Quote from: "Anastasia"Re: Rei-chan's first aid kit.

This became a running joke throughout the arc. After a battle? Rei-chan nearly dead? Get out the first aid kit!

I don't really remember it as such, but it definitely was Rei that got the short end  of the stick on injuries in this arc.

Quote from: "Anastasia"Re: Burnt Usagi.

I missed this in the last log. Anyway, why is it that fire monsters always do so well against Usagi? I say it's karmic destiny!

She did tend to get toasted more often than anything else, didn't she? Between this and Guinvain later... yeah.

Quote from: "Anastasia"Re: Rei's teleportation comments 'It's sure an advantage for them but not for us!'.

Pretty much. It's partly a gameplay mechanic and partly my personal preference. I think I prefer Redux here since it answers the TP question by integrating it into magic in general smoothly but with balance.

There was a lot of debate over it in game 1, admittedly. Early on you were pretty dead-set against it as I recall; I remember being a bit worried whether you'd allow me to take Moon-to-Earth teleportation for one of my 2-3 changes to help with the MRP.

As it became more of an incidental thing with Usagi and the Twins, though, I think the idea of using it more casually got more accepted, and that probably leads up to its role in Redux - or at least I'd think so.

Quote from: "Anastasia"Re: Herb's list of plays.

It's like he didn't quite grasp the unspoken 'okay we get it stop it' vibe.

Not for the last time!

Quote from: "Anastasia"Re: Herb's lesbianism comment.

For all that it's pretty much accurate in theory and in retrospect, I remember this getting some nasty OOC comments at the time.

Yeah. There were certainly no plans for Usagi to catch the gay this early - in arc 1 and through most of arc 2 I was actually fairly adamant that Usagi was going to stay straight. The Usagi/Rei romance really developed more from the good chemistry between Usagi and Rei IC than anything.

Quote from: "Anastasia"Re: Usagi and Ikkuko, round 3!

This was a very nice scene, then Jadeite had to show up and talk smack. Oh well. I liked the vibe the two Tsukino womb bearers had, it hinted at better things to come there when there wasn't so much stress going on.

One of those things that got her the Favorite NPC award, I think. Even with what she had onscreen, I still wish there'd been more Ikkuko-Usagi interaction in game; watching her try to come to terms with her superheroine/ancient monarch of a daughter was very cool to watch and participate in.

Quote from: "Anastasia"Re: Jadeite

He really was a punk in this game, on rereading. True to his canon personality by and large, but this blow was the wrong idea at the wrong time for him. He's lucky he got out of this one alive!

Yeah. Cocky far beyond what he had any right to be - I mean, honestly, it should have been pretty damn obvious to him that Metallia was gone and that there weren't many other people that could have even TRIED to deal with her, so his repeated taunting is just really dumb - almost Rubeus Jr. level.

Quote from: "Anastasia"Re: Herb's Ferrari.

Nothing against Herb having a car, but such a flashy symbol of wealth was probably a small mistake. In your face money gets old quick - more background things like a reasonable house or clothes are easier to pull off.

Of course, I could be wrong here and it's just general Herb sentiment talking.

There were just so many things with Herb that set him apart from the other senshi - his age, the college student thing, the aquatransexual bit... and even with the minor details like this he had to separate himself more, it felt like. Have to make SOME effort to come to a common ground, or you can't really relate.

Quote from: "Anastasia"Re: HArbor 9.

This feels like a flashback of the fake Sailor Moon plot Zoicite and Kunzite hatched in the SM canon. IS it jus tme or is that vibe there, sorta?

Mmm, not to me, or if it is, it's almost a role reversal. The unsuspecting Jadeite being closed in a trap by the wily senshi?

Quote from: "Anastasia"Re: Moon Pottymouth

Pretty much a joking reference to the tone changes from canon to game. As a rule I tried to keep Jadeite mostly Ic with that spirit. It made for amusing bits like this.

Yeah, that one prompted an eyeroll from me on rereading.

Quote from: "Anastasia"Re: Jadeite battle.

Short and nasty. The power difference is really showing up now, isn't it? Anyway, no comments here, I'll have a big Jadeite post awhile later.

Only thing that annoyed me here was Minako. There had been a lot of talk in OOC about trying to purify Jadeite - it seemed like a lead pipe cinch with the difference in power levels. Both Rei and Usagi were going to aim for the purification before the battle even started, but Minako went straight for a decapitating strike, as she didn't agree with the idea. Slightly irritating, if moot in the end.

