<Kotono> * Lucy shrugs. "In that case, I believe we'll be going now to look for the gem?" There doesn't seem to be any reason to stay at the shrine any longer, and so she heads out.
<Kotono> <Veren> "Is it really theirs? It's been here so long, I'll bet any true claim to it has been lost. We're the one putting our necks on the line here, to save a city we have no citizenship to. While that might be the right thing to do, how does that entitle them to ownership?"
<Kotono> > Jetina follows, "It just feels wrong to sell it out like that," she says.
<Kotono> * Veren shrugs.
<Kotono> <Lucy> "Who is selling what, now?"
<Kotono> <Veren> "He's been here a long time waiting."
<Kotono> <Moore> "For all we know, once we get the gem, we might want to keep it for ourselves anyway." Moore says.
<Kotono> * Lucy gives Veren and Moore a strange look before shrugging again. And once out, asks Pepo mentally, 'Do you think we should take a quiet look at the third floor?'
<Kotono> <Veren> "Perhaps when we return? While I am interested as well, but we're on a bit of a time table."
<Kotono> <Pepo> 'It would be ironic if the gem were up there,' Pepo admits. 'I will have a look.' And so unseen (hopefully), he slinks up the next set of stairs.
<Kotono> > OOC: I'll reply to Lucy and resolve Pepo tomorrow.
<Kotono> "Turn of phrase," Jetina says, shaking her head. Meanwhile, Pepo heads upstairs. There's no books here -  only a bedroom. Looks nice enough on a glance - table, bed, a few chairs, a bookshelf, a writing desk, a few chests. That sort of thing.
<Pepo> No sign of the gem so Pepo sneaks back down to report as such to Lucy.
<Lucy> "We search for more undead to destroy, then?"
<Kotono> OOC: Heading out then, y'all?
<Veren > OOC: I'm good with that.
<Lucy> OOC: yes
<Kotono> Thus the party heads back out. Through the snowy area around the tower and back towards the path. As they do...OOC: Perception.

<Kotono> Oh, look at that. 25ft away and 20ft up, in the branches? There's a woman, clad in tattered remnants of a dress. The sort that only hides the bare minimum and not even that. She's pretty in a wild way, with bone white hair and a feral look. My, she has some big fangs. Her red eyes are fixated on the party.  No weapon that you see, but her hands twist into claws.
* Lucy blows her a magical kiss!
<Pepo> Pepo is still hopefully hidden and doesn't do anything to draw attention to himself. He can see the others looking her way anyway.
<Moore> Moore looks up and gives a polite, if borderline wave.

<Moore> "Woah! Let's not die here everyone!" Moore calls out, bolstering everyone's spirits! Then he turns invisible! OOC: Inspire Courage, +2 to fear/charm saves and +2 attack and hit rolls.
<Kotono> OOC: Done, party boosted. Kitty.
<Pepo> Pepo sends a ray of chaos-infused fire up at the woman before blending into the shadows once more to remain hidden! Hopefully, it's a bit harder once you've just shot a big blast of fire at someone.

<Kotono> Direct hit. The woman is hit in the chest by the blast, her ruined dress and body now ablaze. She stands there, burning, before she leaps up and plunges down at Lucy. Her hands slash out for her, trying to rip her apart into ribbons.

<Kotono> The woman dives in, but Lucy's magical protections flare up. Her claws slide off them, as she lands into a roll. She ends up 10ft behind the party, snarling. In a vile phrase only Lucy understands, " Come, the restless!" She howls, amid the burning crackles of her own body. Suddenly, a great swarm of bats comes from above, surrounding all the party.

<Kotono> The bats bite at the party, dozens of minor wounds. But they're everywhere, choking and overwhelming. It's almost impossible to do anything. OOC: Each of you that's in the swarm (barring only Pepo here) need to make fort at the start of your turn as long as you're in the swarm. Veren, you're up, make fort and -1 hp for bleed damage.
<Kotono> "Aaah! Vampire!" Jetina cries out, before coughing and shooing away bats. "Get it! Smite it! Don't meet its eyes or get bit!"

<Kotono> Lucy stumbles away as  she bleeds, getting out of the worst of it. OOC: Moore, go. Fort. You're still subject to the distraction even if not the damage.
<Moore> OOC: I'm not able to switch my aura with a swift prior to taking the roll, correct?

<Moore> "Don't give up, everyone! I have a plan!" Moore calls out. OOC: We're surrounded by trees, right?

