"Impossible," Velasca scowls, "If I could flee this plane on my own power, I would. Stay there, I will come - without my sigil, which is safe elsewhere. Betray me and you will never see it." The image vanishes.

The Master's expression is cold, empty and controlled. 'Will we strike or listen to her?'

"Listen," Afina says. "An easy win is an easy win, though it depends on how greedy she gets with her demands." She sheathes her sword and takes Jaela's and the Master's hands. "I'll plane shift us away at the first sign of trouble. Quicker than a Gate."

Corwin

'Agreed,' Jaela relays, reaching for the Master's burden. 'I'm sending these two to Mirajane. Simmer, please secure the prisoners.'

An extension of her will sends the pair directly towards her daughter's location, and then Jaela boosts herself and her friends in preparation of any devil ambush.

After a moment, Velasca is there. She looks much more solid now, a scroll in her hand. "The contract," she says, brusquely. "Read it quickly. It will ensure that trust is irrelevant."

Afina snatches the contract, accelerating time so she can indeed read exceptionally fast. 'Put her down if I act at all unusual after reading,' she asks Jaela.

7th level slot to time stop for 2 rounds of speed-reading.

"I went against gods over my word," Jaela says, scanning the scroll for magic. "Just saying."

In short, the contract promises Velasca safety inside of Aurora, immunity for any of her crimes, freedom from imprisonment and the right to walk away when it's all over to where ever she wishes. In short, she gets off scot free.

In exchange, you get her sigil and the right to interrogate her, and a promise that she'll answer your questions truthfully to the best of her knowledge. She won't conspire against you and will abide by her part of it as much as you do yours.

At the bottom is a place for a general of Aurora to sign, and notes that the signature is binding for all of Aurora.

Jaela can see that the contract is indeed magical - it binds those who sign it to the terms of it, so long as they're one of the listed parties.

'Looks straightforward,' Jaela reports mentally. 'I'm ready to sign it, unless there's anything in the text itself we can't live with?'

"Unacceptable," Afina says after an instant of reading. "My counter-offer. You will be confined to one of Aurora's guest quarters until the occupation of Lifasa is ended or Lifasa is suborned into hell - having you wander around freely is poison for morale, but I'll spare you the dungeon. At that point you're free to go and have a hundred and one years of liberty during which no one associated with Aurora will pursue you for your crimes. If you get murdered in a bar-fight with someone who recognises you, that's on you." She pauses a moment for Velasca to digest that. "Also I'm not seeing any penalty clauses."

Anastasia

"Acceptable," Velasca says after some thought. She smiles a bit coldly, "The penalties simply curse your body and drag you to death's door and then through it, clawing at your soul like a hungry cat all the while."

Dipping to the ground, Afina casts fabricate to turn some magma into a simple stencil. Flying back up, she cuts into her forearm with it to use her blood in the absence of any ink, making her suggested alterations to the contract. "Sign to accept the alterations and then I'll sign for Aurora," she says, handing it back to Velasca.

You sign, while Velasca pulls a quill out from her dress. As she bends over to do it, you feel a deep chill settling in over everything, the oppressive warmth of magma being cooled.

"It's done," Velasca says shortly, "Open a gate and use your strongest dispel. Quickly! Memory thieves are coming."

There is a tremendous crack as Velasca shudders and the ground is suddenly iced over. The magma freezes solid as the gate opens, Velasca wasting no time in diving through.
