[00:13] <@General_Motors> Sand and rock makes for a tiring journey- though Al'Maz and Seraphin seem notably unaffected by the heat, Thaeos, Thrall, and Kethean are certain feeling a little worse for the wear. Undaunted, however, the group continues on.
[00:14] * @Thrall sits on his horse as it canters over the sun-beaten terrain, a tan-coloured and fairly dusty poncho covers most of his body, and he wears a wide-brimmed straw hat over his head. He doesn't look very merry.
[00:16] <@General_Motors> A few days out from their (can you really call it a 'fight'?), the party sees another desolate stretch of land before them, rocks lying across the orange plain like pock marks. As they proceed, however, the wind begins to pick up, starting to blow sand up to head-level, a light miasma of fine dust obscuring vision and slowing movement! Thaeos growls slightly at this- "Storm's coming," he mutters. "If we press on, we might get to the village before it hits. But if we stay, we can make ready for it- if it's not too big. Ain't been through desert like this, before.."
[00:17] <@General_Motors> "Storm's coming," he mutters. "If we press on, we might get to the village before it hits. But if we stay, we can make ready for it- if it's not too big. Ain't been through desert like this, before.."
[00:18] * CrystalSeraph (ice_blade@cor7-ppp1989.bur.dsl.connect.net.au) Quit (Ping timeout)
[00:18] <@Maz> "I'm all for pressing on, then," Maz voices, riding up to Thaeos.
[00:18] <@Seraphin> "Mmm," Seraphin agrees softly, shrugging. "I'd rather not get caught out in thge wilderness in the midst of a storm."
[00:19] <@General_Motors> "Aye. Just sayin'," he mutters. "Might be that we get caught anyway, is all. Damned desert makes distance hard to gauge..."
[00:19] <@Thrall> "If we're close enough to the village I say we press on. Rather have permanent shelter if we can make it," Thrall rumbles over the starting to pick up wind.
[00:19] * @Kethean nods in agreement. "Braving the elements is best done in civilization."
[00:22] <@General_Motors> The party thus presses on! Horses whinny in complaint as the storm slowly builds up, unused to this sort of desert weather! The sand continues to pick up, making a constant whistling sound. The horses frisk, the party is slowed down, and the desert looks the same from any direction. After a few hours of this sort of treatment, Thaeos makes an ominous report. "...we overshot the town," he swears.
[00:23] * @Maz blinks slowly. "Say what?" she asks in disbelief.
[00:24] <@General_Motors> "Between that storm, the horses frisking about and getting off-track, and the goddamn inaccuracy of these maps?"
[00:24] <@General_Motors> "Least we ain't lost, is what I'll say."
[00:25] <@Thrall> "Dammit... what now?" Thrall asks, shading his eyes as he looks around in hopes of seeing any natural shelter they could take advantage of nearby.
[00:25] <@Kethean> "Any chance of making it to town now then before the storm is right on top of us?" Kethean asks.
[00:27] <@General_Motors> "Aye, you can make it to town!" booms a strong voice, deep and commanding. "If ye pay tribute for travelling through the Seven Sands of Khalai Khan!"
[00:28] * @Seraphin sighs. "The fun never ends, does it?" she grumbles, looking around for the source of the voice.
[00:29] * @Maz drops her left hand into a pocket and wraps it around her wand, as she joins Seraphin with looking around for the source of the voice
[00:29] <@Thrall> "What in the hells, now?" Thrall growls, likewise searching for the speaker.
[00:30] <@General_Motors> It's hard to see- the sandstorm is blurring out your vision. But you can all make out a single, tall figure standing a distance away, arms folded. Though you can't see much, it has an almost palable, regal bearing. "We Jann of Khalai have long since claimed this ground for our caravans, thus! For you humans, or whatever is you are, to tresspass unknowingly- it can be forgiven, for the proper sum. And gladly shall we escort you to the nearest human town, should that be so!"
[00:31] <@General_Motors> And gladly shall we escort you to the nearest human town, should that be so!"
[00:32] <@Kethean> "What is the proper sum?" Kethean asks guardedly. If it's reasonable, they need not fight while the storm is upon them.
[00:33] <@General_Motors> "Fifty pieces of gold for each one of your number," intones the voice. "If you cannot afford the price, then service shall suffice."
[00:34] * @Thrall shoots a dark look at Thaeos, seeing himself poorer in the immediate future thanks to that bumbling Scout... but better than taking their chances with the storm, now. "We should take their offer," he suggests to the others.
[00:34] <@General_Motors> The sandstorm starts to die down a little, and you can see the figure a little more clearly- a light-skinned human, perhaps? But he's almost seven feet tall!
[00:36] <@Maz> "And what kind of services are we talking about, here?" Maz inquires.
[00:38] <@Maz> roll 1d20+7
[00:38] * +Serith bats the dice around, getting a roll for Maz : [ 1d20=16 ]{23}
[00:42] <@General_Motors> "Oho! Perhaps you are the sort who could make by!" pronounces the human, walking closer. You can make out a long, curved sword tied to a sash on his waist, chainmail gleaming in the desert sun. "Service, aye. Paths divide and divide again, and should service be your choice, then two options stand before you," he intones. "For to the west, lurking in the ruins of Hal'Haktar, stands the ogre who would be known as Kalath'Khan. His corpse holds your passage, and the fruits of honor."
[00:42] <@General_Motors> "For to the west, lurking in the ruins of Hal'Haktar, stands the ogre who would be known as Kalath'Khan. His corpse holds your passage, and the fruits of honor." (More)