QuoteYeah, pairing honorifics is a bit eh. This one, like the rocket plane, turned into more of an OOC joke than an IC one - I don't think I've seen Usa-hime-chan since in game during edits (to the end of arc IV now).

Thank God. That was painful honorific mashing.'

QuoteThere's been a lot of discussion on Sailor V and whether she really fit the game. Personally, given all the rest we had to keep up with, it probably would have just been best to let that go as we had MORE than enough else going on to keep our attention without looking for more.

I dunno. On rereading them, I find myself strangely drawn to these scenes. Go figure.

Re: Recovered Space Criminal info.

By and large teases, especially in Cynthia's case. It did nicely build up Orestes and Oyxite and mention Starfire. A start there - admittedly I kept it mainly to NPCs I'd already mapped out. A few of the odds and ends just weren't mentioned here.

Re: Soleil

I'd honestly forgotten his name. On the plus side, I think this log is missing the best part, the lines after when Ami really remembers bedroom howto. Amusing for Panda Ami, good to be retconned for Bean Ami. So it works on all sides!

Re: Shingo's cheap shot.

Understandable or not, that was purely vicious. I think I regret the remark in retrospect. Poor Usagi.

Re: Usagi is armed with a coathanger!

This is one of those 'too many jokes' comments, so I'm just going to chuckle and move on. You silly bunny rabbit.

Re: Minako's random rabbit page.

Uh. This is one of those 'do you remember what she poked you about' messages? It was clearly a telepathic message, but I just don't remember what it was about in the least.

Re: Shingo and Usagi: Slap and spit action.

This was a mistake by Usagi. For all the buildup, slapping her younger brother was a gigantic misstep. Not only did it drive in more disharmony, it also really just didn't do any good. Shingo really did just want to be left alone or curl up with Mom. Right or wrong, Usagi wasn't who he wanted to see then.

Re: Cynthia buildup.

Aaah, sweet sweet anticipation rising! I feel bad for Queen Serenity here - her words about Cynthia having another chance were rued by Sailor Venus. More on that later, this is as much a mental note for myself as a comment.

Re: Cynthia buildup 2.

Ooooh, now the big drama and memories are finally unlocked. Tragic past, go! It's nice to see how this lined up - I wonder if Usagi was hoping to find someone she could reach out to and lean on and vice versa? Someone from her past, no less?

Re: Minako's black and white vision.

-_-

Considering how I was trying to paint various shades of gray with most of the criminals in some manner or another, this smacked of ARGHNESS on my end. She was trying to work a very black and white philosophy into a game that was often anything but. You can see the wreckage of it yourselves.

Re: Minako's bat signal.

I'm still laughing at this. That was totally oddball classical Minako at her finest. Well said.

Re: Herb and Usagi chatting.

This was a classical, nice scene. I really wish Herb had managed more of these, he was good when he was on.

Re: Natsuna.

Another of the 'minor early SM1 NPCs I'd totally forgotten about'. Her professional style slightly reminds me of Reiko from Redux. Past that she doesn't stir much in me, she was somewhat reactive to Minako in all her apperances.

I had vague plans to have her cameo a few times after arc 2, but it never happened.

Re: Minako's mind.

I vaguely recall that being a point of argument. IT was high enough to be good but still gave her school troubles.

Re: Arty abuse.

That was harsh - leaving him in the bathroom. C'mon, when you gotta go you gotta go. Even if light in mood, that was rather mean of Mina.

Re: Yuu-chan's lyrics.

I'll be honest. I still find those hilarious, even if Rei wants to string me up when they get mentioned even now. Bad rhymes go, it was a nice application of Yuuchiro. I can't blame him since he found out his girl was gay like the ...well, something really gay!

Re: Rei-chan's Ash Rods.

These poor things got delayed and delayed far longer than they should've been. Sorry, Rei-chan.

Re: Sailor R.

This wasn't a bad idea at first, maybe. Past that I'll forgo comment on behalf of Rei-chan.

Not much to add here, really.

Or here!

Quote from: "Anastasia"Re: Shingo's cheap shot.

Understandable or not, that was purely vicious. I think I regret the remark in retrospect. Poor Usagi.

