"Really...?" Tir muses a few moments. "Was it that terrible? You mentioned that 'Shizue' kept you employed...?"

<Afina> Forever.

<Yuthirin> Afina, giant parasitic rainbow space whale.
<IronDragoon> I mean, why not?

Carthrat

"It wasn't just her," replies Carthrat, sighing. "But those years aren't something I want to remember.

Or tell. Storytime is over, I'm afraid. What about you? How did you wind up on Earth, anyway? You seem to have plenty of contacts and whatnot around the galaxy.."
[19:14] <Annerose> Aww, mouth not outpacing brain after all?

Tir shrugs, letting Rat off the hook. "Well...you're familiar with alternate dimensions and planes of existance, of course? Soul Eater and myself aren't from this universe at all..." Tir's eyes take on a faraway look. "I've only been here about 500 years or so..."

<IronDragoon> I mean, why not?

Carthrat

"Yeah, alternate planes are part of my everyday life," replies Carthrat. "Know anything about getting to and from them? I've gotta find Diane, remember. If you know a way, maybe I won't need to bother with Slicing Gale."
[19:14] <Annerose> Aww, mouth not outpacing brain after all?

"'Fraid not," Tir shrugs. "I got a one way ticket here via the Gate Rune. Anyway...I should start at the beginning, as this is a really long story. Anything else before I start?"

Carthrat

"Naw, talk away," replies Carthrat, settling back into his chair.

He nods, beginning...

"I was born in the Scarlet Moon Empire's capital city, Gregminster, to General Teo McDohl. In other words, I was a nobleman from the day I was conceived.

As such, I grew up in luxury, surrounded by my retainers and dearest friends..." Tir pauses here, clearly remembering things far and long ago. "Pahn, my bodyguard and strong enough to plow through a mountain - and eat as much as one, too. Cleo, my magic tutor and one fine woman. Ted....my best friend," Tir skips a bit at Ted, idly clenching his gloved hand. "And...Gremio, my personal attendant and like a brother to me."

Tir sighs, but goes on. His face shows a longing, a lost life that he'd love to have back. "Until my sixthteenth birthday, this went on. On that day, I had to join the Imperial Army with my retainers as a captain. Oh, my path to the top was already charted out. I was the son of the great general Teo McDohl, after all.

On our first mission, we were sent to see why a nearby province wasn't paying it's taxes...the long and short of it was that we ended up having to go into a nearby bandit filled mountain and clear that out, but...

It was also a monsters nest. We fought like dogs, but were about to be overcome.

Until Ted obliterated every monster with a single spell." Tir looks at you plainly. "Sound familiar?"

Carthrat glances at Tir, his face showing no emotion. "Yeah. Go on.."

"So...we went back and were assigned all over the Empire for a little while. During this...We saw that it was a rotting, corrupt government ready to collaspe on itself.

Further..." Tir stops. "Before I go any farther, I should explain the 27 True Runes to you. In my world, there are 27 fragments of reality in the form of 'Runes'. Soul Eater is the fragment of life and death, controlling the fate of all souls here and everafter. In a way, they are like dummy Gods. There are others as well, such as the True Water Rune, the Vengence Rune, the Beast Rune, the Circle Rune, the Gate Rune, and others.

Anyway, all the True Runes give two things to their bearers - great power over it's sphere of influcence, and immortality. Anyone who bears a True Rune in his or her body will never age a day. Between this, many seek True Runes that are free at the time - Taking a True Rune from someone who has full control over their Rune is suicide."

Tir chuckles dryly. "It came to the attention of the court magician, Windy, that Ted had Soul Eater. Between this and a leak that we were becoming disloyal to that corrupt Empire, she sent soldiers after us..." Tir closes his eyes tightly. "To escape, Ted forced me to take Soul Eater and gave himself to the guards while we escaped..."

Carthrat just nods his head, absorbing all this information..

"Windy wanted the power and immortality of the Rune, as did many others. Fleeing from Gregminster, we ended up falling in with a group of revolutionaries. With my True Rune and the death of Odessa, the leader of the group, at the hands of the Empire...I lead a growing army against the very nation I was formerly loyal to.

A terrible war gripped the Empire, a civil war of spells and magic, of Fire Spears and Calvary. During this..." Tir takes a deep breath. "I lost Gremio and Pahn. Gremio died at the hands of one of the Empire's generals, Millich." Though, a savage grin takes over Tir's face now. "I at least avenged him thereafter on the battlefield, wiping Millich's army out to the man and personally duelling that bastard to the death.

And...the war raged on, until the leader of the Empire, Barbarossa, called on his greatest general to put down the rebellion - Teo McDohl."

Tir stops for a little bit. "We met on the field of battle, until with the help of a new ally, we cornered his army. Again, I met the leader of the army in single combat...

And I won."

Carthrat

Carthrat winces slightly, though he can't really comprehend Tir's feelings at that moment, having never had a father himself to look up to..

"From there, the Empire fell into our hands - the only opposition left was the Floating Fortress and Lady Sonya, but even she fell. Within a year, we had taken Gregminster and established the Republic of Toran." Tir sighs again.

"After a short vacation of four years, I came back and led Toran for around a hundred years. My nation grew, yet I never aged a day with Soul Eater. The great grandchildren of the people I fought with were now in the ranks

Tir changes gears here, going into a different narrative. "I'd been having some problems for a while now - not aging while your best friends and dearest surviviing familly members died does that to you.  After a long time, I just couldn't take it any more. I left Gregminster one night and never went back, instead wandering the world.

I spent 300 years on the road, almost mindlessly battling the monsters and bandits I came across, as well as almost anything else I found. After a while, I was branded a madman."

Tir chuckles at this point, hollow amusement. "I even had a few other True Rune bearers come after me - Geddoe, Hugo of Karaya, that boy with the Rune of Beginning - they thought I had gone mad from Soul Eater.

Randomly wiping out towns with it gets you that reputation, yeah? My crowning acheivement was wiping every soul from Harmonia to feed this damn Rune.

And...they were right. I had gone mad, completely mad. I don't remember all that much past when I left Gregminster, but I know all I cared about was Soul Eater. It was all I had left." Tir's narrative goes on, his rambling reaching a strange, almost feverish timbre right now.

Could that have been me?

"Finally...I ran into another True Rune bearer, the Sage Leknaat. I'd known her since the rebellion, and seeing her..." Tir stops, thinking. "Seeing someone else from my past, it got through to me a bit.

She took pity on me, whisking me away to her island observatory instead of battling me. Over time, there, I was finally able to heal. She spent a long time with me there as I gained my right mind again.

Hell, then again, what's a long time to someone who lives forever?" Tir sighs. "I think it was about ten years, but it could have been ten weeks for all it matters.

Once I came to grips with what I had done...I couldn't have stayed in my world. My very name brought terrors on the strongest knight, the name a curse viler than any other. Leknaat, though...she had a way out for me. As the bearer of the Gate Rune, she controls the portals between worlds. It was a simple matter for her to send me here.

That was more or less 500 years ago. Since then? I've learned a new world and started fresh, moving amid races and cultures. Earth...I found it a few hundred years ago, and it reminds me of my homeworld in many ways. That's why I'm so fond of it, and why I've stayed around it so much."
