<Kotono> ----
<Kotono> After leaving behind the strange island of the harp, the party has downtime. A chance to rest, recover and get things together. At last a new destination looms. A city painted white, lying on a massive plain that stretches into shadows. The buildings are generally square and functional, save for towers of various colors rising from the roofs of broad, flat buildings. These towers go up dozens
<Kotono> of stories, connected by thin, transparent walkways. "Here we are," Old Kamhoff waves, as Bolethon guides the ship into the harbor. Jetina's not here at the moment - sleeping, still not quite fully over her ordeal.
<Pepo> Pepo just lays on his side on one of the steps, not bothering to climb up anywhere to take a look at their new port this time.
* Veren stifles a yawn and blinks away some irritation and sleep, shifting his shoulders a bit to works some stiffness out.
<Moore> "Wow!" Moore exclaims with a look around at all the colorful towers. "This must've taken them a long time to put all of this together..."
<Lucy> "Excellent!" Lucy exclaims, for once there on the deck from the time the first announcement had been made. "Where should we go first? Oh, certainly to sell what we don't need. But we simply must scout out the local academy-- ah, and there is the matter of that temple. So many things, so little time...."
<Kotono> "Yeah, yeah," Kamhoff agrees to Moore. "You can get the full ego fluffing tour if you want to."
<Veren > "How about closest to furthest?"
<Kotono>  Clearing his throat after, "So, what are all of you going to do?" OOC: Sec, feel free to chat out an agenda in the meantime.
<Moore> "You've been here a few times I take it, Mister Kamhoff?" Moore asks with a smile. "They didn't appreciate your straight-forward attitude?"
<Lucy> "No, no, that's just silly. First we get the chores out of the way, so selling the goods and the visit to a temple. Perhaps we could split up for those? But afterwards we simply must explore the local magely society!"
<Veren > "Some equipment, perhaps? Other than that, I have no specific plans."
<Lucy> "I really must pick a spellbook while I'm here...."
<Kotono> OOC: Okay, what do y'all want to do here? Any plans? What about you, Pepo, since you're being all kitty quiet?
<Moore> "I don't mind helping Miss Jetina with the orb issue, but I would also love to take a look at what they're offering. I can help with selling things too if you all want."
<Pepo> Rousing himself at last, Pepo walks amongst the group, rubbing his head against people's shins and purring fitfully. 'I am interested in what food is here,' he announces, thinking a change in diet overdue.
* Veren nods.
<Lucy> OOC: Like I said, I want us to get stuff out of the way. I presume we can sell things and purchase some basics off screen, so let's visit the temple and then go for the MAGES?
<Veren > "Supplies are a must."
<Veren > OOC: That works for me.
<Kotono> OOC: Sales can go without incident, post any that haven't been posted. Likewise, post any purchases now, y'all. At least for non-magical stuff. If y'all are in the market for magical goods, that'll need to be done IC.
<Veren > OOC: I don't think I have enough cash to afford anything I want, magically.
<Moore> OOC: I don't need any magical anything I don't think.
<Kotono> OOC: Okay then. Next up is...
<Kotono> roll 1d100
<Serith> Kotono roll for Serith < 12 > 12 [d100=12]
<Kotono> There's a fair few shops near the docks. Nothing magical - just a wealth of mundane and unremarkable goods here, though many of high quality. The party just happens to be inspecting a fruit stand ran by a short, beardless dwarf - his chin is a mass of scars and burns, and his eyes are gone in favor of two metal orbs - when....OOC: Spot check, all.
<Lucy> roll 1d20+21
<Serith> Lucy roll for Serith < 34 > 12 [d20=13]
<Veren > roll 1d20+13 Perception
<Serith> Veren roll for Serith < 28 > 12 [d20=15]
<Moore> roll 1d20+13
<Serith> Moore roll for Serith < 21 > 12 [d20=8]
<Pepo> roll 1d20+17
<Serith> Pepo roll for Serith < 25 > 12 [d20=8]
<Kotono> The dwarf picks up a banana, "See this here? It's from Rapai, preserved and ready to eat." Meanwhile, Lucy, Veren and Pepo note a short, stumpy and fat man pass by. His hand deftly darts out, going into Veren's side pocket. OOC: Act, y'all. Veren, you can grab him or whatever since you caught him hands in pocket.
