If 1+1 = 30, 2+2=40, 8+9=19 and 3+7=39, what is 4+5?

If 1+1 = 30, 2+2=40, 8+9=19 and 3+7=39, what is 4+5?

Then 4+5 equals 12.

It's based on the first letter each word's place in the alphabet.

The first letter of 'one' is 'o', which is the 15th letter of the alphabet.  Thus 15+15=30.

The first letter of 'two' is 't', which is the 20th letter of the alphabet.  Thus 20+20=40.

The first letter of 'eight' is 'e', which is the 5th letter of the alphabet.   The first letter of 'nine' is 'n', which is the 14th letter of the alphabet.   Thus 5+14=19.

The first letter of 'three' is 't', which is the 20th letter of the alphabet.   The first letter of 'seven' is 's', which is the 19th letter of the alphabet.   Thus 20+19=39.

The first letter of 'four' is 'f', which is the 6th letter of the alphabet.   The first letter of 'five' is  also 'f', the 6th letter of the alphabet.   Thus 6+6=12.
