Trunkyboy

Rackham, using his momentum from his running, kicked at the injured wolf in the throat, and then turned immediately to the thrown wolf pulling hard on his chain to dislodge the blade from the injured wolf.

He swung his scythe in a half circle, aiming toward the wolf's body.
riss and I against the world!

Rackham and Nirae get no breaks...

Why, oh why wasn't I born rich?

Cute! Finally, something good on this world.

"Devon, was it?" Arael smiled sweetly at him, trying to radiate charm without actually using psionics. "That's a nice name." Ah, but there would be time for pleasantries later.

Turning toward the large yellow mountain- er, man, she spoke.

"And you, mighty warrior, who might you be?"

Dracos

O'karn looked down at the scrawny female and grunted in response, "I am the chieftian of the Symook, O'Karn Gen'shair, son of O'krom Gen'shair, human female."

Fearless Leader
Well, Goodbye.

Clara returned shorty with another try filled with a pitcher, a glass carafe with a brown liguid in it, and another set of goblets.

Moving around the room, she served a glass of water to Miaka and Arael, and poured the brandy for O'karn.

"Leave the carafe for our friend," Arkanel said.

She nodded and placed the carafe in front of the Ogre. Before topping of the Sage's glass and leaving the room.

O'Karn's eyes were approving, though it wasn't like anyone could tell.  Reaching down, he grabbed his goblet with his right hand and took a gulp of the brandy.  "Better, though still weak."

Fearless Leader
Well, Goodbye.

Arkanel looked very annoyed for a moment, but said nothing for a minute.

He broke the silence, saying, "Now that we know who all of you are.  Why don't we discuss what you'll need and more imporrtantly, when you'll be on your way?"

"Yes, there is that business about why we're here." Arael sipped her water for a moment before continuing.

"The way I see it, we have a very serious problem on our hands. There are several member of the party dependent on our magic and whatever it was that was done to this world, it's limiting our effectiveness greatly." She leaned slightly toward him, all business.

"We need to know what happened here, and more importantly, how can we fix it? Is there a way around this 'chosen' limit? This is a magical world, surely there have been cases you know of which could shed some light on this mystery. Artifacts from a previous age, channeling, something?"

Arkanel sighed.

"The world is as it is because that is the way the original saviors left it."

"I had thought that outer-worlders like yourselves would be immune to the prohibition placed upon magic, not having the blood of the corrupt magicians that once ruled this land.

"Yes, it was a magical world, wondrous and terrible.  Great wars were waged and finally enough was enough.  Legend has it Camelot was the home of the greatest mages, who wished for only peace and study.  They joined the war, not out of conquest and vengeance, but out of hope for peace.  They finally won, but the land was devastated.  You witnessed how barren of people this world is now.  Even after 1000 years.

"That they possessed great power was known, what happened to them isn't.  It is believed they inflected the world with the curse upon magic, except for those they deemed chosen, for something in their blood was pure.

"As to a way around it...  Now that you are here, I fear I know nothing of such a thing, except the fear that Zaphiel has found a way.

Arael pressed on.

"In a thousand years no one but Zaphiel has tried to uncover those ancient magics? No one at all? I find that hard to believe, especially if the magic was as powerful as you claim.

Tell me, what distinguishes the chosen from any other person? You've said hair and perhaps something in their blood, but is there more to it than that? Are they simply able to learn magic and use it without ill effect or is the magic innate within them, able to be used regardless of scholarship?"

kpjam

Arkanel looked a bit stunned at Arael's question.  "For what purpose would anyone seek to bring back that which almost destroyed us?  The power is ghastly, it was an abomination to this world.  Peace is the power all should seek, that tenant is first in foremost of all our teachings..." he trailed off, and looked contemplative for a moment.

He gave a deep breath before continuing, "I'm not sure what you mean by innate versus scholarly.  The chosen are born bearing their marks, making them all capable of bearing the burden.  They are trained, as are people of all occupations.  If I could discern better what knowledge you wished, I might be able to provide it better.  The only thing I can think of to help, is that I preformed my first feat of healing before being officially trained.  I suspect Lafiel did as well, but she has always been a bit headstrong."

"Ah, innate then," Arael nodded. As Ramiel would have put it, that sucked serious ass. This was turning out to be far more complicated than previously thought.

"As to who would try to obtain that power, just look at your brother. He knew the danger better than most, as he was a part of your brotherhood. He thought the reward better. It's a story as old as mankind.

"Tell me, do you think you might be able to create something that could shield use from these adverse effects of using magic on this world? If there are people who can use the magic without falling over there must be some way to repel the side effects of magic usage here."

kpjam

Arkanel face took on an unpleasant cast when Arael mentioned his brother's actions, but his placat facade returned.

"Creating an artifact of magic is beyond my capabilities.  And..."  he stopped and considered a second before continuing, "I menitoned you could keep that which you found.  I would greatly appreciate if you would remove from this world anything you find of that nature when you are done."

Arael idly removed one of her daggers, the Goddess's gift to her so long ago. Perhaps...

"If such items do exist here I assure you we won't hesitate to jack- er, liberate them with haste."

She tried to focus just a tiny bit of her psy through the weapon, trying to lift the some water from her cup.

Dracos

O'Karn looked bored at the conversation.  Filling up his goblet again, he took another drink.

Fearless Leader
Well, Goodbye.

Arael feels lighthead and nothing happens to the water.

Arkanel looked mollified at Arael's ascertation.  "So shall we talk about your plans to get close and remove Zaphiel?"
