038.1 Afina, Jaela and the Tomb of the Graceful Blow Founder

[19:46] <Kotono> The five gather together at the front gates of Aurora. All are clad and ready, Misaela and Adriand standing side by side. Mirima rests a little away, by the gates with her arms folded under her chest. She has a look of cool detachment at the moment, "Afina! Oh!" Misalea puts her hands to her lips, white wings twitching, "Oh, it's true! Adrian told me, but...!"
[19:47] * Afina nods sombrely. "I made my choice, I'll have to live with it," she observes. "Better to see Lifasa free like this than to never see it at all."
[19:49] <Kotono> Misalea clasps her hands together, "Still...I'm sorry," she says quietly. Mirima watches, as meanwhile, "Hello? Hello!" A sweet, beautiful voice calls. Canderella approaches, waving.
[19:49] <Jaela> "Do we know what to expect?" Jaela asks. "Or it's entirely blind from here on?"
[19:49] * Afina looks expectantly at Canderella as she approaches to see what she has to tell them.
[19:51] <Kotono> "We only know what we told you already," Mirima replies, cocking her gaze over to Canderella.
[19:51] <Kotono> "Misalea mentioned your little trip out," she says, coming over, "I was curious about your style, too, since she's been trying so hard to get my interest." Misalea blushes and coughs at that, as Canderella goes on, "Got room for another?"
[19:52] <Afina> "I don't mind," Afina states, half wondering if Canderella could be considered a kindred spirit now with how her nature's been changed in the past.
[19:53] <Jaela> "It is your quest," Jaela tells Misalea and Mirima, leaving the choice to them.
[19:53] <Kotono> "Oh!" Misalea claps her hands together, "Of course you can! I told you that you're more than welcome to study the Graceful Blow!"
[19:53] <Kotono> Mirima shrugs minutely, keeping out of it. Adrian coughs, "Well, if Misalea's for it, then I'm for it too."
[19:54] <Kotono> "You sound like a husband already," Canderella lightly laughs, "Then I'll be glad to come along."
[19:59] <Jaela> It feels like she should say something, so Jaela does. "I'll be taking us across, then, unless there is anything else."
[19:59] <Kotono> "I think we're ready," Adrian says, taking hands and gathering, a circle forming. "Transport us over, Jaela."
[20:00] * Jaela does so without any other delay.
[20:02] <Kotono> Woosh! The gentle sounds of the forest are the first thing you notice, followed by nothing. No oppressive feeling of wrongness or pain, or no celestial illumination and joy. No glory of Fire, no anything else at all. Just the gentle sounds and coolness of the forest.  Ahead of you is a short path, leading to a large dome. The dome looks to be of woven trees, growing amdi it, and snowy white
[20:02] <Kotono> stone. It doesn't quite look like marble, though it has a stony shine to it.
[20:02] * Jaela wards herself against any hostile energy to not suffer another ignoble death like at the Aeropolis, before making the rounds and casting Fortunate Fate on everyone. She saves Mirima for last, and once done asks, "What are your hobbies?"
[20:03] <Kotono> Misalea sighs - a long, happy noise. "I missed this," she murmurs, taking the time to look about. "Isn't it wonderful, Adrian?"
[20:04] <Kotono> Adrian smiles slightly, rubbing his chin before putting an arm around Misalea. "Reminds me of Lifasa." He doesn't frown when he says it, sparing a glance over at Afina, a critical eye to her. After a moment Misalea silently nods, doing the same.
[20:04] <Kotono> Mirima faintly smiles and murmurs words of thanks, "This sounds like a conversation better held in private," she murmurs to Jaela, "We need to talk...just not right now, alright?"
[20:05] * Afina looks blandly back at Adrian. "I'm not going to burn it all down if that's what you're worried about," she tells him, her typical temperature wardings keeping her quite comfortable even if she's not in a bonfire.
[20:06] <Jaela> "Ah, alright." Jaela draws away and takes the lead. "No time like the present," she says, starting to walk towards the dome. "We can return here as much as we want. There are no problems with that."
[20:07] <Kotono> "It wasn't," Adrian falls in step, "I just thought..." He hesitates a moment, "It might be sort of a bitter homecoming. Back to the forests you lost, but you're not the same part of them now. I was concerned."
[20:08] <Kotono> "Mmmm, she'll be fine, I think," Canderella speaks up, sauntering next to Afina. "I've been in a few blazing forests. They're quite charming, and I suppose that would salve Afina's feelings even if you're correct. Besides..." With a long sigh, "You can't ever get back the good old days. It's the nature of change."
[20:09] <Kotono> Mirima smiles again briefly to Jaela, as the party advances. Approaching the dome, you see the path winds to the right side of it - no entrance is visible, but the path continues on past around it and out of sight.
[20:09] <Afina> The pyropixie shakes her head, "No... Arborea was like that for me, after seeing the Gloaming Forest fall and spending two years on Gehenna. By now I'm used to it." At the succubus's interruption she smiles fondly, "Simmer's home was very beautiful, though."
[20:09] <Jaela> "27 would say that there is nothing impossible," Jaela muses, deciding to follow the path.
[20:13] <Kotono> "I think the same thing about Limbo now," Canderella says as you continue to follow the path, "It's not the good old days, but it has an appeal. I remember the first time I was bored there, and I just watched the chaos outside of my room.  Oh, I saw the fire and water clash, then earth erupt out and form a steam vent as duelling slaad burst out and fought to the death. Beautiful." Sighing in
[20:13] <Kotono> contentment, "You can't have the old days back, but the new days aren't all bad."
[20:15] <Kotono> Around the other side you come to a slight intend in the dome. It's 10ft deep, an engraving of some sort carved into the ground there atop a stone slab.
[20:15] <Kotono> At this moment Mirima comes forward, "This is what we were looking for," she announces, "We can enter through here."
[20:15] <Afina> "Better to get used to it than to be miserably nostalgic," Afina agrees, fluttering along. "Just a shame most people on Fire are horrible. But if there are people like Simmer it can't be all bad."
[20:15] <Jaela> "Is there some trick?" Jaela asks, calling upon Detect Magic.
[20:19] <Kotono> There is indeed moderate magic here. "Yes, there's a command phrase we can use to enter," Misalea says, "From here we'll be going in blind, so be on guard." She and Mirima both kneel at the center of the slab, "Everyone get on."

