Hmm, Bleach seems to be unfairly forgotten here, and nobody's been talking about it for 4 years. Even though it rocks again, after a bizarre and controversial Fullbringer arc was finally over and a new arc began. So it's just me who still reads it?

I still read it.  Sorta think it's in a weird place at the moment, what with the amount of character death.  Especially the Kenpachi duel.  There was a fantastic shortfic on that.

Nah, the Kenpachi duel was one of the few things which were easy to understand; apparently, Kenpachi can become so much more powerful that Kyoraku is willing to sacrifice another captain. Let's see how it works out.
What I don't understand is where the story is going right now at the moment. Because this is how it was:

Squad Zero: Yo, Ichigo! Tag along, we're gonna fix your sword!
Ichigo: Cool, let's go!
(three days later)
Squad Zero: Lol, we're not gonna fix your sword. In fact, we knew from the start it was impossible. Now GTFO and learn about your parents' past.
Ichigo: FFFFFUUUUUUUUUU--

Yeah. The flashback was kinda cool, though, about as much as the arc about Urahara and the Visoreds' past.

I think this puts it excellently.  They have fantastic medical capabilities, including access to someone that can effectively rewind time to heal people (orihime).  Even if they needed to sacrifice one of their captain's, it should've had a full medical team there.

What's to say they both wouldn't have died from their wounds anyway?

I certainly hope Unohana doesn't die just like that, moments after her backstory was revealed (not to mention her bankai wasn't explained properly). And from such a petty wound, when weaker characters have suffered more grievous injuries and still received healing after, like, hours of intense bleeding. Then again, Kubo is an infamous troll.
