Cthulhu. That is all.
Top 3 Suggestions:
Madoka
Cthulu
Star Wars

In dead Soulriders does Dracos lie dreaming?
I could see it.
Anime themes become dated real fast.
A D&D or generic fantasy tropes theme would stand the test of time.
Yeah, no argument there.
Proposal that themes rotate more often, so that 'getting stale' is less of a concern? Might also open up a lot more options....
Or use an anime that's so old it can't get any more stale. >_>
I second generic fantasy, but maybe with some kind of comedic spin on them?
Quote from: thepanda on June 22, 2011, 05:41:49 PMI second generic fantasy, but maybe with some kind of comedic spin on them?
...we give ourselves ECL and use monster/villain stats?
I vote against madoka! I like it and all, but I'd just rather see a fantasy theme.
Oh god, anything but 'generic' anything. (that includes D&D.)
Madoka's got my vote.
Mm, yeah, suggesting Madoka may not have been my best moment. I think I'm seeing a lot of votes for 'faster theme turnover', though. ;)
I used to rotate them a little more often, and really could anytime folks remind me they'd like to see new ones :P
Dunno, but I'll keep in mind when it starts going up that we'd like some freshness there.
Great! Let's force everyone to accept the least popular choice, so they gripe and make us change it faster!
This is a grand idea. :3
How about an Arthurian theme? Knights of the Round table and such?
I fancy myself a Lancelot!

I haven't watched anime in so long, I no longer get any of the references that date after 2003.
We could do a Ranma or Sailor Moon theme. Everyone knows them, right?
Whatever gets chosen, Dune still gets a special Elminster theme, right?
/me stares at Corwin.
Is this actually a big deal? If you pick Madoka or whichever and it doesn't take, wouldn't it be easy enough to replace it a month later and keep on doing that? Maybe I'm missing something really key here.
It's totally not a big deal. :) I probably won't change it right away, but it's a low effort switch. As I said, all I'm taking away from it is folks would like a switch so I'll go do that when I'm doing the forum upgrade.
Is there any way you could do multiple themes with the ability for each user to choose which they want?
...probably? But ... community, Ana. Community. ;)
I move in favor of just changing the theme more often. Then if it's something you don't like, it's only going to be around for a while. If you really like it, maybe we can bring it back again some day.
Daily changes of the theme?
Trival does not imply I'm going to go change a dozen strings every day.
Various themes I like, tossing these out here.

Why yes, I do like dark colors and themes.
QuoteThere looks to be a WYSIWYG post editor. Thoughts on it folks? Not exactly sure it really adds much, but that's my 'it's just bbscript' view.
Please don't add it, or if you do make sure it's not by default on. I've had a lot of rage moments in other boards that added something of that sort in, and it tended to make editing older posts a lot more difficult.
QuoteThemes
I'm perfectly happy with the Core theme, which used to be the default for the old version. Can't complain with seeing more options even if I'll likely stick to the core theme though.
Anything that makes editing old posts harder should be a no-go. With the games we run here and all the character sheet editing, this strikes me as completely counter productive.
Alright. It remains optional anyhow if anyone wants to turn it on with their own profile.
These themes look interesting to me:

http://custom.simplemachines.org/themes/index.php?lemma=2184
http://custom.simplemachines.org/themes/index.php?lemma=1902
I really feel we don't have enough of these types of colors....
The first one looks neat.
Stealth didn't work. The other two are in.
Ah, cool. :D
Hmm, new put, but huh, it is showing two for mods.
I haven't really looked at the options, but I wouldn't mind a light-coloured theme with a little more style. Seems like all of our custom themes are dark.
After poking around a little, I do like these:
http://custom.simplemachines.org/themes/index.php?lemma=353
http://custom.simplemachines.org/themes/index.php?lemma=2295
http://custom.simplemachines.org/themes/index.php?lemma=2279
I don't know if they'll work. I just like other options than DARK.

Us old fogies love our high-contrast easy-on-the-eyes settings.
Give yourself a few decades; you'll come to join us ... or get awesome bluetooth eyes without our limitations....
I'll look at these when I get home and see about adding them.
There are now brighter themes available.
In fact I'd even be tempted to make one of them the default if it wasn't for the whole 'we use an image instead of your site name' business.
Check it out.
Which of the themes would interest you as a default if you had an image with the site's name? And what's the size restriction on it?

