Winter's fury is beginning to abate to the first signs of spring - today is a day that's more like a cool fall day with plenty of sunshine. It just so happens that you're all over at the Missus's house for a social lunch. The party members, Myann,
[18:24] <@Kotono> the Missus, Robert and a few other friends are about, sharing and talking. A spread of wild deer in sauce, nuts, berries, mushrooms, some boiled greens and biscuits is before the party. As they eat, "...and that's why the zygraats aren't allowed to perch on top of the barn."
[18:25] <@Kotono> Robert finishes the story with a laugh, echoed by a few others. In the meantime, Em rushes into the room. She's panting a bit, hands on knees as she stands there.
[18:26] * @John is quick to note Em's presence! "Something wrong?" And those are his first words ever spoken to her!
[18:26] <@Kotono> "Huff...huff...." Em pants, "Spring...
[18:26] <@Kotono> OOC: Gah.
[18:26] <@Kotono> "Huff...huff...." Em pants, "Spring..."
[18:27] <Feather> "Lizards? Ants?"
[18:27] <@Kotono> The Missus pauses, a forkful of venison put down. "Em, what is it? Catch your breath and speak properly."
[18:28] <@Kotono> "Huff...huff..." A few moments pass as Em catches her breath. "The healing spring. It's boiling!"
[18:29] <@Kotono> Myann takes another bite of her food before putting it down, grabbing a biscuit in each hand and standing up. "At least it had the good graces to wait until we healed," she remarks.
[18:29] <Feather> "Uh. Yeah, better take a look?" Feather says, grabbing his swords and heading over.
[18:30] <@John> "Yeah... anyone got any cold magic?" John asks, getting up to follow, though he doubts they can do anything.
[18:30] <@Kotono> "Oh hells," Robert agrees, "Em, you stay here while the menfolk go take a look."
[18:30] <Gildas> Gildas nods to the others. "I might be able to do something. We shall see."
[18:32] <@Kotono> With that, the party plus Robert go to take a gander. On arriving, you find Tindas already there. Several zygraats are flying above the spring while he watches it, arms crossed. The spring is bubbling slowly - less a boil and more a gentle burst every few seconds, here and there.
[18:33] * Feather looks through for any foreign magics!
[18:33] * @John dips a hand in!
[18:33] <@John> Or a finger, to be safe...
[18:36] <@Kotono> There's no foreign magic about. The water is warm. Just a bit warmer than a comfortable bath, tinging into being a bit too warm.
[18:38] <@John> "S'not boiling," he says, loathe as he is to correct Em. "S'quite nice actually."
[18:39] <Gildas> "Hm... I wonder if it's just something natural that happens from time to time?" He asks aloud. "Or... well, we didn't change anything down there... but we could always go take a look at the stones to be safe, if we decide to."
[18:39] <@Kotono> Myann comes over and does the same, swishing her hand in. "It's a little too warm for my tastes."
[18:40] <Feather> "We made the spring," Feather reminds Gildas. "Ain't nothing natural about it. Wanna swim down tomorrow and take a look?"
[18:42] <Gildas> "We didn't make the stones, though." He says. "If it's still like this, we may as well."
[18:42] <Feather> "Right, then. At least, whatever it is, gotta be happening down below."
[18:43] <Gildas> He nods. "Agreed."
[18:47] <@Kotono> OOC: So what's your plan, y'all?
[18:48] <Gildas> OOC: Wait until tomorrow, see if it's still like that. If so, swim down and check things out? I'll change a few spells around for it.
[18:48] <Feather> OOC: spells to calm waters, spells to endure elements, spell for water breathing?
[18:49] <Gildas> OOC: Sure, I can do those.
[18:53] <@Kotono> OOC: Anyone going to watch or check on the spring or just going to leave it?
[18:53] <Feather> OOC: Let's say we check back once an hour or so? Or Hylath could do it if he likes.

