Quote from: Ebiris on November 13, 2011, 08:48:23 AMFirst off, if you liked Oblivion, you'll like this.

I know, Oblivion suffered hype backlash. I've bitched about it tons! I've also put in about 100 hours into it, so what I say and what I do are different.

So with Oblivion as our basepoint, what's better and what's worse?

I've never played Oblivion, so....

Have you at least played Morrowind?

Okay, assumptions like that aside: It's a fun and well detailed open world sandbox RPG with satisfying combat and character customisation.

Brian

I played Morrowind a very little bit.  Kind of did not dig on constant cliff racer attacks any time you tried to rest in the overworld.  Didn't get far.

I do recall Peter playing Oblivion, though, and now that I think about it--

Does Skyrim have the same, "Get the fanmade 'leveling mod' so it doesn't suck" thing going on?

If so, I'll wait until the price drops by 50%, and all the official/community patches are complete.

Doesn't seem like it. Bandits have consistently been wearing shitty leather/hide/iron stuff while I'm tooling around in dwemer/orcish stuff.

I--  Wow, I implied something about that game I don't know, and you answered as if I did.  @_@

To clarify: Is the process of leveling up so bad/clumsy, you need a mod to manage your stats and make it not suck, as I heard was the case in the first previous game?

I honestly have no idea what bandit gear had to do with what I was trying to ask.

Edit: Okay, evidently both games have scaling enemies.  I didn't know that, and still don't care about it; I'm more concerned about the game being fundamentally flawed and requiring player-made-patches to address issues like that.

There was a fanmade levelling mode to make it so you wouldn't have bandits in epic gear accosting you for 10gp. Seemed like you were talking about that, since I did go into how the whole stat management is streamlined into near nonexistence in my first post which I guess was ignored as soon as I mentioned Oblivion? I'll stop posting on the subject now anyway.

Brian

Well, not having played it myself, I didn't have any way to really know how level was attached to stats....

Serves me right for asking based on second-hand knowledge.

So far I have had no problems in this regard, apart from what I suspect to be a buggy questline.

Hey Ebiris, Thanks for the detailed post on it.  Appreciated review.  I was wondering what I was missing seeing the #e talk yesterday.

Hey brian, let us resolve something.  Oblivion is sitting on my shelf.  Borrow it.

For Skyrim, I think I'm waiting to January.  Finish out what bugs are there, wait for UI Mods to step up and get polished, enjoy epic.
Well, Goodbye.

...I think I remember borrowing it and never getting around to playing it, suddenly. o_o

...yes, yes--  This happened.  Ooh, man.  Now I feel really dumb. :p

Hum, in which case it may be sitting on your shelf instead of mine.  Makes it easier to play at some point I suppose :3
Well, Goodbye.

Brian

Nope, I remember giving it back to you, too. :p

Otherwise ... lost in a move. :x

Then it would be on my bookshelf.  Offer to lend established. :)  *laughs*

A bit away from computer gaming, but..

Just played Resistance 3 for the PS3. Beat it in a day. I remember playing the original Resistance and enjoying it because, for all that it's a shooter, it had a fairly interesting concept/story. Resistance 3... fell short in these areas.

Story was short, and while fairly interesting on the surface, had no real development of the story. It felt like it should have been DLC, not a stand alone game.

As far as controls go, eh, shooters on consoles are pretty standard. The weapons are fairly interesting, however. They have good secondary/special fires, but they suffer from 'pump 80 rounds into a monster's face and it'll still punch you back.'

The monsters themselves were pretty good looking, but they have been since the original Resistance.

All in all, I'd say it's a rental.
This is not the greatest post in the world, no... this is just a tribute.

People still rent games? Do the stores page your beeper to let you know it came in? ^_^
