"Sure," Jaela responds. "It'd look more authentic when we stop by that bar on our way out, and it's best to break it later than just leave it lying around here."

Let's chat with that barkeep again!

[Anastasia]

The three return to the barkeep. It's about the same as before, only the faces of the customers are different. But you can also notice there's a whole lot of quiet whispering, groups having rather intense conversations.

[Corwin]

"Hello again!" Jaela says in greeting. "Did you know that this Clinal character was a transformed devil? Boy, was I shocked!"

[Anastasia]

The barkeep looks up and does a double take, "What?" he hisses, "Lower your voice!"

[Corwin]

"Why? He's back in Hell with all his devil minion friends. You know, I hear they can't return for like a century or something, even if they can get past the shame of getting kicked off a world."

[Anastasia]

"What?!" The barkeep glares at you, "What are you talking about? You...did you...?"

[Corwin]

"I went to visit him," Jaela says, looking him over out of curiosity as she tells her story. "He tried to kill me! When he failed, he said how we should bet all our things and our souls on the outcome, and I don't really need his blackened soul but his things are certainly nice."

She tilts her head, tapping her chin thoughtfully. "You know, I think Seira said something about this? Maybe in the context of bandits? What do you think, am I mixing up my lore? So anyway! We fought. It was a very short fight. Embarrassing, really, and his shame at losing quickly was only eclipsed by him trying to run away in the end. But wouldn't you know it, he had this pentagram all primed for sacrifice and he was bleeding, so... whoosh!" Jaela throws her hands up, before spreading them slowly to her sides.

"Hellfire. Even if you're immune you still get burnt! Not a very smart move, wouldn't you say? Especially since Hell likes to punish failure, and he pretty much blundered into this on his own."

Detect Evil, let's see if all is good. Detect Magic to follow to confirm there are no enchantments and the like.

[Anastasia]

First round, no presence of evil on him or around him.

The barkeep just stares, "What...you...killed him? You killed Clinal?"

[Corwin]

"In the clearest case of self defense ever. I even brought along one of his minions around as witness!"

[Anastasia]

If you're talking about the guy you intimidated, he didn't follow you into the battle and I didn't see any mention of taking him along with you after.

[Corwin]

I'm saying he witnessed the whole thing, not that I dragged him over here after.

[Anastasia]

Okay then.

"He's dead?" The barkeep repeats, gawking openly at you.

"Extremely. He's left this mortal coil for a warmer environment," Mirima remarks.

[Corwin]

"Even devils die if you're determined enough to rid the world of them," Jaela affirms. "So here's your chance to let me know if there's an accomplice I missed!"
