Gargauth's holdings on Earth and the adjacent planes are protected. Not unexpected, but still a block. See what you can find out, but don't push if you feel it'll tip him off. And speaking of your role as impromptu spy-master, we've yet to have a sit down and talk about the state of the realm and what sort of probes you've found. We need to do that.

'We will,' Bastian sends back. 'I'll be in touch when I have something or call it off.'

Alyssa nods to herself and goes back to researching, trying to find any information on his operations, or what he prefers to target.

One of his main modes of operation is known.

He's known to set up his summoning by mortals, or sometimes approach a particular target personally. Regardless of which, he ultimately convinces mortals to accept gold he provides. This gold ultimately leads to profit and then a great reversal, but a gift of power: words of malice they speak seek to become true. Those that use and embrace this power are doomed to Gargauth, and those who try to escape always seem to swiftly die and find the same fate.

The exact details vary telling by telling, but this consistent theme comes up.

Alyssa taps her chin... 'Is there a way to track this magic...'

Alyssa tries to find records of rumors of any mortals that have fallen prey to this magic that might still be alive.

Which is not easily on the ground. Mortals who deal with Gargauth seem to end up serving him, dead or most likely both. But, you do hear of a rumor, of a mortal of some kind who hides in Brightwater, who escaped Gargauth's grasp somehow. The details are muddied and hidden, but it is said to be known.

Alyssa sends a message to both Emily and Bastian, I'm finding rumors of a mortal who seems to have, at least temporarily, escaped Gargauth's clutches. I believe he's hiding on Brightwater. I want to find him and see what I can learn from the magic that might still be lingering on him. It may lead to a way to track Gargauth, or a way to impede his magic.
