Mostly a dare to see how well I could photoshop with a high fever.

I think it's pretty lame.  But maybe you'll have ideas for how to fix it.

Before anything else, I meant the outlines to come out like that.  The style was way too different to really blend with that background (borrowed from Sword of the Beserk), so I tried to make the characters look like cell-shaded 3d figures.

It KINDA worked.

The figures look fine to me; the only thing that catches my eye as out of place is the text.Maybe a different font/color?

Yeah, the text sucks, no question.  I need a better font; I was thinking something either cursive-ey, or slash-ey.  But I'm not so great at locating fonts.

Personally, I'm a big fan of subtlety.  I think this one might be overdone ... but at least I found a better font.  Will probably rework the gradient to just be gold, and then outline it the same as the characters.

Take a look at this font, too, see what you think of it. *has too many fonts to possibly be healthy*

Hrm... can you post the original images or links to where you got them? I may want to play with them a bit once I have time and see if I can get rid of those pixels that form around the outlines (forgot the technical term for that), as well as sharpening the images (since I'm guessing you resized, which leads to a blur effect somewhat on the images) and whatnot.