[19:01] <@Kotono> A few hours pass. For Feather, he just happens to be sitting in the back yard and soaking up the sun. Myann lays in the grass, in panther form. Mushrooms grow around her, a colorful sea of them as she naps. A loud whistle shatters this reverie as Tindas trots up, "Feather," he calls, "Hylath wants you all at the spring. Something came up from below.
[19:02] <Feather> "Thanks! Let everyone know?" Feather asks, moving over to pat Myann's side. "Time to go do the meet and greet."
[19:07] <@Kotono> Myann rises and goes to do just that. Soon the party meets at the spring. Hylath is there as is another. It looks like a dwarf on first glance - but is a ruddy red color save for orange hair and beard. It wears sturdy looking clothes of black rock of some sort, that seems far too supple for stone. It's waving its arms about at Hylath, speaking in words you don't understand.
[19:08] <Feather> "Hello there!"
[19:09] <@John> "Alright?" John greets the gesticulating dwarf. "Didn't know dwarves could swim."
[19:09] <Gildas> Gildas nods in greeting as well.
[19:10] <@Kotono> "Hello?" Myann asks, "Hi there?" But your greetings in common just get more arm waving, this time at the party. The dwarf looks annoyed and his words sound it.
[19:10] * Feather points to himself and says "Feather." He then repeats it with the others, starting with Myann, and finally points at the dwarf.
[19:10] * @John shrugs, his expertise spent.
[19:11] <Gildas> "Well, the last time we met someone like this..." He decides to try Orcish. "Can you understand this at all?"
[19:12] <@Kotono> More waving and incomprehensible mutterings. The mutterings take a different tone now, but one you still don't understand. Sounds like an entirely different tongue. He looks up at the sky and says something, then to the party and says something again.
[19:12] <Feather> "Maybe that creepy kid can understand his language?"
[19:13] <Gildas> "I know there's a spell to understand the language of others, even if you don't speak them yourself... but It's beyond my knowledge."
[19:15] <Gildas> He looks over at Myann. "Do you think you could try? Or perhaps we could ask Eltia?"
[19:16] <@John> "Maybe the kobolds'll know it if he's from underground," John suggests.
[19:18] <Gildas> He nods to Gildas. "That's an idea."
[19:18] <Gildas> OOC: John. Ww.
[19:18] <Gildas> OOC: wow, too
[19:22] <@John> "I'll go see if I can get one then," John says, heading off towards the hole in the ground.
[19:23] <@Kotono> "I can't manage the spell...maybe with my mantle," Myann admits, "But..." she trails off at that, "Let me see if Eltia's still around." OOC: Going to ge ta kobold, John?
[19:25] <@John> OOC: I'll go down and ask if anyone there speaks dwarven. If not then no nabbing.
[19:29] <@Kotono> As John and Myann go off, the dwarf crosses his arms, visibly sighs and points slowly to the pool. He then points to himself, then gestures all around. He then pats his stomach a few times, which is followed by taking out...a large diamond? He holds it up indifferently, taking a big bite out of it. The diamond's innards look like a fruit, down to clear droplets of juice trickling from where he

[19:30] <@Kotono> Hylath stares at that, eyes widening at the diamond - before the dwarf takes a bite out of it.
[19:31] <@Kotono> "Did he just..." Hylath turns to Feather, "Did you see that?"
[19:31] <Feather> "This is bullshit."
[19:32] <Gildas> "Wait a minute. Is he... looking for the diamonds we found in the temple, perhaps?" He looks over at Feather.
[19:32] <Feather> "Finders keepers. There was a note and everything!" Feather protests.
[19:34] <Gildas> "There was a note?" He blinks. "Or... I don't know, I'm no good at this sort of thing..."
[19:35] <Feather> "Well yeah. Take whatever you can get, something about a tragic end?" Feather shrugs. "I didn't really care, but Myann might recall."
[19:35] <@Kotono> The diamond gets another bite taken out of it, before he extends his hand out with the half eaten fruit.