[00:44] <@General_Motors> "To the east, stands our caravan, where ye may serve for a month, if it is your fancy," he adds. "And to the south lies the human town, where gold can easily bring you. To choose none invites the wrath of the khan, as is his writ. Human-kin, if you seek to gain gold, instead of lose it, a few hours to the west holds the best fate for you."
[00:45] * @Maz turns to look at her companions, studying their reaction.
[00:46] * Shuckle is now known as GenerationsOfDoom
[00:46] <@Thrall> "Kill an ogre for safe passage?" Thrall shrugs. "Works for me."
[00:48] * @Seraphin shrugs a little, glancing at Thrall and then at Maz. "Killing is killing," she agrees.
[00:49] * @Maz nods. "This does seem like the best option to me."
[00:52] <@General_Motors> "Then you accept? Splendid!" pronounces the figure. "Human-kin, I will personally guide you to his lair. Know that Kalath- I will not disgrace our tribe again by calling him 'Khan'- is a young ogre mage, his powers still in infancy. His father, who once commanded the desert filth- has perished, but wards about his fortress still prevent our tribe from striking. Strike him and his few companion ogres down-" his waves his hands, grandly- "And the fruits of the desert will be yours for the taking."
[00:52] <@General_Motors> Strike him and his few companion ogres down-" his waves his hands, grandly- "And the fruits of the desert will be yours for the taking."
[00:53] <@Thrall> "An ogre-mage?" Thrall frowns, stroking his chin. "Those are nasty... but a deal's a deal."
[00:54] <@General_Motors> "Should you change your mind, the fee may be paid at any time," pronounces the figure, striding- no, his feet aren't even touching the ground- floating towards you. "If nothing else, for you, the spoils of battle will be great."
[00:56] <@General_Motors> <-An hour later...->
[00:59] <@General_Motors> "There lies Hal'Haktar," intones the human- no, the Janni, as he explained. He gestures towards a broken wall, some hundred metres away. The sand is still blowing, softly, which is why the single hulking brute at the gate has not yet noticed you. "Spoils await! But the young mageling within has command of invisibilty, and can unleash a powerful blast of cold. His brutes, thankfully, are merely stupid, fodder for seasoned veterans such as yourselves!"
[00:59] <@General_Motors> His brutes, thankfully, are merely stupid, fodder for seasoned veterans such as yourselves!"
[01:02] * @Thrall nods grimly, readying his axe as he dismounts. "Keep an eye on our horses. This won't take long..."
[01:02] <@Maz> "He's not the one who has invisibility within his command," Maz says, cocking her head as she glances at Seraphin. "Would you like me to use it on you to allow you to sneak in closer?"
[01:03] * @Seraphin smiles a little, nodding to Maz and dismounting. "Sure," she aghrees, readying her weapons for combat.
[01:05] <@Maz> "One moment, then," Maz says, and first draws a bluish snowflake in the air, grasping it. Once she has her Mage Armor spell cast on herself, she reaches into her pouch for a component and chants. Light gathers around her outstretched hand, and when she commands it, the glow goes into Seraphin, the latter fading from view.
[01:06] <@Kethean> "A good idea," Kethean says as Maz casts her protective spell, and casts one of his own on himself.
[01:07] <@Seraphin> "Thank you," Seraphin murmurs, and begins her measured approach on the ogre.
[01:08] * GenerationsOfDoom is now known as Shuckle
[01:08] * @Thrall waits for Seraphin to move off before following so that by the time it spots him she should be right on it.
[01:09] <@General_Motors> Seraphin slowly makes her way to the front wall of the 'fort'. It's not much of a place- sand and time have had a serious effect. The walls are still high, though- spanning about 60 metres across, the centre with an open archway, and a single beast out the front.
[01:09] <@Maz> "I've got a spell I could use to boost your strength temporarily," Maz tells Thrall quietly as she follows him, "but it might prudent to wait until we come to face the mage."
[01:09] <@General_Motors> The ogre himself is big, grey-skinned, wearing hide armour and a poncho, carrying a club that's about as big as Seraphin. He emits a great belch, but Seraphin has smelt worse.
[01:10] <@Thrall> "Save it for when we're inside," Thrall agrees, tensing as he moves closer.
[01:11] <@Kethean> "I'll save my other spells until we're inside as well," Kethean comments as he keeps pace with the half-orc warrior.
[01:11] * @Seraphin waits until her friends should be in range, getting behind the ogre in the mean time, and then lashes out, her shortsword flickering for his vitals.
[01:12] <@Seraphin> roll 1d20+7
[01:12] * +Serith bats the dice around, getting a roll for Seraphin : [ 1d20=14 ]{21}
[01:12] <@Seraphin> roll 2d6+3
[01:12] * +Serith bats the dice around, getting a roll for Seraphin : [ 2d6=7 ]{10}
[01:13] <@General_Motors> The ogre roars in pain as Seraphin lashes out, magical steel puncturing flimsy hide as Seraphin's sword hits home!
[01:14] * @Thrall bellows out a roar of his own as he charges towards the Ogre after Seraphin's attack!
[01:18] * @Maz takes out her wand of magic missiles and swirls it in the air above her head, red energy gathering at its tip, before pointing it at the ogre Seraphin injured and releasing the attack into him.
[01:19] <@General_Motors> Two pinpoints of light streak towards the ogre, slamming into it with a muffled sizzle!
[01:19] <@Maz> roll 2d4+2
[01:19] * +Serith bats the dice around, getting a roll for Maz : [ 2d4=5 ]{7}
[01:19] <@General_Motors> Arrow already nocked, Thaeos lets fly with a deadly shot!

