[23:14] <@Anastasia> ---
[23:16] <@Anastasia> A good night's rest is a boon for the weary. Saul certainly qualifies, yet he is lucky among his friends. While his body is tired, it is intact, whole and unblemished. Little else can be said for the others, as the seargant of the troops ordered the innkeep to provide for all of you as an emergency hospital of sorts. Even Darius and Serith, currently holed up a few rooms past. Compared to the others, you're just fine this morning; Elai
[23:17] <@Anastasia> Even Darius and Serith, currently holed up a few rooms past. Compared to the others, you're just fine this morning; Elaine is as well and sleeps in the other bed in this room, deeply aslumber.
[23:19] * @Saul slowly steps out from the inn, still tired. But that's what comes from staying up all night, tending to and worrying for friends..
[23:21] <@Anastasia> Heading out into the hall, your body aches still. But you still feel leagues better, the rooms ahead housing your friends and past that the tavern with a promise of food and drink.
[23:22] * @Saul pauses outside the door to his friends, knowing that, for the most part, they're ok.. for now, anyway. Rest would do more for them now than any spell would.. though magic would certainly help, especially with Darius and Gavin. Fool rider! Charging alone into an infested crypt, half-dead already...
[23:23] * @Saul briefly walks in to check on them, to make sure nothing unusual has developed with his charges.
[23:26] <@Anastasia> The first room is for Darius and Serith alone - with good cause! Darius is on a bed, stripped and modesty removed, elven flesh tinted red, a low groan coming from him followed by a wet, driving cough. A wet cloth is on his forehead, being replaced and wrung out by a old serving lady.  His left leg is propped up - oh, by Waukeen! Boils and absesses weep pus, springing up with rapidness overnight. They break on their own, spilling a bloo

[01:09] <@Anastasia> By his bed's rear is Serith - avoided by the old woman, twitching in her sleep! Sprawled out, her massive size is shown - yet her fur is darkening, patches of it becoming hard as she weakly moves ina dance. Heat seems to be radiating from her, the smilodon in a sad state.

[01:11] <@Saul> "Hells," mutters Saul, walking over to Darius and analyzing the illness. What sort of disease was this?

[01:12] <@Anastasia> OOC - Healing prof check, Saul.

[01:13] * @Serith bats the dice around, getting a roll for Saul : [ 1d20=1 ]{1}
[01:13] <@Anastasia> OOC - Crit pass!
[01:13] <@Saul> OOC: hay it is a pass
[01:15] * Midnight (~danchou@adsl-146-106-111.mco.bellsouth.net) Quit (Ping timeout)
[01:18] <@Saul> Saul's face turns white as he analyzes the illness. "Waukeen have mercy on me, but I will owe a debt to Orial before today is out," he mutters as he casts a quick healing spell on Darius- but nothing potent enough to cure the disease.
[01:19] <@Anastasia> OOC - Cure light wounds?
[01:19] <@Saul> OOC - Yeah.
[01:19] <@Anastasia> OOC - Go ahead and roll for it.
[01:19] <@Saul> roll 1d8
[01:19] * @Serith bats the dice around, getting a roll for Saul : [ 1d8=3 ]{3}
[01:20] <@Anastasia> A healing light mends Darius's battered body, his eyes workign open a moment from their fever aided delerium!
[01:21] * @Saul shakes his head as he kneels down to glances over Serith, checking to see if her illness is, god forbid, as serious as Darius'.
[01:21] <@Saul> OOC: I actually have animal handling *and* healing, so I should get away with that. >_>
[01:21] * Merc is now known as Nurse-Elaine
[01:23] <@Anastasia> OOC - Serith is exotic, but you've been hanging around her. Mmm. I'll give you a check at +2, Rat.
[01:23] <@Saul> roll 1d20+2
[01:23] * @Serith bats the dice around, getting a roll for Saul : [ 1d20=2 ]{4}
[01:27] <@Saul> Just a fever, perhaps? Not too serious.. at least not compared to Darius. Shaking his head, Saul quickly exits the room, heading towards the temple of Orial.. and keeping an eye out for Volte along the way.
[01:28] <@Anastasia> As you do you pass by a serving woman exiting another room - Seryf's and Gavin's. Bunched in there last night by nessecity, the girl takes a heavy bail of water and rags - just like the fever rags from Darius.
[01:30] <@Saul> Saul frowns, quickly ducking in there to check, too.
[01:31] <@Anastasia> Gavin is only minorly hurt - relatively. Salves have been applies to his bare chest and legs, only a light pair of loinguards worn by him. His body is seared all over with minor burns and chars, as well as a nasty set of torn bruises on his chest. But he is awake, as if Seryf...but her heat is fever slick, face flushed and eyes unfocused.