[19:35] * Feather blinks, and then reaches for the diamond to try and bite into it.
[19:42] <@Kotono> It tastes fruity. Sort of like cherries with a softer edge. Despite looking just like a diamond, it's no harder to eat than any other fruit. It reminds you a little of the strange fruit from 'L.V.', albeit far lesser than those wondrous gifts were.
[19:43] <Feather> "Huh. Strange," Feather mutters as he eats more of it. "Say, Gildas, we got anything good to share? Maybe a weird mushroom...."
[19:43] <Gildas> "If the kobolds do end up knowing his language, I might take some time to learn it..." He looks over at Feather and then up. "We have the magic bread bag."
[19:44] <Feather> "Did it taste good?"
[19:45] <Gildas> "If you like bread."
[19:46] * Feather shakes his hand uncertainly. "Not on its own."
[19:46] <@Kotono> In the meantime John comes back, a kobold in tow. It wears sundark goggles, following along with John.
[19:48] <@John> "Hey, this guy says he speaks good dwarven," John says, then tells the kobold, "Ask him what he's doing up here?"
[19:52] <@Kotono> The kobold speaks in slow Common, "Me help," he says, before babbling something in dwarven. At this the red dwarf looks over and replies. This goes a few times, back and forth. "Him come from big fire hole. Climb up using magic to cold land. Strange sky up here." The kobold says.
[19:53] <Feather> "Ask him if he likes bread or mushrooms better?"
[19:54] <Gildas> Gildas opens his eyes a bit wider. "From down there...?"
[19:54] <@Kotono> "Down there?" Hylath echos, "My goodness, there's a lot of things down there!""
[19:55] <Gildas> "No, I... I explored it." He gestures to the side at the pool. "I flew down to where I think he came from."
[19:55] <@Kotono> The kobold nods and they exchange more words. "No know what bread is. Mushrooms only good if burning."
[19:55] <@John> "Bet he came from past that golem," John says.
[19:55] <Feather> "Gildas, looks like bread wins! Let's give him some to try?"
[19:56] <Gildas> He nods to Feather. "Can you please ask him exactly how he got here? Did he climb the waterfall?"
[19:56] <Gildas> OOC: Do you need us to actually roll the 2d6 for the bag in this case?

[19:59] <@Kotono> The dwarf further inspects the bread before nodding and popping it into his mouth. He chews slowly before shrugging and exchanging words with the kobold. "He say it like cold dessert. Strange magic but not poison, he thank for that."
[20:00] <Feather> "Makes sense. It's no problem. So, uh, why's he here? Visiting, or something more?"
[20:06] <@Kotono> Meanwhile, Myann returns with Eltia. Myann is visibly angry, jaw clenched and fists balled up at her side. Eltia looks snootishly aloof, refusing to look at Myann and with a haughty glare. It's Eltia that breaks the silence, "I hear you have someone who can't communicate?"
[20:06] <@Kotono> The dwarf and kobold babble back and forth, "Exploring," The kobold reports, "See what past hole."
[20:07] <@Kotono> OOC: Gah.
[20:07] * Feather grins at her. "Not anymore!"
[20:07] <@John> "S'okay, this guy's got it covered," John says.
[20:07] <@Kotono> The dwarf and kobold babble back and forth, "Exploring," The kobold reports, "See what past hole." The kobolds listens to more and waver, "Followed most magic. Strong magic in solid steam. Says steam solid, don't get it."
[20:08] <Gildas> He looks at Myann and Eltia and raises an eyebrow before turning back to the conversation. "So he came up just like we went down..."
[20:08] <Feather> "Hey, are there lots more back where he came from?"
[20:10] <@Kotono> "Not anymore then? Fine." Eltia says, giving Myann a chilly glare. Myann returns it, the two women locking eyes, before Eltia turns and walks off.
[20:11] <@Kotono> More babbling back and forth, "Lots. Big castle on the seashore and the farms."