[01:20] * +Serith bats the dice around, getting a roll for General_Motors : [ 1d6=5 ]{8}
[01:20] <@General_Motors> Staggering, the ogre takes the combined blast and arrow badly! It's cries turn from fury to pain, his hands starting to slip from his club!
[01:20] <@General_Motors> OOC: Init!
[01:21] <@Maz> roll 1d20+3
[01:21] * +Serith bats the dice around, getting a roll for Maz : [ 1d20=20 ]{23}

[01:22] <@General_Motors> OOC: Maz.
[01:22] <@Seraphin> roll 1d20+4
[01:22] * +Serith bats the dice around, getting a roll for Seraphin : [ 1d20=5 ]{9}
[01:24] <@Maz> Emboldened by her earlier success and the ogre's obviously-difficult condition, Maz gives her wand another twirl, sending another pair of bolt of energy into the wounded ogre with a cry of, "And stay down!"
[01:24] <@Maz> roll 2d4+2
[01:24] * +Serith bats the dice around, getting a roll for Maz : [ 2d4=5 ]{7}
[01:25] <@General_Motors> The ogre seems to like Maz's idea, dropping to the ground as the magical bolts crackle into him! His club rolls from his hand, but even as he falls, answering cries come from within the ruins!
[01:26] * @Seraphin makes sure the ogre is dead by opening a few choice large veins with the tip of her shortsword, but otherwise just cleans the blade. "Want to wait for them to come out, or go in after them?" she inquires, looking to the others.
[01:27] <@Maz> "The less time they have to prepare..." Maz says, leaving it open.
[01:27] <@Thrall> "Take the fight to them," Thrall snarls, not wanting a repeat of their first battle at the Sharran temple by giving the enemy time to rally itself. Putting action to words, the half-orc enters the archway, looking for trouble!
[01:28] * @Maz enters the ruins after Thrall.
[01:29] * @Kethean follows after the two, keeping an eye out for hidden warriors possibly planning on ambushing them now that they've heard they're here.
[01:29] * @Seraphin keeps up right behind Thrall, ready to get into her own usual position of combat.
[01:32] <@General_Motors> The archway leads into a corridor without a roof, featureless apart from bleached stone and rolling sand. It leads to a t-junction, to the left and to the right. You can hear loud footsteps from elsewhere in this complex. There's no roof, and the sun beats mightily upon you.
[01:33] * @Thrall moves up to the t-junction, looking both ways to decide which is best to go down.
[01:33] <@General_Motors> Glancing both ways, Thrall can see that they are equally bad! An ogre rounds the corner at each end, seeing Thrall, and abruptly charging into battle!
[01:34] <@General_Motors> OOC: Thrall and the ogres can act! Quick, what're you doing?
[01:34] * @Thrall takes a few steps back the way he came so they both have to come at him from the front rather than flanking him on either side!
[01:36] <@General_Motors> The ogres charge into combat, unable to now take Thrall from both ends! They rush on mightily, one with an axe, the other with a club! OOC: Free attack on one or the other, then they attack j00!
[01:36] * @Thrall lashes out with a mighty attack on the right-most Ogre as soon as it comes into range!
[01:36] <@Thrall> roll 1d20+6 (-4 power attack)
[01:36] * +Serith bats the dice around, getting a roll for Thrall : [ 1d20=12 ]{18}