[01:33] * @Saul frowns at Seryf, suspecting her illness to be nothing more than a minor fever. He quickly casts a healing spell on both his friends- ouch. Exactly what *did* happen to Gavin in there, anyway?
[01:33] * Dracos is now known as Gavin
[01:33] <@Anastasia> OOC - Two more. Roll for both and name which.
[01:33] <@Saul> roll 1d8 boy!
[01:33] * @Serith bats the dice around, getting a roll for Saul : [ 1d8=4 ]{4}
[01:33] <@Saul> roll 1d8 girl!
[01:33] * @Serith bats the dice around, getting a roll for Saul : [ 1d8=2 ]{2}
[01:33] <@Gavin> "How is he?" Gavin asked, more concerned about Darius, but not entirely sounding great himself.
[01:34] <@Anastasia> The light helps both, mending bodies but not curing whatever sweating fever has overtaking the elven warrioress.
[01:35] <@Saul> "Not good," replies Saul, once finished with casting. "I will need to see if the local priest of Orial has the power to heal him, because I don't.. damn!" His fist hits the wall, an unusual burst of anger from the normally serene cleric. "If that pigheaded fool had come along in the first place.. and to think that now I need to *ask* him for help!"
[01:36] <@Gavin> "There was a local priest that..didn't come to help his guards out with the undead?"
[01:37] <@Gavin> Gavin raised an eyebrow.
[01:38] * @Gavin groans and sits up.
[01:38] <@Saul> "Yes. And now I must go and talk to him, and damn him to the gutter if he doesn't aid us," swears Saul, glancing over Gavin. "No, stay lying down. Your burns are not so serious, but there's no need to move right now."
[01:40] <@Gavin> "I'll come with you.  Provide a bit more reason for him to get his act in gear.  And anyhow, if he can't, that means we should get moving sooner anyway and hopefully find a stronger cleric in the city"
[01:42] <@Saul> "Something like that. I suspect Darius has between a fortnight to a month before the disease reaches it's final stages," says Saul, pacing. "If we can't find a more potent cleric soon, his leg may have to come off.."
[01:44] * Nurse-Elaine is now known as Elaine
[01:45] <@Gavin> "Then there's not time to waste."  Gavin got up with a groan, checking over his gear a bit and beginning to slip into it.  "We'll know now whether he can or not, so we could start off shortly if need be."
[01:45] <@Anastasia> While Gavin can rise, his burns protest, moreso as the cooling savles will have to be removed largely if he dresses and gets up.
[01:46] <@Saul> "You're putting on your armour?" says Saul, glancing at Gavin. "If you must come, just wear light clothing."
[01:47] * @Gavin shrugs and gets into said light clothing. "Let's go. You know the way there." Gavin presumed.
[01:47] * @Elaine knocks on the door and waves as she takes a peek. "Hey," she greets.
[01:47] * Midnight (~danchou@adsl-152-217-140.mco.bellsouth.net) has joined #evildunes
[01:47] <@Gavin> "Greetings Elaine.  How did you make out?"
[01:51] * @Elaine turns red. "Hey! Who said I made out with anyone?" she asks, misinterpreting.
[01:51] <@Saul> "She's fine, as you can see," replies Saul, dryly. "We'd better get going, too."
[01:52] <@Gavin> "Um..." He shook his head tiredly and glanced over her. "I meant in terms of injuries.  Anyhow..yes, Elaine, can you keep an eye on them?"
[01:52] * @Elaine blinks
[01:52] <@Elaine> "Sure, I guess. Should you be walking around though?" Elaine asks of the knight. He had been fairly seriously injured.
[01:53] <@Saul> "He should not be, but short of physically forcing him back into the bed, I don't think he'll stop," says Saul, rolling his eyes. "Honestly.."
[01:55] * @Elaine frowns, and moves to whisper something in Saul's ear. "Couldn't you, you know, charm him into it? I remember you trying to teach me that spell..."
[01:56] <@Saul> "They may be short of mind, but clerics of Orial- well, Orial, Waukeen, anybody- tend to be strong of will. If I tried, I would likely fail.. and he may well be aware of my attempt."
[01:56] * @Gavin frowns briefly at them, waiting for Saul.
[01:57] * @Saul sighs. "At any rate, there's nothing for it but to ask. Perhaps I'll resort to that later, if need be." At that, he starts moving out towards the temple.
[01:57] <@Elaine> "That's nice. I was referring to Gavin," Elaine says flatly, before bapping her mentor upside the head while rolling her eyes.
[01:59] * @Gavin heads out, eying Elaine. "Referring to me what?"
[01:59] <@Elaine> "Nothing!" Elaine says looking angelically innocently, noticing she'd not bothered to whisper the last bit.
[01:59] <@Saul> "Never mind," replies Saul, sheepishly. "Just a few things to do with magic."
