"Wonderful, we're probably all going to die now."

Brian

The police car blasts past you at unknown speeds, leaving silence in its wake.

Death blinks.

Death decides to follow the police car at a safe distance.
"Wonderful, we're probably all going to die now."

Brian

Skidding a bit (okay, a lot) on the icy road, you see the police car flag down, and then pull over a semi.

Death decides that perhaps it would be better to head back to town, first stop, the bank.
"Wonderful, we're probably all going to die now."

Brian

You find a bank.  It's a large building with a skeleton crew staffing it.  Looks like they're just waiting for everyone else to clear out of town so they can, too....

Death grabs his laptop and backback and heads inside, looking for someone who can do a currency exchange for him. Or failing that, help him withdraw some folding green from his accounts to go shopping with.
"Wonderful, we're probably all going to die now."

Brian

This bank is too small to actually host a currency exchange.  But, they do have the ability to aquire funds from your account for you.

Death withdraws enough to last for awhile, unsure of how long it will take for him to find the others.

Next stop, try to find a copy of the local newspaper.
"Wonderful, we're probably all going to die now."

Brian

You find a news-paper stand across the street from a run-down looking police precient, and check it out.  The San Francisco Chronicle seems to take second billing to the San Jose Mercury.  Kind of sad, when you think about it, that the local paper has less pull than that from a neighboring town....

But you do find a paper, and the change sitting in the ashtray of your car (along with some unopened gum) pays for it, and you can now peruse the headlines at your leisure.

From the local news, the LA 49ers have made it official that they won't be coming back.  Alcatraz tours are now only going to be run three days a week, instead of the current schedule.  The Metreon is being re-located (along with a new 15-screen IMAX theater) to San Jose.

Well, at least local economy is booming, even if all the jobs currently are supporting the people who are clearing out the abandoned buildings and preparing the area to return to a nature conservatory.

Also, comics.  Garfield isn't as funny as he used to be, but the strip features snow, which is a rarity.  And your horoscope says, "You'll meet someone new today, and this time it might be different.  Mercury is in Gemini, and that could mean love!"

Death checks the help wanted section and the 'For Sale' section.  Also for any ads involving groceries, electronics, or the other little necessities of life.
"Wonderful, we're probably all going to die now."

Brian

Seems to be a major chain of electronics stores called 'Fry's', but their closest branch is town in San Jose, and that's a good hour away from here.  There's a few local hardware and electronics stores, though.

For anything else you're looking for, there's a few mom-and-pop places likely to cater to your needs.

In the Help Wanted section, you see that all the jobs are working in hauling rubble, the hauling rubble industry, or hauling rubble administration.  Well, there's dock work, but that requires certification.  Though, there's a tech company called BioWire that's looking for "talented interns".

Death decides to get supplies and more reliable transportation. Next stop, the used car lot.
"Wonderful, we're probably all going to die now."

Brian

Al's Used Car Emporium!

Wow, he actually went out and knocked the snow off of each car ... now that it's getting on towards noon (though you are feeling a bit peckish), the snow has stopped.

Al stays in his office, where it is warm, waiting for you to go in rather than coming out to you.

Death decides to inspect the cars in the lot since the dealer isn't in a hurry to come out, ideally looking for one with room, good milage, and beaten up on the outside but working smoothly on the inside.