Sigh. Shingo, on a lot of counts, is probably the biggest black mark on my time as Usagi. I fault myself here more than the rabbit herself, as I really have no concept of normal sibling relationships myself, being an only child. That said, Usagi's interactions with Shingo throughout this post were just >_<worthy on rereading. Definitely the low point of my RPing of the moon bunny.

The only real defense I can make here is that the consistent stress of the arc was really starting to tell on Usagi - I'd taken Recurring Nightmares at 2, and between trying to show that and the constant blaming of herself she was doing through most of the arc she was getting fried as hell. It's no excuse, but Usagi wasn't exactly in the greatest mental state here herself.

Quote from: "Anastasia"Re: Minako's random rabbit page.

Uh. This is one of those 'do you remember what she poked you about' messages? It was clearly a telepathic message, but I just don't remember what it was about in the least.

I have no idea at this point, and I doubt I have the logs - given the timestamp there, I'd have been at work and most of those PM logs never made it home.

Quote from: "Anastasia"Re: Shingo and Usagi: Slap and spit action.

See above comments on Shingo. Further extreme blah on my performance here.

So much to say on Cynthia, but I'm going to save most of my commentary on her for the Channel 5 battle, I think.

Quote from: "Anastasia"Re: Cynthia buildup 2.

Ooooh, now the big drama and memories are finally unlocked. Tragic past, go! It's nice to see how this lined up - I wonder if Usagi was hoping to find someone she could reach out to and lean on and vice versa? Someone from her past, no less?

She certainly could have used the help, that's for sure. Not that the senshi weren't helping as well, but most of the others were distancing themselves from the past at that point rather than trying to embrace it the way Usagi was.

Quote from: "Anastasia"Re: Minako's black and white vision.

Asking why Minako didn't kill Rei here really pinned her to the wall, on rereading the scene. For all the failure in this post with Shingo, I do think I nailed that one dead on.

Re: Rei-chan's armor worries.

Nothing much to say here beyond a few giggles. That was one of those little touches the better RPers often added to minor scenes. Go Rei.

Re: Starfire's name.

She wasn't directly named after the DC comics heroine who she shares a name with, but it might've been a case of subconcious name affecting. Just sayin'.

Re: Changing the future.

This served two purposes - to praise the girls for making it this far and to remind them that the future is what they make of it, no matter how long the odds. I think that's a lesson many of you took to heart.

Re: Setsuna.

I think I hit her almost exactly how I wanted to right off. She comes off as nice and caring, merely infinitely distant and bound by her own ancient duties. She quickly became my odds and ends super NPC, able to handle things t hat Queen Serenity or others weren't around to do. This is even in the light that she can be a cast iron bitch.

Re: The four lucky ass youma.

These four were a mix of writing off a few criminals, showing that even a few bastards get lucky, and reinforcing shades of gray mindset. They didn't come up much past this, but they survived MEtallia. Go them.

Re: Mercury's braclet and Minako.

-_-

Just stop jonesing the bracelet and just give it to Ami already. Geez, bitch, way to hurt your own survival chances by hobbling the team. The team that at it's strongest potential is the most likely to survive, remember!

Re: Minako paranoiaism.

She had the pieces to do it and failed her common sense check not to start freaking out. Sigh. No more to say here, it's just another >_< Mina moment.

Re: Timestop.

That answers the question of how Setsuna beat Oxyite, yes? Ties it up all nice and pretty while enforcing OOC 'oh shit' feelings.

Having gotten through pretty much the entire game on posting at this point, I can pretty safely say that this is probably Herb's single best scene in the game. He was engaged, insightful, helpful, and on-topic - sadly, traits that were lacking from many other scenes he was in later.

Quote from: "Anastasia"Re: Natsuna.

I had vague plans to have her cameo a few times after arc 2, but it never happened.

Yeah, I kind of wondered about that. She got a tentative tie to Rei at one point, but it kind of evaporated - probably in the massive rush of new NPCs onto the scene in arc 3.

Quote from: "Anastasia"Re: Minako's mind.

I vaguely recall that being a point of argument. IT was high enough to be good but still gave her school troubles.

There was discussion on a lot of aspects of Minako's sheet. Seemed like she went through a near total rewrite of her sheet between arcs 1 and 2. I don't think her stats shifted all that much, but I know her attributes did.

Quote from: "Anastasia"Re: Arty abuse.

