From Fake Dreams updated. This Grail War is looking to be the biggest clusterfuck this side of Skysaber. Gonna have a whoooole lot of meddling now, even moreso.

Spoiler: ShowHide

Assuming Shiro summons a servant - which at this point could derail off of and UBW is arguably enough to let him compete with servants anyway - I wonder if he's going to summon someone new or unusual. His whole vampire thing might be enough miss Saber.

I doubt his servant changes. Avalon is so much a part of him that I don't think he can summon anyone else.

I dunno. At the pace this fic is going, I wouldn't be stunned if something managed to go even more awry. It's had plenty of twists already.

History Isn't Always

A Naruto time travel fic. Pretty decent. Manages to avoid many of the cliche's Naruto-time0travel stories tend toward. The author has trouble with where to begin/end a paragraph, though.

I started down it, but dropped  somewhere around "And he couldn't let him know he was really 6 feet tall".  Maybe chapter 3?  It was pretty early.  The lead-up was surprisingly AU to begin with but that's okay, but I just found it hard to buy some of the logic in the early chapters.  "We can sense evil from your seal"?   Naruto's informed relation to Kurenai seemed blink-worthy.  What made it hardest to buy was just the whole "I'll pretend to be amnesic' setup.  Really?  Because it is either viable really or you wouldn't at least have some trust for Sarutobi?

Mmm, maybe a personal pet-peeve, but it always kind of bugs me when there's time travel back to mid-to-end of Sarutobi's reign and Naruto is "I can't tell him anything, even that it happened".  Sure, this is far enough back that they haven't met yet (also far enough back that Kurenai would be a little brat and the rest of the mentioned cast wouldn't even be born yet)...

Glancing a bit further, yeah, I just have trouble grasping.  It's just too AU and the obsfucation comes off as weird.  The character takes are almost original enough to be it's own story, and were they, they'd be a bit more viable really, but placed as a whole, it just has trouble holding together for me.  Obito stalking for help training?  This is Konoha in the early years of its third ninja war technically, when the Uchiha were at their strongest.  It's just things like this that abound and make it hard to swallow as a time travel story.  It's practically another universe.
Well, Goodbye.

I'm still early in this story, but I don't think 'rational cause' has been a particularly strong weight point in the storytelling process so far.  So while you are correct, you're at the same time expecting a kind of 'required reason' to push things in a certain direction.

Time travel. -_-;
What if they're not stars at all? What if the night sky is full of titanic far-off lidless eyes, staring in all directions across eternity?

I don't think the author has out-and-out broken any of the toys he's playing with. Shiro would have to lose Avalon at some point before the summoning (and given it exists in his reality marble I don't see that happening).

Ok, maybe he uses it to heal someone the same way he was healed and accidentally/is forced to summon before he can trace a copy of it? Maybe he isn't called for this grail war and gives Avalon to one of his allies to call forth a strong servant? I admit there are scenarios where Arturia is summoned and he isn't the master. I just don't see any where he summons a servant and she isn't it.

DK:A update.

Ami's finally leveling up! About time. Also she finally got the Dark Gods to put aside their rivalries to go after her. This isn't going to go anywhere but bad, I'm sure.

http://www.fanfiction.net/s/6517567/58/Harry_Potter_and_the_Temporal_Beacon Someone recommended this.  I consumed it all.  It's good mixed with bad.  It's more coherent then the last time travel HP fic I read, but also at the same time, seeming like it is pawing at being something it's not quite.

And it instead inspires me to make another mean thread.
Well, Goodbye.

The Dark Lords Strike Back updated. This fic lost me awhile ago, but I skimmed the chapter already. There's some interesting bits, but my fundamental problems with the fic remain. No big, I'm over it.

A fic to end all fics.  Epic scope, deep characterization, and breathtaking plot twists.  Also, it is a nice day today, and I am the Queen of Ireland.

April 1st aside, this fic is somewhat amusing so far.

They are both by the same person, and center on psychologically-changed Sakura.   The first one has the first four chapters start as a bog-standard Sakura-motivated-to-not-suck, then takes a turn to weirdness at the start of chapter 5.  The second feels like it's trying to answer the question of "What if you put a quiet badass ninja in a world of screaming ninja."

I've enjoyed both of them so far, but I don't think they're stories that everyone will like, since they're so blatantly introspective.

A Harry Potter Peggy Sue fic:

Surprisingly fun.  I wish that the secondary character with Harry had gotten a bit more screentime earlier, but the later chapters are really amusing anyway.
I handle other fanfic authors Nanoha-style.  Grit those teeth!  C&C incoming!
Prepare to be befriended!

Yeah, I liked that one.

Mass Effect: Circular

Yes, it's by Gregg Landsman, author of mind-bogglingly popular and plot-tumor-ridden NGE fanfic Nobody Dies. Yes, it's chock full of Mass Effect 1-3 spoilers. But it is a Peggy Sue fic, and that is the shortcut to my heart.
