
[16:12] <@Ebiris> OOC: Myra as well
[16:13] <@Lucie> roll 1d20+3 +4 if disease OH GOD MUTATION SYNDROME NO
[16:13] * +Hatbot --> "Lucie rolls 1d20+3 +4 if disease OH GOD MUTATION SYNDROME NO and gets 15." [1d20=12]
[16:13] <@Rudy> roll 1d20+4 m-ra
[16:13] * +Hatbot --> "Rudy rolls 1d20+4 m-ra and gets 14." [1d20=10]
[16:13] <@Ebiris> OOC: carry on
[16:14] <@Lucie> "Do we have any more healing potions left?" Lucie wonders aloud as she glances around the room for exits.
[16:14] <@Ebiris> Trucy goes to collect her daggers, stepping gingerly around all the gore and strewn body parts hereabouts. The only exit seems to be the way you came in.
[16:14] <@Rudy> "Disgusting," notes Rudy, glancing at the corpses strewn about the room. "Gods, the smell, it's..."
[16:15] <@Henrietta> "The... left passage, then?" Henrietta asks, handing Lucie the last remaining potion they have. "And I am not saying that only because I do not want to stay here."
[16:15] <@Lucie> roll 1d8+1 healing
[16:15] * +Hatbot --> "Lucie rolls 1d8+1 healing and gets 7." [1d8=6]
[16:16] * @Lucie downs the potion, heaves a relieved sigh afterwards. Then she immediately returns to her normal mood: "Hell. We should probably look at these chumps, make sure none's Vanthus."
[16:17] <@Rudy> "I'll keep watch!"
[16:17] <@Henrietta> "I'll help!"
[16:17] <@Ebiris> "I'll help Rudy, too!" Trucy volunteers, retreating to the passageway.
[16:17] * @Henrietta points at Rudy. "Him! Help him!"
[16:17] * @Henrietta retreats quite quickly.
[16:17] * @Lucie makes a cursory scan of the dead pirates. All they really need to do is glance at the faces, what's left of them, then she's more than glad to move on.
[16:18] <@Ebiris> Given that Lucie's never met Vanthus, she really can't tell. Most of the faces do seem to be vaguely masculine, as best as she can piece together.
[16:19] * @Lucie ultimately just leaves in disgust!
[16:22] <@Ebiris> Backtracking and then following the remaining passageway, the party finds it dips and dives a little unevenly, steps placed here and there to smooth things over before it turns sharply right into another larger cave. It seems to be some sort of gallery or trophy-hall. The centrepiece of the display is an enormous reptilian skull, nearly six feet in length and boasting rows and rows of broad yet pointed hand-sized teeth, mounted upon a wooden display. Other trophies line the wall - nameplates from ships, weathered figureheads, mounted heads of sea monsters (though none as impressive as the centrepiece), and tattered flags, each perhaps signifying a victory for the Revolution?
[16:22] <@Ebiris> Although the cavern narrows into a further passageway North and somewhat upwards after passing through the gallery, there also seems to be a ledge up on the East near the ceiling, that seems to go into a path in that direction, although it's hard to see from down where you are.
[16:22] <@Ebiris> OOC: also roll perception
[16:23] <@Rudy> roll 1d20+12 m
[16:23] * +Hatbot --> "Rudy rolls 1d20+12 m and gets 18." [1d20=6]
[16:23] <@Rudy> roll 1d20+1 me
[16:23] * +Hatbot --> "Rudy rolls 1d20+1 me and gets 17." [1d20=16]
[16:23] <@Lucie> roll 1d20+10
[16:23] * +Hatbot --> "Lucie rolls 1d20+10 and gets 26." [1d20=16]
[16:23] <@Henrietta> roll 1d20+2
[16:23] * +Hatbot --> "Henrietta rolls 1d20+2 and gets 4." [1d20=2]
[16:24] <@Glenn> roll d20+8
[16:24] * +Hatbot --> "Glenn rolls d20+8 and gets 9." [d20=1]
[16:25] <@Ebiris> Almost everyone can hear quite loud noises echoing down from the Northern passage, carrying through the caves from who knows where - lots of clanging and rattling of metal, shrieks and hoots and growls. It sounds like a zoo or a madhouse where all the inmates have run wild.
[16:25] -> *Lucie* You can barely hear wafting down from that ledge another noise, like sobbing? You're not sure, it's quite distant and all but drowned out by the other noise.
[16:26] <@Rudy> "Hey, I have a great idea. Let's not go that way," suggests Rudy. "Seriously."
[16:26] * @Lucie ignores this, walking to the ledge and looking for a way up. No stairs or anything? Well, maybe there's something here that could be stacked up, or maybe it's an easy climb. "Somebody up there, I think. Someone less crazy."
[16:27] <@Henrietta> "Is he... where all the growlinh is coming from?" Henrietta asks Lucie.
[16:27] <@Lucie> "Not sure. More like crying."
