The day before I left for Japan, I spent the day with my travelling companion (rathany), and we shopped around for last-minute important stuff.  Point being, I was Not At Home.

My roommate called me THREE times that day, because he couldn't get the Internet to work.  I told him a few things to do and then told him to call comcast if they didn't work.  I didn't hear back again, so I assumed that this had done the trick.

I got back from Japan to find the two-week-old corpse of my Internet, still defunct.  My roommate said he'd called Comcast, but that they wanted him to (gasp) go through the router settings.  He didn't want to do that while I wasn't there, because lord knows he doesn't know anything about how routers work.  And obviously, the Comcast guy he was ACTIVELY ON THE PHONE WITH wouldn't have been able to help him out if something went wrong, RIGHT?  I mean, it's not like that's what they're THERE for or anything, you know?

So.  I called Comcast and over a 30+ minute call (with only 5 mins on hold, for what that's worth) we determined that it was a problem that could not be fixed via one non-expert and one tier-one-level tech support guy over the phone.  So I scheduled for a comcast guy to come in the next day (which is today).

Comcast guy showed up EARLY, of all things, but that was okay since I'd actually managed to wake up and get showered (at 1pm, yay jetlag).

He was still there at 4:30pm.  We had determined that my router wouldn't work.  His replacement router wouldn't work.  He even had another coworker bring a THIRD router out to Forest Grove (it's a ways) to ensure that these routers were NOT working.  He'd found a problem in the cablebox outside, but even after fixing that none of the routers worked.

So now another comcast guy is coming tomorrow to try a non-Linksys router (apparently Linksys did something that's fucking up a lot of their routers, thanks to a signal they sent out to upgrade stuff or something? It sounds a little sketchy to me, but for once I actually felt like our tech guy knew what he was talking about, or at least like he thought he did).

And my roommate, apparently, is too much of a weenie to have gotten any of this done while I was gone.  Because he's brilliant like that.

But the best part of all of this?

He was supposed to be moved out a WEEK before I got back.  He's paying rent for this month either way, so it's not a big deal that he's still here.  But I was NOT expecting to see his car in the lot when I got home, or boxes of his crap in the living room downstairs.

The current plan is that his dad is sending up a moving van and movers to haul his crap down to southern california, and he himself is flying down.  But he's not sure when.  Probably the 10th.  But it could be the 11th.  As in, 2-3 days from now, and he's not sure.

...I can't help but feel like the fact that this guy got a degree cheapens mine. -_-

And what do I get? WWE... WTF???? WHy the hell is their pro-wrestling on my sci-fi station? What they decided that they had dead air and instead of filling it with something like reruns of Bablyon-5 they'd use sweaty men in tights???

ARGH!! You're the Sci-fi channel.... ergo you show shows with science fiction/fantasy........ NOT WRESTLING!!!

THis is almost as mind boggling as when Adult swim was showing episodes of Saved By the bell......

I had to pay off a 2k debt to CMU health insurance because the department failed to notify me that I was suppose to be paying it off myself.  Current balance of savings account, 0$.

That, and I'm bitching at myself for not making absolutely sure that I was suppose to be paying for my own insurance.