[01:38] <@General_Motors> A crushing blow, the axe-wielding ogre staggering, but righting itself in time to strike back, his own powerful attack coming!
[01:38] <@General_Motors> roll 1d20+6
[01:38] * +Serith bats the dice around, getting a roll for General_Motors : [ 1d20=4 ]{10}
[01:38] <@General_Motors> The wild swing fails to hit Thrall, though, his heavy plate armour causing the unwieldy blow to glance off! It's quickly followed up by a blow from it's companio, however, club swinging alongside axe!

[01:49] <@General_Motors> The axe-wielding ogre groans as yet another attack slams into him, his wrathful eye turning to face Kethean!
[01:51] * Kethean changes topic to 'BLOODY FIELDS REPOSESSION TEAM | Kethean > Seraphin > Thrall = Maz = Axeogre > Club O.G.R.E > Thaeos.'
[01:53] <@Seraphin> Not seeing any real openings to gat at their vitals, Seraphin just moves into melee, her shortsword flickering to assist with the axe weilding ogre!

[01:54] <@General_Motors> Even with all the punishment being dealt to it, the axe-wielding ogre stays on it's feet, giant-sized chainmail taking a brutal beating! It snarls at the lot of you, axe heaved back to lash out!
[01:54] <@General_Motors> OOC: Now three people act simultaneously! hurrrrrrr!
[01:55] * @Thrall rears back and swings his axe in a wide horizontal arc through the axe-wielding Ogre, aiming to put it down for good before giving its friend some payback!
[01:55] <@Thrall> roll 1d20+8 (-2 power attack)
[01:55] * +Serith bats the dice around, getting a roll for Thrall : [ 1d20=6 ]{14}
[01:56] * @Maz reaches into her pouch with first her right hand for a fistful of sand, and then with her left to pick a few rose petals. She chants, and the sand begins to glow softly, seeping through her fingers to swirl around her, as if carried by an unseen wind. Her chanting reaches a peak, and she stops abruptly, bringing her left hand towards her mouth and blowing on the rose petals. Runes appear on them, and they disappear along with the sand
[01:56] <@Maz> Runes appear on them, and they disappear along with the sand, only to reappear surrounding the ogre on the left, swirling around it.

[01:57] <@General_Motors> OOC: I don't think that passes!
[01:57] <@Maz> OOC: He needed 16  >_>
[01:57] <@General_Motors> As Maz's magic sends the leftmost ogre into a useless slumber, the axe-wielding one lashes out back at Kethean, axe lashing to put the monk into a world of pain!
[01:57] <@General_Motors> roll 1d20+9
[01:57] * +Serith bats the dice around, getting a roll for General_Motors : [ 1d20=9 ]{18}
[01:58] <@General_Motors> The axe slams into the wall instead and kicks up a hail of sand! The fight's causing quite the dust-up, but Thaeos is undaunted, firing an arrow through the melee with great precision...

[01:59] <@General_Motors> The arrow flies through ogrish chainmail, a fourth wound on the axe-wielding freak! He's in trouble now, but still, he breaths!
[01:59] <@General_Motors> OOC: Kethean again!
[02:03] * @Kethean grimaces at the amount of damage the ogre can apparently take, and proceeds to go launch a flurry of blows with his nunchukus.