[20:23] <Kotono> Adrian and Canderella follow, the slab quite full now! In elven the two speak thus, "To beauty and grace we call on the gate to open! Show us the way to what is sequested away!" At that moment you are surrounded by a blue glow and then you are gone! Dark. It's dark here, perfectly dark. There is not a hint of light at all. For just a moment, and then light is around you. As if you stand amid
[20:23] <Kotono> the night sky, starlight bursting into being, dozens of constellations and stars appearing around you!
[20:26] * Jaela is little more than a glorified guard on this quest, along with a chance to learn something about the Graceful Blow's heritage. She lets Mirima and Misalea take the lead here.
[20:27] <Afina> Recalling the note about having the power to forge stars, Afina hopes they can manage without it since Jaela and her mother seem to be undergoing a rift right now. "Now it's up to you two to sieze your inheritance," she tells Mirima and Misaela, fluttering into the air. "Lead the way?"
[20:29] <Kotono> Mirima and Misaela exchange a look, before nodding and taking point. OOC: Do any of you have perceptions of note beyond spot? Adrian has see invis.

[20:32] <Kotono> You find the ground solid, despite being star-spangled darkness. For a time you walk along - until Jaela and Afina both sense it, coming into being 20ft away and 10ft ahead of Mirima and Misalea. Some sort of humanoid creature. At the same time Adrian's hand goes to the hilt of his blade, as...OOC: Go ahead and react.
[20:33] * Jaela draws Gae Trocaire but keeps its tip lowered at the ground as she steps in between the humanoid and the Graceful Blow girls.
[20:34] * Afina gives no response at all. Best to let the girls handle it themselves unless they get in over their heads.
[20:37] <Kotono> "Hold it," Adrian says, blade drawn. As this happens and Jaela takes position, the figure appears. It is a feminine shape, made of stars and light. A blade of light is in one hand, the outline of a dress holding it. It looks to Jaela, "You are not one of the art," It speaks in a honeyed female voice, "Step aside."
[20:37] * Jaela inclines her head and Gae Trocaire disappears once more. She has no problem to follow that request.
[20:43] <Kotono> Once Jaela retreats, "Two of the art," She approves, "You have brought other women....and a man...? He is not of the art, but your scent is on him," The star-figure speaks, "Ah, your mate." As Misalea manages to redden again, "What lies within will not be without danger and peril. The stars themselves will oppose you. Seek the Cauldron of Stars ahead, past the constellation of the great swan.
[20:43] <Kotono> We will talk again then." The stars thenb reak apart, flying up to the sky and taking place there.
[20:45] <Kotono> "I do wonder why everyone always wishes to see combat as a challenge...even if I understand this is likely a veiled test of the Graceful Blow and your mastery of it," Adrian speaks aloud, "At least she didn't say anything about fighting alone."
[20:46] <Afina> Looking at Jaela for a moment, Afina sighs softly before speaking, "Jaela, you remember your note from 27 about using 21 on Annalise?" she asks, "I got one at the same time, it said that the power to forge stars would be important soon. I think this is it, so we should get Hanna for this."
[20:47] <Kotono> "Really, the odds are in our favor," Canderella says, twirling a bit of hair with a thoughtful hum, "I doubt she really would want to kill members of her art. The Graceful Blow doesn't seem to have that sort of savagery in it. Ah, I remember when 99 out of 100 prospective devotees of darkness were killed and only 1 was accepted. You had to get creative after draining the life out of about half
