The Backround:

January 15th, 1920, was only two years and about five months ago, and much of the country is still trying to figure out how to react to the Prohibition.  Flappers are just begining to be seen in some clubs and speakeasys, and fashion is just now making the change from having things personally fitted, to having things ready-made.

This, still under the shadow of the World War, leaves many people with a feeling of inevitable change, though none can tell right now if it's for good or bad.  An age is being ended, and life is about to become very different.

Things may be different, but now it feels like everyone is just trying to remember what they were doing seven years ago....

The Crew:

Harvey Rockmoore is a fairly well respected man about the town of Colorado Springs.  An individual who came to America in 1907, at the age of twenty.  After enlisting, and fighting in the World War, he came home, lame in one leg, and bitter and the country that did it to him.  Still, he is a wealthy man, and one with connections.

You have, for whatever reason, attracted his attention.  Harvey is looking to you for a task that's somewhat shady.  Shadier then the collection of casks in Harvey's basement.  Harvey Rockmore has selected you because he believes you have what it takes.

For what?  You're not sure; no one is.  Harvey wouldn't still be walking the streets if he were careless.  But people have noticed.  The one word going around in whispered conversations when people do discuss the letters everyone knows have been sent is ... 'bank'.

The Setup:

This game is going to be run in the HERO system, and I will arbitrarily award each player a single 'Hero' point, which can be used like Willpower in White Wolf, or an action point in Eberron.  Good backgrounds may earn an extra point.

I'm aiming for a game of about a month in length, with three-to-four players.  I've got someone (who's not registered to this board yet) who wants in, so that leaves us with two or three more spots.  The goal of this game is basically to create an extended scene, and then complete it.  You're going to (if you sign up for this game) pretty much just do the heist.  So you need to figure out why your character wants to do it, and what your motivations are to see it through.

Anyone interested?

I'm quasi interested, with two caveats.

1. How much HERO will we have to know? I haven't learned the system, and to be completely honest, I'm not sure I have the time this month to sit down and puzzle out a new RP system.  Not to sound cold, I just have a lot of stupid stuff going on with my life right now as well as Redux to get going.

2. Board based? IRC? What times?
<Afina> Imagine a tiny pixie boot stamping on a devil's face.
<Afina> Forever.

<Yuthirin> Afina, giant parasitic rainbow space whale.
<IronDragoon> I mean, why not?

Sure, sign me up. Feel free to bump me in favor of newer players, though.
I am a terrible person.
Excellent Youkai.

HERO system knowledge should be as per normal -- I can keep the entire system transparent for you if you prefer.  Otherwise, it's as complex as you're willing to learn it.  Because this game will be slow paced, and forum-only, I don't expect any problems with the pacing.  If you need time to see what your options are in a situation, I have no problem going over what your character is able to do according to their stats.

CHARGEN will be next Thursday or Sunday, depending on when people are most comfortable with it.

Times for posting will be "whenever" with the caveat of "possible".  So, I'll try and be better about posting ... I expect a pause (at the least) for X-mas, with minimal posting from then until after National Hangover Day.

I don't really know anything about the HERO system (yet), but it'd be cool to learn. Anyway, if you've got an open spot....
<Steph> I might have made a terrible mistake

If you've got an open slot and are willing to take the time to have me learn the system (potentially all newbies at once, if we set up in IRC or in a chatroom) as -well- as general RPing stuff given that it would be my first RP, then by all means go wild.  Yeah, my resume isn't fantastic.

Okay, four applications.  I'm going to close enrollment at this point.

I'd like to set up a time to meet everyone via IRC to discuss this; alternately, we can have a forum set up and just discuss in the OOC page until we've got everything together.  The game should begin on the 13th.

After looking things over, I decided that we'd do away with most stats, since I don't want to make everyone learn a new system just for what amounts to an extended scene.

Therefore, we're going to be using no system, with one exception.  You each get a single 'hero point' you can use to improve your odds of pulling something very difficult off.

I'll be poking Drac to get the forum online today; ideally, posting will begin tomorrow.