[20:11] <Gildas> "There's a sea? Down there?" Gildas blinks.
[20:12] <Feather> "Oh! Do they wanna trade?"
[20:12] <@Kotono> Yet more babbling. "Sea. Hot sea. La-va?" The kobold struggles with it, "Magma. Lava. Lava sea." So he concludes, again talking. "Wants magic."
[20:12] * Feather pulls Myann a bit aside since Gildas clearly has this covered, asking, "So what's with you and Eltia?"
[20:13] * @John listens in on that conversation rather than the dwarf one too!
[20:14] <Gildas> Gildas rubs his chin and comes closer. "'Wants'? I mean... is he searching for magic? Learn magic? Is he adventuring?" He frowns to the kobold. "Sorry, I will slow down."
[20:20] <@Kotono> Feather gets Myann aside, "Nothing, she's just being a...an unpleasant person," Myann says sourly, "Just like a slinking little female dog."
[20:21] <Feather> "Didn't you get along fine last week?"
[20:21] <@Kotono> A lot more back and forth, the dwarf looking over at the obvious angry Myann. The kobold replies, "Woman about to get angry. Dwarf say angry women bad, like falling into sea off cliffs. Talk where safer?"
[20:22] <@John> "Yeah, how about you two come inside?" John offers, hoping he catches some juicy details before they go inside but not wanting to be overly rude by ignoring the request.
[20:23] <Gildas> "I'll take them if you want to keep an eye for any more of his friends." He smiles to John.
[20:23] <@Kotono> "Last week Eltia wasn't being an arrogant cow," Myann snaps, "Oh, I go up to her to ask for help, and she's just sitting around. You know what she tells me? Can it wait a minute!"
[20:24] <@John> "Figure he'd know if more are coming," John says, heading towards the tavern.
[20:24] <@Kotono> OOC: Going to head inside, y'all?
[20:24] <@John> OOC: yeah
[20:24] <Gildas> OOC: It looks that way.
[20:24] <Feather> "Well, that just ain't neighbourly!" Feather agrees. "We come by for help, don't we? That's important."

[18:05] <@Kotono> Everyone heads into the tavern. Samuel is there minding tavern, providing drinks to all once they come in. The red dwarf looks oddly at the cup of beer, poking it with one finger.
[18:06] * @John takes a drink, hoping the dwarf will figure it out. Aren't they supposed to be notorious drinkers?
[18:08] <@Kotono> The dwarf's finger lights aflame. The ale quickly evaporates into steam, which the dwarf sucks in with one great big gulp of air. After that he and the kobold jabber back and forth, "Makes strong steam." the kobold reports.
[18:10] <Gildas> "I suppose that does make sense..." Gildas remarks. "Still, though, is he here because he sensed strong magic?"
[18:11] <@Kotono> "Steam?" Myann murmurs before drinking her own ale. Her brows furrow at that and she gets a distinctly distracted look.
[18:11] <@Kotono> More jabbering. "Path of strongest magic. Wants to find strange above magic."
[18:13] <@John> "He just came out of it, didn't he?" John asks, gesturing back towards the lake.
[18:13] <Gildas> "Strange? So he's looking for something specific, or... does he just want to experience what magic is like up here?" He asks.
[18:15] <@Kotono> Yet more back-and-forth. "Wants magic items. Can trade."
[18:15] <Feather> "Let's hear what he has to offer?"
[18:16] <@John> "Oh! I've got something he might want," John says, getting up and going back to his house to get his fiery stone staff. That should be right up a fiery dwarf's alley!
[18:16] <Gildas> He nods to Feather. "We've certainly found our fair share."
[18:19] <@Kotono> As John goes off to do that, the dwarf reaches into his clothes. He comes out with what looks to be a glass bottle with roiling lava inside. After more conversation, "Fireheart draught. Make strong and brave."