<Moore> Moore takes a breath and calls out. "Sing, my flora friends! Sing and put this creature at ill-ease!" He casts a spell onto the surrounding trees to begin emitting a high-pitched noise in order to disrupt all of the bats. Hey, if the vampire has anything to do with bats too, it might help! OOC: He's also going to switch his aura to +fort

<Kotono> OOC: Okay.

<Kotono> At this, the bats begin to wobble about. Dozens crash into each other and fall in heaps - the swarm is disrupted and in a mess. The sound's quite unpleasant to all of you, but to the bats it seems far worse. OOC: Pepo.
<Pepo> Oh, it's quite bad for Pepo as well. But he endures it so he can fire another sniping ray at the vampire, trusting chaos to turn in his favor once more!

<Kotono> Another direct hit. If only the power of chaos cooperated - but as it is, the woman is even more on fire. She's staggering, a blackened mess that still lives. Snarling with all the fury and pain she has, the vampire leaps up, dispersing into a cloud of mist that soars up into the foggy, glowing radiance that covers the forest. Meanwhile...
<Kotono> The swarm is on the ground now. It's twitching and completely disrupted, no further misery from them. OOC: Veren, go. No fort but -1 bleed damage. Swarm's still there but down at the moment.

<Kotono> OOC: She leapt up 30ft before turning to fog. You'd have to pass a perception check to tell where she is, since she blends in well now.
* Veren tries to spot the woman, hoping to at least be able to point her out to the others...

<Kotono> OOC: None, just make perception.

<Kotono> Free of the swarm, Jetina moves slightly so that she gets everyone and holds her holy symbol, "Qupan, purify the impure!" OOC: Turn undead to heal all but her. Also stops the bleeding damage.

* Lucy brushes herself off and peers into the mist....

* Lucy gets a bit more distance from the others, stopping with a tree at her back to prevent any sneakiness.

<Moore> Moore squints his eyes and looks to see if he might be able to spot the vampire in all the fogginess.

<Kotono> There she is! 40ft up and 10ft away - a cloud of mist that doesn't quite fit. It's near a tree, starting to slip in through cracks in the bark.
<Moore> OOC: Am I able to cast Glitterdust or was the perception my standard for the round?
<Kotono> OOC: You can.
<Moore> "Ah ha!" Moore calls out, pointing... then realizing he's still invisible, so he just throws a Glitterdust up and at where the foggy vampire is. "Up there, everyone!"

<Kotono> Suddenly a patch of area above is covered in glittering dust. The party can see the foggy creature, trying to slip away. OOC: Pepo.
<Pepo> Since nothing is currently threatening anyone, Pepo just moves further away from that awful racket. Sneakily of course.
<Kotono> The glittering woman slips into the cracks of the tree bark and away. That puts her out of sight and of the glitterdust. OOC: Free act for now. Swarm's disabled and the vamp's out of sight.
* Lucy looks dubiously at the tree, before deciding to just keep on going.
* Veren shakes his head at being useless in the fight, but moves to follow after Lucy... Blades still in hand, of course.
<Pepo> Pepo grabs one of the bats and swiftly kills it with a quick neck-bite for eating later before he follows along, bat dangling from his mouth.

<Kotono> Jetina heals her own wounds as she follows, "That was..." she looks down at Pepo, "...Ah, does bat taste good?"
<Veren > "This place is becoming more and more annoying."
<Pepo> 'More stringy than rat, but food is food,' Pepo responds uncaringly. Though in truth all pales before the fish he arrived here with...
<Kotono> Fortunately, from here the walk back to the sign is without incident. You can return the way to the entrance from here or go down the path to the tombland. Or go exploring the unchecked forest, if you'd like a third option.
<Lucy> "Tombs?"
* Veren shrugs.
<Moore> "I suppose we really don't have much of a choice, do we?" Moore says.
<Veren > "Towards the undead, then."
<Lucy> Nodding, Lucy starts heading towards tombland.

