Pretty good chapter, though admittingly...
Spoiler: ShowHide

I find the damagableness versus physical capabilities a bit off.  I could go for victory that was not largely: "Hah, one hit knockout!" "Hah, your mistake, 1 hit fatality!"  "Hah, still alive, one hit fatality!  Now gonna lie down and die..."  It feels more like guys with guns then martial arts.

It did play a nice off rails bit there, true and a good followup to the 'grab wand, win fight'.

New chapter of http://www.fanfiction.net/s/7478793/1/Daybreak_Part_I out.  Pretty good one, introducing the starting move of the antagonist of this arc.  I forget if I talked about it before, but it is the second part of a pretty good story where Mikoto decides to look after Naruto and averts the fall of the Uchiha.
Well, Goodbye.

Not a lot of posting all of a sudden.

Anyhow, read all of Harry Potter and the Wastelands of Time (and its follow up).

Incoherent at times, feels at points like it was made up on the spot.    Setups go unanswered commonly.  Harry practically makes shit up on the spot a lot.

But a good romp none the less.

His recs though in the authors notes are terrible to a last.  Every one I've checked has been cruddy fics.  But his stuff is worth a read.
Well, Goodbye.

Joe also tends towards self-aggrandizement, perhaps more than he deserves, which turns me off a bit.

The Truth Decays.

I liked it enough to see what else s/he's written. So far Invert has been decent.

Just finished what was written on this.  Leaf comes across as just outright stupid/terrible in this, can't say I approve.  Everyone pretty much doesn't blink at kidnapping a strange talent and torturing him.  Really?  Jiriaya and Naruto are practically the only ones who go 'This is wrong'.  It plays off the evil untouchable council (Boo) but what makes it a problem is the good guys are pretty much indifferent/accepting of it.

Kinda bleh, for as much as Naruto/FMA seems like an interesting mixture.  Both societies have folks making untenable choices that reshape the world around them with mystic power.
Well, Goodbye.

In Flight has updated and I won't be able to read it until Monday. ;_;

Dracos

Finished First Try by Lucilie.  Not linking.  It's long and weirdly, for something that begins by Going off the Rails, has a real problem with managing to go off the rails.  It's got an interesting premise.  Naruto graduates on his first attempt instead of his third.  Because of this, he ends up on a different team, also younger on his early adventures.

There's a bit of mangling to keep him a genin, and but it isn't until he's added to team 7 and probably past wave that it really starts to degrade, getting stuck into different reasons for the same bullshit going on (or stealing from other fics and doing the same thing there).  It's a pity.  There's a lot that could be interestingly done with an experienced Naruto coming in with the two smart folks, but it just doesn't gel together and there's a lot of bullshit to basically explain: Kakashi never gets to connect with Naruto.  No matter how hard he tries.
Well, Goodbye.

Read the latest In Flight.  Kinda fillerish, but still enjoyable seeing it coming back.
Well, Goodbye.

DK:A's weekly update. Beyond that nothing's updated in a few weeks. I'm in one of those ruts where nothing I like is updating at all. Urgh.

Time to re-read old favorites.

It's a post from a football blog, but it's exceedingly well written.

Since we're Motivation-themed, I've been reading a glut of Naruto fics over the past two weeks for the hell of it (still haven't read the actual manga, though).

Of those, two were notable enough to be remembered:
http://www.fanfiction.net/s/2422718/1/Fox_Identity
http://www.fanfiction.net/s/6694302/1/Naruto_Myoushuu_no_Fuuin

Neither are finished, and the writer of the first doesn't seem to have done anything since 2009.

Claymade updated. I'm not into the fic at all, merely skimming the chapters at this point. I hate when an awesome fic goes in a direction you can't stand.

Yeah, but we both knew it might go that way from the end of DLoN.  Thanks for warning me away from the sequel.
I handle other fanfic authors Nanoha-style.  Grit those teeth!  C&C incoming!
Prepare to be befriended!

Yeah, I was expecting it too. Doesn't mean it isn't a big ol' bummer.