[02:03] * +Serith bats the dice around, getting a roll for Kethean : [ 1d6=3 ]{6}
[02:04] <@General_Motors> With a final light-touched whack to the head, the ogre groans, and topples to the ground, alongside his sleeping companion! Barely a few seconds have passed in this melee, and a brief respite gives the party a moment!
[02:05] <@Thrall> With the fighting ogre dead, Thrall gives its slumbering comrade a hateful look as he raises his axe for a decapitating stroke!
[02:06] <@General_Motors> Time pauses, the moment between the second and the strike perhaps giving Thrall some deep reflection on the unknowing life he is about to take.
[02:07] <@Thrall> Live by the club, die by the axe. Or something. Thrall never was much of a philosopher.
[02:07] <@General_Motors> A single blow later, the ogre's head lies seperated from it's body!
[02:08] <@Thrall> roll 1d2 (1=right 2=left)
[02:08] * +Serith bats the dice around, getting a roll for Thrall : [ 1d2=2 ]{2}
[02:09] <@Thrall> "Any chance of some healing, Kethean?" Thrall asks, shaking his axe off and taking a few steps down the left path of the t-junction.
[02:09] <@General_Motors> To the left, the corridor leads to another building- this one has a roof! A corner turns right a little down the way, but a solid wooden door is also set into the stone house!
[02:12] <@Kethean> "I could, though I would have to sacrifice some of my other spells. If you feel it's needed though, I'll go ahead and do so," Kethean answers.
[02:13] <@Thrall> "Got any spells that won't be useful for killing ogres?" Thrall asks, frowning as he looks up the path on the right before considering the door ahead.
[02:15] * @Kethean nods, and converts his light, guidance, and detect magic spells into healings. OOC - you get 4HP back >_>
[02:16] <@Thrall> OOC: you're too kind!
[02:17] <@Thrall> "Thanks," Thrall smiles as his ribs seems to go back to their proper alignment, before trying the door.
[02:18] <@Kethean> "I've got three spells left, which will be useful against other groups of ogres," Kethean says when that's done.
[02:19] <@General_Motors> As Thrall advances to the door, Seraphin sees, from the other direction- another two ogres coming down the corridor! One hefts a huge sword and a battered wooden shield, while the other one, in front, holds several large javelins! He holds one just above his shoulder, ready to throw!
[02:20] <@General_Motors> OOC: Init!!!

[03:07] * @Maz retreats further back, until she's next to Kethean. A slight tremor going through her body, she holds out her right hand towards the ogre who wounded her. [01:10] <@Carthrat> Silence reigns shortly after, no further ogres rushing out to face death in the face.
[01:12] <@Seraphin> "...Okay..." Seraphin breathes, her blood red eyes dancing. "Everyone alive?" she asks dryly.
[01:12] <@Maz> "For the moment," Maz responds, wincing.
[01:12] <@Thrall> "Except the Ogres," Thrall remarks, shaking the blood off his axe. "But still no sign of our Ogre-Mage. We should keep moving."
[01:13] * @Thaeos grunts, gripping the broken javelin and pulling it out.
[01:13] * @Kethean moves towards the pained mage and concentrates on converting his bane spell into a spell of healing, to help cure some of Maz's wounds.

[01:14] <@Thrall> "Very well," Thrall nods, going to try the door. He'd been planning to do that before the latest batch of Ogres showed up, anyway.
[01:15] * @Maz nods at Kethean gratefully, and follows Thrall, though at a more sedate pace.
[01:16] <@Carthrat> The door opens into an actual room, roof still intact on this part of the fortress. Still, it doesn't look to be in good condition- a chunk of debris falls down from the ceiling as Thrall peers inside.
[01:16] <@Carthrat> (More.)
[01:17] <@Carthrat> The room itself seems to be a supply room- amphoras, urns, and boxes piled up against the wall, most being cracked and disused. There are two things of real immediate interest- a second door to the left of the entrance, and a large wooden chest, looking in significantly better condition than the rest of the junk in here.
[01:18] <@Thrall> "We can worry about looting after we've killed everything," Thrall says, ignoring the chest for now and going to try the second door.

[01:21] <@Carthrat> OOC: ..Seraphin, *also* spot check.

[01:25] <@Kethean> "Finding anything?" Kethean asks to the two ahead.
[01:25] <@Carthrat> As Thrall advances forward, he doesn't notice a slight glint- a fiendish tripwire, tripped as the warrior travels unwittingly through it! Magic courses through the room, causing it to rumble and shake, before a section of the wall and ceiling rapidly collapses and tumbles across the orcish fighter! Luckily, the worst of it misses him, shrapnel bouncing off his armour! Seraphin neatly dodges out the way, too, and the only real suffering both recieve is a cloud of dust in their eyes as the masonry collapses.
[01:25] <@Carthrat> Seraphin neatly dodges out the way, too, and the only real suffering both recieve is a cloud of dust in their eyes as the masonry collapses.
[01:26] <@Thrall> "Gah!" Thrall starts, stepping back as he avoids some nasty head trauma. "Damn... watch for traps, everyone!" he calls, before *carefully* proceeding to the other door.
[01:26] * @Seraphin blink blinks as she comes up from a crouch. "That," she tells Kethean flatly, a little flabbergasted herself.
[01:27] <@Carthrat> The door is jammed, or locked, or something, because it isn't opening when Thrall tries to open the nice way.
[01:28] * @Thaeos glances forward, and seeing everyone still standing, goes back to watching the rear.