[18:20] * Hatbot --> "Feather rolls 1d20+14 spellcraft and gets 29." [1d20=15]
[18:21] <@Kotono> This potion grants the imbiber increased strength, constitution, resistance to fire and massively increased bravery. However, it looks to be brewed for creatures used to hotter temperatures. It'll do some damage going down.
[18:22] * @John comes back, toting a staff made of black stone. "Ask him if he wants this?" he asks the kobold, demonstrating by igniting the ends and spinning it around (carefully!).
[18:23] * Feather nods slowly. "Seems like the sort of think to drink with fire resistance cast, but it'll give that in turn? Kind of a waste there."
[18:25] <@Kotono> More back and forth, "Made for warmer places," the kobold says, as the dwarf looks to the staff.

[18:26] <@Kotono> He rubs his chin and takes out a gold ring set with a large black stone. The surface of the stone seems faintly jiggly.
[18:26] <@John> That looks pretty ugly. "What's it do?" he asks leerily, leaning over.
[18:27] <@Kotono> More translations comes. "Makes body liquid stone,"  he reports back. "Ooze stone."
[18:28] <Gildas> "Like a shapeshift, almost... Curious."
[18:28] <Feather> "Oozes are pretty hard to kill," Feather says in approval.
[18:28] <@John> "Oh that's awful! Forever?"
[18:28] <@Kotono> More back and forth as Myann continues to frown, muttering something under her breath. Meanwhile the kobold replies, "Temporary. Times per day. Minute."
[18:29] <@John> "Mmmm. Dunno. It is pretty ugly looking. Ask him if he's got anything else?"
[18:30] <@Kotono> The dwarf hms, shrugs and takes out another glass jar. This one is filled with a golden liquid, shimmering in the light.
[18:31] <@John> "Looks good so far... what's it do?"
[18:33] <@Kotono> There's a loooooooong conversation back and forth. What the kobold finallys ays is, "Potential. Makes secret talents come out fast."
[18:33] <Gildas> Gildas digs around a bit and withdraws the ant figurine from so long ago and rolls it in his hands a bit.
[18:34] <@Kotono> The ant gets a look as well.
[18:34] <@John> "Eh, I'll take it," he says, dousing the staff and putting it on the table before the dwarf.

[18:45] <@Kotono> The ant statue is taken and held. In th emeantime more babbling as, "Rare draught. Made from the mind flow." OOC: Does the ant do anything held?

[18:47] <@Kotono> On holding the ant, the dwarf nods and offers the ring instead.
[18:49] <Gildas> He nods as well and takes the ring! "If he has anything else he ever wants to try trading with us, he's welcome to do so."
[18:51] <@Kotono> The ring is taken and the figurine handed over. The figurine immediately springs to life, a mindant standing in the tavern! "Shit!" Samuel speaks up and stumbles back, while the dwarf looks unconcerned. He goes right up to it and takes out several hunks of burning brimstone, whistling as he begins to forcefully embed it into the ant's body. The ant doesn't seem the slightest bit unnerved by

[19:02] <Gildas> He nods to the dwarf. "Actually, you know what? Do we even know his name? Does he have one?" He rubs his chin and looks at the others.
[19:03] <@Kotono> More conversing, "Makinan." The kobold finally says, "Makinan Yurup Cres."
[19:04] <@John> "John," John points at himself and hopes that's self explanatory.
[19:05] <Gildas> He nods to the dwarf. "Makinan." He considers and takes out a few random potions of his own and places them on the table. "I don't know if he'd care for any of these, but they might be of interest to him since they're from up here and not down below."
[19:05] * Feather already introduced himself before and asked for the dwarf's name a few times, so he's just happy they are now past that awkward part of meeting a new person.

[19:16] <@Kotono> There's more back and forth, the dwarf nodding after before packing up his things and going. As he does the kobold replies, "Going back now before magic gone."
[19:18] <@John> "Bye!" John says, walking him back to the lake.