I'm not exactly young, and I don't find the dark themes at all easy on my eyes. Much the opposite, actually.
I like some contrast to break up the lighter colours, but all that black makes my eyes hurt something aweful if I have to stare at it for too long.
Also, Drac, I could whip up an image (or images) to replace the default ones in the theme. It's not too hard and can be quite fun. :D
Man, I really like this Astronomy theme though. It has a nice middle ground. Not too bright but not too dark to make my eyes hurt.
Plus, stars are awesome.
Astronomy's pretty nice, though the news box is pretty cramped in it. And I kinda wish it was slightly more towards the blue scale of color than the purple. Still, it's just about the only theme we currently have that I might try outside of the core one.
I really like Ambassador, if only because it works very well with my profile pic. Since I see that at the top of the page every time I log in, it's pretty good.

THE PURPLE RULES ALL!
Incidentally, your Mercury icon matches the purple pretty well.
It matches the blues of the core theme even better though. Maybe if I ever use a Hotaru avatar I'll switch to Astronomy? ;)
I'd probably fling clear sky as one. Or Soft Cartoon. I just feel a light default theme is best, even if many of us use back n black.
*does not forget*
When I click on text or html attachments, they're always downloaded. I then need to open them and delete them from my downloads folder.
It would be nice to have something better than inlining chapters or attaching files in this manner.
Jon: That might be on the settings side on your browser?
It's true I've totally seen that caused by misconfigured web browsers, but I'm totally able to just click and open the attachments with Firefox just fine and I suspect I'd get the same result with chrome. Huh, Chrome does seem to want to save it instead of give you a choice. Setting it to Always Open seems to work, but given Firefox works perfectly fine here and apparently so does IE and ...apparently I only have those 3 on hand. Not sure what to do about chrome not behaving right here.
Google isn't bringing me any insight either on others resolving this forumside.
Hm, I am using Chrome, but I could have sworn I had a similar complaint back when I used Firefox.
(I also have a complaint about how the whole attachment thing works in a long-going thread with multiple versions of a chapter being posted. Either Brian has replaced an attached file at some point or I have managed to completely forget which post I downloaded the attachment from; in either case, not the best experience for me.)
Basically my point is that for various reasons, participating in C&C is actually quite annoying for me when fics are posted as file attachments. I'll understand if I'm the only person inconvenienced in this way and as a result you're disinclined to change things. But I did want to bring it up.
(I have no idea how I'll post if/when I have something worth posting. Probably a link to my webspace or dropbox public file or something.)
Mm, most of those issues are my fault, nothing to do with the forum.
Maybe we could argue raising the attachment cap per post, but mostly it suggests that posting multiple files in a thread may not be the best idea. I just felt it was the better alternative for a rewrite, rather than eight threads in the span of a week (practically).

Perhaps, but my annoyance with the status quo has been building for some time; it's not just because of the Later thread. Anyway, if other people don't find it annoying, I can live with that and figure something out.
Well, Truthfully, I've not been putting any guidelines on how folks share their work... the small audience, casual setting, and generally non-serious demeanor of the site doesn't really jive well with how to post your fic.
I can up the number of attachments per post (done, 20 now). In general, folks are using the threads as temp storage for current feedback. I suppose we can encourage people to link the final version archive in their opening posts, but story versions being replaced or removed is just likely to happen.
For mod suggestions, if you're still taking them (I have no idea how easy/hard it is to install mods once the board is actually up): Tabular (http://custom.simplemachines.org/mods/index.php?mod=204)
It's a table formatting mod. Has some options involving headers, borders, and captions, as well as commands for colspan/rowspan, which is nice.
Huh. Not sure I can see much use for this ... though, I guess maybe in gaming stat threads? Defining cells for character sheets?
How would you use it?
Mostly just to keep some tables nicer looking. I don't really like the invisible borders personally.
Really, tables pretty much only get used for custom classes/PrCs, I think?
If it's difficult to install mods now that SMF2.0 is running, it's probably not worth the hassle, but if it's pretty easy, it's nice for some gaming things and just having some extra options can be nice.
As long as it doesn't change old table functionality it looks like a good idea. I can say I don't want to edit a few hundred tables if this does fiddle with them, though.
It doesn't change it at all. The [ table ] bbcode still works fine, that mod uses it's own code [ tabular ].
Noted.
I'll take a look at it soon and see what's up.
Faaaaaviiiiicoooooon!!! We demand one, Doctor Acos~!
There he is! Was wondering what happened to that guy!
Consider this post echoing my many (many) in-person comments about our missing favicon.
I've commented about it many times as well, though I kinda forgot about it over the last year.
Your last time commenting on it reminded me and since I've been playing Cave Story recently...
I'll look into it when I'm back at my comp :)