<Moore> Moore is apparently far too engrossed in this banana thing. "Oh, wow, preserved fruit? That sounds awesome! Where is Rapai, exactly...?"
* Veren reaches to grab ahold of the man, and draw a blade to hold to him! This is becoming habit.
<Lucy> Lucy's hair lashes out to snatch the thief, animated by magic!
<Pepo> Pepo considers setting the man on fire but that just seems like too much effort.
<Lucy> roll 1d20+12 grapple CMB, fearsome grapple
<Serith> Lucy roll for Serith < 21 > 12 [d20=9]
<Kotono> "You see, Rapai i-" The dwarf stops at all of that, Veren having a dagger to the man's throat and Lucy's hair wrapping up his arms and legs. He yelps like a cat who just had his tail stepped on, "Aagh!" His hand falls out of Veren's pocket, a few coins from it clattering to the ground.
<Lucy> "How terribly naughty of you!"
<Moore> "Holy moley!" Moore says as he turns to the others. "Oh, not again!"
* Veren stares the man in the eyes.
* Veren moves his blade down to the man's wrist.
<Kotono> "Tongs and fire," the dwarf sighs, "Fucking idiot. Guards, we have a pickpocket! GUARDS!" he shouts, hands cupped over his mouth.
<Veren > "Explain why I should not cut your hand off."
<Pepo> 'Veren must have the look of a victim,' Pepo opines lazily, starting to lick his paw.
* Lucy tries very hard not to laugh out loud.
<Kotono> There's a bit of a commotion as people get out of the way. Meanwhile, the man stares, "Uh...fuuuuuck," he says in a defeated, drained voice. "I just tried to pickpocket a wizard and friends? Fuuuuuuuuuuck!"
<Kotono> Looking to Veren, "Y-you can't do that! I have to go to the magistrate! The magistrate!"
* Veren grunts.
<Lucy> "Is the punishment, at least, terrible enough to teach this man some sense?" Lucy inquires with the vendor.
<Veren > "I am a... Newborn. I believe I can feign ignorance well enough."
<Kotono> Soon a four-some of guards come. They have spears and swords, coming forward, "This him?" One asks, no helmet worn. He's a human with a crooked nose, telling of a previous break. His entire face is hard and stony, "The punishment's serving time as a magic tester. He'll serve off his sentence advancing the art of magic."
<Lucy> "How glorious!" Lucy says appreciatively, her hair retreating. She discreetly applies prestidigitation to it afterwards to clean it.
<Kotono> Another one - this one an elf with blotches of sea-green skin disrupting smooth brown flesh, reaches into his pocket and takes out a few scraps of paper, "Oh oh, we might have one from the diviners. Fat man, short, tries to steal and fails completely. There's a cat nearby." He looks down at Pepo, "Matches. Don't worry, we already had your trial so we can get you down there before lunch."
* Veren grunts puts his blade away, it disappearing neatly into one of the various hidden sheathes.
* Veren bends down and retrieves his coins.
<Veren > "What kind of compensation will I receive?"
<Moore> "That's... some efficient divination..." Moore comments quietly.
<Lucy> "Excuse me!" Lucy calls out brightly to the law enforcement. "More importantly, where might one go to visit the best library of the arcane and what might admittance entail?"
<Kotono> The guards search him, coming out with a coin bag, "Catch," one says, tossing it to Veren. The thief begins to yelp, but a heavy THUMP to the back of his head silences him, "He isn't going to need money for a while." OOC: Loot post, Veren.
<Moore> He leaves out the part about it not exactly being correct since Pepo isn't -just- a cat, but still...