[19:18] <@Kotono> As he goes Myann speaks up, "I've been talking to the mushrooms down below," she remarks, "Trying to learn more about down there. Unfortunately, mushrooms just don't understand much."
[19:20] <Gildas> "I think... well, we know it's very hot down there." He says. "But I think that's about all we know... And I wonder if he was atypical or just a regular person."
[19:22] <@Kotono> "He's gifted with magic," Myann remarks as the party follows back to the lake, "That makes him atypical."
[19:24] <Gildas> "And he didn't even try to kill us." He says with a nod.
[19:24] <Feather> "Doesn't happen that often, does it?"
[19:25] <@Kotono> Soon enough the party returns the lake. The dwarf wastes no time in jumping in, the water boiling as he swims down and out of sight. Once gone Myann hms, "Not often enough. Perhaps one day we can go down there ourselves? That mind flow he mentioned intrigued me."
[19:25] <Gildas> "I think we could. It was hard to breathe going down there, but with enough magical preparation I think we could do it."
[19:26] <@John> "Yeah, if it makes potions like that it must be good," John agrees.
[19:26] <Feather> "Maybe when the heat stops bothering us?"
[19:26] <@Kotono> "What all did that draught do? I was interested in it, but you beat me to it," Myann comments.
[19:27] <@John> "Made me better at stuff I can already do," John says. "Like, better at climbing and jumping, and I reckon I can get the jump on people better when I go invisible now too."
[19:30] <@Kotono> OOC: Okay, are we all ready to move along now?
[19:30] <Gildas> OOC: Indeed
[19:33] <@Kotono> The next day everyone is meeting with Robert. It's a discussion about the coming spring and planting season. It's not here quite yet, but soon enough. Sometime after lunch, you're pulled away by a kobold messenger. The party meets with him inside, the kobold wearing goggles and with a squinty, pained look, "Shaman Ten'ten'tal has a message," he reports.
[19:34] <@John> "What's it about?" John asks the obvious question.
[19:35] <@Kotono> "The ants," The kobold reports, "Ants took all the shinies they could and tore down the paths leading into their hive," he remarks, "Big cave ins!"
[19:35] <Feather> "So it's a win for us? Sorta?"
[19:37] <@John> "Guess they don't want any more trouble?" John shrugs, figuring that's fair enough.
[19:38] <@Kotono> "Shaman is still investigating, but it is a win. More information will be passed on." The kobold says. "Questions?"
[19:38] <Gildas> "Have the lizards left you all alone recently?" He asks.
[19:39] <Gildas> He looks at the others. "I'd worry that cave-ins might make them more aggressive or something."
[19:41] <@Kotono> "No problems there yet," The kobold says.
[19:42] <Gildas> He nods. "Good to know."
[19:43] <Gildas> "Hopefully the ants will just stay away from you all for now."
[19:44] <@Kotono> "I hope so," Robert adds as he comes out, "Took a five minute break, wanted to talk to all of you."
[19:45] <@John> "Yeah?" John asks, figuring they've got all they need from the kobold message.
[19:48] <@Kotono> "Planting season for spring is coming up. There'll be a lot of work and Rashen is going to get started with more building," he remarks, "Frankly, I'm hoping you all can stay around for it. There's going to be a lot of work for everyone."
[19:48] <Feather> "Sure thing."
[19:49] <Gildas> "Oh, that reminds me. Since that's going to start, I'd like to try and see if I can help things grow a bit. I'd like some practice with that sort of magic... if that's all right with you." He looks at Robert.
[19:51] <@John> "Don't worry, I grew up on a farm so I know my way around," John says, actually looking forward to going back to some of that old work for a bit.
[19:56] <@Kotono> "By all means!" Robert says to Gildas with a grin, "So get ready for it, it'll be a good, hard season of work."
[19:56] <Gildas> He nods with a smile.
[19:57] <@John> "Looking forward to it!"