Aren't we about due for a new theme?
Monthly nag about this. Nag nag nag.
>_>
The answer is really no. Why? Because to my mind, themes aren't 'change every month, time based things', they are either "I got an interesting theme' or 'someone has a clever/fun idea and is pitching it'.
While the poking was effective, it more often makes me want to not change the theme at all because it's just poking for 'change for the heck of it', rather than 'hey, here's something we're gonna have fun with'. A chore in other words.
Theme here gets thanks to Merc for tossing the idea out. :)
I'd like to request a theme change from the Last Airbender/Iroh title themes. Perhaps to that Bravely Default thing you and others have been chewing on over in the "What are you playing" thread as a theme?
I know you told Dune two years ago you don't like to do it as a time-based thing, but it -is- pretty old. =p
I've been meaning to suggest the same thing. It feels due.
Well, as I said, I like having themes suggested, so that works well enough.
Yeah, I figured I'd toss -something- as a suggestion to make it a credible request. Of course, I don't know anything about that game, so you'll have to come up with the labels yourself. =p
Works. Thanks Drac.
So do you all think we're due a theme change? With D&D Next coming out, how about we go all D&D with titles?
Such amuses.
Though really I be quite work distracted. Any care to spin up proposals along that theme? If so, I'll enter 'em.
Sure why not:
Admin=Weird

Theme? D&D 5e Wizard Spells, from Level 9 down to cantrips. Top three ranks spell WTF with the first letter, and everything else...well, I'm sure you can tell the theme. =p
I'd say classes would work better than spells, but that's just me.
But your theme did make me laugh.
Can't post over in Word of Admin obviously, so posting here for Drac/Rez:
Regarding the spammer, I'd like to note that while you guys are picking up the posting accounts, there's still quite a few in the member list (Starting from Andywadito onward to latest member, though I'm not a 100% on whether any of those accounts in the last 3 days has been a real new member or not), which are advertising in some fashion in the signature, the website link, or their email.
Had some spam come in this morning from MaryannOa and FrozzyDev. I removed the posts but don't have authority to ban them.
We could really use a new theme! A hint to the Dracos.

I'll offer a suggestion for a retheme though, just to be nice: Co-Op Board Game Names

Mods = Defenders of the Realm

Sounds good.
Neat! Thanks to whomever made the change.
I'm a stranger now? :P
You're an eldritch horror, that's what you are! Aiyeeee!
Yes, we must now all run screaming as sanity becomes a suggestion, rather than mandatory.
How do we stay up there, one might ask...
TENTACLES. slimy, green waving tentacles.
We live in a new era of terror, I see.

This is my bad. I asked Rez to do something that shouldn't have been done.
I'll see 'bout getting it fixed.
Not a huge issue, just wanted to bring up issue. :)
I've emailed Rez about it. I don't have su on the server, so can't adjust these myself :(
So, hey, it's been a bit over a month, and the above issue with the avatars is still up and about.
Toss Rez a follow-up 'heads-up-fix-this-please' about it?
I kinda do want to change my avatar now, so I'll probably start being pokey about it. =)
Yeah, was thinkin' bout that. Poked again. And sorry, really my bad for being clumsy in my asking earlier.
As long as you're poking! *pokes pokes*
Yeah, not sure where Rez is. Haven't seen him in a while.
Merc: Think I may have fixed it. Give it a try?

Seems like it worked! Thanks!
Good :)
So random thought given that we have some board-run games:
Is there any worth in installing a Dice Roller (http://custom.simplemachines.org/mods/index.php?mod=2032) mod?
Note that the link give was last compatible with SMF 2.0.10 (last update on June 2015), and not sure what differences there are between that and 2.0.12.
Didn't find anything more recent or alternatives, but figured it could be a useful type of mod for the board.

I believe the last few mods are just security patches, so I doubt it impacts compatibility too much, but who knows.
A dice roller mod would be incredible.
Alright. I shall make it happen. Poke me if I forget.
Reminder that a dice roller would be super keen.

Test.

It uses [.roll] and [/roll], minus the period.
The new features are pretty great.
