#022: "Keep skipping over the treasures?"

[18:37] <Kotono> The next day the group meets with Ventos. He leads them out of Ogreheim and down a shaft. You walk for several hours in a winding and generally downwards path. The way is empty and quiet, save for occasional outposts of ogre guards. As you go down, you find it slowly gets warm. By lunch it's warm as a high-summer afternoon. You eventually come to a dead end with a large door of iron ahead. It's closed.
[18:37] <Kotono> "Listen up. Ahead is the path to Ifrit. As you were told, Shiva will be able to protect you from the heat. Questions?"
[18:38] <Santos> OOC: "Can we get ice cream after we come back?"
[18:38] <Santos> "No questions, I don't think," Santos says with a shake of his head.
[18:38] <Santos> "I have everything I need at my side," he adds, patting his new weapons.
[18:38] * Morrie decides to slip on the ring he got from the shop before they go in, just to be on the safe side.
[18:39] <Morrie> He shakes his head to the question.
[18:39] * Lehko pats Bjomolf on the side.
[18:41] * Mycol shrugs.

[18:42] <Kotono> Ventos goes to the door, taking out a golden disk. He presses it into the door. It slides apart from the center out, sheets of metal retracting back into the stone. Ahead is a hotter room, a circular room sloping down. In the center is a glowing point of red light. "Step into the light," Ventos says, gesturing.
[18:43] * Lehko straightens up and strides forward.
[18:43] * Santos does as directed!
[18:43] <Kotono> In a whirl of snowflakes Shiva appears, "I suppose I'll have to hold Ifrit's horrible habits off," she says with a flip of her hair, sauntering in the air. She begins to float and swirl around the party, as much Shiva as a whirl of snowflakes. The heat lessens around you, becoming a dull warmth and nothing more.
[18:43] <Lehko> "Thank you, Lady Shiva."
[18:44] * Lehko draws his pistols and follows.
[18:44] <Morrie> He nods and will step to the light, also thanking Shiva for her blessing.
[18:45] * Mycol shrugs again. "Isn't that what they tell you before and after you are dying?
[18:47] <Santos> "Usually they tell you to stay away from the light in those cases, actually, Mycol," Santos says with a laugh, slapping the mushboom on the back. Or what's probably the back. Hopefully he didn't slap him on the head or the butt. Who really knows with Mycol's people's and their anatomy.

[18:48] <Santos> ooc: It could also be the back of their head or their butts though! How can humans truly tell?!? =p

[18:48] <Kotono> The party steps into the light! In a rush of fire the world vanishes! You stand in a in a wide cavern. The stone is a dull, shimmering red. Heat waves cause that shimmering, warmth obscuring everything. To the left is a wall, behind you is more cave until a dead end. To the left is a small pond of lava. There's a small island within it, wherein three treasure chests sit. Ahead lies a path going on and further downward. It's warm here, but as Shiva flies around all of you, it's only warm.
[18:49] * Lehko glances at the chests.
[18:50] <Lehko> "I think we should deal with Ifrit before we go after the chests. I don't think Shiva would like our delaying and wasting her grace for it?"
[18:50] * Lehko looks at Shiva questioningly.
[18:51] <Morrie> "I think it would be best if we press on for now." He nods in agreement.
[18:52] <Kotono> "I can deal with whatever Ifrit's heat does," Shiva says contemptuously, swirling around as snowflakes. "Proceed as you please."
[18:52] <Santos> "A lot cooler than I expected it to be, given the place..." Santos says, giving a small nod of thanks towards the esper flying about, before focusing on the scene before them, and starting to head towards the path ahead and down, given the others' opinions so far.

[18:56] <Kotono> As the party steps forward, the heat distortions ahead rustle! It's like watching the stirring air contract into itself! [19:35] <Kotono> "Ifrit is as his element. He thrives on fiery personalities and overcoming challenges," Shiva declares.
[19:36] * Lehko blandly looks at Santos.
[19:36] <Santos> "Probably seeks the ability to kick ass, and not show weakness, if he's a fiery guy," Santos comments, only somewhat serious as he flicks his weapons clean of ghast guts.
[19:38] * Santos starts moving on once they're all healed back up.
[19:39] * Morrie will collect the dropped items. "Shall we move on, then?"
[19:39] <Lehko> "Sounds good to me."

[19:42] <Kotono> Thus the party moves on. Soon enough you come to a larger cavern. It is a sea of magma, stretching far! At the edge of is a stone arch, a loooooong walkway leading over the magma. Below in the magma are several little islands, hardly bigger than stepping stones. But on the furthest one, well away from the shadow of the archway leading safely over the magma, sits a pair of treasure chests.
[19:43] <Santos> "Are we going to keep ignoring treasure chests for now?" Santos asks.
[19:43] <Morrie> "I think that to be the safest plan." He nods.
[19:43] * Lehko shrugs.
[19:43] * Santos nods and keeps moving then!

[19:46] <Kotono> Thus the party continues deeper in. The archway is long, a good twenty minute walk over a vast sea of magma. It boils lazily below, great big bubbles slowly rising until they pop. When they do, great waves of heat come up to battle all above! Yet when they reach the party, Shiva's dance turns it into nothing worse than the heat of summer. But at last you see the far shore, the arch beginning to
[19:46] <Kotono> descend and meet up with it.
[19:49] <Morrie> "I am impressed at the size of this place." He looks around, thanking Shiva again.

[19:52] <Kotono> At the far shore are stairs going down. Past them is a wall with a red, wooden door leading further within.
[19:53] <Lehko> "Ifrit has a house?"
[19:53] <Santos> "Guess so. Anybody want to put on that cursed armor by the way, before we go knocking?" Santos jokes.
[19:54] <Morrie> He shakes his head, looking at the door.
[19:56] <Santos> "Yeah, Lehko would probably try to be the hero again and ruin all the work. Not worth bothering with it," Santos says, as he kicks at the door. "Yo! Ifrit! We're here to kick your ass and show you how awesome we are! Open up, man!"

[19:58] <Kotono> The door is kicked! At this is explodes open, sending Santos back! Four regular bombs are ahead, and behind them? It's huge! A huge red humanoid, as big as an ogre! It carries no weapon but its fists, cracking them as it grins widely. It has a snow-white beard, all muscle otherwise. "Howdy there," it drawls, "I'll offer your bones to Ifrit's blazes!" OOC: Init.
