Discuss the series here.

Dracos

Watched the raw of the first ep yesterday.

Wasn't very impressed.  The whole bit with flonne at the beginning playing Etna's role was...not very well played.  Sure, it was animated cutely, but it left the wondering 'uh, what happened to Laharl's absent support base?'

It's really crammed together too in terms of introduction.  We've got Laharl's weakness revealed in episode one.  We've got practically the entire vocal cast revealed in episode one.  Humans and angels are introduced practically before demonkind in it.  Laharl's growth as a person seems to be getting done prior or somehow.  they're seeming to go for a journey set of it, as Laharl kind of blows up the castle.

Maybe the translated will show a better showing.

Dracos
mmm, tired.
Well, Goodbye.

Dexie Oblivion

In agreement with Drac here.

It's deviated waaaaaaay too far from the game so far.  That's not a good sign.

Here's hoping it get translated soon, maybe that will make things better.

Don't get your hopes up. Even translated is probably not going to do much to improve things. There's simply no way one can fit all that happens in the game in the timeframe they have to work with. Hell if they followed the game to the letter you definitely wouldn't see Flonne at all until episode 5 which wouldn't be bad if the series was say twenty-four episodes.

Unfortunately it's not.

They've got twelve episodes to cover what would require at least twenty-four episodes, if not more, to cover. If you intend on watching this series you'd better get ready for lots of changes to the story structure. They've pretty much backed themselves into a corner with the amount of time they have to work with and there's precious little that can be done.

Ultimately it's best to let this stand or fall on its own merits and not to compare it to the game it spawned from if you can. Comparing it to the game will lead to automatic disappointment since there's just no way it can compare. Unfortunately in my case I can't seperate the game from the anime which leads into...

...My own opinion of it so far. I would say the first episode is below average at best. I do think they've kept somewat close to the original feel of the characters they've shown so far but the events themselves are far too changed for my liking. I'll probably give it another episode or so to see how things develop but I don't have much hope.

I've seen up to 3, need to watch the rest.

It gets better, I'm still kidna disturbed by Gordon and Crew becoming the Team Rocket of the Netherworld.