[02:00] * @Elaine nods. "He's teaching me stuff, you know."
[02:00] <@Elaine> ooc: nods vigorously.*
[02:00] <@Saul> "I should probably charge you for that. You know, I gave your mother a discount when she asked me to teach you Elvish," muses Saul.
[02:01] <@Gavin> "And should she charge you for covering you with her blade?" Gavin opined.
[02:01] <@Gavin> "Anyhow, later, later...let's go."
[02:06] <@Anastasia> So bickering, the party heads out! Gavin is in some discomfort - while light clothse help, his body still aches and burns! It's like a campfire scald taken to the entire body! But Saul and company bravely go out in the drizzly morning, to the temple of Orial! The doors are open, a helmetless warrior at the front. "Welco..." he begins, eyeing Saul. "Excuse me."
[02:08] <@Saul> "Perhaps you may have heard that there was, in fact, an actualized undead menace in the area," says Saul, somehow restraining the venom from his voice. "My companions and I accompanied a squad of guards to confirm and destroy the threat, which we did."
[02:09] <@Gavin> "We desire to meet with the priest." Gavin said smoothly. "Immediately."

[02:16] <@Anastasia> "...yes, I have heard as the leader of the troop came in the night to wake us." Going on in disclipined smoothness, "However, Father Hersillo is most displeased with you, Priest of Waukeen."
[02:17] <@Anastasia> Stepping away, "However, we bar none from entering this holy ground, be it another priest or simply those in need. Come."
[02:17] <@Saul> "No more than I am in him," mutters Saul, entering.
[02:18] <@Anastasia> Inside, the seekers find Father Marsillo - a broad man, wearing heavy plate mail with a comet's fall marked on it's front. "WElcome," he booms from the altar of this temple, marble floor and well designed front speaking of taste and money. "...aaah, it is you."
[02:20] <@Saul> "None other. I trust your urgent business ran smoothly," says Saul, voice calm.
[02:21] * @Gavin frowns behind Saul a bit, crossing his arms.
[02:23] <@Anastasia> "Go on," he nods simply, "I can forgive and forget if you have a worthy need, child," the last word is twisted slightly, just enough to make it's meaning all too clear.
[02:23] * @Gavin raises an eyebrow.
[02:24] <@Gavin> "We come for the aid of the temple in healing those wounded protecting this village." Gavin answered quickly and formally.
[02:24] <@Saul> The insult falls upon death ears (being an average of five times as old as most other clerics has perks). "No doubt."
[02:25] <@Anastasia> "I see." Nocommitally he rises, looking to Saul. "I am more than willing to help those who are afflicted in the name of Orial...however." He pauses, raising a hand. "Tell me if the situation."
[02:26] <@Saul> "As you are no doubt aware, disease runs rampant in the festering flesh of the risen dead," says Saul. "In defending your town, friends of mine have been afflicted so- one quite harshly. Simple wounds, I have dealt with, but disease is beyond my expertise."
[02:30] <@Anastasia> "Yes. We will be most understanding of this situation, and willing to aid them. As such, we would be quite grateful for a contribution to our cause." Smoothly going on, "500 Griffons would be sufficient for our services, barring extreme need or something beyond my power."
[02:31] * @Gavin frowns. "You would charge for healing people injured in the protection of your own town?" Gavin queried sternly.
[02:32] <@Anastasia> "Sir, it is our policy - Orial offers freely, but we do require funds to maintain ourselves," Saying so grandly and sternly, "This is a minor amount of coin compared to the alternative, I believe."
[02:32] * @Saul keeps his expression pleasant with monumental effort, wanting to freeze the cleric, and rip out his heart.
[02:35] <@Gavin> "Such threats are unbecoming of a priest of Orial.  Beyond that, One bears wonder to why any priest of Orial would turn a blind eye to undead in close proximity to the town." Gavin queried, expecting answers to this.

I only inform you of what our policies are - we are kind, but we are also bound to the reality of this world. Be it in coin or service or goods, we require compensation." [02:37] <@Anastasia> "So the rumormongering was correct? Hmph, I suppose that old man went on enough about the dead that his dream became reality. How amusing."
[02:38] <@Gavin> "Amusing to you?  I find it distinctly unamusing to realize that had we not come, you would've been burying thirty men this day who would've gone out to face the undead without so much as a blessing from the local priest of Orial."
[02:38] <@Saul> "You consider the walking dead to be amusing?" says Saul, seething. "I query as to the origins of your humour."
[02:39] <@Anastasia> "Calm yourselves, friends," Leaning forward, "Enough of this. I have outlied our position reasonably. If you are not content in coinn...or to offer yourself as a bondsman," Eyeing Saul with just a glimmer of something not so nice, "Then I am afraid it is your problem."
