Jaela settles back in as forces rush out. Vul'lath turns to her and remarks, "Surrounded on all sides by an outright assault," he remarks dryly, "Is this where you say you have them right where you want them?"

Meanwhile Afina mans the gates - and immediately sees them. Invisible things, shadowy things. Dogai, over a dozen of them, stalking and stealthing towards Aurora's gates, weaving behind and away the forces that pour out. Covered in potent magic, only her near-flawless vision allowing her detect them at all.

"Dogai infiltrators! Marking targets with lightning!" Afina calls to the soldiers rushing out, a crackling lance of lightning bursting out to strike one of the devils before splitting off to hit each of the others, briefly marking their presence for other forces to capitalise on.

This is why groups usually get group saves.

Lightning strikes - more miesses than hits, but it illuminates. Forces peel off and you see unsee dogai surrounded, chopped up, sliced. Others manage to escape and reach the gates, only to be flash-fried by them. In moments Afina can see the threat is neutralized at the expense of a slowdown.

Jaela grins at Vul'lath, commenting, "As matter of fact, it is exactly the sort of counter-attack we've been planning for." Growing more serious afterwards, she studies the tactical map, asking, "How many do we still have in reserve?"

"Makaril and Mirima can clear out the Throne on their own, especially with my mother bringing in reinforcements. Canderella will ensure the wounded will retreat in an orderly fashion." Jaela can't help but snort at the term. "Aurora's closer position to the Throne will ease that, as well as make it less likely artillery will be used due to the devil desire of holding the Throne, or making it costly for us to take it for ourselves, which a bombardment will put an end to."

She pauses briefly, before continuing. "Gisfal has the most experience in both training our soldiers and leading armies in battle, and he will lead his forces to break through the encirclement, using the Throne and Aurora as cover against being flanked. Depending on the devil response to the maneuver, depending as it is on the relative skill of the enemy commander, we might commit more of our resources to the battle." Jaela glances down at the goldenfire spear laid across her lap, a hand resting atop it. "We can reasonably expect surprise in the initial stages, and a skilled commander like Gisfal will be able to build upon that."

If I see the opportunity at some point, I'll send out small teams of soldiers that can withstand Aurora's prismatic glory to push or lure the fodder devils close enough to Aurora and then alter the shield briefly to stun the weaker devils. Nothing decisive, but might be helpful.

"We have an update from Sylica's forces. They're facing heavy counter attack," Sage Vul'lath reports aloud, "The same tactics as this - Hell's committing considerable forces and power to open that many portals."

Meanwhile....'We're being pushed back! The devils had a reserve force and some sort of magic that's turning the halls into a bloodbath,' Mirima sends to all of you. 'We need some sort of boost or pressure on the Fallen Throne or we may have to retreat.'

Outside, Afina can see the chaos. Army against army, narzugon against eladrin, archon against cornugon, human against barbazu, hero against devil, hope against the looming night. In her mind she hears it - the voice of Gathgorian. 'Are you ready to settle this today, Afina? The fated hour draws close. Come prepared, I will not settle for anything but your best.'

'Entrench yourself, help is on the way,' Jaela responds to Mirima, telling Vul'lath, "Send out Moonlight to breach the Throne from another venue. Have Tannin accompany her and pick the best spot for that."

Naturally, Afina's verbal reply gets no answer, though a few people nearby look over at her.
