Your Favourite Character (That Wasn't Yours)

We've all got our favourite characters, of course, the ultra-cool one that we just love to play.  But out of all the games you've played with, which are the other PCs that stick in your mind, the ones that made the game all the more worthwhile?

I've got two:

One was Unseen.  This is one of the first games I'd played online -- the second, if I'm remembering correctly, a fantasy game run by Brian.  The players were Unseen, myself, and Kieron.  Both Kieron and I were running characters who, while overall widely different, were both blissful "mmm the world is pretty and shiny and everyone is nice and all will work out" Kasumi-achetypes.  And then you had Unseen, playing a neurotic straight-from-Lovecraft timid archaelogist, who was not only getting wound up tighter and tighter from all of the actual plot, but was being driven over the edge of sanity by being forced to go through all this conflict with not one, but two terminal Prozac addicts.  He was just a perfect complement to both Kieron and I, and it made the game hilarious.

The second was Rez.  It's not easy to pick just one person from tDaT -- everybody made the game great.  But Rez picked a fine line between the cheery indestructible confidence of Dracos and the grim pessimism that I was displaying.  You could throw Rez together with any of the other players in the group and things would work out; but at the same time, he ran a long way with his own character development, and wasn't just a passive sidekick-type.  Besides, how can you not love a character than built an entire game out of Dive For Cover and Brace To Shoot?

Hrm... a lot of people could make an argument that she wasn't a PC, so it's an odd choice in plenty of ways, but... Kotono Sarashima from SM Redux.

Kotono is to be very technical, an NPC, as she was controlled by the GM. Still she was treated by the GM and players as essentially a PC, and thus I've always considered her one.

She was quirky, zany and completely off the wall and was ridiculously into the supernatural, a fact made worse by her being turned into a magical girl and being thrust into the middle of a war for Love, Justice and the Japanese way (which sometimes seemed like it tends to involve lots of whipped cream, paddles, and leather, but let's not go there).

She wasn't this sage character that knew all the answers and could escape anything, heck, she was actually somewhat inneffectual in battle in lots of ways, so she never truly stole the spotlight from the players. It's a failing of a lot of GM-controlled 'PCs', so it was fun to see her in action.
<Cidward> God willing, we'll all meet in Buttquest 2: The Quest for More Butts.

This is a loaded question since it's hard to choose favorites.

Saul: C-Rat's PC in Weekly D and D. He played the entire greedy but good hearted merchant routine to the absolute hilt, always working with what he was given, even when Weekly started going down the drain. Little things - like after a ten round melee vs a mass of undead he'd fall over exhausted IC, or how he'd grapple with moral questions instead of just having a pat and tidy answer.

Ami(SMRPG1): Before Bean got to play Ami, the character had problems. Panda gave her a shot, but the results were so-so and he vanished away. I ran her as an NPC for a bit but didn't use her much; so cue Bean. He came into the game and made Ami his own - he understood her and how she reacted to the world she was in.

<IronDragoon> I mean, why not?

Heh, thanks. Even if she splurted off gallons about the Supernatural, she knew almost nothing about the real problems. I tried to overplay her RPwise completely, while underplaying her in actual combat. Helps keep her focused, and I think she would've been a lot more grating if she god modded.

Hell, I even included a wink to the concept of annoying self insert characters by having her know English. Doubly so since that skill came up about 1 time in total throughout the game. <_<

Heh, I never noticed Kotono's use of english. ^_^;

As I said, it rarely comes up. Hence it being a nice injoke with no practical in game value.  Besides, it's even more amusing to imagine her going no like she does in accented English. <_<

Dracos

Hard to say.  I like a lot as I play and I forget afterwards.

Liao comes to mind as an enjoyable little rapscalion though.

You know, guys, the point of the thread kind of falls apart if you're not going to explain.

Carthrat

It makes US think!

Vlad Tepes was awesome because he was 1) Dracula, 2) an ally of my character (a piano-wire wielding musical mage, once living the life of a diva, now living a life of revenge-hunting). Keeping him as an ally required that I sacrifice the ability to lie (ouch!), but as something of a seasoned warrior-type compared to my character's somewhat naive and unrealistic approach, he was fun to play off.

His manner of speech was also excellent; lots of poetics and plenty of adjectives, as well as his tendancy to quote SotN.

He also looked like a beatnik when he wasn't in Owning Bad Guys form, which was funky. He was an NPC, but he was *my* NPC.

Even though he wasn't played by me. Uh. Yeah. >_>

Liao was Brian's character in the Earthbound game.  Sort of a childish martial artist type trying to adapt EARTHBOUND into his ascentic world view.

EDIT - Nevermind, I fail at basic reading comprehension.
