"Bit under half an hour," comes the reply via illusory voice as Marie considers the problem.

Are the shadows possessing the victims via a spell or is it an Su/Ex ability?

Could she use Snatch Spell to take over and dismiss the effect if it is a spell?

Relevant text:

The effect must be one that does not depend on concentration but still relies on or responds to the caster's control (such as a summon monster spell or spiritual weapon, but not a wall of fire or acid fog). Furthermore, the effect (but not necessarily the spellcaster) must be within 30 feet of the incantatrix. The target spellcaster and the incantatrix make an opposed caster level check. A divine spellcaster receives a +2 bonus on this check.

Alternatively can she cast righteous smite at CL 1 for 1d6 holy damage (halved for neutral, nothing for good) to hit the victims/shadows? Then she can just heal the victims and repeat as long as required.

Major image voice speaks up again! "I might be able to end the spell they're using to possess them, but that could pull the shadow out so can you all please position by him and be ready to cut it down?" Marie asks, pointing out one of the victims while her singing continues.

Then she attempts her trick of taking over and dismissing the spell!

You have it. In that moment you feel your will take over the spell, like holding nothing at all and yet felt, a deep chill.

Go, you made the check.

Making sure the Crimson Guard are in position to cut down any shadows that appear, Marie dismisses the spell!

"Hold," Oberuth says, gesturing over another. "Ghost touch weapon." he commands shortly, the spell cast on his blade.

From there it's not long. When you let go of the spell, all shakes. From all the cells and captives comes a horrid cry, liquid black shadow pouring from empty eyes and wide open mouths. It begins to form, but Oberuth is there, blade coming down fast and hard.

Oberuth's blade comes down again and again as he stands his ground, slicing away great black globs of the shadow stuff, which fades into a foul smelling smoke. Cleave after cleave lessens it, until at last nothing is left behind, the last of it turning to smoke.

"In Helm's name, perish!" Eudard's voice is heard, clangs of steel and flashes of light.

"Dragonfire of the Prncess, burn!" A second voice you don't know offhand calls, the crackle of flames following.

"Great Tempus, bring down your chariots of war!" Another voice you don't know, bringing a tremendous pounding of hooves.

"Lady Mystra, I call on your mysteries," A fourth voice declares, the ground shaking.

After a moment of no screams and no reaction, "Report," Oberuth calls, briskly.

"Neutralized," Eudard replies. "Banished in the light of Helm's vigilance."

"Likewise, sir," The second voice confirms.

"Returned to a proper rest," The third sighs.

Others follow, more and more. Oberuth exhales, "We were light on song mages and bards," he remarks quietly, "Tell Alicia that sending you was a fine idea."

Marie smiles proudly while keeping up her uplifting song, her illusory voice speaking above it. "Now lets take these people back to Balmuria so they can be properly cared for?"

Anastasia

Oberuth nods and lingers a moment, "If you ever need another job," he offers, "You know where to go. Alicia, Seira and Demedais couldn't have done it any better."

Awww, that means a lot to her! Oberuth was never mean to her in the past but she knows she was only tolerated as Alicia's silly familiar back in the Crimson Guard days. "I'll remember that," her illusory voice speaks up, "Balmuria was my home for some good years."

Anastasia

Oberuth nods and then severs the bondage of the poor victim before him, taking him as he screams silently now, expression growing grim.

"Justice has been done, and mercy will follow." Oberuth promises, as those empty eyes turn, gaping empty in Marie's direction.

Marie looks back at those eyes with her own compassionate gaze as she continues to hold Shar's song at bay with her own lyrics, a comforting hymn to Mystra on her lips.

Anastasia

The prisoner watches you all the while, even when taken out.

Meanwhile...

Marielle has grown. It seems she is worthy of my personal attention now, Alicia.

Marie is of course informed of that, which leads her to be extra wary for any avatars showing up as they finish up and leave the dungeon.

We both know that nothing is beneath you, Shar.