That was harsh - leaving him in the bathroom. C'mon, when you gotta go you gotta go. Even if light in mood, that was rather mean of Mina.

There are a couple of places in these recent posts where the Arty abuse just goes too far. Jokingly smacking him around is one thing, but Minako was really starting to act like she hated him outright.

Mmm, I don't know about how nice and caring she came across as. From the PC end of things, game-canon Setsuna always came across as cold and aloof more than anything else, at least as I recall her. Not hostile at all, certainly, but outside of some mild amusement about the senshi's actions she seemed to be just... neutral on almost everything.

Except Endy when those two finally got together. But more on that when we get there. >_>

At the time, I seem to recall it being mostly speculation that you were trying to cut down on the arbitrary '12' number we'd gotten early on in the arc for the number of criminals.

Minako didn't trust anyone, it seemed like sometimes. -_- Not even Usagi - and between canon and the way I at least TRIED to play her, the concept to me is just really alien. If you can't trust HER, who CAN you trust?

Quote from: "Anastasia"Re: Timestop.

Re: The Silence Glaive.

Aaah, safely stored away again. I'm ambivient - it's a cool toy, but I played it up as being downright lethal in tandem with canon Hotaru. The life draining aspect fits all too well, and I really wasn't sure I wanted any of the girls trying to seriously use it. Too many possible headaches, so a discreet poke about it worked.

Re: Lunar Library.

On the plus side, this left a lot of fun things behind as well as old reference material for the Sailor Senshi. On the other hand? Lunar porn. >_< Still, this as a fun scene with several subtle injokes that no one but myself go. So hey, it's all good.

Re: Mall trip.

This was such a nice scene overall. A needed break to be young teenage girls, filled with amusing bits. I liked Rei nagging Usagi about her eating, for example, or Usagi getting to pig out. IT was just so -nice-, you know? Win.

Re: Rei's telekinesis.

This was just such an awesomely casual way for it to come out. It's pleasing that not all the powers blossomed over extreme stress. Plus, it moved the Love Hina trash!

Re: Rei-chan singing.

Re: THe unlogged jewelry buy.

This was lost - Minako ordered Usagi some special jewelry. It became a sad emblem of Minako's last few scenes in game, and I think it stayed in Usagi's closet until the end. Whatever happened to those, anyway?

4. Battle goes.

It's a real shame this was lost, but at least some minimal survivors are had. Anyway, Starfire giving the poor Sailors a bailout only seemed fair at this point. The entire scene had turned a little vicious, and having them get blown up in the process of nuking Oxyite would just be lame.

Yeah. Probably it would have wound up forgotten otherwise - either way, it would have worked. Usagi certainly wouldn't have been keen on anyone else using it, after having had those visions of Saturn while she was getting it out of its case.

Fateful scene in a lot of ways, in all honesty. Lunar porn aside? This was really what seeded the Moon restoration more than anything - the idea that there were still things that the Moon had to offer that were of value.

Between Mamoru's hint at Lunarian earlier and the wealth of knowledge available here, it pushed both Usagi and Ami into taking a serious look at what the Moon Palace had available, and out of that and some chatting with Panda the MRP was born.

That was the idea, yeah. I don't remember if it was myself or one of the others that spawned the idea, but we pretty much all agreed that we needed some detox time.

Usagi winning the all-you-can-eat prize was priceless.

And on a side note, I remember having an absolute blast trying to come up with Christmas gifts for everyone. Just really a lot of fun with that.

Rei did this with quite a few of her psychic powers. Astral projection came out in a downtime scene between arcs 3 and 4, and teleportation was just her experimenting in the postgame.

Eb would really be the one to verify this, but I know at some point Rei's singing was a point of bitterness between herself and Minako - with Minako's Full Moon career, Rei was somewhat bitter about her success. The rather ugly karaoke scene in the 2-3 downtime hit on that, as I recall.

And yeah, it probably is. Sad.

Get the first aid kit, people! Poor Rei, she went through hell over and over HPwise. No wonder she had a fatalistic streak. I sure as hell don't blame her after the way Oxyite utterly owned her, phallic doublemeanings aside.

Re: Minako.

Yep. That's the sound of a Minako cracking like a pair of 32 waist paints on a 42 waist.  Kerip, kersplat, kercrack. This isn't going to be pretty, is it? Yeah, Rei said it all, why did she have to crack now? Minako has a point - the baddies always had a way of going after Rei, be it by my choice, her actions or sometimes just randomly rolling to see what poor Senshi was targetted.

