Marie, you teleport the bear into the edge of the cloud so she can emerge and attack the hezrou, wait for a good chance to free the prisoners. Syala and I will stay here in case our quarry has horrendous timing," Alicia explains while spells are cast on the bear.

Marie turns herself invisible and puts a hand on the back of the bear, waiting for Jessica to start the dust-storm before teleporting them both into position for the Wandering Giver's horrifying visage to emerge out of the dust/fog.

They can't equal or beat the check so no point rolling it.

The demons break. There's no other word for it. One turns and flees and that breaks the dam, the hezrou getting one look at that and turning tail. Off they flee, leaving the slaves behind.

[Ebiris]

The bear disguised as a demon walks after the hezrou with a pitiless stride. Meanwhile Marie, invisible, sneaks over to the captives. As the bear passes them, she first creates an illusion of the dust cloud surrounding herself and all the mortals, obscuring them from sight and simply seeming as if the storm follows the giver.

Persistent image SLA for that.

Thus hidden, she hits the group with a disjunction to suppress those chains on them. "Shhh, I'm getting you out of here," she whispers, loud enough to carry for their ears only, for all that she's unseen.

A few look about, openly dazed as the magic of the chains is disrupted. "Who...what...?" A few murmur.

[Ebiris]

"Shhh, just relax and stay close together," Marie whispers.

Miracle SLA to emulate a chain metal melt or something like that to destroy the chains since they're currently non-magical and thus eligible targets (it causes the metal to turn liquid without heating up for a round).

After the metal melts away, chains now littering the abyssal surface as globs of molten metal, she casts banishment over the group, sending each person back to their native plane! Maybe not exactly home, but it's a lot better than where they are right now!

Miracle to emulate it anyway. She can get 76 hd worth of creatures per casting. DC 45 will negates if they want to resist for whatever reason.

[Anastasia]

They do not. Like this as demons flee, you banish them all to whence they came. It's done smoothly, perhaps no one the wiser.

[Ebiris]

Just for completeness, Marie catches up with the bear and creates another illusory dust-storm between it and the hezrou. Sending word to Alicia, she dismisses the summon, Marie dismisses her illusions, and then returns back to their hideout to resume waiting for their actual quarry.

"Nicely done everyone," Alicia murmurs afterwards.

[Anastasia]

Jessica smiles faintly, "Another day in the Abyss."

Syala chuckles lowly, "The legend of that twisted thing grows. I doubt we're the first ones to pull that particular trick."

[Ebiris]

"It's surprisingly convenient," Marie agrees. "Maybe it doesn't even exist in reality and it's a trick every time?"

[Anastasia]

"It wouldn't be the first legend to grow from nothing," Syala reflects on that, "I have a few Rapture versions of stories like that for a less oppressive time."