[20:47] <Kotono> a dozen."
[20:48] <Jaela> "Thank you for those lovely thoughts," Jaela tells Canderella, making a face. She turns towards the two practicioners of the Graceful Blow and says, "27's notes are spot on. I can manage two more shifts easily. The choice should be yours."
[20:49] <Afina> "Wouldn't it be better to have them kill each other so the strongest survive?" Afina asks Canderella, momentarily distracted. "Or was it more for your own enjoyment than anything else?"
[20:50] <Kotono> "Oh, the leader of the entire thing was fond of unneeded bloodshed. You know how balors get, especially when they're bored." Nodding a bit to that, "He just liked seeing deaths, and apparently watching succubi leech the life out of mortals interested him."
[20:50] <Kotono> Mirima and Misalea exchange a long glance, Mirima speaking first, "I refuse to believe that our trial can only be defeated with the help of someone outside the art."
[20:50] <Afina> "I doubt it was just the death part that got him, then," Afina remarks dryly.
[20:51] <Kotono> "That is true, but..." Misalea stops there, "We lost one war already. Why risk losing again?"
[20:51] <Afina> Attention back on the graceful girls, Afina suggests, "It might not be about defeating so much as getting something extra out of it."
[20:52] <Kotono> "Oh, that? He wasn't so interested in that. He wasn't into humanoids at all. He had me gather his favored type a few times - unicorns." Canderella says, "You don't really want to know the details of that, do you?"
[20:52] <Kotono> "That's a thought. 27 does know things we don't," Adrian says, "I saw it's wise to get her. Just have her keep out of it until her skills are needed."
[20:53] <Jaela> "If I have to be the tiebreaker," Jaela says, in part to avoid listening to another horrible story, "then I err on the side of caution. Unless it would hurt your prides, let us go back for this moment and return after we found Hanna."
[20:53] <Afina> "I'm done," Afina holds up a hand towards Canderella without looking at her to signify her having enough with the conversation.
[21:00] <Kotono> Canderella smiles, downright angelic in her pure amusement and innocent look. Meanwhile, "How about we go back for her if we need her skills?" Mirima suggests, "If we never do, then there's no need.'
[21:01] <Afina> "In the end it's your choice. Lead on, inheritors of the Graceful Blow," Afina bids the pair of beautiful elves, content to remain in the back with the beautiful succubus.
[21:03] * Jaela positions herself just behind the pair, going with Val'Finnegan. Should there be anything that is an actual threat to them, she will be able to step in rather than regret it for her entire life.
[21:11] <Kotono> At this, Mirima looks to the sky. "She mentioned a swan constellation," she says, looking about, "Anyone see it?"

The latter calls, the four naught but stars and light, "Girls? You think some girls can beat our strength? Get 'em! It's 2 on 4,

[21:30] * Jaela just stares at them incredulously.
[21:30] <Afina> "Make Elrisa proud, you two!" Afina calls supportively, hanging back.
[21:31] <Kotono> "Ten seconds," Adrian says, "Maybe fifteen if one of them gets in a lucky shot."  At this, the four advance on the two members of the Graceful Blow! OOC: INit.

[21:49] <Jaela> "It was difficult to stay silent," Jaela admits, approaching Misalea and placing her hand on the elf's shoulder. "But I didn't have a moment's doubt."

