Belated, but the cliffhanger seems fairly obvious.

[spoiler]The author's stated before that he feels Ranma could easily tank being shot. I strongly suspect that's the outcome of it - he shrugs it off and proceeds to take care of business.

Child of the Emperor is a pretty cool story I read a while back about a chaos space marine finding redemption.

I read this, and plugged it a couple times in #kitago, but nobody really showed any interest. Too bad, really.

I like it quite a lot. I'm okayish at 40k lore, having read most of the Ciaphas Cain novels and played the Dawn of War games, but it's clear that the author really knows his stuff without getting wanky on unnecessary details. By the time I was done I realized that I could name every one of the Traitor Legions, when none of them had enough distinct characterization in the games to matter much (they were all screaming lunatics).

A repentant Chaos Marine makes for a pretty compelling character, and the various hangers-on he picks up along the way give his group a feel like the retinue of an Inquisitor or a Rogue Trader. They're freelance vigilantes in the service of the Emperor, more or less, and they're pretty big on the quasi-heretical distinction between the Emperor and the Imperium. If you have even a basic understanding of 40k, or don't mind keeping the Lexicanum (40k wiki) open, definitely give this one a read.

Huh.  Yet another chapter...I was half thinking that the last chapter was the ending of the most recent arc, since it ended on a fairly stereotypical Ranma 1/2 note: fiancee tries to kill Ranma, and leaves the scene as still his fiancee (technically).
