Alright, as mentioned in the other thread, I've made a channel #SR-boardgames. I'll idle there if there's questions or whatnot. I've also put a tentative list of games for future weeks in the topic. Feel free to also suggest games there (or here).

Next, I am suggesting DIXIT for next week. This is a visual guessing game for 3-6 players, where cards are played each with a unique fantastic/colorful image displayed. It's a pretty simple game, rules are in spoiler below. Should run less than an hour probably.

Spoiler: ShowHide
In the game, each player becomes a 'storyteller' during a round, and they select one of their six cards in hand to play, and then describe it in some fashion, but hopefully it isn't TOO obvious a description (reason explained further below). The other players will then play their own card into the mix, something that hopefully also evokes the description.

The cards are then shuffled, and displayed, with each player outside of the storyteller trying to guess which one the storyteller played.

If anybody gets the storyteller's card, the storyteller gets 3 points (only once, even if more guessed it). Any player that got it will also get 3 points.

HOWEVER, if the description was too good and everyone got it? Or if it was so vague that nobody got it? Storyteller gets 0 points, and everybody else gets 2 points.

Meanwhile, if a player guesses incorrectly and they select another player's card, then the card's owner gets 1 point for each guess made towards his card.
As an example, in the screenshot above, White played the 2nd card, and used the description "Test your luck, how bad can it go?" The other five players played the card they thought best fit that, and then cards were revealed and they voted.

The player of the 3rd card lucked out, since as a group of gamers, everybody knows how dice luck works. His card tricked 3 people into voting for him, and he meanwhile guessed correctly. The blue player wasn't tricked, and thought it was too obvious, but he still guessed incorrectly, and picked...say, Red's card.

At the end of that round, White would get 3 points and move his bunny to 6 points.

Yellow, Green and Blue get no points since they guessed incorrectly and their cards were not picked.

Red gets 1 point thanks to Blue.

Pink meanwhile made out like a bandit. He gets 3 points for guessing right, and 3 more points due to people picking his card.
I don't have any time suggestions, so I'll just shoot out Friday (May 2) at 7pm PST / 10pm EST. I would say Saturday again, but Neph might be running a tabletop game then, and I don't want to promise that date until he confirms otherwise.

If you're interested, post when you can make it. If you can't make it, then post when you can.
<Cidward> God willing, we'll all meet in Buttquest 2: The Quest for More Butts.

That Friday's out for me, I work. Maybe if it ends up being on Saturday. If not, no big, I'll catch the week after.

<Afina> Forever.

<Yuthirin> Afina, giant parasitic rainbow space whale.
<IronDragoon> I mean, why not?

*nods* Neph said his game was going to be on Sundays, but he specifically called out May 3rd for first session, and I only just noticed that falls on Saturday. I -think- it was a typo, but I don't want to promise a night I can't be there if I'm hosting.

Alternatively, can always have something else on Saturday by someone else.

I'm done for this, though 6 pm may be cutting it close.  I might miss the first round and be in for the second.

Definitely want to be there this week though :)
Well, Goodbye.

More fresh blood is required. Where are the blood sacrifices?

Reminder: SR Board Game Night is tomorrow.

As nobody but Drac's posted availability, I'll push back time, so it'll start 7pm PST / 10pm EST instead.

For fun and giggles, I made a game box of Love Letter. Except the game box is SPECIAL. It's based off a re-theme I made of Paper Mario... Because I thought it'd be funny that way.

If nobody else shows up (or if people want to play that for a bit before Dixit), we'll play that first. It's a 2-4 player game, so if we get 5-6, we move over to Dixit.

So as stated above, this is a 2-4 player game involving just sixteen cards. Of which one is hidden away, so really it's fifteen! Not a lot of time consuming gaming you can do with just that. =)

Theme (in the case of this re-theme anyway):
- Peach has gotten kidnapped again!
- Whomever saves her gets delicious cake!
- Whomever eats enough cake is the envy of all her other would-be saviours!

At the start of the game, when the first round begins:
- Sixteen cards are shuffled, one is hidden, and then everyone takes a single card into their hand. Each card represents a character from the Mario universe.
- To save the princess, you must either knock out each of your competitors from the round (to prevent them from bumbling your heroic efforts, of course!); OR you must have the highest value card at the end of the round once the stack of cards is finished. In the case of a tie, the highest total value discard pile is the victor.
- After gaining X cakes, you are declared the victor of Love Letter, the Paper Mario retheme! (X = 7, 5, or 4; depending on number of players = 2, 3, or 4 respectively)
- During your turn you draw one card, then discard another. As you discard a card, it's character's effect takes place.

In order of rank from highest to lowest:

 • Peach: The princess had rescued herself and made her way into your hand! Why did you discard her, you fool? Now she's been recaptured, and there's no way you're getting ANY cake that round! You're out of the round, fool!
 • Mario: The moustachio'ed Player 1, the big hero! He can't stand to see a damsel in distress or his little bro in danger. If you hold Peach, Daisy or Luigi in your hand, then Mario will have to sacrifice himself to the discard pile... Of course, sometimes he'll sacrifice himself for even a lowly Koopa if he thinks it has a good chance of saving the Princess. And that's why he's the hero.
 • Luigi: Ah, cowardly Luigi, the often underappreciated Player 2. Most companions don't tend to stick around him, he's just no Mario, right? Still, he does his best, and he never fails to impress someone with an act of heroism. One companion might abandon him, but another will take his place.
 • Daisy: Peach's friend doesn't have much left, not even political power. But while she's around, she'll put her royal mettle to the test and command others to go forth and save her friend! Of course, if they're not the right plumber or koopa for the job, she'll send them packing and find someone she thinks can tough it out.
 • Bowser: The invincible King of the Koopas! His shell is the toughest thing this side of the Mushroom Kingdom, and while he's holding back enemies, no one can touch his companions! A most terrible foe, yet a most reliable ally!
 • Kamek: Bowser's top advisor will spy on those bumbling fools that stand in his master's way. And his master is the strongest, thus his magic is infallible! With one spell, the weakest between his companion and another's will fall out of the race!
 • Kammy: Though not in Kamek's level when it comes to magic, this magikoopa is a top notch spy. She'll scope out the competition and only Bowser himself could stop her magic from working.
 • Minions: Koopas and Goombas, once mere minions...now still minions. But minions with a job! They never turn back, and only move forward. When they call out a target, they move unerringly towards them and take them out...and if they're not in place, well they might just walk off a ledge.

Cards have more obvious directions, but I felt like writing flavorful descriptions. =)

We started a bit late, but went through a game of Love Letter (now titled Mario Cake by Drac) and then a game of Dixit.

Ranmilia and Bowser made a formidable team in the first game, crushing most of the competition. For a brief moment, it looked like Drac and I might catch up, only to be drowned in the King of Koopa's flames! Owies, that was a spicy meatball~

The second game of Dixit we were joined by Wyld, and though Ran enjoyed an early lead while I fumbled away my first few turns, I made a comeback and gained a formidable lead in the midgame. Ran managed to foil me a few times and almost caught up, but at the end he was left one step short from a double victory this game night, and Dixit went to me.

Next week will probably be Forbidden Island. As always, a list of possible future games are listed in #SR-boardgames topic. Suggest games you want to play, even ones we've already played. I'll generally try to put new games into rotation until I run out of games or people start suggesting stuff.

Also, for the forseeable future, games will be played on Zun Tzu. If this program will not work for you and you're interested in a game night, let me know. I'll see if the game can be put up on VASSAL instead, or if there's another online place to play.
