Iron Dragoon

Session Start: Mon Feb 23 11:43:21 2015
Session Ident: #dunes
* Now talking in #dunes
* Topic is 'Hanna(26)Vivantha(25)>Tepen(23)>Muirfinn(21) '
* Set by Kotono on Thu Feb 19 20:14:24
<Ko-TheAgeofMechaKappafear> <Lucy> roll 1d20+21
<Ko-TheAgeofMechaKappafear> <Serith> Lucy roll for Serith < 36 > [d20=15]
<Ko-TheAgeofMechaKappafear> OOC: To refresh, this was to gather info about the manor, right?
<Lucy> OOC: Sure. Also, your nick.
<Veren > OOC: Yep. Mansion owner and how to lay claim and background and what-not.
<Kotono> The manor is owned by one Tamas DeLorian on paper, but more digging suggests that it's just an old family claim that's maintained for the sake of it.  If you wanted to lay claim to it, you'd have to deal with him or the DeLorian family. The background of Graycrest Manor looks to be that it was abandoned a dozen years ago or so. Details are scanty ,but scuttlebutt suggests a magical accident.
<Moore> OOC: Moore would suggest they at least approach Tamas first to explain they're going to clear it out. If there are any family heirlooms or something the party could recover them for payment.
<Lucy> "So how about paying Mister DeLorian a visit?" Lucy suggests.
* Veren nods.
<Kotono> OOC: Who is going then?
<Sharm> OOC: all of us?
<Veren > OOC: I figured all of us would.
<Lucy> OOC: Yes. And I'm in my human form as usual.
<Kotono> OOC: Okay.
<Moore> OOC: Just in case, Moore is going to cast Glibness ahead of this meeting as well.
<Kotono> The seven survivors go to find Tamas DeLorian. It's quite the motley party as you head to a little villa tucked away in town. It has a small lawn and a path from street to door. On doing the routine and knocking, you find a pretty elf maid opens the door. She smiles, all blonde hair and dimples. "Hello, sirs and madams," she says with just the faintest elven accent, pausing to curtesy before
<Kotono> you. "Do you have an appointment with the master of the house?"
<Sharm> Sharm hangs at the back of the group, her size looming over everyone quite nicely. She's happy to follow everyone's lead until she has a better idea of how things are ran.
<Lucy> "And a pleasant afternoon it is to you!" Lucy chirps. "I am a wizard of some renown in this fair city, and I would like to discuss a business proposition with the master of the house. Even though it is terribly rude to appear on his doorstep unannounced like this, might this be possible in his magnanimity?"
<Kotono> OOC: Make a diplo check there, Lucy.
<Veren > OOC: Can I assist?
<Kotono> OOC: If you actually speak up and add something, sure.
<Veren > "He might be interested in a proposition we'd like to make concerning an old, unused family concern of his."
<Moore> "I don't know if you've heard of us, but we assisted in the undertaking of the recent pirate attacks." Moore adds with a smile.
<Lucy> roll 1d20+21
<Serith> Lucy roll for Serith < 38 > 12 [d20=17]
<Veren > roll 1d20+3 Diplo assist/Inspiration
<Serith> Veren roll for Serith < 9 > 12 [d20=6]
<Moore> roll 1d20+21
<Serith> Moore roll for Serith < 41 > 12 [d20=20]
<Kotono> "Of course. If you'd just come in?" The maid smiles, leading you inside to a small dining room. There's only six feats around the circular table, and it's rather cramped with all of you. Little goes to perch on the back of one chair, while Jetina takes a chair. Meanwhile, Macaron sits in a corner. "The master will be with you in a moment."
<Lucy> "Thank you kindly!"
<Sharm> Sharm opts to stand in a corner so there's a seat left for the guy himself.
<Moore> Moore will just fly!
<Kotono> It's not a long wait. The woosh of white flower petals being blown on the wind fills the room, as suddenly a man appears in a burst of them. He is clad in wrapped white robes up to his neck. A slender wooden staff is held, with the top decorated with a large green gemstone. He's middle aged otherwise, with graying black hair and strong features. He sits and clears his throat, "This is an auspicious
<Kotono> meeting, no? I am Tamas DeLorian."
<Lucy> "Lucy," she responds with a smile. "A pleasure to be your guest, Mister DeLorian."
<Moore> Moore gives a polite clap to the entrance.
* Veren nods to the man.
<Veren > "I am Veren."
<Sharm> Sharm gives a grunt of acknowledgement to the flashy entrance. It's a good way to show he's not some hapless aristocrat without being overbearing about it.
* Veren watches the man for any ticks or slips of body language.
<Kotono> Jetina bows her head, "I'm Jetina Jerara of Falbard. The gargoyle is Little and the dog is Macaron."