[21:49] <Afina> "That was too slow, Misalea," Afina criticises, flying up towards the white-haired elf. "You need to be quick on your toes to react, or else hide so they don't see you until you're already about to cut them apart."
[21:50] <Kotono> Mirima flicks her blade clean of glittering light, "That was just a warm up test. It played perfectly to our Graceflu Blow," she says, nodding with Afina. "You have to act quicker. Grace is nothing if you haven't begun ot move."
[21:50] <Jaela> "I don't know. If we are criticizing the style, I always thought something ever since I sparred with Elrisa."
[21:50] <Kotono> With a moment's smiling thanks to Jaela before bowing her head a moment, "I know. I'm not Elrisa, yet," she confesses, "Hm, what is it?"
[21:51] <Jaela> "It just feels that a moment's hesitation or being taken by surprise is something you can't afford. So it feels like it would be best when there are two practicioners working in tandem."
[21:52] <Kotono> "We fought in groups, back in the war," Mirima nods agreement, "Some of us learn to compensate for it, like I have. We usually pair up with the ones who haven't. It's not perfect, an a perceptive foe can take advantage, but it helps."
[21:53] <Kotono> Misalea nods slowly, "I understand," she says, "I'll look into obtaining those skills as well," she vows, rather quietly.
[21:53] <Afina> "For now take advantage of any cover you can to conceal yourself so you can get the drop on foes even if they've spotted the rest of us," Afina suggests, fluttering back to rejoin Canderella.
[21:53] <Jaela> "The alternative is making they pay dearly for every hit," Jaela muses. "Though it doesn't really seem to be for you. Onwards, then?"
[21:58] <Kotono> On the duo goes, leading along! As you fall in, "Thanks," Adrian murmurs, walking next to Jaela.
[21:58] <Jaela> "It's only expected," she responds just as quietly.

[23:19] <Afina> "Yes, it most likely rendered the others moot. A shame, it would have been better for you two to face more fitting battles," Afina remarks, lowering back down to the level of everyone else, her eyes squinting at the radiance.
[23:19] <Kotono> Above the coffin, you can see a tiny pinprick of light, standing out in the darkness. A soft murmur comes from it, "Has practictioners of the art finally made it this far? The Cauldron of Stars is no more."
[23:21] <Kotono> Mirima turns, "Yes," she announces, "Though I was not aware that moon was the Cauldron you speak of."
[23:22] <Kotono> "The Moon was defeated?!" THe point of light's voice wobbles terrifically, "H-how far has the art advanced to defeat the Moon?! How far to throw away the Cauldron just to reach this place!"
[23:23] <Afina> "It had help," Afina points out honestly, since it would have taken just Mirima and Misalea all day to do it themselves.
[23:23] <Jaela> "Why is it such a big deal?" Jaela decides to ask. "What was the Moon, and the Cauldron of Stars?"
[23:24] <Kotono> "The Cauldron of Stars is...was a focal point of celestial meteorites and fallen stars gathered over centuries," The voice explains, "From it, wondorous things of stars could be forged. But it was tied to the Moon, the ultimate and invincible manifestation. But...but...the Moon is invincible! It exists only to punish overweening pride that often occurs in the art!"
[23:25] <Jaela> "It overstepped its boundaries and tried to punish other arts."
[23:25] <Kotono> "Several of them," Adrian adds, "It wasn't as bad as the fiends we've fought, anyway."
[23:26] <Kotono> "It is so," Misalea agrees, "What are you?"
[23:27] <Kotono> "I-I am the crystallized knowledge needed to judge those worthy of the legacy. I can safely say you have passed the requirements of teamwork and might." It says, "If you all are worthy, I shall offer you what lies within this coffin."
[23:28] <Kotono> "It's what we came for," Mirima says, "What must we do?"
[23:29] <Kotono> "I would like each of you in turn to answer this question," The light says, "What do you fight for? What do you need strength for?"
[23:30] <Kotono> "I think only one of us truly needs to answer this," Adrian says, "We fight for a united cause." Looking to the others, "One of you want to do it? You're all so much better than I am about speeches."
[23:31] <Afina> "I fight for revenge," Afina tells the light. "I need strength to free my home from those that conquered it." It's probably not as nice as what Adrian was hoping for, so she adds, "Others may have different answers."
[23:31] <Kotono> "I fight for revenge as well. Our world was taken by Hell and the devils. We fight to free it," Adrian says.
[23:32] <Kotono> Misalea nods, "An entire world has been wronged. We have joined with Aurora to save that world and defeat Hell's machinations. Millions of souls and lives have been lost in a mad, needless war of conquest. Things must be put right."
[23:33] <Jaela> "Our cause is united, that much is true," Jaela agrees. "We're fighting to save it from Hell's invasion. But where it comes to strength, I just want to one day be strong enough to save the people in front of me."
[23:34] <Kotono> "We fight to save them and to grow stronger, and to advance the Graceful Blow," Mirima adds. "We have lost much, defeated in a war with the dwarves and cast out of our homeland. What we can do is forge new friendships and strengthen our beautiful art."
[23:34] <Kotono> "Hell has to pay," Canderella says, "You won't oppose us, will you? You understand how important this is?"