[02:42] <@Saul> "Bah. I did not realise I was dealing with one who was part of my order," snorts Saul, glancing at the rich trappings of the church. "My apologies, 'father'. I will be sure to give your offer some consideration." He turns, and storms outside the church, shouldering past the helmsman in an angry fit.
[02:42] <@Gavin> "Just for clarification before I go... you were warned of the undead beforehand?"
[02:43] * @Gavin is quite serious in his tone.
[02:43] <@Anastasia> SMiling icily at Saul's back, "I apologise for him," he says to Gavin. "I am sorry you are affiliated with one such as him." Nodding, "Yes, but we believed it to be nothing but more foolishness and rumor. There was an old man that...bah, it's history," he dismisses. "His toweri s empty and his ilfe is over."
[02:43] * Elaine is now known as Merc-away
[02:44] <@Gavin> "Tower?  Please, explain your side of things?  As I see here, there was an almost awe inspiring degree of negligance."
[02:45] <@Anastasia> Snorting, "An old man that fancied himself a mage as was his grandfather. HE shut himself in a dusty tower away from town while living up such delusions. Fool, he was as dumb as a rock and half as fast."
[02:46] <@Gavin> "He died recently and was buried in the tomb?  Afterwhich, the undead began to roam the countryside during the night?"
[02:47] <@Anastasia> "...." A long pause from Marsillo, quiet a nd his manner subsiding. "Yes. Two weeks past."
[02:49] <@Gavin> "And where is this tower?  he's been buried two weeks, or it was two weeks since the first sightings of undead?"
[02:50] <@Anastasia> "Two weeks for the former." Quietly now, as if oddly deflated, "Yes...perhaps you do have a point," he finally allows. "I had written it off as more of his madness living on, but...there were truly those in undeath?"
[02:52] <@Gavin> "Many.  The tomb was ravaged quite thoroughly.  I do believe, at the least, that there's quite a job repairing it to be done, not to mention the number of desecrated graves by those who had been torn from their slumber.  The old man, you oversaw his burial?  Did he have anything on his neck?"
[02:54] <@Anastasia> "Yes. Some old family jewelry," he waves. "A dark garnet, perhaps, or a nightstone?" As this is spoken, Gavin feels something trickle into his mind - a haze of richness, a feeling that this damn greedy priest wants to take away his treasure! What he earned - no! That cannot be permitted to happen, ever.
[02:57] <@Gavin> Gavin frowned, shaking his head a bit at the odd thought.  "I suspect that, prior to its destruction, that the burying of said item within the tomb, oveseen by you, was responsible for the rise of undead.  It was, at the least, what kept him personally animated and hungering to kill the living and, as far as I can tell, it's destruction is what ended the plight."
[02:59] * @Merc-away (~kazaana@cpe-68-203-166-225.houston.res.rr.com) Quit
[03:00] <@Anastasia> "I see..that damn fool," Marsillo mutters to himself, thoughtful. "Perhaps you are in the right...after all." he breaths. "200 Griffons." It's abruptly said, "My superior insists on at least that much." Yet his words are overlaid by another, wracking your mind! He's trying to trick you! Take away what is rightfully yours! It's injustice! Even the burning of your flesh dims down to this voice, strong and prodding.
[03:06] * @Gavin holds his head, dizzily a bit, visibly shaking it. "Perhaps... why not come and help, and instead we talk of proper donations after you see what you can do to help. While we are travelers, I'm certain that the men who risked their lives would be much pleased to see their priest acting altrostic for the moment."
[03:08] <@Anastasia> "Mmm." So he considers long and hard, thinking..
[03:08] <@Anastasia> roll 1d20
[03:08] * @Serith bats the dice around, getting a roll for Anastasia : [ 1d20=15 ]{15}
[03:09] <@Anastasia> Looking up, "I am willing to aid you how I can, in this case, within my ability," Marsillo nods, stepping out from behind the altar. "Perhaps...we were in error. This must be considered as well."
[03:10] <@Gavin> Gavin smiled and nodded.  "Let it not be said that the house of Orial lacks reflection and altruism."  Gavin turned to lead off.
[03:10] * @Saul paces back and forth in front of the temple, waiting for Gavin to exit.
[03:11] <@Anastasia> So Gavin and Marsillo exit - both together, the latter avoiding your eyes and setting pace in the drizzle instead.
[03:12] * Gavin is now known as Drac-away
[03:12] * @Saul paces alongside, irritation replaced by concern as he looks at Gavin. He really shouldn't be out.. the way he's holding his head, he probably has a horrible headache, or something.
[03:13] <@Anastasia> Gavin's head buzzes lightly, but no more voices...it was probably nothing at all, he feels strongly. Nothing at all...just...that stupid priest...