<Kotono> "A fortuitous and blessed meeting under the stars," he goes to sit, cane resting on his lap.
<Sharm> "Stars?" Sharm asks, not having heard that word before and wondering if he mispronounced stairs.
* Veren glances over to Sharm and shrugs a bit, waiting for the man to continue.
<Kotono> "A memory of a traveler long lost,"  he says, "Glittering things under a black sky. Tiny fragments of light tossed up there that can tell and control destiny."
<Sharm> Well they're hardly under those now are they? Her curiosity sated, worthless knowledge though it is, Sharm merely gives a grunt of recognition and falls silent.
<Veren > "Mister DeLorian, we have come in regards to Graycrest Manor. There is a standing request to clear it of haunting?"
<Kotono> "Ah. Yes." Tamas frowns ever so slightly, "It is a continuing problem."
<Veren > "We understand there was a magical accident of some sort? Do you have information on it?"
<Lucy> "Quite so. I do have some experience in dealing with nasty magical mishaps," Lucy adds.
<Sharm> "Or being subjected to them," Sharm adds.
<Lucy> "And coming off stronger than ever as a result!"
<Veren > "We do have a good track record with such things."
<Kotono> "My cousin made a mistake in his research. I assure you it was fatal to him," Tamas begins, then sighs, "The simple truth is that he attempted to track the dead after they die. I know what happened in the precisest sense, but I know now he calls that manor his eternal abode. He is ill tempered towards even the most generous visitor."
<Lucy> "We could put him to rest with the utmost courtesy, Mister DeLorian," Lucy offers.
<Veren > "Is there beyond his spirit present? Or anything you specifically wish returned to you?"
<Kotono> "Yes, many things. There are many art objects, jewelry and even magical items we would like back. If it's in the house, it is our property," Tamas remarks, "So understand that if you go, it's not a dungeon to be looted."
<Lucy> "Certainly not! Rather, it would be best if we could reach a preliminary agreement and treated this as a job?"
<Kotono> "We can come to terms," Tamas agrees to that with a short nod, a few white petals drifting in the air, "What do you want for your services?"
<Lucy> "I would imagine that the mansion itself, after having served as the focus of such a deeply personal tragedy, not to mention a dangerous magical mishap, would be easily parted with?" Lucy muses. "The true question is whether a thorough job that returns all those currently lost heirlooms and magical artifacts warrants something special in return."
<Kotono> "To get to the heart of the matter, if the manor is cleansed, we can recover our property at leisure," Tamas remarks, "The goal of this should be a successful exorcism."
<Lucy> "And with as minimal damage to the contents of the manor as possible," Lucy agrees with a nod. "I understand. Being the owner, however, Mister DeLorian would be in a unique position of being able to tell just how much the endeavor is worth to him. Certainly more so than us?"
<Sharm> "So after cleansing it we'll need to defend it from potential thieves until you secure it?" Sharm asks, sounding as if this is an onerous use of their time.
<Kotono> "The manor is worth a great deal of money and should be ample compensation," Tamas smiles a little bit now, but not a nice smile. "If you do cleanse it, our recovery efforts should be swift for the sake of these practical matters. A good word in with the city guard will see to a cordon around the manor in that event."
* Veren is put on guard a bit by the turn in the smile, and watches him more closely. OOC: Sense motive to see if he's lying or leaving something out?
<Lucy> "The mansion would be host to a library, I presume?" Lucy muses, tilting her head. "A laboratory as well, belonging to a proper wizard?"
<Kotono> OOC: Sure Veren.
<Veren > roll 1d20+13+3 Sense Motive/Inspiration
<Serith> Veren roll for Serith < 25 > 12 [d20=9]
<Kotono> "A library with several rare books," Tamas confirms, "As well as multiple stocked laboratories. While much of the supplies are our property and we desire to recover them, some aren't practical or worthwhile to move and would be left." Meanwhile Veren gets a strange vibe from him. Almost...cautious, but amused at the same time.
<Veren > "Is there anything additional we should know? Are there traps or spells on anything in the mansion?"
<Lucy> "Ah, I see! Books are a passion of mine, as it happens. I'm favoring this deal if they are a part of it, Mister DeLorian."
<Kotono> "The various laboratories are enchanted with protections. I'm not certain if those enchantments remain, under the circumstances," Tamas says, eyes sliding to Lucy. "Some books can be left, as we have copies or they are relatively minor, but there are books that must be recovered."
<Moore> "I'm certain it wouldn't be an issue to make copies of them assuming the original was returned?" Moore asks.
<Veren > "Are there any specific commands to deactivate those protections?"
<Lucy> "That doesn't really work with the rarest of books," Lucy says with a frown. "I do wish to ask whether the likes of this offer had been made in any serious manner recently?"

This is not the greatest post in the world, no... this is just a tribute.