[23:41] <Afina> "Well, decide between the two of you who gets what?" Afina suggests to the two heirs.
[23:43] <Kotono> The two nod and go off a bit, talking amid each other. Meanwhile Adrian hums, "There is truth to that. With all we have to strive for, my swordsmanship has risen exponentially since I left Lifasa. This challenge would have stymied us before the invasion. It was hardly even a serious effort now."
[23:45] <Afina> "Infiltrating Magmasoul was like that as well," Afina adds, "But it made me overconfident and let me blunder into a trap at the very end, leading to this," she gestures to her brown-skinned rather than pale form. "A hard lesson."
[23:46] <Jaela> "A better lesson might be to go everywhere with friends, lest you be overwhelmed."
[23:47] <Afina> "You'd have been burnt to death, too," Afina replies. "You can't fight a plane."
[23:47] <Kotono> "Mmm-hmm," Canderella goes to sit down, leaning back comfortably. "Get one of us to go with you next time, Afina. At worst, drill one of your pixie friends with stealth, too, and use them as a support. Going alone is dangerous - I've done it for decades and I know. I've had to scrape and bow before all manner of things to save my life, when with allies it would have been no thing at all."
[23:48] <Jaela> "I don't know," Jaela muses. "I use plenty of contingencies, myself."
[23:49] <Kotono> "All this brings a point to mind, too. Look at us," Adrian taps his armored side, "Scales under there. You're a fire spirit now, Jaela was already touched by the planes and Misalea's sprouted wings. We've gotten powerful, and we're also more like the natives of the planes."
[23:51] <Afina> "All just as vulnerable to dispelling as my own magic," Afina tells Jaela. "I don't consider my transformation a blessing or an improvement in any sense," she then says to Adrian, "But it's there and has to be accepted, that's all."
[23:51] <Kotono> Meanwhile, you hear the sound of stone sliding, and a gasp from Mirima.
[23:51] * Jaela turns to look!
[23:52] <Afina> Likewise!
[23:53] <Kotono> The coffin's top has been slid open. Mirima holds it - a beautiful blade. It looks like strands of beaten gold were woven together into a blade - you can see them, yet it is also one coherent sword, both at once, seeming to dance together. Misaela has a glass orb in hand, whirling with colorful images.
[23:54] * Jaela feels it appropriate to applaud them.
[23:55] * Afina flutters over to look at the sword, admiring its craftsmanship.
[23:57] <Kotono> "Gorgeous," Mirima breathes, "I can feel it calling to me." Placing it down atop the coffin, she draws Rainwhisper. "I'd like to give this back to you as a gift, as thanks for your generousity when I was destitute." Offering it to Afina, "Give it to another or do with it what you will. It has served me well, but this blade calls to me."
[23:58] <Afina> Since she's destitute herself... "Thank you, Mirima," she lifts up the blade that's bigger than she is, holding it point towards the floor. "It'll help me craft a replacement for Hywelbane, anyway."
[23:58] <Kotono> Reaching into the coffin, Mirima withdraws a plain gold ring, "We decided Mirima would get the sword and I'd get the orb. The ring we'd like to offer to all of you to use as you see fit," Opening her palm up and presenting it to Jaela, "We only ask that you keep it and not sell it away."
[23:59] <Jaela> "We don't sell gifts," Jaela says resolutely, accepting it.
[00:00] <Kotono> "Let's return home," Mirima says, and a moment, "It's warming how this worked out for you, Afina. In my hour of need you gave to me, and in yours I gave to you."
[00:00] <Afina> "Warming... hah," Afina giggles softly, giving Mirima a quick one-armed hug of her preternaturally hot body before seperating and looking to Jaela to take them home.
[00:01] <Kotono> Mirima smiles at that, "You as well, Jaela...we need to talk when we get home," she says, "Alright?"
[00:01] * Jaela salutes the now-empty coffin, and then nods at Mirima. "Yes. But first...." And then she shifts them all back.