<Pepo> 'What?' Pepo asks, looking up at the green elf. 'I am not involved in this.'
<Lucy> 'There is always a cat nearby,' Lucy offers her own thoughts to Pepo.
<Kotono> OOC: Did you speak to the elf?
<Kotono> OOC: Pepo.
<Pepo> OOC: telepathically anyway. Booming mental voice and everything.
<Kotono> "Eh?" The guardsman's reply to Lucy is interrupted, "Oh, nice trick with your familiar, ma'am," He nods respectfully, "Go to the Tower of New Knowledge," some instructions follow. "Just go in and there's people to sort that out there, ma'am."
<Lucy> "Why, thank you!"
<Pepo> It seems he really isn't involved, so Pepo goes back to grooming himself.
* Veren puts the pouch away.
<Kotono> Soon the hapless pickpocket is carried off, down the streets and away. OOC: Sow hat's next on y'all's agenda?
<Moore> OOC: I suppose the temple?
<Lucy> OOC: Temple, then TOWER
<Kotono> OOC: Sure, sec.
<Kotono> OOC: Okay. Going to go get Jetina first?
<Moore> OOC: Sure.
<Veren > OOC: Works for me.
<Kotono> Getting Jetina is without incident. She's still not 100%, but she's able to keep pace as you head along. Her steps aren't wobbly anymore and she looks around as you walk. "I feel better than I have in weeks," she declares as you head down one street, "Hopefully soon I'll be more useful than a dog."
* Lucy muses that Jetina will probably be just about as useful. It really is a versatile dog.
<Moore> "Don't worry about it, if you're sick you're sick. Not many people could've survived the ordeal you went through." Moore says, hopefully reassuringly enough to bolster her spirits.
<Pepo> 'Kamhoff's dog is very useful,' Pepo opines.
<Kotono> Ahead is a fairly square and unremarkable building. However, a pair of rings merged together, with the doors within wide open. "Yeah, it feels like this ship's gone to the dogs and cats," Jetina mutters.
<Veren > "Very useful. I would like one of my own."
<Lucy> "So do you just walk in and ask for a blessed pendant?" Lucy wonders out loud, mildly curious about the procedure.
<Veren > "A good first question."
* Veren strides towards the building.
<Kotono> "We'll go in," Jetina says, leading the party. Inside is well decorated - mostly with wood art and carvings, but there's a fair bit of other things like sculpture and paintings as well. It looks more like a museum than anything else. The back has no altar, but a large inlay in the floor of the merged rings. No one's around, but as you enter, gentle chimes play.
* Veren eyes the surroundings critically, looking for anything interesting while they wait.
* Lucy tries her utmost not to show any of the boredom she's feeling at being inside a divine magic museum. She just hopes she gets to see something unique like a blessing of a holy trinket, and then they can be on their way towards real magic.
<Kotono> OOC: Veren, make perception. Lucy, make Will.
<Veren > roll 1d20+13 Perception
<Serith> Veren roll for Serith < 33 > 12 [d20=20]
<Veren > OOC: GLORIOUS
<Lucy> roll 1d20+5
<Serith> Lucy roll for Serith < 10 > 12 [d20=5]
<Kotono> Veren can notice that there's a semi hidden door on the left wall. Not quite a secret door, more just well-made to blend in without being easily noticed. Meanwhile, Lucy feels antsy here. Things are off, wrong. It makes her skin crawl. As you stand about, an older man approaches. He has pale blue skin and no ears, but otherwise looks normal for a human. He wears mundane clothes and walks with
<Kotono> a fancy cane, despite having no limp. "Welcome to the House of Qupan." A smile twitches on his lips as he looks to each of you.
<Moore> "Salutations, sir!" Moore says with a polite nod.
* Veren memorizes the location of the door...
<Pepo> Pepo pays him little mind, just sitting with his eyes barely open.
<Veren > "Hello."
<Lucy> That certainly gets her to be more alert and pay more attention to her surroundings!
This is not the greatest post in the world, no... this is just a tribute.
