Nephrite

Moore blinks. "So please, tell us -- did something happen before we came here? Something has seemed a bit... off about all of this." He gestures at the glass. "May I ask about that?"

Anastasia

Ule stumbles to a seat, dazed. "Yes, of course," he says, voice far away. The two black robed men follow him, just behind his chair.

<Afina> Forever.

<Yuthirin> Afina, giant parasitic rainbow space whale.
<IronDragoon> I mean, why not?

Nephrite

Moore glances over at Balyss and casts Detect Magic.

"By all means, then." Moore says as he waits for Ule.

Taking 10 on Spellcraft for 47. He's mainly looking for any magic that might have been in the glass pendant or something, not necessarily 'oh they all have mage armor!' or what have you.

Anastasia

Caster level check on dispel magic.

[14:46] <Rei-chan> Nephrite rolled : 1d20+24 --> [ 1d20=14 ]{38}

Anastasia

Detect magic, excuse me. Typo.

You detect defensive magic - greater mage armor, a death ward and greater heroism. There's also a nondetection spell active, one you overcame. The broken amulet has fading magic - some sort of minor magic to calm him, along with an insidious little enchantment to keep him loyal to someone.

Moore frowns. Now they're really starting to get somewhere with this.

"Sir Ule," Moore says. "I can see what breaking that did to you. Please, why don't you start at the beginning and let us help?"

Anastasia

Make one more diplo check, +20 bonus.

<IronDragoon> I mean, why not?

Nephrite

Well in that case he'll take 10 for a nice round 76.

Anastasia

"Yes...yes..." He seems swayed by your words, "There is a spirit we rely on for divinations, one long held in a magic circle. His predictions about your aid were nothing but ruin. He spoke to me," he shakes his head, "So certain. He made me believe it. Mind-alteration, I'm sure of it now. My thoughts in retrospect bear all the hallmarks of it, since talking to him yesterday."

<Afina> Forever.

<IronDragoon> I mean, why not?

Nephrite

Moore nods. "Yes, since you're saying so... the magic in that shard -- that amulet, it contained something to make you loyal." He looks over at Balyss. "Are you thinking the same as I am that this is an agent that is quite familiar with Aurora in a more negative manner?" He looks then over at Dana with a grin. "I think you finally might be able to get that fight you've been itching for."

Anastasia

"Oh good," Dana's metal-clad fists slam together, "About damn time."

"Tell us more about this spirit," Balyss ignores your back and forth with Dana in the meantime. "Is it of diabolical origins, by chance?"

"No," The old man says, quickly regaining himself. "Over a century ago, Dresus of the Ninth Circle traveled the planes in search of unfound arcana. He came back with a ritual to bind that spirit into a magic circle, where it has served us faithfully since then. It has no name, it is simply a spirit of knowledge."

<IronDragoon> I mean, why not?

Nephrite

"I think it's been lying to you this entire time." Moore says. "I realize that may come as... well, quite a shock, especially since I'm sure many people are devoted to it, but... just based on what we've seen so far, I think... well, even if it isn't lying, I don't think it's being as truthful as you want it to be."

"What would it take for us to be able to see it ourselves?" Moore asks, with a glance over at the guards. "We could identify it immediately."

Anastasia

The old wizard considers, before nodding once and rising. "I wish to get to the bottom of this. Come with me."

<IronDragoon> I mean, why not?

Nephrite

Moore nods. "Very well, please lead the way."

Even if it's some sort of elaborate trap, he trusts in himself and his allies to figure it out.