[01:31] <@Carthrat> Thaeos doesn't see or hear anything unusual, trained senses still on high alert.
[01:33] <@Thrall> "We'll come back to this later," Thrall decides, stepping away from the door. "Come on, let's go back down that other path," he suggests.
[01:33] <@Maz> "Lead the way," Maz agrees, sticking close to Kethean as she gets ready to follow him.

Intruding my domain and serving the foolish Djinn is not excusable! Prepare to face the immeasurable wrath of Kalath'Khan, the Greater!" There's a brief flicker, and a blast of sheer cold emnates from in front of Thrall, blasting down the corridor and rushing through the tightly-packed party!

[01:49] <@Carthrat> In front of the rest, though, Thrall takes the worst of the blast, shielding everyone else from the lethal cold! [03:00] <@Carthrat> Combat doesn't wait for niceties, though, the ogre-mage advancing, swinging his giant scimitar (falchion? Almost the same!) with both hands towards Thrall, no respect given to his brief respite!
[03:01] <@Carthrat> roll 1d20+7
[03:01] * +Serith bats the dice around, getting a roll for Carthrat : [ 1d20=2 ]{9}
[03:01] <@Carthrat> His swing misses, the huge ogre cursing in.. ogrish, presumably!
[03:03] * @Thaeos draws his arrow back and fires!
[03:03] <@Thaeos> roll d20+9
[03:03] * +Serith bats the dice around, getting a roll for Thaeos : [ 1d20=1 ]{10}
[03:04] <@Carthrat> Thaeos expertly shoots something invisible, that only he can see.
[03:12] * @Kethean dashes forward now that his spell is cast, maneuvering around Seraphin and Thrall in the space they've left open, pulling out a pair of nunchukus which he expertly whips out like a hissing snake towards the ogre.
[03:13] <@Kethean> roll d20+5 attack
[03:13] * +Serith bats the dice around, getting a roll for Kethean : [ 1d20=8 ]{13}
[03:15] <@Carthrat> Kethean's nunchuku ineffectual dash against the ogre's supertough skin, failing to cause it to even notice his attack.. well, almost.
[03:15] <@Carthrat> OOC: THrall.
[03:17] <@Thrall> Feeling just a little bit better after that potion, Thrall decides that Ogre-Mage isn't going anywhere... unless he puts it in the ground. Heaving his axe overhead, the half-orc steps forward once more into range, unleashing a mighty diagonal slash to bisect his foe!
[03:17] <@Thrall> roll 1d20+10 (-3 power attack)
[03:17] * +Serith bats the dice around, getting a roll for Thrall : [ 1d20=12 ]{22}
[03:17] <@Thrall> roll 1d12+15
[03:17] * +Serith bats the dice around, getting a roll for Thrall : [ 1d12=7 ]{22}
[03:18] <@Thrall> (+17, forgot weapon specialisation. So 24 damage)
[03:18] <@Carthrat> OOC: I cringe, but ok.
[03:19] <@Carthrat> The ogre mage recoils heavily from the blow, serious wound dealt out to his midsection! "Could this be the end of Kalath'Khan?!" it shrieks, bravado fading!
[03:20] * @Maz offers Seraphin a grateful smile and drinks the potion without delay. Letting the now-empty bottle drop to the floor, she fishes in her pack for a scroll she prepared in advance. The spell on it should allow her to strike fear into the hearts of her foes.
[03:20] <@Maz> roll 1d8+1
[03:20] * +Serith bats the dice around, getting a roll for Maz : [ 1d8=4 ]{5}
[03:25] <@Seraphin> Not seeing an opportunity to get into melee really yet, Seraphin joins Thaeos in firing arrows at the monster!
[03:26] <@Seraphin> roll 1d20+6
[03:26] * +Serith bats the dice around, getting a roll for Seraphin : [ 1d20=10 ]{16}
[03:27] <@Carthrat> It practically bounces off the tough ogre's skin, not enough force to penetrate! Is this natural toughness, or magical power? Who can tell? The ogre isn't explaining itself, backing off a step from Thrall and Kethean to consume a potion!
[03:27] <@Carthrat> roll 3d8+6
[03:27] * +Serith bats the dice around, getting a roll for Carthrat : [ 3d8=13 ]{19}
[03:28] <@Carthrat> Thrall's vicious wound closes rapidly, becoming barely a scar in the ogre's chest!
[03:29] <@Carthrat> OOC: Er.
[03:29] <@Carthrat> OOC: Yeah.
[03:29] <@Thrall> OOC: We know what you meant
[03:29] <@Carthrat> OOC: Yeah, but I looked back and *I* didn't. >_>;
[03:33] * @Thaeos pants as he draws another arrow, grimicing, but focusing past the pain to loose another arrow
[03:33] <@Thaeos> roll d20+9
