Ouch, have some Haruhi-as-Complete-Monster territory. Don't see this well supported by canon, but it's plausible enough as a seed idea.

Yikes. That bad huh? Yeah, like I said this isn't something really supported by canon whatsoever, and is probably pure darkfic territory honestly. Certainly it would paint Koizumi (and by extension all Espers) in an incredibly sympathetic light, but at the cost of pretty much completely dehumanizing Haruhi or at the very least the idea that she should have any kind of access to her powers.

Yeah, that bad. Haruhi basically crosses the line into tyrant goddess territory if she's willing to do this, even if only subconsciously, and if that was the case I think everyone would be working to remove or nullify her powers, not just observe or restrain them. You could spin just about everything up until Sigh in a way to build plausibility for it, but it's horribly dark and wouldn't have much room to get better short of some disaster occurring to her.

Excellent Youkai.

My mind works in strange (and apparently disturbing) ways sometimes.

Anyways. All of this talk sort of has me wondering about Tanigawa's intentions. I know that to some extent the death of the author must apply, but I'm wondering if Koizumi was written to come off as unlikable so that Kyon would draw audience sympathy for having to deal with him. I should probably ask one of the people on animesuki forums if there's any place Tanigawa talks about something like that.

Grahf

Sadly the person I talked to said he wasn't aware offhand of any talk about Koizumi.

Anyways, I was wondering if anyone had any in depth thoughts on how novel 10 or specifically the climax of it, might add to Koizumi's character.

Spoiler: ShowHide
The fact that Yasumi seems to trust him to a certain extent would indicate that perhaps his loyalty to the Brigade is genuine, at least at this point in time (assuming it wasn't before). Then again given that he may or may not have killed Fujiwara I wonder how that affects the reading of his character. His actions certainly come off as heroic since he's protecting Haruhi and Kyon to an extent, but the idea of him being able to kill someone might show somewhat of a darker bent to his overall character.

Halbarad

I think her trust in him would indicate that his loyalty to Haruhi is genuine, but I don't think that was ever in doubt, either.

TBH, though, I tend to gloss over 10/11 when considering character development; I really should read through the entire series end-to-end to check myself, but I actually got the impression that there's a noticeable character shift on just about everyone's part between 9 and 10 - to me, it felt like Tanigawa had lost his hold on the characters during that 2 year gap and what he put out wasn't quite right. It's part of what adds to my impression that the novels won't go any further; I think he knows he's lost the thread, but he had to get something out there due to the cliffhanger in 9.

Just my personal impression there, though.