* Hatbot --> "Kotono rolls 1d100 and gets 10." 12 [1d100=10]
<Kotono> After about two minutes of walking, you come on a side path. The main path continues on, but there's a tight, winding footpath into the deeper forest to the side.
> "Side-trip?"
<Lucy> "Why not?"
<Moore> "Anything we can do to delay the trip to 'Tombland' is fine with me..." Moore says.
<Pepo> Pepo raises no objection.
* Veren nods and moves down the path, carefully and as stealthily as he can.
<Kotono> "So much undeath," Jetina mutters, "This entire place isn't right."
<Lucy> "I like to think we're thinning down the herd as we go."
<Kotono> The path is tight - you have to walk single file. But after about a minute, you see something in the road. Lying there is a dead body, half rotten. It wears leather clothes and has a backpack nearby. The path continues on past it.
<Pepo> Pepo pauses to eat some bat while someone assuredly loots the corpse.
<Veren > "Jetina? Is it dead?"
* Veren eyes the corpse...
<Moore> Moore wrinkles his nose. "I wonder for how long..."
<Kotono> The bat isn't very good. Stringy indeed. But at least it's meat.
<Kotono> "Looks like it," Jetina squints, "I don't detect any evil taint on it, either."
* Lucy checks for magic, just in case.
<Kotono> Something on the poor thing's hand glows with magic. Looks like an iron ring.
* Veren nods and approaches, inspecting the pack for any kind of odd trap before looking into it.
<Kotono> OOC: Perception real quick.
<Veren > roll 1d20+13 Perception
* Hatbot --> "Veren rolls 1d20+13 Perception and gets 25." 12 [1d20=12]
<Kotono> Veren doesn't find any traps. On the body is...OOC: Loot post.
<Lucy> roll 1d20+17 spellcraft

* Veren picks up the pack and holds it open for the others to look into.
<Kotono> Lucy studies the ring. Oh, that's what it is! It's a ring of total defense+1. OOC: Loot post updated.
<Veren > "Anything magical in here I should avoid touching?"
<Lucy> "The ring is kind of nice. It would certainly help avoid getting stabbed-- what, magical traps? Not really, no."
<Moore> "I think he meant if anything was cursed again." Moore says.
<Lucy> "Only one way to find out!" Lucy says brightly.
<Kotono> OOC: Taking anything, y'all? If so, post in loot.
<Kotono> Soon enough Veren has looted the body. The path continues on if you wish, or you can go back to the main path and continue on.
* Veren continues down the path!
<Kotono> The path goes on a little longer before coming to a dead end. Here there's a hole in the ground, plunging into darkness. It goes down 50ft, and those with darkvision can see there is a bottom. Several heaps of gold and treasure lie down there within sight.
<Lucy> Looking extremely dubious, Lucy checks everything in sight with Detect Magic.
<Veren > "Well I'd say that's a trap. Or a lair."
<Kotono> No good. The spell fails here - just like in the shrine.
<Kotono> "You think so?" Jetina says, "Maybe, maybe not."
<Moore> Moore rubs his chin. "Peculiar..."
<Pepo> Pepo peeks his head over. 'I see no Cerulean gems down there,' he says, dismissing it.
<Lucy> "Are you sure it's not buried under something?" Lucy muses, peering at the treasure.
<Veren > "If we can't find it here, I suggest coming back later. We'll have an issue transporting all of this if we still have to go somewhere else for the gem."
<Moore> Moore nods. "That's sensible."
<Lucy> "Fine."
<Pepo> 'Do you want to go down and look?' Pepo asks, less keen to do so himself.
<Veren > "There's enough down there that it could be hidden..."
<Lucy> "Maybe later."
* Veren nods and heads back up the path.
<Kotono> The path is taken. After a few more minutes of walking, the forest begins to thin a little bit. Ahead is a mix of trees and stone coffins. They just lie about all over, old and weathered. The path goes on ahead. There's also a faint whiff on smoke in the air.
* Lucy refreshes her Shield spell again.
<Pepo> Pepo once more takes hiding!
<Pepo> roll 1d20+34 stealth
* Hatbot --> "Pepo rolls 1d20+34 stealth and gets 38." 12 [1d20=4]
<Lucy> "We should spread out a bit," Lucy suggests, peeling off the path to the right. "That way we won't get caught in a fireball or a vampire mist or anything unsavory such as that."
<Moore> Moore starts to fly up a little bit, about 20 ft. above the party. He also resumes being invisible.
* Veren nods and moves off to the side, separating and trying to use the trees and coffins to stealth.
<Pepo> Pepo keeps on down the center since everyone's split up on either side or above of him.
<Lucy> Nodding to herself in approval, Lucy keeps her eyes open for any lurking enemies!
<Kotono> Thus the party splits up a bit and forges on. As they go...OOC: Sure, perception.

<Kotono> It's Lucy's sharp eyes that notice something as you go on. The coffins are starting to...vibrate? Very slightly, as if twitching.
<Lucy> "I realize you're eager to see someone for a change," Lucy calls out, "but the twitching coffins are like foreplay I'm not in the mood for. Why don't we cut straight to the chase?"
* Veren eyes the coffins near him and decides to find a better place to be than next to or behind one...
