Ranma, the Second Time Around by Kayemsi

As you might imagine from the title, this is one of the many Ranma fics
where Ranma goes back in time to 'fix' everything. This fic is very much a
Ranma/Akane romance, so anyone scared by that match-up need not
apply. ;)

This story is very much about the characters, and is somewhat less
slapstick in approach than most Ranma fics. It focuses much more on the
relationships between the characters than it does on the comedy or fights.

The relationship between Ranma and Akane is developed quickly, when
compared to real life, but somewhat slower than the Ranma average of
being engaged fifteen minutes after you meet. ;)

I enjoy the way that some of the secondary and tertiary characters, such
as Yuka, Sayuri, Nabiki and Kasumi have been given more significant
roles in the story. However, fans of more action-oriented Ranma fics may
feel that the story is a bit slow.

The 'Deus ex Machina' factor is lower than in most stories of this type (in
fact, lower than I've seen before), but it is present.

The only significant annoyance in the story is the overabundance of
Genma-bashing, and the somewhat stilted and overused dialogue towards
him in berating him for, well, pretty much everything he's ever done. >.>;

(As an aside, I've found it nearly impossible to find fics where Genma isn't
bashed severly in recent times.)

The characterization is intelligent and consistent, for the most part, and
there are no glaring inconsistencies that I have seen in the storyline or
backstory.

The technical aspects of the writing are a little shaky at the start, but they
improve as the story progresses. Overall, the spelling and grammar are
significantly better than the average fanfiction.

There are currently 37 chapters, averaging just a hair under 10,000 words
a chapter, so it's a pretty damned large fic.

On a scale of 1-5, I'd rate this fic a 3.8 out of 5. Not the best fic I've ever
read, but certainly enjoyable and worth the time spent reading it.
