That is...something. Yes, it's something. Something...ah...

I'm just not sure what exactly it is.

It's just your bog standard scene and character developments for Ranma/Sailor Moon crossovers.  Nothing particularly different, plotwise.

Ranma/Hellsing crossover. It's not bad. I wouldn't call it great, but I've had fun reading it. The writing is good and the story does a superb job of showing Ranma's descent into vampirism. More in the spoiler box.

[spoiler]

The good:

Ranma's gradual loss of humanity. Unlike Seras, he embraces his nature almost immediately and changes in time to it. It's not sudden and it is well built up over the course of the story. Despite all of Ranma's will, he can't really resist what he is now.

Ryouga's death. It was a complete bitch-kill, but you know what? It was done just right and really slammed home hard. The story set it up so that you'd think he'd be able to compete with Ranma again, but BLAM! That one got my attention but good. Lots of credit to the author for pulling that off.

The general darkening of the story to match Ranma's descent is outstanding.

The bad:

I'm not really fond of how he portrays Alucard. I'm not a Hellsing nut so maybe I'm wrong, but his entire voice for Alucard's internal monologues feels wrong.

Panda's link:
Also a 'What'.  A weird what.  I don't know one of the series its crossing with, but it sort of ends chapter 1 before really grasping it.  Probably best to read by chap 3.

Dune's:
I remember glancing over that, but the writing really just didn't quite do anything for me.  Maybe I'll check it out again.

I've generally found a lack of good Hellsing (or hellsing crosses) that are recognizable or go anywhere.  Sure, shorts finish, but few sort of manage to play with the scenario.

It isn't quite as bad as, say, Last Exile or Mai-hime, but Hellsing is another one of those series where replacing a character or shoehorning a crossover is kind of hard unless you plan on completely derailing canon.

New chapter of 'A Hero' out, continuing to nail the Doctor Who penchant for entertainment via one-liners and one-upmanship:

EDIT: the beginning - http://forums.spacebattles.com/showthread.php?t=202167

Ehem, I guess it's getting to be a bit too meme-y and (considering the glacial update schedule) wandering off track. Dalek Sec trying its plunger out on Dwarf Fortress was fun but ultimately pointless.

The author stated they want this to be more Madoka-flavored and less Doctor Who-ish. Right now it has almost exactly nothing to do with Madoka, thematically speaking. (The whole "why does Sec fail to approve of the Incubator's strategy, again?" bit of reasoning still confuses me; then again, so does postmodern philosophy and that doesn't stop supposedly intelligent beings from making more of it.) It's more like "what if Madoka was a Doctor-lite episode of Doctor Who starring a Dalek?"

In short it's a huge tease for what the author might have written had they more time on their hands.
That the dead tree with its scattered fruit, a thousand times may live....

Agreed.  I'd argue the optimal places for a hellsing cross is:
1)Post series.
2)During/Post prequel series.

I'd think this wouldn't be too much of an issue as really the series removes its super-character on conclusion and generally leaves the world in a pretty chaotic state which a lot could play off of.

Fair Brian anti-angst warning: You may not want to read this one unless you wanna see murderess Ukyo.

http://www.fanfiction.net/s/7164795/1/Revenge

I'm gonna be honest, I don't like this fic. The premise is that in a fiancee tussle Ranma is killed by a random fluke. Dark as hell but maybe it can be salvaged, right? Nope! The entire thing turns into Akane declaring revenge and going on to kill the other fiancees. This annoys me. As dark as the premise is, it could be an interesting exploration of human grief and how people deal with a tragedy. Instead Akane just kills everyone and gets away with it. Ho-hum. It's nothing but a garish revenge fantasy where Akane is the wronged maiden and the other evil fiancees need to burn in hell.

I find it ironic since the author's note for the last chapter says that he wants more versatility with a variety of characters. Sure, they make great murder fodder and paper-thin villains!

Wow, that was not what I thought at all.  I thought it was some old horrible fanfic, not a new horrible fanfic from what you were saying on IRC.  I may disagree with you insofar as the writing is so bad it actually ended up amusing me kind of ... in a horrible way.  That may be the vodka, though.

Anyway.

You thought it was this fic, huh?

Eh.

I think it's one of the better takes on Ranma being locked as a girl. It tries to deal with the subject matter reasonably well, albeit in an angst-bomb way. A possible Ranma/Ryouga matchup is slow building and examined fairly well. It's worth a read to see if it's up your alley. It's not a great fic, but it's a good one with a few flaws.
