Indeed, the lead bear stops growling, dropping onto four legs. But the other seven don't seem phased at all.

"Great, now can anyone calm the rest of them down?" Sylvie asks.

Calleigh is lying on her stomach. On Moonlight's head. Like an elaborate and multicolored hat. "Nobody knows how to talk to animals? Maybe they're hungry! Or we're in their territory! Oh! We could catch them some fish!"

Rosa has her shield ready, simply meeting her gaze with one of the menacing bears.

Her unrelenting gaze makes that bear step back, further breaking up the circle. Rosa slowly speaks in Celestial, "We are not your enemy and we are not prey. Leave and you won't be harmed."

The lead bear brings its hands together in a loud, meaty clap. The other bears turn to him and watch the lead bear as he retreats, and then the others follow suit.

Free act. Charming one and then a bit of intimidation worked out.

"See? Bears! And no eating or violence!"

[Anastasia]

"A newborn miracle," Sylvie drawls, looking about. "We need to find a portal to Brux. Most of the passages are where branches from two trees meet and the sky above looks like sunset instead of day."

Rosa puts aside her weapon but keeps her shield out, "How common are they?"

"Oh, they're not hard to find," Moonlight pipes up, "But a good deal of luck's involved. If you're unlucky, it can take some time."

[Yuthirin]

"Oh, I'm really lucky!"

[Anastasia]

"Then let's go!" Moonlight takes the way, stomping on ahead into the forest.

Okay, Survival check. If Tryll or Calleigh has a good score they can take the lead, otherwise you can ask someone else to. As you're traveling in untamed forestland, the going isn't easy.