Ew. It's getting even worse now - the whole denial of deaths bit. That's deep end crackery right there. Poor Minako. Now the TV gets it and she goes into angry denial. This just isn't pretty to read, folks.

Re: The city block.

I regret this while I concede at that point it probably couldn't be helped without GM fiat. Judgment call there that I'm not sure if I still agree with in retrospect. What if the blast had just gone upward or somesuch?

Re: Grandfather Hino.

Now this is a nice scene showing him keeping his poor Granddaughter going in even in torment. I like this rarely seen side of him.

Re: News and cleanup from the Oxyite battle.

I don't really have much to say here - it's all very dry relatively, beyond the small body count being a GM gift. It was a desperately needed one, I feel. Anyhow, not much to say here since I'll get into Makoto stuff later.

Re: Rei's visions.

Those ideas never came to pass - the black snow storm idea was a pity, I'd had a plan for that. Ah well, so it goes.

Re: Minako's guilt.

I hate this in an OOC sense. Something about this mindset always annoys me, but I can't say what. Sometimes you miss, shit happens. Mina did have bad luck with hitting some of the big baddies, but she also never got seriously hurt, so eh.

This is another 'sign that Minako is seriously fucked up now', FYI. This one's at least trying to cope, but it doesn't feel remotely healthy or normal.

Re: Serenity's unprincess like yell.

Another snicker worthy scene. Nice touch.

Re: Starfire and Setsuna being close.

They were friends before the entire Crystal Prison gig. I also toyed around with the idea of them being more than that on the side, purely out of lonliness. Never really got into it, but the idea is understandable for both of them. Setsuna may be a sincerely straight Sailor, but she's still human and a chance to get close to anyone after millenia, male or feamle, is too good to pass up.

Re: Minako's guilt and paranoia.

This is just sigh worthy. No matter what, you don't distance yourself like that from your friends. It's a mistake OOC and a painful thing to see IC; I really feel bad for Corwin here as well as the other girls. This is exactly what they don't need now.

Re: Orestes.

Oh, here we go. He was marginally stable as long as he had Makoto. With her gone? It's time to cue the fireballs and meltdowns straight ahead. I love this scene in pure style - lighting crackling Orestes on TV as the Sailor Senshi watch on is pure gold. Now that the veneer of sanity is demolished, he can really cut loose into the horror that stole part of Makoto's soul.

He vaguely reminds of Kefka for no real reason.

Re: Channel 5

I ran the entry and exploration of the station like a Doom level. It only felt fitting, really. The whole' through the underpassages into hell proper' is such a Doom level theme.

Re: USagi and burning attacks.

She still can't avoid them. Poor rabbit!

It was that short, yes. I might possibly be missing a part of the beginning of it, but that is where it ended as I recall.

She did not have a fun time of things during this arc. The poor miko got pretty badly abused throughout this arc. Still took her lumps later on, but she never really seemed like the primary target again the way she did here.

I... really wish I knew what was going through Corwin's head for this scene. Minako being nearly frantic with worry over Rei? Could see it, easily.
Babbling her head off and doing all sorts of random nonsensical things once seeing that she's out of immediate danger? Sure.
But falling into what resembles nothing so much as a psychotic fugue - all connection with reality lost, as the comment about the dead returning to life shows - that's just... wow.
Moving from that into irrational anger - at the person she nominally loved more than just about anything else - when contradicted only completes the picture of someone hurtling off the edge of the cliff we call sanity.

Mmm, in all honesty it fit the tone of the game, the way it had built. Death was no stranger to the girls by this point, between the old woman killed by the waterpark youma and DK Rei's bloody rampage through Tokyo before Metallia's defeat. The death toll here being low was a mercy, certainly, but it was another reminder among many that the work we did was risky as hell, and innocents could die if we weren't careful.

That said, I do believe that this was the last case of civilian deaths in the game, unless there were some passive deaths due to the negative energy in Shadow Tokyo (not directly caused by us, but related to our activities or lack thereof).

Gramps is a rather cool character all around. He's rarely serious, but his actions here do show him to be the wise old man you'd expect to see running a shrine, rather than the normally perverted Grampa Hino.

Mostly addressed in the city block above. Read up!

Yeah, in light of the last events of the arc this seemed a bit out there. Not the last of these, though.