[03:33] * +Serith bats the dice around, getting a roll for Thaeos : [ 1d20=2 ]{11}
[03:34] <@Carthrat> Another arrow flies wide, cleanly missing the ogre and slamming into a wall!
[03:40] <@Kethean> With the narrow space available, Kethean quickly makes the decision to try and squeeze through the spaces made available around the ogre and tumble onto the other side, hoping to attack from behind, and leaving the front open to attacks from Thrall and giving Seraphin room to join in as well.
[03:40] <@Kethean> roll d20+10
[03:40] * +Serith bats the dice around, getting a roll for Kethean : [ 1d20=6 ]{16}
[03:40] <@Carthrat> roll 1d20+7
[03:40] * +Serith bats the dice around, getting a roll for Carthrat : [ 1d20=5 ]{12}
[03:41] <@Carthrat> That great scimitar cuts across where Kethean tumbles, missing cleanly!
[03:41] * @Kethean quickly whips around once safely on the other side, striking again with the nunchukus, hopefully penetrating through the ogre's armor this time!
[03:41] <@Kethean> roll d20+6
[03:41] * +Serith bats the dice around, getting a roll for Kethean : [ 1d20=7 ]{13}
[03:42] <@Carthrat> No such luck, nunchuku failing to even connect!
[03:43] <@Thrall> With the ogre distracted by Kethean's acrobatics, Thrall heaves his axe once more, intending to cross the now nearly healed mark of his previous attack!
[03:43] <@Thrall> roll 1d20+11 (-4 power attack)
[03:43] * +Serith bats the dice around, getting a roll for Thrall : [ 1d20=11 ]{22}
[03:43] <@Thrall> roll 1d12+19
[03:43] * +Serith bats the dice around, getting a roll for Thrall : [ 1d12=9 ]{28}
[03:44] <@Carthrat> A vicious blow that leaves the ogre-mage down in the dust, blue-skinned beast crashing heavily to the ground!
[03:49] * Ami_no_Yuki (~ed_blacka@d207-216-158-77.bchsia.telus.net) Quit (Ping timeout)
[03:52] * @Seraphin heaves a long sigh, getting up towards the thing, and beginning to saw/hack its head off to bring back to thaat desert creature.
[03:53] <@Carthrat> The ogre mage doesn't seem adverse to having it's head cut off, the blue-skinned creature quite dead, horrible wound having split blood and guts across Thrall, the sand, and the stone.
[03:56] * @Thrall breathes deeply, axe held loosely to the side as he sags and leans against the wall, body continuing to protest at the icy treatment it just recieved.
[03:56] <@Maz> "I'll check for anything magical he might've had," Maz offers, stepping closer and taking out her wand, before casting detect magic on herself with a simple activation word.
[03:57] <@Carthrat> The ogre-mage's falchion is certainly magical, faint transmutation radiating from the polished sword. But there's nothing else about him, the creature himself dead in both the magical and physical worlds.
[03:59] <@Maz> "I can only spot magic on his sword," Maz says, unable to keep disappointment out of her voice, "but perhaps he had something else of value that would require a more physical search."
[03:59] <@Thrall> "We still haven't searched back in that room... or the rest of this place," Thrall observes, just taking a breather for now.
[04:00] * @Maz nods in agreement. "I'd still be happier if someone who knew what they were doing gave his body a once-over."
[04:00] * @Thaeos takes the chance to down a potion, hoping to get rid of the nagging pain..
[04:01] <@Seraphin> "Just a second, I'll cut his clothes apart, if Thrall can give me a hand yanking his armor off," Seraphin offers to Maz, shurgging.
[04:01] <@Thaeos> roll d8+3
[04:01] * +Serith bats the dice around, getting a roll for Thaeos : [ 1d8=6 ]{9}
[04:02] <@Thaeos> "Anyone else need one? I only got one left.. But.. Best alive and without than dead and with.."
[04:03] <@Thrall> "Very well," Thrall nods, setting down his axe and going to pry off the ogre's armour. Not that it's any good to him. But that scimitar might be a handy backup weapon.
[04:03] <@Seraphin> "I'm good," Seraphin answers, humming in a surprisingly easy tone as she works cutting away coverings to search and prod about the ogre-mage's body, like some kind of coroner, with her shortsword.
[04:04] <@Kethean> "So how do we do the searching? Split up, or stay together?" Kethean asks.