[16:27] <@Ebiris> No stairs, some of the display pieces could perhaps be stacked up? It's about twenty feet high so they may not get all the way but could help. The rock is uneven enough to be potentially climbable even without rope.
[16:28] <@Henrietta> "I have my grappling hook, and I knotted the rope after last time," Henrietta says proudly. "Want to use it?"
[16:28] <@Lucie> "Easy climb if someone can get up there and drop a rope for the rest," Lucie observes. "Go ahead."
[16:29] <@Rudy> "Words cannot contain my desire to climb."
[16:29] <@Lucie> "Fine, go have fun with the madhouse."
[16:29] <@Ebiris> "Beats going through that nuthouse," Trucy jerks her thumb Northwards.
[16:30] <@Henrietta> "Are you climbing?" Henrietta asks Rudy. "Or were you joking? Because I can do it, then. I think."
[16:32] <@Lucie> "Just go ahead, somebody. That noise done the hall grates on me."
[16:32] <@Rudy> "Hah? I'm bad at it, seriously, you go up ahead. And yes, it's better than getting eaten."
[16:32] * @Henrietta tries a few practice swings before the real one!
[16:33] <@Henrietta> roll 1d20+3
[16:33] * +Hatbot --> "Henrietta rolls 1d20+3 and gets 23." [1d20=20]
[16:34] <@Ebiris> The grapple sails up and catches on a solid outcropping of rock, forming a secure grip on the rope which dangles invitingly down from the ledge.
[16:34] * @Henrietta beams at Rudy! "Did you see that? I practiced and practiced!"
[16:34] <@Henrietta> But she does not stop to boast, climbing her rope as soon as she ascertains that it will hold her weight.
[16:35] <@Rudy> "You, uh... good! Good work! You're a pro!"
[16:35] <@Ebiris> It's an easy climb on the knotted rope with a rugged cavern wall to brace on. Up on the ledge one can see an uneven descending path working its way down and to the East...
[16:35] * @Lucie follows behind Henri.
[16:35] * @Rudy gingerly works his way up, ready to face the unknown!
[16:35] <@Ebiris> Trucy goes after Rudy!
[16:36] * @Henrietta waits for everyone to climb after her, before she rolls the rope in and packs it away.
[16:36] <@Ebiris> The rope is so packed, denying anyone a chance to pursue!
[16:36] * @Lucie starts off down the corridor, hoping to find one less monster-and-corpse-strewn this time.
[16:40] <@Ebiris> Down Lucie leads the party, noises of miserably sobs heard loud enough for all as you go further down and along. Her light shines forward to illuminate a small cavern at the end of this sharply sloped passage, the sobs stopping as the occupant calls, "My love... have you come back for me? I'm so sorry... so hungry..." the rasping female voice echoes towards you before its owner appears herself.
[16:40] <@Ebiris> The Eastern side of this small cavern consists of a large frothy tide pool, its depths thick with seaweed and its surface roiling with the surge of the sea. Several narrow fissures in the ceiling seem to lead up and out through the cliff face to the South, allowing a breeze and a small amount of light to filter through. By the pool and hunched over a pile of raw fish and sea anenomes lurks a woman, she wears a slick black leather bustier, offering some protection but clearly designed more to flaunt an eye-catching figure and accentuate her curves, dotted with metal studs to reinforce its structure against attacks. A somewhat frayed cloak of purple silk hangs off her shoulders, clasped with a gleaming emerald clasp below her neck, and a silver-hilted rapier hangs in its scabbard at her hip. In contrast to what's being worn, the occupant is a slavering monster with a twisted jaw of shark's teeth, bulging eyes covered in rheumy film and her scalp distorted and seemingly pushed back so as to make her almost bald from the front while cascades of matted golden hair fall unevenly off the back of her head. Her back is hunched painfully and her hands are splayed wide with additional hook-tipped fingers, skin pulled too taut over them with every flex and twitch they make.
[16:40] * Quits: @Henrietta (~corwin@2.54.76.81) (Ping timeout)
[16:44] <@Rudy> "How friendly d'ya think we can be?" mutters Rudy, glancing up. "'fraid we're the rescue squad. What happened to you?"
[16:45] * @Lucie maintains a safe distance from the...woman...creature...thing...glad to let Rudy do the talking here if he wants to.
[16:45] <@Glenn> 'Rescue squad?' Glenn silently mouths in question.
[16:45] <@Ebiris> "Is that you, Vanthus?!" she shrieks hoarsely, standing up straighter and starting to shuffle towards the group, her eyes seemingly unfocused. "You came back... feed me...!"
[16:48] <@Glenn> "We're -looking- for Vanthus. We could give you some food if you can help us?" Glenn tries asking, though he looks uncomfortable with the approaching of the mutated woman.
[16:48] <@Rudy> "Oh, geez, she's only hearing what she wants," mutters Rudy. "It ain't right how they keep part of their wits."