[04:04] <@Carthrat> It's a big scimitar, really more like a falchion, though the shape is a little different- it's definately built for an ogre, but Thrall could use it in a pinch. The ogre himself doesn't seem to have much else on him- just loose robes, and an empty vial is on the ground nearby.
[04:05] <@Thrall> "Considering there could still be traps, staying together may be more prudent," Thrall notes, wiping the blood off his axe with the rags Seraphin is making before slinging it and picking up that falchion.
[04:05] <@Seraphin> "Yeah," Seraphin cleans her own weapon, sheathing it. "He's got nothing on him."
[04:06] <@Maz> "That just means he had something elsewhere," Maz says with a smile.
[04:08] <@Thrall> "Let's go back and search that room with the rockfall trap, first," Thrall suggests, already starting back that way with a slow and slightly pained gait.
[04:24] <@Carthrat> <-->
[04:25] <@Carthrat> Many hours later, after the whole fortress has been combed over, the party leave the now-vacant ruin, shortly again running into the tall, humanlike-Jann from before. "You return, I see, and with good news, I believe," he states, with a rhythmic cadence.
[04:26] <@Thrall> "Your Ogre is dead," Thrall returns, glancing to Seraphin, since she'd collected its head.
[04:26] * @Seraphin tosses the ogre mage's head at the Janni's feet, a slight smile.
[04:28] <@Carthrat> "Excellent," replies the Janni, stroking his chin. "One more nuisance eradicated. I trust your findings were profitable," he adds, imperious gaze sweeping across all of you.
[04:31] <@Thrall> "Barely better than paying your toll, accounting for the potions we had to use," Thrall remarks. Just broke even on the gold, considering two potions went down the drain - or his throat. Hopefully that magic sword will come in handy, even if it's hardly his style.
[04:35] <@Carthrat> "A tragedy," nods the Janni, wholly sympathetic. "Nonetheless, you have earned your passage, wherever in this desert you need to go. And, at that matter- whenceforth do you travel now? Should the distance not be great, guide you, I can- you seemed lost earlier, when through yonder sands you tread...ed."
[04:37] <@Thrall> "We're headed West," Thrall provides. "You still have that map, Maz?" he asks the shorter tiefling.
[04:38] * @Maz nods, fishing in her pack for a moment before holding it over to Thrall.
[04:39] <@Thrall> Accepting the map, Thrall unrolls it before showing it to the Janni. "This is where we're headed," he tells him, indicating the Sharran's meeting point.
[04:40] <@Maz> "Do you recognize the area?" Maz joins the conversation, as she addresses the Janni.
[04:43] <@Carthrat> "Hmph. That is quite the trek," he responds, glancing west. "If you wish, I can take you as far as here-" he indicates a point, about halfway, "And point you in the right direction. The land is dangerous after this point- ankhegs feed on all the living that pass through, and strange creatures of sand and rock are known to reside as well. Though both avoid large groups... five travellers will seem likely prey."
[04:45] * @Maz frowns. "What would you suggest?"
[04:46] <@Carthrat> "There are no safe routes through here," admits the Jann. "We avoid places about here as best we can. Perhaps finding a trade caravan, and joining onto it for part of the journey would suit you well."
[04:47] <@Thrall> "If you can guide us to any trade routes near there, that would suffice," Thrall nods. Best they're likely to get, after all.
[04:49] <@Carthrat> "There is a small village near here, based around a rare oasis," replies the Janni. "Magical, they say. Caravans often pass through- it may be your likliest hope."
[04:51] * @Maz nods. "That seems like the best plan."
[04:52] <@Carthrat> "You will need to backtrack slightly, but if time is not crucial to you, it will not matter," he says, starting to confidently walk away.
[04:55] <@Thrall> "Our quarry should be in that area for some time, I expect," Thrall muses, though not thrilled about spending even more time in this blasted desert.
[04:56] <@Thaeos> "The Oasis would be a good place to stock up, too.. Maybe ask around about how to deal with the desert better, too."
[04:56] * @Seraphin nods, following the desert dweller. "And possibly locate a better map."
[04:57] <@Carthrat> <->
<Steph> I might have made a terrible mistake
